[attr="class","nuggetwords"]Adelaide enters the establishment with the same air as that of a runway, her heels making crisp sounds against the floor. The strong scent of coffee that most cafes tend to possess is undercut with something sweet, a sure sign that there will be something that her companion will be willing to eat. (And if not, her mind adds in reassurance, there’s also Sugarplum’s nearby for a snack.) She gives the room a cursory glance, noting the glass partition reducing health code violations in mixing feline and fur with food and the clear notice hanging on the wall assuring customers that part of the fee goes towards the rescued cats’ care - a bonus feature she’s certain he’ll be overjoyed to see.
Finding the cafe and its location and atmosphere - not at all connected to anything “dark” - acceptable for herself and her lunch partner for the afternoon, she strides to the counter and considers the menu. She notes several things that she knows would draw in anyone with a sweet tooth, including her companion, before deciding on her own lunch order - a caprese sandwich and an oolong tea - and time with the rescued felines for two people. Paying then sticking her change in the tip jar, she slides into a seat at a corner table, legs crossing automatically. She leans back and pulls out her latest novel to entertain herself in the meantime, keeping one eye on the door.

January 27, 2026 It was Scorpius's first time visiting the cat café that had opened in Horizont Alley towards the end of the summer. The idea was interesting to him—and he had heard that it was quite popular in the Muggle world—but that interest wasn't enough to get him through the doors of the establishment if not for his cousin Adelaide's decision to meet up with one another there. It was little bit different, though he didn't mind that. He couldn't say that he was a "cat person", exactly, but that was primarily because his parents kept peacocks. Something told him that the birds wouldn't take too well to being around cats… or vice versa.
He arrived at the time that he and his cousin had agreed upon for lunch, surprised to see that the cats at the café weren't just roaming around everywhere when he opened the door and stepped inside. The place was relatively small (but without being cramped), so it didn't take him long to find Adelaide at a table in the corner. She was reading a book of some sort, he noticed as he approached her, and he hoped that he hadn't kept her waiting.
"Hey. Sorry," he greeted his cousin, nodding to her to make it known that he had shown up. He didn't think that he had been running late or anything, though maybe time had gotten away from him after all.

[attr="class","nuggetwords"]Adelaide flicks her gaze upwards whenever the door sounds, pulling herself out of her novel long enough to ascertain who enters. It is why when her lunch companion - her maternal cousin Scorpius - sets foot into the establishment, she notices him before he notices her.
As he looks around, she examines him briefly, shoulders relaxing infinitesimally at his seemingly good health. She trusts he’ll find her soon enough and instead swiftly finishes off the last sentences of the current chapter since it’s impolite to read and hold a conversation at once. She hears his greeting as she reads the last word, looking up in time to catch his nod.
“I have no need for your apology,” she not-quite snaps, closing her book in emphasis and dismissing him with a flick of her fingers and a pointed glance at the register to remind him to order his meal. Honestly. He should know better than to apologize when he’s done nothing wrong; he is not late, and even if he ever is, he should remember that her patience is greater than that.
She glances over the partition to the cat enclosure, wondering. She knows he is partial to peacocks with how his family raises them but is unsure his opinion on cats. At the very least, she decides, it can’t hurt, especially since she already bought entrance for them both. If it turns out that either he does not prefer cats or the cats do not prefer him, they can always return to the cafe section. With that, she tucks her novel back into her purse and waits.

January 27, 2026 Scorpius wasn't sure what had gotten into Adelaide as she snapped at him for giving her an apology, saying that she had no need for it. It was a Tuesday; he had work. He might not have been the Minister for Magic, but he did have to keep his schedule in mind. If he hadn't apologized, he wondered, would she have been critical of him for that, too?
It was no matter, and he knew not to think too much about that one comment. He was there and hadn't stood her up. Still, he just gave his cousin a quick nod as she directed him towards the counter from which he could order his meal. "Thanks," he noted, trying not to match the sharpness of Adelaide's tone.
After he had ordered for himself, he returned to Adelaide at the table. She had put away her book since, which gave him hope that they might be able to have an actual conversation with her. He pulled out a chair across from her, seating himself. "How have you been?" he asked.

[attr="class","nuggetwords"]Adelaide knows her cousin well enough to see the confusion and anxiety in reaction to her words but restrains herself from rolling her eyes at his inability to remember his worth. She always forgets how...sensitive he can be when he needs not. At least, she muses at the display of expressions in his eyes, he lets the words fall from his mind now, unlike some of their childhood days.
She nods at his short gratitude; it is as unnecessary as his apology, truthfully, but something that can pass off as polite rather than debasing and, thus, is acceptable for someone of his stature. Book tucked away, she unabashedly watches as he takes the seat across from her.
“Adequate,” she answers in response to his inquiry. She pauses a second before providing more information in an attempt to soften her curt tone. “The laboratory has been satisfactorily supplied to replenish the hospital’s store of potions. They have also provided extra star grass in response to my proposal to modify the process of brewing star grass salve. I should have a definite conclusion within a fortnight, if not earlier.”
She has high hopes for the star grass salve experiments; at the very least, she’ll be able to provide data on how temperature and time in boiling the herb to create the necessary infused oils will affect the quantity and quality of the salve. If there is an effect, she’ll be able to search for the most effective combination to provide greater quality and / or quantity of the potion, depending on severity of the wound, and regardless of possible effect, her report will be useful evidence of an exhaustively explored avenue for future potioneers.
“How have you fared?” she asks in turn, not quite smiling at her cousin but cheerful all the same.

January 27, 2026 "Adequate," came Adelaide's answer, though she didn't elaborate beyond that at first. "The laboratory has been satisfactorily supplied to replenish the hospital’s store of potions. They have also provided extra star grass in response to my proposal to modify the process of brewing star grass salve. I should have a definite conclusion within a fortnight, if not earlier."
Scorpius nodded his head. He hadn't realized that there were supply issues over at St. Mungo's, but the other person closest to him who worked there was Dusti, who worked in phlebotomy. Given as many potions as needed to be brewed and distributed to patients, he thought, it was kind of amazing that they didn't run into problems with shortages of ingredients more often. Of course, that was also something that he thought Muggle technology made magical could help with, and the hospital—like the Ministry—had begun to implement it. While it wasn't exactly his job to decide how St. Mungo's (or anywhere else) put that technology to use once it was approved, Scorpius had a feeling that making continued improvements on that front would only be beneficial.
"How have you fared?"
"I've been busy," Scorpius answered, though he hadn't been running-out-of-supplies-at-the-hospital busy. "It could be worse," he acknowledged, "but it's mostly just bureaucracy." With his line of work, there was always something else that needed to be done. He didn't mind it; it was necessary in the name of progress, but it was occasionally tiring. "Some of the officials assume that we can get loads more done than we can," he shrugged. It was a lot of back and forth and really just assorted nonsense half the time, but it wasn't anything terrible enough to drive him to quit. "I'm sure St. Mungo's is the same."
