Kal was used to the teasing remarks of those around him. It was nothing new and it was all in fun he felt. At the age of ten he was closer to the height and size was some adults than he was a child. Most of the teasing from the other kids at the village was actually directed to how he wasn’t a ginger like most of them. He laughed about it as well, always one to take the jabs in stride. He was a happy kid and wanted to remain that way. Getting angry would just lose him friends his mother told him. That and he also tried to tease people back albeit with little success. Still, at times it hurt. At such a young age he was aware of how different he was. How he had to be more gentle than everyone else or he could break or hurt someone without meaning too. The playful fights or roughhousing of the other kids wasn’t something he could partake in. Parents hid it but they were nervous to have their children around Kal.
This was his life and he was happy with it no matter what. He’d always have his mother, she was one of the main rocks in his life he could turn to and keep him grounded. Able to bare with any teasing and hardships his half blooded nature would throw at him. When everything was against him some days. From not being allowed to play like the other kids, to magic being harder for him than anyone else. she would always have his back and comfort him.
Which would spark the only known time Kal would allow his anger to take him. Occasionally the village would get visitors and as long as they didn’t bring in any technology from the outside world they were allowed to stay. These visitors were often met with curiosity from many of the children of the village. New things were rare at the village. One evening at the communal building, almost like a pub for the village there was one such visitor. Kal was there with some of the other kids as well as his mother. For some reason the visitor decided to single Kal out. Noticing his half giant nature. As the drinks flowed through the man his remarks only got worse. Others had started to notice but no one spoke up yet. Kal ignored the man, everyone tried to ignore it as no one wanted a scene.
Yet, as he was ignored the insults only grew. Kal and his mother decided to leave and that was when the man started to direct his hate toward his mother. How she could love a monster and have a monsters child. Kal had known teasing, slightly hurtful remarks but these were worse than anything he had experienced. Still he could take it. Yet no one at the village had ever shamed his mother for loving a giant. Nature allowed such a thing to happen, so did the village. The look of pain in his mothers eyes was more than he could take. Kal very much looked like a child that just wanted to run and cry in his room, only that he was about the size of this man already. Something snapped in Kal when he saw his mother’s face. Something that any amount of teasing could never have done.
Kal turned and approached the man, still looking like he just wanted to run and cry into a pillow. With one last hurtful remark, Kal picked up the now almost drunk man. No one stopped him, either because they feared what Kal would do with his strength if they tried to stop him. Or that they felt whatever happened the man deserved. Kal still couldn’t bring himself to hurt another leaving being so he did the next best thing. Kal carried the man out of building, all the while the man struggled and yelled to be let go. He took him to the edge of the village. The only one trying to stop him was his mother. Fearful of what he might do with his strength and size while angry. Kal in one quick heave threw the man tens of feet from the village out into the fresh snow. The man was visibly shaken and now running from the village screaming for help. Physically he was fine.
With the man now running away, the anger left Kal. Replaced once more with the scared and sad emotions of a normal ten year old. He cried and said he wanted to go home and his mother walked him there. The whole time, scared of what everyone would say to him tomorrow. He was a freak, a huge monster and everyone was going to be scared and avoid him. Kal awoke the next morning worried to leave, he didn’t want to see anyone. To face what they might think. Eventually his mother encouraged him to leave. He was met with the excited faces of his friends. Much the opposite of what he expected. Everyone explained how it was the funniest thing they had seen. A grown man running and screaming for help, from a kid. Some adults saying the man deserved it. For all the teasing, these were his people and they accepted him as he was.
