As Brígh pulled him into another kiss, Aidan gave a soft laugh as he eagerly responded, one hand curling into the soft grass as he hovered over her and willingly gave in to the flood of sensations washing over him. It was impossible to describe, almost like first stepping onto Hy-Brasil and feeling pure magic shoot its way into your senses and blood and the magic that already lay dormant inside you. It felt similar to that, because kissing Brígh felt like an injection of pure adrenaline, a spark of fire that lit every one of his nerves and sent a bolt of lightning down his spine. But the magic on Hy-Brasil was for everyone, a sensation that no visitor was spared as they were woven into the tapestry of the island’s magic. This was just him and Brígh, suspended in a single moment in a clearing where it seemed like the world was spinning even as they were frozen in what couldn’t be called anything except a perfect moment. He didn’t want to rush it, sprint through the mixture of happiness and pleasure until they were all used up and gone. Aidan kissed her slowly instead, wanting to memorize how his lips felt on hers and the feeling of running his fingers through her brilliantly bright red hair. But there wasn’t any desperation because he knew, some part deep inside him knew, that this wasn’t going to be the only time. There was a sense of beginning to this, the excitement of taking the first step on a new journey where you couldn’t see the full path ahead. He liked familiarity, liked knowing exactly what was coming next. His whole life had been set in stone by his family and Aidan had never pushed against it because that was exactly what he had wanted. But there was an unfamiliarity to this spark with Brígh, an unclear idea of where this might go, and he found he really liked that too. In some ways, it was like she had slid exactly into a missing piece of his life – the same tendency to smile and be happy, the same unending ability to see the good in everything. At the same time, Brígh represented something unknown too – the outside community that the druids tried so hard to hide from, an exciting and passionate way of experiencing the beauty and adventures that the world had to offer. The thought that Aidan could want both seemed impossible, a dizzying contradiction. But life could be like that, challenge you to grow into new and unexpected ways, and Aidan chose not to question it too much. Being here with Brígh made him happy, and did he need anything more than that? As they broke apart, Aidan gently rest his forehead against hers as his eyes slid closed, savoring the intimacy of the moment before he moved to lay beside her on the grass. Aidan looked up at the sky, eyes automatically searching out the first of the stars that had begun to twinkle into sight, before his attention inevitably turned sideways as he moved to look at Brígh again. The view was beautiful, of course – there was no other way to describe the untouched wild beauty of the island and the brilliance of the night sky. But Brígh was an irresistible magnet, able to attract his attention more than the serenity of the scene around them or the gentle coos and chirps of creatures in the nearby woods. “Me...on your mind?” he asked in wonder. His hand found hers and Aidan twined their fingers together as he admitted, “I already not concentrate. I spend…ten minutes healing wrong murtlap yesterday.” His face flushed red at the thought – he’d been called to tend to a murtlap’s broken leg, but had been daydreaming about Brígh and selected the wrong murtlap entirely. By the time he’d realized his mistake, he’d had to unwind the bandage and go find the right one. It was a particularly embarrassing situation for a druid, considering their unique affinity to animals, but Aidan found that she was always on his mind in some way these days. Her fingers were idly tracing his jawline, and Aidan used his free hand to capture hers in his and kiss the tips of her fingers. “I want to see you more. Still your teacher, yes?” he added teasingly, remembering their very first conversation where Brígh had questioned him about herbs and druid techniques. BRÍGH ENNIS O'DALAIGH

The sky had inevitably darkened as Brígh and Aidan lay wholly wrapped up in one another on the grass. Kissing him was like rereading a familiar story, but one that she had forgotten everything about. There was a sense of rightness and naturalness between them, as if they had known each other their whole lives. Their conversations had been deep, but never long winded, and Brígh and Aidan had shared countless giggles and stories with one another. Brígh had taught him some of her favourite British slang, such as mug, bollocks and geezer, while Aidan had been a patient teacher and learner, gifting her with some common Brasilic phrases. She had never been as keen a student, but with Aidan she was hungry for knowledge.
They had talked about themselves, about their families, about their worries and woes. Brígh felt as if she knew Aidan. They hadn't been able to see each other, but their conversations had been deep despite the language barrier. And now, laying on the grass and him hovering above her, Brígh wanted to stop time and live in this moment forever. After a long moment, they separated, and Aidan shifted so that he lay beside her on the grass. The pair looked up, silent but grinning broadly, at the night sky. "It's so much clearer here than I've ever seen. And the highlands don't even have heaps of light pollution," said Brígh, admiring the whorls of colour painted across the sky. The clouds of the Milky Way was a backdrop to hundreds of thousands of stars, dappled across the sky like sea spray across a beach. Brígh squeezed Aidan's hand, her cheeks sore from smiling so much.
Twisting her head to the side, Brígh found Aidan looking at her and her cheeks heated. "Well... as long as you got the right murtlap in the end," said Brígh with a giggle. She swallowed and nodded. "Yeah... definitely. I want to see you more too. I think... well, I know a few secret passageways out of the castle. And since I'm of age, I can probably come down more often," she said. "And you can come to Hogwarts. See the castle... if you wanted," she added, hesitantly. During their first meeting, Aidan had spoken about how traditional learning didn't really suit druids. "A different perspective, you know?" said Brígh hastily. "Maybe you'd even meet the giant squid," said Brígh, letting out a little laugh. Her gaze caught Aidan's, a moment of indescribable intensity. She leaned forward and kissed him, softly and hesitantly, knowing that there were many more to come. Laying back, Brígh pointed up at the sky. "How familiar are you with stars? What's that bright one there?" asked Brígh,

There weren’t many spots in Hogsmeade where you could sit and forget the world for a while – at least, nothing compared to Hy-Brasil. The meadow was a sweet and secluded spot, a type of oasis that barely existed in the mainland anymore. Aidan sighed slightly as he let himself melt into the soft grass, one of his hands absentmindedly running his fingers through the dirt before letting it go again. And the wind stirred up the sweet smells of the magical plants that grew wild, and also brought with it the soft coos and cries of the creatures in the forest – jobberknolls building their nests, nifflers wrestling each other, and crups barking to each other in the distance. In normal circumstances, Aidan’s mind was no one place in particular. It wandered from the feel of the forest around him to idle thoughts about his family or what he smelled or saw. …but now, he was almost unusually and single-mindedly focused, unable to tear his eyes away from Brígh. He gave a sheepish laugh at his murtlap story, although he didn’t feel embarrassment so much as relief that he had finally shared with someone. He was rather terrible at keeping secrets, but for once – he hadn’t wanted his family to know exactly how distracted he was. His ma was beginning to suspect (apparently the sight of Aidan writing extensive letters was positively baffling) but even she could be nowhere near the full truth. Aidan wrinkled his nose in deep thought as he processed Brígh’s idle thinking about the castle. “You…do not leave when you want?” he asked. It had never really occurred to him that Hogwarts students couldn’t simply wander down to the village whenever they fancied, and that they might need permission or a chaperone. It went against what he knew from his own community, since druids were much more independent about allowing their children to wander and observe freely. He made a small sound of disagreement at her next words. “I…would like not to go to Hogwarts. It feel cold and dark,” he said, thinking with distaste of the two times he had visited the castle for his OWLs and NEWTs. He and his friends had never spent much time indoors, only to take their exams really. Aidan’s face brightened at the thought of seeing a giant squid – that hadn’t exactly been part of the castle tour he’d gotten – but he was still doubtful at the idea of willingly venturing into a place with so much stone and mold. “Maybe,” he said finally, features twisted in contemplation, “for giant squid. And you.” His smile was lost as Brígh closed the distance between them again, and he turned his head so he could better capture her lips with his. It was new, all of this was indescribably new, but his heart felt warm from the sweetness of the moment and the fire in her eyes. There was no better way to describe Brígh except that she was warmth, and that was enough even to chase the darkness away. “Stars?” he repeated dazedly, attention still completely focused on the tingling of his lips and the softness of Brígh’s skin as he trailed his fingers down her cheek. “Oh…I no good. I never remember all stories.” It was never a problem with his little cousins – they liked when he just started making things up – but he figured Fae probably wouldn’t appreciate significant deviations from the druid culture when explaining to someone new to their ways. “Stars!” Aidan suddenly realized, shooting straight up until he was seated with his head craned up towards the night sky. Boudicca’s spear, he really was terrible with time. He shook his head at the thought. “It later than I thought. Someone will miss you! Time…to go back?”BRÍGH ENNIS O'DALAIGH

As Brígh explained to Aidan that she couldn't very well leave and visit Hogsmeade whenever she wanted, it occurred to her that perhaps this wouldn't make sense. Weren't druids free willed and spirited by any account? "No..." she replied slowly, frowning. "Though I wish I could. I'm of age in both the wizarding and muggle world..." she added after a moment. "I suppose it's about safety, isn't it? About professors knowing where you are always," she said. She mentioned the different passages she knew, and that those would probably help her escape from the confines of the castle walls.
Brígh chuckled, turning her gaze from the sky to Aidan once more. Even with the noise of distaste, he was still probably the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. "No Hogwarts for you then," she agreed, giving his hand a squeeze. "It's not too bad, but I imagine so different from what you're used to," she said. Brígh then mentioned the giant squid, which was likely to pique Aidan's interest. He had such a kind soul - he would be sure to befriend the squid. "And me," she echoed, unable to hide the smile that stretched across her lips. She couldn't resist leaning forward and kissing him, the sweetness of the moment overtaking her.
A comfortable silence settled between the two for a moment, before Brígh pointed out one of the brighter stars in the sky. Aidan's fingers lingered on her cheek, leaving an electrified sensation in their wake. Her heart thundered in her chest, her breaths ragged as she tried to focus her mind rather than lose herself in Aidan as she so fervently desired. "You must be a very good storyteller," she said quietly.
Brígh let out a yelp of surprise as Aidan sat up abruptly, exclaiming that it was later than they had both realised. Brígh had never really been one for rules, but he did have a point. What would the consequences be of her actions? She always acted first and thought later. So she joined him in sitting upright. "Eugh, you're right. But I want to stay here forever with you," she said, her mouth turning downwards into a frown. "I just want to be with you," she murmured, cupping his cheek in her hand. She drew him close for a final, lingering kiss, revelling in the sensation that everything felt like it was falling into place.

Aidan had a hard time wrapping his mind around mainlander ways. He didn’t think they were evil, or even bad. Most of the wizards and witches he met seemed to have the best intentions and were genuinely good people, even if they were terribly misguided in what could actually be considered best. Using Muggle technology, and adopting Muggle ways, as if they hadn’t been horribly persecuted by them in the past…or even the customs that wizards took on independent of the non-magical world. Aidan was baffled as to why anyone would want to use owls to deliver their post when there were actual magical birds perfectly capable of making the trip. Brígh explained to Aidan now why the professors didn’t allow them to travel to Hogsmeade on their own – to keep them safe, apparently. “Ah, so unicorn always safest in cage?” he asked, laughing slightly at the thought that he could or should impose rules for a creature based on what he thought was best for it. His smile curved into something more mischievous as he traced a hand down Brígh’s cheek and trailed his fingers over her lovely neck. “Maybe they should put bell on you, then they will know always where you go.”Still, even though Aidan didn’t have fond memories of his two brief visits to Hogwarts...he thought he could make an exception and go again. Of course, he had reached this decision on his own and it was completely unrelated to the beautiful girl looking at him with those eyes and telling him that she thought it wasn’t so bad. Obviously. “Well…” he began doubtfully, although glancing over at Brígh again erased his indecision and he sighed slightly as he smiled at her. “I ask at reserve if I go, to see giant squid. And then I go to see you too.” Aidan wasn’t a dishonest person by nature, but he didn’t mind the occasional lie – whether it was telling his ma that his little sister had eaten the last slice of pie or explaining to the caretakers why he and Eli had been found past midnight with a bunch of loose mooncalves and crups. And even though he liked Eli a lot and they had fun together, Brígh was a lot prettier. By Boudicca and all the spirits, Aidan didn’t want to say goodbye either…this evening had been perfect by every definition, from the moment Brígh had stepped out from the island’s only inn looking like a fairy until now, with the pair lying in the grass and tangled closely together. But he knew how concerned Fae and the Council were about the Hogwarts field trip to the island. There had been some Elders who didn’t want it to happen at all, and there had been others (including his grandmother) who supported it in a very limited way. No trouble at all, or they’d use the smallest excuse to stop it from happening in the future. Plus, Aidan didn’t want to disappoint Fae. Her hair looked gray a lot these days, and she seemed tired. So he closed his eyes as Brígh leaned in for a last, lingering kiss, and he ran his fingers through her hair as he sighed happily. “I want too,” he said quietly, “But I will see you tomorrow, yes? Come to one of our fires during festival, you hear many druid stories! I will tell one too.” It wasn’t the kind of promise he wished he could give her right now, but Aidan was thrilled that Brígh was actually here, in his home, and able to see some of their traditions. He secretly hoped that she would approve of what she saw, and walk away maybe wondering if there wasn’t something to the druid way after all…But until then, he’d take any stolen moment he could get with her.
