This wasn't how Renfri thought she'd spend Valentine's day. She'd expected Ri to be waiting at her apartment, not a strange woman with a polyjuice potion. Nor being told her boyfriend was in fact a pirate and had been seriously injured. Nor being asked to impersonate this strange woman. And yet? She found herself agreeing. It was the weekend, no classes for a few days. That's what they wanted. Renfri to impersonate this woman for a few days, and care for Ri, until he was well enough to travel. Then they could bring him to her place where he could finish recovering.
To say this was probably the most terrifying hours of her life was an understatement. Getting a crash course in how to pretend to be this woman. Then traveling to a pirate ship, the woman leaving her alone when she was almost there. Then meeting the captain, a man who had been briefed on the plan but acted like he would crush her at the slightest mistake. She'd met Bjorn once before, but he hadn't been this... intimidating. After a brief meeting with him, to understand the severity of the situation, and a very detailed introduction of the ship, she was sent to Ri's cabin and told to stay there unless he called for her. Ri was asleep when she entered, but when she did she couldn't help but pause and stare. Burns. Extensive burns. Though thankfully not fiendfyre, but it almost triggered something in her. She understood this pain. Better then anyone else. She'd almost been killed by fire. She swallowed the lump in her throat and locked the cabin door. To the rest of the crew they would think she was Luthien, caring for Ri as he recovered. She'd been given a few more polyjuice potions for the time she had to leave the cabin, but the plan was not to leave until Ri was able to move a little more comfortable. She could feel the polyjuice potion wearing off, and looked down at her hand as it started to change.
There wasn't anything she could do now though for him. There was already a healing salve on his burns, and he was sleeping soundly. So, she transformed into her jaguar form and curled up on the floor by his bed. She was a mass of dark fur, guarding her injured boyfriend.

Today was supposed to end up different. But someone sabotaged the distillery. Now Ri lay on his back burned. Most of the damage had happened to his right side, and once the cloth had been peeled away from them, he had insisted to move so that his lift side faced the the door. A traitor could still be on deck, he wasn't going to give anyone a chance to do anything worse. He had sent a patronus to an old friend, and they were able to quickly send what was needed. Plants from Hy-Brasil were always better than off. The thick orange salve had been placed on his burns and Ri continued to drink, letting the alcohol numb his entire body. Sweet relief came when he finally fell asleep.
Though he didn't realize it at the time, his girlfriend had been brought on deck, and placed into his room. Muttering in Brasilic as he sleep.
In time, pain returned and brought him back to consciousness. The pain was dull still, but enough to wake him. He opened his eyes to see a large, black fur mass on his floor. It could only be his girlfriend. While someone could easily impersonate her with polyjuice, one wouldn't be able to take her big cat form. He gave a small smile and signed. "Guess you know."

Renfri was very comfortable in her cat form. Plus, she was feeling extremely protective. She knew she was rather... useless when human currently. Because she'd lost use of her dominate arm it meant using a wand was difficult. She was having to learn to rely on her other hand for everything. But as a big cat? She still had her teeth and claws. She was still a force to be reckoned with when in cat form. A very dangerous force to be reckoned with. She'd begun to doze just a little, her ears flicking back and forth to listen to the sounds of Ri breathing, or any sounds outside the cabin. Alert, but not on edge.
She heard the shift in his breathing and the ever so slight movement of his rousing. Immediately she lifted her head and turned those golden cat eyes to stare at him, unblinking. He offered the smallest of smiles and spoke. After a moment of unblinking staring she transformed back into her human form, sitting cross legged on the floor. "Know what? About the piracy, your getting blown up, or Deva being kidnapped?" She answered quite seriously. Clearly she knew. She'd been filled in between Bjorn and Luthien. "To be honest, I was more confused about you knowing Deva then anything else." She added lightheartedly, thought it was actually true. Deva was Rhys' ex girlfriend. Clearly Renfri know knew what Deva had been up to since breaking up permanently with Rhys.

Awaking from his slumber, Ri met eyes with the large cat, the golden eyes steady on him. He let her speak and his smile grew, but only just. he let out a breathy chuckle. "Your caught up." All in all, he was glad that she was there. If someone had to keep a watch over him, he was glad it was her.
She was surprised that he knew Deva, and Ri wondered how she knew the woman. But he did know that Renfri knew many people in many areas. He knew that Deva worked for the ministry, which was one reason why she was kept out of many things. He took a few deep breath, his lungs finally feeling clear. This wasn't the way they had planned to spend their weekend. Now that Renfri was back to teaching school, their time together was much more limited than before. "Sorry." He softly spoke. Moving his left hand summoning a curious wooden ocarina.

Seeing him smile, and knowing that he only really smiled for her, was reassuring. Ri wasn't much of a smiler. Ever. But as they'd gotten to know each other he'd started to smile more and more around her. "So caught up I'm practically a pirate myself these days," she teased lightly. She wouldn't mention to him yet that if she ever had to leave the cabin she would be impersonating his crewmate, the polyjuice potions stashed in her bag that she'd left by the door.
Renfri had tried not to look too much at his burns before now, while he'd been sleeping. But him being awake drew her attention to him and she couldn't help but catch the burns out of the corner of her eyes. They'd been treated, thank god. But that didn't mean she didn't know what was under the bandages. She remembered when she'd been burned she'd been in so much pain that even breathing felt like too much effort. They'd talked a bit about her own accident, and he knew some of the details, and how scaring, mentally and physically it had been. And after living with her on weekends he no doubt knew her fear of fire better then anyone else. He'd seen her flinch away from the smallest of flames. It was a pain she never would have wanted him to experience himself. A pain that she'd never wanted him to be able to understand even a fraction of. He apologized, and her expression softened. She got up from the floor, moving to the bed and sitting on the edge. She was careful, to make sure the bed didn't move and that she didn't touch any of his injuries. She reached out, brushing some of his hair clear of his face. It was a tender gesture. "Why are you apologizing?" Was it for being injured? That wasn't something he could have controlled.

She said that she was caught up, and he understood that. From what he knew of her life before her accident, she would fit in quite nicely. He huffed a bit of a laugh. He was sure there were still secrets that she had yet to learn, but this now meant that they were simply closer. He was sure that the captain had worked out some deal, and wondered if the crew knew that Renfri was even here.
The orange salve had soothed skin, though he still felt the pain. He wondered how it would feel for Renfri to see him like this. Her own traumatic burns happened not too long ago. He knew her fear of fire, and did what he could to take care of anything that required flames while they were together. When she woke up, he was there to help comfort her. It felt nice to care of someone other than him self, to worry about their happiness and state of mind. He hadn't felt that since he had been banished. Renfri had changed his life in more ways that she may ever know. After a simple apology, she moved closer, and he welcomed her soft touch. He looked up at her softly as she wondered why. "Plans, memories." He would have shrugged if the movement didn't hurt.
After some time looking deep into her eyes, he got another drink, the alcohol dulling the pain. Ri took a chance to raise his magical instrument to his lips, and wit his left hand play a strange, non complete tune. One that would magically help the healing process.

Renfri wasn't really known for being "loving" or "comforting". She'd been one of the boys when it came to curse breaking, taking on just as many challenges as the best, pushing her limits, taking risks. Spending her days in rundown huts, or rough and tumble pubs. But seeing Ri like this? It seemed to bring out the soft side of Renfri. Though, to be honest Ri had been bringing that side out of her pretty often. Doubly so now. Seeing him like this. Knowing how much pain he must be in. Knowing what he must be feeling. At least she'd been in so much pain that she couldn't remain conscious. That had been a blessing in disguise. As he explained what he was apologizing for, she smiled a little and chuckled. She shook her head "Way I see it, that hasn't really changed. Apart from spending the weekend together we didn't have any official plans, did we?" They tended to be pretty spontaneous with their activities. Planning hadn't really been a part of their relationship past him coming to spend the weekends at her place.
She leaned back a bit when he reached for his alcohol, so that he could drink without bumping her. Another person might stop him, but she didn't. Between her own drinking tendencies and knowing how much pain he was in, she wouldn't stop the action. It was probably the best he had around to numb the pain. Then, he reached for his instrument, playing a few, half completed notes. She smiled again, and shifted on the bed, settling there. Close, but not disturbing his injuries. After a few peaceful moments of his playing she spoke. "You should probably sleep more." With his injuries, he wouldn't be able to move for a bit. The best thing he could do was sleep through it.

Ri looked longingly at Renfri. Had he been in a better state, he would have already taken her into his arms. But the pain was very real. Neither of them were necessarily soft people. But Renfri was gentle and loving towards him. He apologized and she stated that very little had changed. His smile widened a bit. She was right. While they had spent a lot of time together, they had made very little plans. They tended to go with what came.
The woman let him drink. Most on the ship would let him as well. Anyone who tried to stop him, didn't realize what a bad idea it was. Ri wasn't the type to take people telling he'd had too much to drink lightly. Both he and Renfri were heavy drinkers, and she also understood what he was going through. The alcohol had been helping him numb the constant burn coming form his own skin. He played a strange, half tune that he knew would help in the long run as well. After playing some, Renfri suggested that he rest. He nodded, setting the Druid conduit down and closing his eyes.
The rest of the weekend went very much the same. A bit of conversation, but mostly rest. Ri needed it. By Sunday evening he was able to move. The burns were still there, but the salve had done it's job. The pain had subsided, now he just needed to heal. He had seen the woman, on a few occasion enter or exit his cabin with the appearance of Luthien, so he wasn't surprised when she drunk the potion before they left. It had seemed best that he take the chance to rest off the ship. The druid would be out of the way, safe, and able to heal up nicely while staying with Renfri.

Ri had seemed to agree with her recommendation of sleep and he set the instrument down and closed his eyes. Renfri shift off the bed, transforming back into her jaguar form and curling up on the floor right by the bed. Close enough that he could reach down from the bed and feel the dark fur that covered her cat form. It wasn't that she didn't want to talk, but she was a bit in... protective mode. She was on edge over the fact that Ri had gotten blown up essentially and the one behind it was on the loose. She had a sneaking suspicion that she'd be spending a lot of time in cat form, as it seemed the best defense.
And she truly did spend most the weekend in cat form. When she had to leave the cabin she took one of the polyjuice potions the captain and the female pirate had arranged, taking on her appearance and pretending to be her. But as a majority she spent the days in the cabin with Ri, chatting when he was feeling up to it but mostly just watching over him as he recoverd.
By Sunday evening Ri had healed enough to move and the decision was made for him to come stay at Renfri's place to recover. He'd be out of the way of the crew, so out of harm's way. And, unfortunately, Renfri still had to work. Calling out of work for a pirate boyfriend that had gotten blown up would be quite the story to spin with the Headmistress, but for his safety's sake she wouldn't attempt it. Her absence would cause too many questions.
Before they left she downed another polyjuice potion, and then they were on their way, leaving the pirate ship behind. With apparation Renfri was able to get them to her place before the polyjuice wore off. She'd settled Ri in the bed while she went to the bathroom, the potion finally wearing off so she could take off the make up and change out of the pirate woman's clothes. Feeling her self again, she left the bathroom and headed back to Ri. "No offense to your friend, but I'm really not a fan of her style." Though, ironically there were a few similarities in their dressing styles, Renfri much preferred her own.

In a way, it felt good to get out of his room and off the ship. Being on the ship usually meant that he had a job to do, but being injured meant that he was useless. Once the potion had taken effect, the two moved with purpose. Getting off the ship apperating and entering her place before the potion could ware off. She got him laying on her bed, where he settled as best as he could. He breathed in the familiar scent of the apartment as Renfri took care of a few things in the bathroom.
Renfri returned, looking much like herself, stating that she wasn't to big into Luthien's style. He gave a light chuckle, it was nice to feel less pain. Hopefully the scars would dissipate with the help of potions and healing magic. "She is a unique one." He was friends with the other woman, and even had close encounters in the past with her. So, Ri knew well enough that Luthien was her own special brand of crazy. The woman was not one to be crossed lightly, he knew that she craved and loved chaos and causing torture. While he could see some similarities between his friend and his love, Renfri was special, different. She was the one he cared for most. She had helped him move on with his life.
He knew that Renfri had been extremally on edge while on the ship. Remaining mostly in her large black cat form proved that. "Feeling calmer now that we're off the ship?"

Renfri ran a hand through her hair, before eyeing the ends. Part of her wanted to shower, but she wanted to make sure Ri was settled before doing anything else. Perhaps she should think about food as well. After all, on the ship they'd been stuck with whatever the crew had brought them. No offense, but she wanted something a bit better quality. Renfri moved to the bed where he'd settled and sat on the end. "Mm. I suppose she'd have to be to be a pirate," she mused thoughtfully. She'd come to accept him being a pirate rather quickly. It just made the most sense, to be honest. Plus, as a bit of a history nerd she did know magical pirates were a thing. She hadn't pressed the subject too much though, as the mood of the ship had made it quite clear that it would be a very bad time to ask questions.
As he mentioned her feeling calmer Renfri looked away to hide her slight embarrassment. But could you blame her? What the information she had been given it had been clear that Ri could have been in quite a bit of danger. But not only that he'd been severely hurt. Finally she looked back at him. "How are you feeling?" She asked instead of answering his question. Because honestly? Even now she still felt a bit on edge. Because Ri could have been killed in that explosion. An explosion someone had caused. It made her angry just thinking about it.

Food on the ship was...edible. The crew rarely complained, but it was clear that those who worked in the galley were far from chefs. It was common knowledge that if you wanted something that was actually good, and not just for survival, you ate off the ship, at your own expense. He gave a soft chuckle as she mentioned that one would need to be unique to be a pirate. Well, that was true. He, himself was a pirate, knew himself to be quite different from other Druids, banished or not. Prior to the accident, Renfri hadn't known that he was a Pirate, just knew that he worked on a ship. But the idea of it didn't seem to phase her for long. Ri knew that questions would come in time, and when they did, he'd need to be careful with how and what he told her. For her safety as much as the ship and crew.
Ri could tell that Renfri had been tense. She had spent most of the time in panther form, a form that was large and had full use of all limbs, along with having claws and teeth that could easily kill whatever they impacted. As she looked away, Ri moved to sit behind her. She changed the subject and asked him how he was. He gave an endearing smile to her. "Better" Then, he did something that he hadn't done for what felt like eternity. He wrapped his arms around her and softly pulled her in. There was still some sting, but feeling Renfri's wait on him was enough to put the feeling into the background of his mind. He softly kissed the side of her face as he held her. "Thank you." He whispered softly as he closed her eyes, knowing her touch as well as his own.
