I want to feel weightless 'cause that woudl be enough Addy paused and processed all that Brígh spoke about. It was a lot to take in, and she paused to think about what it meant. ”The Order? You mean the same Order from the war?” If it was still around…then either it had been all these years, or there was a reason for it. It was the first Addy had heard about it outside of a History lesson. She paused, though looked back at her friend when she mentioned James Potter. Addy had very limited interaction with the eldest Potter with their age gap and different houses, but he was a much different character than Albus was. The premise was intriguing and something that she would get behind—the idea of teaching oneself and others more advanced material that their professors did not cover however her mind instantly jumped to what rules they would be breaking (if any) by doing this. ”Brígh…there has to be some good reason they aren’t letting us in. Plus, I’m sure it’s against the rules in some way? The Professors would probably say the material they teach us in NEWT level classes is enough as well as dueling club.” It left an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach. The drive to use such a path to be the best in such an area but then getting caught.
She never thought herself a whirlwind, instead preferring to be compared to something stable and consistent—maybe a mountain? When they had fought in the library, it had felt as if Hurricane Brígh was trying to move Mt. Addy an inch to the left and had failed even with the physical force supplied by the Charms textbook. Still, Addy’s cheeks flushed pink when she brought up the obvious fact of her and Cheeses’ physical relationship. She cringed, mainly out of embarrassment as she preferred privacy when it came to that. But, Brígh was not wrong. While Brígh may not have wanted to think about it, Addy hadn’t admitted how often the thought and image popped into her head—her face flushed a darker pink. ”He was always cute, he just got tall at the end of last year and…” She trailed off, not really sure what words to use next—such a rare event it was when Addy Slater didn’t know what to say. Addy rolled over back onto her stomach, tired of staring at the ceiling. Her face was still pink, as were her ears probably. ”Honestly, Brígh—how am I supposed to be Quidditch Captain when Quidditch always reminds me of him?” She had spoken without thinking and stopping herself, again a rare event, and she wished she had kept the thought about those extra practices to herself.
Brígh was not about to let the subject be changed, and Addy figured that after so many years, some of her own stubbornness would eventually rub off on Brígh but be used at the most inopportune time—against her. This is where Addy felt stuck. She had spent all this time pushing away the idea of Cheese in that way; however, the thought of him with anyone else left her with all these feelings. Addy laid her head down on her arms. She wasn’t looking at Brígh, but while she thought but then she met her gaze. ”And what truth is that?” Addy asked. It was almost a challenge. Things that Addy would never say out loud first or admit first. There was no guidance here, no set steps to follow, and she supposed that’s what made her uncomfortable. It was such an unknown that only seemed to mean failure in some way.

Brígh mentioned Phoenix Rising, perhaps with less tact than she should have. Addy echoed her call to the Order, the very same from the war. "Yeah. The same Order of the Phoenix," said Brígh, her eyes searching those of her friend. Brígh scrutinised Addy as the latter outlined that there was a reason why the Order wouldn't allow students. "I bet they just don't want to be responsible. But we're of age. We have every right to prepare for the real world," said Brígh fiercely. "Besides, Madam Macmillan offered to help as well. I bet she's in the Order. I don't know of any school rules we'd be breaking - there's no rule against gathering and practicing magic," said Brígh. "And we can gather valuable information to give to the Order. Like what's going on at the school, from a students prospective. They won't underestimate us."
The conversation drifted towards whatever Addy had started with Cheese. Brígh was convinced that the pair simply had to open their eyes and see that they were in fact due a happily ever after. She sighed, resisting rolling her eyes at the mention of Quidditch. Brígh had absolutely no interest in the sport - she only supported her friends. "Compartmentalise?" she suggested, knowing that pushing Addy to face her feelings was as useful as Brígh on a broom.
Patient as she never was, Brígh squeezed Addy's hand/ "You know the truth. The one where you have feelings for him. They're not going away - I bet they're getting stronger. No matter how hard you try to deny it," said Brígh firmly. "The worst thing that could happen is that he denies you. Which I highly doubt. And how would that be much worse or weirder than this mess you both have gotten us in?" asked Brígh, arching a brow in challenge.

I want to feel weightless 'cause that woudl be enough It was a lot of information in so few words to absorb at once. Talk of the Order of the Phoenix still in existence after so many years—basically a whole generation. It caused Addy to pause for a moment. Was this something she wanted to be involved in? What would her parents say about joining something so clandestine? Her mother’s voice popped into her head, ’You can become an Auror like your sister. Perhaps you’ll get it right this time.’ She could clearly see her crossed arms and expression complete with a side-eye toward Claire as she spoke about her. Addy had learned quite a bit over the Christmas break. She thought through Brígh’s words, Madam Macmillan was of Harry Potter’s year at school if she remembered her history. Though she wasn’t the only veteran of that generation left, their dueling professor was rumored to be as well. It didn’t make sense to Addy that they wouldn’t support such a cause except to shield them from the horrors they had to see. She didn’t answer right away, wondering if indeed there were no rules against this.
The idea sat uncomfortably in her stomach, but the other side of her—the ambitious side of her was excited by such an idea. Helping such a cause, to do good. ”I don’t know about spying. Hogwarts is supposed to be safe, but I don’t see the harm in practicing magic.” Addy thought out loud. The last thing she wanted was for one of them to end up in a situation over their heads and in danger. They were intelligent kids but still kids nonetheless. Addy wondered who else would join, maybe Eggy or Cheese, if Brígh physically dragged them to it, she supposed.
Addy looked back up from where she had put her head down when Brígh squeezed her hand. The situation being put so bluntly gave her butterflies. It had been what she had denied in her own mind for so long by not allowing herself to think the thought at all. For once, Addy didn’t have a quick response. She felt stuck and especially because Brígh had a point. If Addy did finally budge and Cheese didn’t reciprocate…well, let's just say Addy did not deal with or enjoyed failure in any way. It wasn’t her goal to fail at anything, let alone this. ”I’ve never…” She looked away and paused at the uncomfortable thought that had popped into her mind. ”I don’t want to lose one of my best friends, Brígh.” She spoke softly, which was unlike Addy. Normally her unwavering confidence came through in how she spoke clearly and strongly at almost all times. But in this—understanding what was happening between her and this boy…she was scared.

Brígh blinked as Addy remained silent, considering her proposal. Addy was not one to shy away from danger, so long as no rules were broken. It was something that Brígh greatly admired in her best friend, the fact that despite her blood and her upbringing and their vast and variable differences, Addy would give anything logical thought. Well, almost anything. Brígh scoffed, and rolled her eyes. "No safer place than Hogwarts, that right?" asked Brígh, bemused. "Do you forget what has happened at the school the past few decades? Not only was it mostly destroyed nearly twenty years ago due to Death Eaters attacking, but a student was murdered within the castle, the Beauxbatons carriage exploded, and gloom has settled around the castle like a black mould. Now, tell me again that there's no safer place than Hogwarts," Brígh challenged, her eyes bright and intense.
Exhaling, Brígh nodded as Addy acquiesced to learning extra magic. "It will be useful in the future. I promise," said Brígh with a slight smile. She saw the wheels turning in Addy's head, but the conversation veered away from Phoenix Rising and the Order, to rockier subjects. Namely Cheese, the third member of their little trio of best friendship since first year.
Chewing on the inside of her cheek, Brígh considered Addy. She started to say something and Brígh nodded encouragingly. Perhaps this would be the shift her friend needed to realise that things would only go back to normal if they accepted that things were different. Her soft voice did not speak of weakness, but rather of longing. How Addy's strength of will and character drove her to such stubborn actions to accept the basest facts. Her confidence was rarely slighted, but Brígh knew that Addy was truly at war with herself about this. "Addy... you already have. And now it's time to move past that and figure out your new normal," she replied, brushing a lock of blonde hair away from Addy's face.

I want to feel weightless 'cause that woudl be enough Addy tried to think through the different paths this endeavor could take them. Was there a way this was against school rules or anything of that nature? There wasn’t anything that came to mind. In the past, such restrictions were placed there, but staff members but were lifted very quickly. However, it seemed that contrary to what Addy had thought—Brígh did manage to retain something from History of Magic. Then again, it might have been stories from James Potter no doubt passed down from his father and family. ”Of course I didn’t forget, but maybe they added to the security here because of that.” Addy rebutted. Then again, nothing was foolproof. Azkaban had fallen just a year and a half prior after centuries. Still, Brígh had very valid points. The past few years had been tumultuous between the student deaths and the Triwizard Tournament.
Addy shook her head. There was something odd when Brígh was right about not just one but two things over Addy on the same day. Though she was having trouble admitting the second one. ”I don’t doubt its usefulness. I’m worried about the risk.” And not the risk of getting caught—but the danger this might pose if they ended up in situations that they could not control. But it also could be that nothing came of it, and it was handled by the actual Order. ”Well extra practice couldn’t hurt—but I don’t want us to get in over our heads.” Someone had to be the voice of reason, and on cue, it was Addy. Such things are what separated the two ambitious girls into their respective houses.
And then onto the second thing. Merlin, when Brígh was right, she was right, and Addy felt the irritation grow inside of her the more she realized this. Losing and being wrong were not natural feelings for her and typically led to a sour mood. Addy looked away, feeling that growing annoyance before looking back finally. But she paused, staring out ahead of her before realizing there wasn’t another way—not anymore. The moment Addy had slept with Cheese after that first time was the moment she had fallen and not realized it. That first time she still thought of as purely a heat of the moment impulse, though impulses typically had some basis for them. ”You know that first time…I could have stopped it, and I didn’t.” Addy had repeated this moment in her mind over and over again for the past eight or so months. ”I didn’t want to.” A split-second decision on an experience that was never just a physical thing. It explained why it kept continuing throughout the year despite her insistence that it needed to stop and she just wanted to be friends. She let out a quick sigh in frustration. ”You’re enjoying being right, aren’t you?” She muttered in apparent defeat.

Brígh rattled off all the reasons why they ought to prepare themselves, though Addy as always had a rebuttal ready. Brígh giggled, shaking her head. "You're impossible. No wonder I love you so much," said Brígh, nudging Addy with her shoulder. "What's life without a bit of risk? Anyways, it's not like we're going to leave Hogwarts and be in a little bubble of peace, definitely not. We're going into the real world, where there won't be controlled environments, and people want to hurt us because of what we believe in." Addy didn't want to get in over her head, and Brígh nodded. That was reasonable, she supposed. But with Parvati's guidance and James' blessing, Brígh was certain they could work something out.
Continuing on, the pair miraculously delved into the topic that had caused grating between them previously. Brígh had taken a step back to let Addy figure out things on her own, even as impatient as she was. Her decision seemed to have been a good one, as Addy brought up Cheese this time, rather than the other way around. Brígh listened, uncharacteristically patient and quiet as Addy explained how she could have stopped things from going further with Cheese, but she hadn't wanted to. Nodding, Brígh replied. "You're allowed to have wants and needs, Ads. Your whole life doesn't have to be one big plan." Addy was logical and realistic, though this leap she had taken with their other best friend was neither of those things.
Laughing, Brígh shook her magnificent coppery head. "I do! But I enjoy you being happy more. And I know that you can be as long as you face the truth," she replied gently, dropping a playful kiss on Addy's cheek. "So... what do you think then?" asked Brígh, serious one more.

I want to feel weightless 'cause that woudl be enough These two friends were opposite ends of the spectrum, Brígh moving with the speed of a small hurricane while Addy was looking both ways before crossing the street. This topic, however, had her more conflicted than usual. Then again, there was that part of her that did want to do something positive along this route but had abstained in favor of her own personal goals. ”I know. Claire won’t tell me a lot about her work, but I read the papers and ask her anyway.” Addy wanted to know more for this reason, but knowing the real world helped guide her academic choices. Still, it was known that the career of an Auror was dangerous, as was any of the Law Enforcement careers. But Addy nodded her head, submitting to her friend. ”Alright.” She agreed to join this cause, but also, she wasn’t about to let Brígh go off on her own on such a venture. Somebody needed to be the voice of reason. ”Who else is in this club?”
Addy rolled her eyes. How often had she heard that statement from Brígh throughout the years as she tried her best to plan her next steps? This required constant reevaluation which was probably not any different than what she was doing now over the issue of a certain McLaggen. Wants and needs. What Addy wanted to be straightforward so she could process it. Or better yet, she needed to not have these feelings messing with her everyday thoughts. Addy shook her head at Brígh’s laugh and let her be her usual affectionate self. It wasn’t often that Addy would admit she wasn’t right on some topic. Addy didn’t respond right away, mulling over the facts. There weren’t any more excuses and apparently nothing left to say. Addy felt her growing frustration at a situation she couldn’t figure out, a puzzle she couldn’t solve. ”Fine.” She mumbled under her breath, letting out a small breath of frustration. She looked away for a moment. ”Maybe I like him as more than a friend. But that doesn’t mean anything will come of it, or it would even work. We’re all about to graduate and go our separate ways. And then what if something does come of it, but then it doesn’t work?” It all came out at once, perhaps just everything Addy had been holding in since they’d first slept together, and she tried to manage it all on her own while her best friend was away. It wasn’t like Addy to be so insecure and questioning, this wasn’t her at all.

Brígh breathed a sigh of relief as Addy finally relented, and agreed to join her endeavour. "Well... basically just the two of us. And Kat Krum," said Brígh with a grimace. "I think Isabel O'Hare in our year may be interested too... d'you reckon Cheese would want to join? I think it would be smart, he's so friendly and -" Brígh stopped herself abruptly. Cheese territory was dangerous. And yet as Addy steered the conversation, the topic of Cheese was brought up, and no fights happened. Brígh imparted her own wisdom on her best friend, promising that knowing and taking that risk would be better than sitting and existing in wonder.
Finally - finally Addy admitted that perhaps she liked Cheese as more than a friend. Brígh narrowed her eyes at Addy as she tried to sidestep once again. It was exhausting, really, bringing Addy's head out of her ass. "You must be stupid if you think seven years of friendship will just disappear because of work. You know I'm going to force the two of you to live with me, no matter what happens between you and Cheese. And it will be really awkward if you just slag about and do nothing," Brígh retorted sharply. "And if things don't work then who cares? You did your best. And you're already on this path. There's no way except for forward," said Brígh.

I want to feel weightless 'cause that woudl be enough If there was one thing that was notable about Addy and Brígh’s friendship was that despite any disagreements or differences in opinions, they stuck by one another’s side. Honestly, had Kat Krum or James come up and asked Addy to participate themselves, she very likely would have brushed them off and refused. But, this was Brígh asking her—so it was different. After seven years of friendship, her loyalty didn’t waver and likely wouldn’t. It wouldn’t be like Addy if it did. She wasn’t familiar with Isabel, though, or at least she hadn’t interacted with her as much as Kat. ”Name one time you’ve ever let Cheese say ‘no’ to you?” Addy asked, giving her friend a look. Hurricane Brígh rarely let their Hufflepuff friends get away with not participating. However, the abrupt stop wasn’t lost on Addy, but she didn’t acknowledge it for now.
Addy realized the situation. It seemed that ever since New Year’s eve, whenever she and Brígh got into an argument, it was worse than anything before. Aside from ignoring her own feelings, Addy knew she was putting off the fact that this thing, whatever it was or wasn’t, between herself and Cheese could actually have the capability of coming in between herself and Brígh as well. The frustration and impatience were evident in her voice as she spoke, the tone she had expected much sooner. Addy didn’t respond right away, taking in her friend’s words. ’And if things don’t work then who cares?’ Addy would care. Addy would care a lot. She didn’t want that kind of failure to follow her around, especially when the cost would be one of her dearest friends.
”Brígh…if I do pursue this and it doesn’t work, if I fail—then I lose one of my best friends…” Addy spoke, not staring at anything in particular. She paused and let out a sigh. Hearing the escalation in how frustrated Brígh was, she figured she might as well admit out loud what she had admitted to herself before she was attacked with another textbook or whatever Brígh had close at hand. There was inexplicable anxiety rising in her chest, all the feelings she learned to push down so she wouldn’t be blinded, but now it was all that she could think about. ”I care about him.” Addy finally spoke out loud, her voice hardly with its usual confidence. ”A lot.” Addy glanced at Brígh, feeling her face go a little warm at the confession. Feelings were not what Addy ever had as the main topic of conversation. Ask her about History, about Potions or Charms, and she could ramble for hours but this? This was new.

Despite their many differences, Brígh and Addy had an unshakable friendship. It was as beautiful as it was terrifying, as these two were a force to be reckoned with. Even though Brígh was a brazen Gryffindor, and Addy was an ambitious Slytherin, they had bonded in which Brígh knew she could count on Addy for everything. She would even go so far as to risk her life if it meant giving Addy moments to save herself. With Phoenix Rising, she didn't suspect they would put themselves in the direct line of trouble - but the fact of the matter was that the Purifiers were not kind or thoughtful or mindful of the school year and of students. They attacked without planning, and without any patterns. Brígh wholly believed that they had to prepare themselves to defend those who could not defend themselves. She knew Addy would feel the same, even if it was scary. She was not the sort to back down from a challenge.
Letting out a huff of laughter, Brígh offered Addy a cheeky grin. "True. But honestly, when has he been able to say no to either of us? I just... ask the better questions," said Brígh with a playful wink. "I dunno about this one though. You know him, he likes to just not involve himself in too much. But I'm sure he'd say yes to you when you become his girlfriend...." she added, giving Addy a nudge.
Addy remained quiet throughout Brígh's soliloquy. She looked immensely thoughtful, and as if the weight of the world was on her shoulders. At first, Brígh wanted to comment that it was just Cheese. But then again, Cheese and herself very well made up much of Addy's world. It was a sentiment Brígh shared - she didn't know what she would do without those two. Addy spoke, and Brígh wrapped her arms around her friend in a gentle embrace, sharing her own personal strength despite all they had been through in the last few weeks. "There's no way to look but forward. I will be here no matter what. And if my suspicions are wrong... I will still be here. No matter what. A mountain can't stop a hurricane, but they can exist together in harmony," said Brígh, planting a kiss on Addy's cheek. "Will you find him now?" she asked quietly.

I want to feel weightless 'cause that woudl be enough The premise was not a bad one. Addy could agree with that. A group of students who wanted to practice what they had been taught and then more? There couldn’t be anything wrong with that. And it wasn’t as if Addy needed an excuse or invitation to essentially showcase the results of her constant studying over the past seven years to her classmates. However, convincing people to join them might be difficult. It wasn’t just a club, but something that had a broader purpose and response to events at Hogwarts over the recent years. Addy, Brígh, and all of them had been so young when the students had been killed and attacks perpetrated on the grounds of Hogwarts—the idea of it ever happening again gave her anxiety more than anything. Addy’s eyes widened with Brígh said the word: girlfriend, and she swore his heart might have stopped for a mere millisecond. Saying that word out loud? Well, it made it all seem a bit more real.
Addy managed to smile a bit at the metaphor. A mountain and a hurricane seemed to describe them in their personalities and role in the friend group. But she didn’t answer the question of whether to find him just now. A lot had just happened for Addy, whether she showed it or not. Opening herself up to such an idea and emotion displayed a level of vulnerability that she had never intended. Putting down that shield she used to push through life for a mere second was terrifying. ”Do you know who Yas is?” Addy asked instead, remember the conversation she had with Cheese on their last visit to the village. The memory of the giggling girl at the bar came to mind again, which left a strange swooshing and sinking feeling in her stomach and chest once more. Although, after this conversation with Brígh it made more sense. The mere idea of Cheese and some other giggling Slytherin girl made her immensely uncomfortable, not to mention a little angry as well.

Hints and nudges had turned out more fruitful than blunt accusations, Brígh had learned. At least, this was the case with Addy. Perhaps if the roles had been reversed, Brígh would have appreciated the overwhelming honesty that she'd provided at first. But unlike Addy, she was quite certain of her feelings and always acted without consideration. Just another difference between the two, but something that connected the pair on a deeper level. She described them as a mountain and a hurricane, stoic and unmoving and chaotic, which she considered to be quite apt.
Brígh blinked. Yas? "Er," said Brígh, flabbergasted. "Can't say that I do?" she said, confused. "Is this something to do with Cheese or with the upcoming ministry mixer?" asked Brígh slowly. She racked her brains for any mention of Yas, but couldn't think of anything. Then again, this person was most certainly not in their year. "Maybe Lily knows Yas?" She suggested. "Even so... what does it matter? Rafe only has eyes for you." It was a mark of sincerity that Brígh used Cheese's real name rather than his nickname. There was no doubt in her mind that she was correct. Now only to get Addy to see it her way.

I want to feel weightless 'cause that woudl be enough Addy wasn’t sure how to feel now, knowing that Brígh didn’t know who Yas was either. In the back of her mind, she tried to cycle through the many faces over the years at school, but she couldn’t picture a face. Addy shook her head, she’d almost forgotten about the mixer, and a small wave of panic hit her chest. It was unlike her. ”No…” Addy began, pausing as she remembered the conversation from January. ”When we were in Hogsmeade last—Cheese told me he was close to a girl named Yas.” She sighed, it wasn’t his fault and he’d been right. ”I don’t blame him though, at the time, we weren’t exactly talking like we used to.” It had been a splash of cold water to her face, and she’d come back down to Earth and out of her thoughts when she noted how troubled the boy in front of her had looked. Her best friend and she couldn’t even be there for him.
Brígh reassured her that whoever this other girl was, it didn’t matter. Addy didn’t answer, still in her own thoughts as she stared at the material of the blanket they were on. There was a lot more clarity in her mind, but that only seemed to make the weight of it all heavier. Since that trip to the village, she’d tried her best to shake whatever awkwardness she felt, and it had been a lot easier to interact with him like before. Wel not entirely like before, Quidditch practice had literally become just that. Plus she had the distraction of managing the Slytherin team now. With things a bit more normal and stable she didn’t feel the need to decide anything just yet. ”We should find Cheese and Eggy and get ready for lunch.” Addy muttered, the lack of confidence in her voice noteworthy. But she cleared her throat and stood up from the bed.

Brígh fixed Addy with a searching look, recognising the doubt that was evident in her best friend's eyes. "Ads, I don't reckon it's anything to worry about," said Brígh, but she knew that whatever she said, however uncharacteristically reasonable she was, when Addy had made up her mind there was no changing it. She was lucky to have broken through somewhat even now, and for that Brígh was proud of herself. After all, she just wanted to see her friends happy. Despite their different houses, Addy and Brígh had been stuck together like glue since first year. Brígh had never held any sort of ill will towards any particular house, preferring to judge the people rather than the houses they had been sorted into.
"Er, I mean, I'm close to Cheese and Dicky, but that doesn't mean I don't have feelings for them," Brígh replied with a hint of a smile. It was obvious that Addy had toiled over this for days and that she was confiding in Brígh was a step forward. Addy was silent for a beat, then mentioned getting ready for lunch. Brígh chewed nervously on the inside of her cheek. She had no plans to go down to lunch, none whatsoever. "Er... you go on ahead. I'm meeting Aidan," said Brígh, flushing scarlet. She couldn't help the grin that split across her lips, lighting up her whole face. "I'll tell you everything later. In the meantime - don't stress. All will be well." Brígh planted a kiss on Addy's cheek, then in her friends clothing, dashed out the door of their room to face her fate.
