every now and then, the stars align boy and girl meet by the great design Vasilia seemed to catch on that the island would be one of those topics for him very quickly. Maybe it was all the conversations on top of her natural empathy and ability with people. Maybe he would also have to admit that he was also as predictable as people said he was. The concern was evident in her expression as she looked at him. Rhys tried to hide his discomfort, but it was already too late. ”Yea—yes, I’m fine.” He wasn’t sure how convincing that was, but he would push back if she pressed. It wasn’t the time or place, especially when he was supposed to be helping her not work so hard.
For Rhys, the trouble had been his fear and anxiety that accompanied whatever came with being more than friends. He thought about Deva and what heartache might have been saved for both if they’d stayed as such. But her demand for something greater had clashed with what he was capable of giving. The way he had been feeling the past couple of weeks had him thinking more than usual. After that entire experience and his attempts at dating later on, he’d given up on that prospect. Which is why when his visit to the Seer had shown a future with children, he’d been shocked, and then Maria brought him news that this was to be true. Deep down inside it sparked hope that maybe it wasn’t a pipe dream for him, the things he had craved his entire life, but he was also afraid to nurture that hope. Vasilia made him feel something he hadn’t in a very long time, but also, he wasn’t sure if his feelings for Deva had ever been the same as the weight he currently carried.
It was clear that Vas wasn’t used to allowing anyone to help her, or maybe there just never had been anyone that tried. Rhys tended to do the same, but only because he’d learned that independent resilience early on. His ambition was solely driven but his lack of a dependency on anyone but himself. When it came to others in his life, he was there to lend a hand if one of his sisters or best friends needed it, or apparently, when the bartender of the Violet Hound made it sound like Vas needed emergent help with something—he didn’t hesitate. So now they stood in each other’s space, Rhys could feel his heart hammering in his chest, and his throat was annoyingly dry. She looked at him with those same friendly eyes that somehow let him be calm and all of his friends’ words went through his mind. Was there something to this? Vas wasn’t like any girl he’d ever met before. She made his heart beat like nobody else did.
Rhys grinned, but the simple and content grin reserved for those close to him—not anything the public would ever see from him. As Rhys reached up to remove more dust from her hair, she spoke, and he almost paused. Had he heard her correctly? But he continued grabbing the dust bunny and tossing it aside, but he didn’t quite move his hand back yet. ’Things I can’t have?’ ‘Brother’s friends.’ Rhys felt himself start to freeze as the large cellar seemed to shrink around them. They were standing so close as if the space was that small, but he wasn’t thinking about the boxes around them or the dust or even that there were employees just a few steps away up the staircase, probably wondering what they were up to. His anxiety and fear were battling his feelings, but Rhys also knew it was up to him in the end. If he didn’t say something, he would never know, and that regret would turn into anger for the rest of his life. Although the thought of rejection was a very painful one.
Looking at her, his eyes acknowledged that he had heard her. Rhys’ hand moved slowly down as his fingertips lightly grazed her cheek until they stopped near her chin. ”Vas I—“ Rhys swallowed. It was a bit difficult now as his instincts were trying to force him to shut down. ”No, it wasn’t.” He paused a moment, eyes not moving as he pushed up on her chin a bit so his eyes could meet hers again. ”But it was for my friend’s sister.” Rhys spoke low, but enough so she could hear him. But, really, he waited for what would inevitably be reality. She was just a nice and friendly girl that had taken pity on a sullen and sulking werewolf at the bar. Letting him vent his thoughts, making him smile, and making him fall in love with her. It had been a long time since someone had snuck in like that.

Vasilia was good at reading people, but she was especially good at reading people she knew well. And she had definitely come to know Rhys well. So she kept that concern looked for a moment, with a hint of more scrutiny that silently said she knew he clearly wasn't, before her expression relaxed. She didn't push the matter, she wasn't the sort to drag out answers people weren't ready to share. If it was something that bothered him enough she assumed he would eventually tell her.
Despite the fast beating of her heart the current situation was almost... comfortable. Casual. Rhys picking dust out of her hair as if she were a child that had come scurrying in after a day of adventure. But then he started to realize what her words had meant, and he froze. She met his gaze for the briefest of moments after speaking, before quickly, very quickly looking away, her blush slightly more prominent. He didn't respond though, just stood there, processing what she'd said. After a moment she looked back at him tentatively, and she knew he understood what she'd meant. The recognition was there, and she knew the rejection would soon come. She shouldn't have said anything. She'd tried to keep it to herself since she realized, because... well, why would Rhys ever want her? He had his choice of women. Women a lot better than Vasilia. He didn't have to settle for someone like her. She prepared herself to move, to quickly mutter an apology and scurry back up the stairs before he could answer, but when she felt his fingertips brush her cheek she froze, her entire body locking in place and her eyes gluing to his own. He said her name, then stopped.
This was where he rejected her. Where he'd tell her that he didn't feel the same and that she was his friend's kid sister. He'd never see her that way. This was where he would say something like "You're a good kid, but just not my type.". She was prepared for it. Sort of. As prepared as anyone would be when knowing the person they liked would inevitably reject them.
And yet, a rejection didn't follow.
Vasilia barely felt his hand under her chin, but she she found her head moving just a bit, turning up towards him. Her eyes were wide as he spoke. She knew what he meant. "But I'm not your type," she blurted out. As if to remind him that he should be rejecting her right now, not admitting he had the same feelings.

every now and then, the stars align boy and girl meet by the great design Rhys hadn’t planned on coming to the pub today, he hadn’t planned on seeing Vasilia that day, and he certainly hadn’t planned on admitting what he just had. Something told him that she hadn’t had these plans at all either. There was still disbelief on Rhys’ mind. Had she really just said that? She had feelings for him? But why? It was well documented that Rhys wasn’t interested in commitment. At least that is what it appeared to others, and more people than he could count knew about him and Deva’s history, considering it had lasted almost a decade. And don’t forget Rhys’ general unapproachability. His luck with women really stemmed from his appearance. He knew that. Buy them a drink, flash that mischievous grin, and he was on his way. Vasilia had to know all that, and especially being Ilija’s sister, what did she see in such a miserable figure who preferred the company of a bottle of whiskey most nights?
She responded quickly, without missing a beat, and Rhys blinked a few times. ”My type?” He instinctively answered, but of course, the answer to that question came as soon as he’d asked the question. His type. Oh, right. Rhys lowered his hand and tried not to think of that response as a rejection. He’d never categorize Vasilia as one of the women he might pick up in a bar or call on occasion where there was that lack of a substantial relationship, but both parties understood that. ”I—“ He struggled to find his words, instinctively taking a step back as his brow furrowed in thought. Rhys wish he hadn’t, but with elevated heart rate and jitters, he couldn’t breathe that close to her.
He cleared his throat again. ”I know what people say about me.” It would be stupid to not acknowledge how he chose to live his life. He sought temporary comfort rather than anything permanent, although it had been all well and good until Maria had gotten pregnant—which had been entirely unplanned. He paused again. As much as Rhys wanted to run away from a situation that felt far beyond his control, he knew that it would be cruel to do that to Vas. So, in that case, how did he explain it all? ”And my friends aren’t shy to tell me what they think.” That part was incredibly true. They spoke if only to make sure Rhys didn’t forget what he was.
”Vas—Vasilia…I’ve never met anyone like you.” Rhys moved forward a bit, his instinct was the cross his arms, but he forced himself not to. ”You’re kind and caring. Stubborn, but you mean well.” Rhys paused to make sure he was still breathing. Nobody told him it would be so terrifying to expose oneself like this—even if it was for a second. ”I feel calm when I’m with you.” Rhys’ gaze looked down as if to prepare for the other shoe to drop. Maybe Vas liked him, but in that ‘your older brother’s friend’ which amounted to a small crush while Rhys felt way in over his head with his feelings at the moment. Either way, he knew their friendship would never be the same.

Vasilia felt like an idiot for speaking up like that. She usually was very good at social queues, and knowing what to say. She didn't just "blurt" things out like that without thinking. But yet she had. She couldn't help but try and remind him that he shouldn't want someone like her. He took a step back and there was an aching in her heart, but it was a little easier to breath. He didn't seem to understand her at first, repeating what she'd said. But after a moment he started to speak. He stopped breathing, listening intently as he tried to explain. Oh. That wasn't what she'd meant.
Vas opened her mouth to respond, correct what he was saying, but his speaking stopped her. She let him get it out. That he knew what peopel said about him, but then about his friends. That's when her voice returned to her. "That's not what I meant!" She tried to explain, a slight hint of desperation that he'd stop speaking like that in her voice. She looked away, her cheeks still rosy. "I mean... I mean I'm not... There's better girls out there. Girls that have a lot more to offer..." Witches. She meant witches. Magic. Something she was very obviously lacking. She wasn't the sort to ever mention her being a squib as a negative. She didn't complain about it. But why would he want to be with a squib?
Vasilia looked back when he spoke, watching him take a step forward again. He was speaking, about her, and it made her feel a little self conscious. She didn't feel like those things made her special or different. She bit her lip softly, but didn't look away. When he finished speaking he looked away, and she felt like she had to do something. Make some sort of move. So... she took a step closer herself. Just as close as they'd been before he stepped away. She should say something, maybe return the pretty words about what it was about him that he liked. But words failed her. So... she reached out tentatively and put her arms around his shoulders. He wasn't a hugger, she knew that. But he hadn't pushed her away at New Years.

every now and then, the stars align boy and girl meet by the great design Rhys wasn’t sure what Vasilia meant by he had a “type” and he furrowed his brow a bit of confusion. What did it matter? Maybe it a small amount of frustration, but the more she pushed back, the more he was sure of what he felt. But, he wasn’t just being stubborn—he hoped not as it wasn’t the time to dig one’s feet in about something if it wasn’t needed. But as she kept talking, Rhys could only blink at her—better girls? But better how? ”What do you mean?” Rhys got the sense that she had the same feelings for him but doubted herself more than she doubted him. That was a first. Typically he was in the wrong somehow—and usually rightfully so. Rhys didn’t care about the girls out there. He was interested in the one in front of him. Hadn’t he made that clear?
The thought did cross his mind that maybe this was her way of getting out of this situation. Rhys had essentially admitted to a lot, and she was insistent. There was a slight sinking feeling, one that wasn’t uncommon, but it stung more than he’d like to admit. ”I mean—as I said…I know what people say about me. I wouldn’t be good for you.” ’Or anyone.’ He thought. Hadn’t that been made clear with his past failures? As he looked away and wondered what happened next, he looked up when he felt her hands on his shoulders. Rhys recognized the motion, and just as she had on New Year’s Eve, she hugged him. While previously being too close to her had made it hard to concentrate, now it was comforting—especially because she wasn’t pushing him away.
Rhys closed the gap, hugging her back and definitely not as awkwardly as he’d been that last time. But, what did he say now? The thoughts were all in his head, jumbled together but clear at the same time. His trouble had always been translating them into spoken words despite knowing what he wanted to say. He hadn’t realized how nervous and tense he had been until she hugged him, and while it helped, everything still felt up in the air. However, as much as Rhys wouldn’t have minded staying just like that, his anxiety was getting the best of him, and he pulled away slightly. There wasn’t much space in between them but enough where Rhys could see her face. They had never talked about anything like this before, and he certainly never did on purpose, but now he needed to know—but he also reminded himself that he wasn’t picking up a girl in a bar.
”Vas…I know how I feel, and if you don’t...I just need you to tell me.” He was pleading with her a bit with his eyes, but he also didn’t need her pity. She’d done a good job this far, never making him feel like she was pitying him—but he didn’t like operating in ambiguity. It was the part he hated and what typically led him down the path of avoidance or the path of least resistance instead. However, when it came to Vasilia, something inside of him had given him the strength to push forward to this moment.

Vasilia didn't want to say it out loud. To state the very obvious reason of why he shouldn't want to be with her. Why he should be scoffing off her feelings, despite his already making clear he had similar feelings. But she knew if she didn't say it, it'd eat at her. She had to get it off her chest. She look away, nervously squeezing her hands for a moment. ".... Squib. I mean.... squib..." She breathed, her voice barely able to muster a whisper. Thankfully in the cool, dark, cellar, he'd hear her words despite how quiet they'd been. While her family had always been very accepting of her non magical ability, the rest of the magical world hadn't been so kind. Growing up she'd always been told that she'd never have a place in the magical world by cruel magical children. Unfortunately, the fact that so many squibs left the magical world only seemed to solidify the taunts. That no matter how hard she tried, she would always be an outcast to wizards. What wizard in his right mind would want to be with a squib?
She looked back, of course, when he mentioned his reputation again. Of course she knew his reputation. Moody, brooding, quick temper, womanizer. But he'd never acted hat way towards her. Her eyes widened a bit as he mentioned being no good for her. Perhaps... they were both self doubting here. "That's only because they don't know you. You...." she paused, trying to find the best words. As she spoke her next words the blushing was back. "They don't see you. But I do." It sounded a little... sappy. But it was the best way to put it. People didn't understand him. They couldn't see him the same way she did.
Vasilia was a little surprised he embraced her back, but it unleashed a flurry of butterflies in her stomach. Her heart beat several times too fast, but she couldn't help but smile a little, though he wouldn't see it. Though, it didn't last forever, and Rhys eventually pulled but a little. Not fully away, but enough that he could look at her. This close she could see those stormy eyes, and all sorts of emotions swirling behind them. Hearing his words just made the butterflies worse, and her heart skip several beats. He hadn't said it, but it was still clear to her what he was saying. What he was feeling. The same thing she was feeling. He wanted an answer though, was pleading for one, really. She took a moment, just staring into those eyes, and trying to come up with the right words. Only... There wasn't any words that seems right.
So, when words failed, what did you do?
Vasilia kissed Rhys.
It was very spur of the moment, not well thought out, but to hell with the consequences. If there was any doubt about her feelings, this would clear the air. And it absolutely scared Vas witless... Even though she was the one that kissed him! It was a very short kiss, as she was far to nervous going into. "That... That's how I feel."

every now and then, the stars align boy and girl meet by the great design Intimacy, affection. It wasn’t something Rhys had ever grown accustomed to, and people often confused the physical part of the relationship with such. But he’d fallen for a girl that had barely touched him, and yet Rhys just craved being close to her. The way she spoke that word squib with a type of pain that Rhys recognized all too well. It reminded him of the bullies that targeted him because he was a no-good son of Fenrir Greyback. He didn’t belong at Hogwarts. Rhys didn’t answer right away, mainly because her next words had caught him off guard though they made him feel hopeful. He believed that she saw him, although he didn’t have a clue what she was seeing. There was that outer face he showed the world, and that was what he had grown accustomed to seeing as well.
”I don’t care about that.” In Rhys’ eyes, that didn’t define who she was, and the fact of the matter was he had gone a few months without really noticing either. It just didn’t matter—magic didn’t make the person. Rhys seemed to be doing most of the talking in a rare turn of events, typically that wasn’t his style, but there were different ways of communicating things. Not that communication wasn’t Rhys’ strong suit at all, but he was trying. Still, he put his cards on the table—there wasn’t a point of doing anything without knowing where she stood. However, it didn’t take long, but there was a slight pause that felt like forever to Rhys. And then suddenly, that pause was over, and Vasilia kissed him, and Rhys didn’t hesitate in kissing her back.
She pulled away, speaking only to confirm what Rhys now knew. His heart was still racing but not out of nervousness anymore as it was met with a different feeling in his chest. Rhys grinned. He couldn’t help it. Choosing to enjoy the moment instead of speak Rhys leaned in and kissed her again. There was his usual energy. However, it wasn’t aggressive. Vas didn’t bring out that side of him, and it wasn’t trying to claw its way out either. Just as he had said earlier, she helped him be calm. Plus, he was still a bit surprised and shocked that she hadn’t rejected him like all his thoughts had told him she would. ”I’m glad.” He smiled again, though the creeping and nagging thought of Maria popped back in his mind, which made him tense again. Rhys was tempted to share that tidbit of important information as he was doing with his family and friends at the moment.
His grin faded a bit as he didn’t move but tried to string words together to say what he needed to say. What happened next was important, but even Rhys was cognizant of the effect such information could have on a relationship or even a budding one. ”Vas—there is one thing. There’s something I haven’t told you about.” Rhys swallowed, nervous even more than before. Was he about to ruin the happiest he had felt in Merlin knew how long? ”I’m not seeing anyone…but I was—last year and…” His heart felt like it had risen and gotten stuck in his throat. ”I’m—she’s…expecting.” Rhys almost held his breath as he averted his gaze, waiting for the inevitable moment where she pulled away from him.

Vasilia's eyes went a little wider. Sure, she'd never thought Rhys was the shallow type to care too much about blood status, or magical ability. But it was still something that had been lurking at the back of her mind. But he just rejected her concern, not caring about it at all. It made her heart feel warm when he spoke those words. He didn't care that she was a squib. There was a momentary pause in her demeanor, before her eyes finally returned to a normal size and she was smiling, a wave of relief washing away her previous fears and doubts.
Vasilia was definitely not a forward person in this regard. Kissing Rhys first was quite bold for her. He didn't push her away though, instead she felt him move against her to kiss her back. It was like a tight knot in her chest finally relaxed. Sure, he'd already made his feelings known but the act of kissing her back solidified it. These feelings... were mutual. They'd both been hiding their feelings for each other. It was a strange turn of events.
She was still a bit stunned with herself for kissing him first when he started to grin. Wide, broad. He didn't grin like that often. In fact, it was very rare, but she felt her own responding. The second time they kissed he initiated it, and she felt a bit more prepared. She immediately kissed him back, her arms still wrapped around his shoulders. It was much better the second time, and she felt a little breathless when he pulled back and spoke. She couldn't help but laugh softly. "I'm the one that should be saying that," she answered.
Though, then he tensed. She could see it in his expression and feel it in his shoulders from where her hands were. Her expression softened, eyebrows furrowing just a little. What had happened? Was this where, even though they're feelings were mutual, he told her he couldn't do anything about it? That he couldn't be with her? That knot in her chest started to reform.
"Oh," she couldn't help the immediate reaction to his words. The concern completely disappeared from her face. She didn't even look surprised, in the least. "Yeah, I know," she finished. It was quite the bombshell to drop on someone, but considering Vasilia's reaction on top of her words? She really had known. No one took information like that as calmly as she had and not known. She smiled, hoping it was reassuring. "You told me back in December," she admitted. Back when he'd gotten completely wasted. She'd always refused to tell him what he'd told her that night... Until he'd felt comfortable enough to tell her sober.

every now and then, the stars align boy and girl meet by the great design Considering Rhys’ reputation, it might have been expected that he would be the more forward one in this case. This was usually true. However, those situations weren’t complicated by turbulent and strong feelings such as what he felt now. If he took a step back mentally, he knew that it was a risk chasing after his best friend’s little sister. Rhys was an older brother himself, so he understood that perspective pretty well, and the last thing he would have wanted to do was jeopardize that relationship. But, his heart had other ideas, and naturally, he blamed Vas for being herself and making him fall for her. While there was that conflict inside of him and how to tell her about Maria and the usual doubt about pursuing something—she didn’t demand anything of him except just him. And that was the least that had ever been asked of him. It almost made everything seem…possible.
Rhys had chosen words over actions because he needed her to know that he wasn’t just trying to make a move for the sake of making one. It had been painfully pointed out to him that his frequenting of the Violet Hound had been all in front of her, so he knew that it might be in the forefront of her mind. There seemed to be relief for both of them, they both knew where they stood, and it was about the same place. However, Rhys continued with his very risky move of blurting out about Maria and the baby due over the summer. With his tension, his heart hammered hard in his chest. But Rhys looked confused. She wasn’t phased at all, which was not the reaction he expected. Rhys had expected her to pull away, question her choices and see that he had this complex life she couldn’t be a part of. He expected her to pull away, thinking that he wasn’t single or realize that she didn’t feel as strongly for him as he did her.
His confusion remained when she admitted that she knew, and he opened his mouth to speak but closed it again. December? ”December?” He asked, trying to think back through that incredibly long month. There was finding out about the pregnancy and then spending more time with Maria, spending time with his sisters and friends, and then the Christmas Party where he was blocked on every turn from talking to Deva. Wait. Deva. ”The fight.” Rhys thought out loud, that last fight between the two of there where he remembered admitting the pregnancy to her, and she’d shoved a bottle of whiskey in his face and left him for good. Then it was three or four days of hard drinking that were blurry in Rhys’ mind. ”When I blacked out.” The exact date was naturally a mystery to him, but she’d known this entire time and yet was still here in front of him and in his arms. Rhys pulled away but not because he was pushing Vas away. If anything, the surprise, and wave of relief that hit him that she already knew almost made him feel tired. Carrying the weight of hiding the fact that someone was three months pregnant with your child was heavier than he thought. ”And you’re….okay with that?” Rhys sat on one of the larger unopened crates. Emotions were exhausting. But he just had to ask and hear her say it because it still flabbergasted him that she was standing here despite knowing this.

Rhys seemed very confused, and that confusion only seemed to increase the longer he thought. Basilica didn’t blame him, of course. He didn’t remember the night at all and she’d refused to fill him in until he was willing to tell him those personal dilemmas when he was sober. It hadnt been her place to air out his secrets and he’d been very vulnerable. She didn’t want him to be embarrassed when he found out what he’d told her. Sometimes you just needed to wait till someone was ready to share something, even if you already knew.
Finally though the pieces seemed to fall into place and he realized. He mentioned “the fight” and she couldn’t help the very sheepish smile. She knew what fight he was referring to. ”You had a really rough December,” she responded. She wasn’t flat out saying he’d told her about it but it would be hard to miss the understanding in her voice. Yeah. She definitely knew.
Rhys pulled away, and for a moment she thought he was upset that she knew already. But when he sat down she realized that he was simply stunned and surprised. She moved one of the other boxes over and sat down on it next to him. He asked his question, his emotions easy to read. ”what’s there to not be okay with?” she asked with a smile. A lot of people had kids with people they weren’t with, after all. In her mind it wasn’t really an issue at all.

every now and then, the stars align boy and girl meet by the great design ’You had a really rough December.’ Rhys couldn’t have agreed more. At least from what he could remember, anyway. At least he’d managed to stay sober on occasions such as some holiday time spent with Max and Juliet or wrapping presents with Sienna or helping Vas with the cookies and frosting combinations. The rest had been spent hungover or drinking. ”Yea…” He muttered. It wasn’t that Rhys couldn’t handle stress. After all, he was a Curse Breaker, which required a heightened sense of one’s surroundings and vigilance in high-stress situations. That was easy to handle, but the things on his plate for more complex than his work.
When Rhys sat down, Vas accompanied him by scooting a box next to his. It was still a dusty mess in the cellar, and he had no idea how long they had been down here either. The fact that nobody had come down to check on them was surprising as well. The staff really seemed to care about the well-being of their boss. He felt at a loss for words again. She was totally fine with the fact that he had this other obligation in his life—he was to be a father, and that wasn’t a commitment he was trying to get out of at this point. ”Its just my life is a bit complicated.” Rhys let out a sigh as if some of that weight was now gone, and he could breathe better. ”I suppose you won’t tell me what else I told you that night?” Rhys looked at her, she’d probably say no, but he figured he would ask in case there was anything else they should probably talk about.
But then the next question entered his mind. What now? Rhys turned where he sat to face Vas. ”I guess I was worried…not many people would want to deal with someone else’s kid.” Rhys explained honestly. It wasn’t an entirely unselfish thing, but also he remembered watching the other kids growing up go off with their families when he was left behind. For a while, it was that he was a werewolf who wanted to deal with that, but then it came out who his father was, and then that seemed to seal his fate.

The cellar seemed like an especially odd place for these conversations. But yet here they were. Rhys was right to think it odd the staff hadn’t come to check on them. Though that wasn’t entirely true. One of them had come to check, though when they heard Rhys and Vasilia’s voices they’d been assured everything was fine and close the door to the cellar again. But in honesty? It was probably the only place they would have had such a conversation. In total privacy, away from the staff or patrons. No prying eyes.
Rhys mentioned his life being complicated, and asked about that night again. Vasilia laughed, pulling her legs up onto the crate and sitting indian style. ”Nope. I sort of like how surprised you were, so it’s be fun to see it again.” she teased with a brilliant grin. Though that grin softened to a smile after a moment. ”Don’t worry. You didn’t say anything that would scare me off.”
Vasilia cocked her head a little to the side. She supposed he had a point. Some people didn’t really like dealing with kids that weren’t their own. Though, it wasn’t that strange to her in all honesty. While it seemed pretty rare at Hogwarts for teen pregnancies, Vas had known several classmates in her muggle schools that got pregnant but didn’t stay with the father. ”Those people wouldn’t be worth keeping around if they were that shallow,” she answered bluntly with a shrug. ”Its not the dark ages any more. A lot of people have kids with someone they aren’t with.” she paused, and smiled warmly. ”Plus, I’m pretty sure your kid will be adorable.” he was very good looking, after all. She didn’t know who the mother was, but with Rhys as the dad there was no doubt it would be a very cute child.

every now and then, the stars align boy and girl meet by the great design The more Rhys thought about it, the more he realized that his conversation would have been inevitable. Whether they both had the same feelings or it was entirely unrequited on either side—it would have come up somehow. These things had a way of doing that sometimes. However, he never would have pictured it happen in the cellar, but he wasn’t complaining. Overall, Rhys felt a bit more relaxed. There was tension still in his shoulders but less now that this was off his chest and knowing she wouldn’t run away from him and his Maria situation. She seemed perfectly amused at his response overall, however, about those missing days and what he had revealed. It made him cringe a little. It wasn’t often he blacked out. ”So I said more?” He wondered, looking at her again—maybe she would take some pity on him.
Her words reinforced what she had said, that it didn’t matter. Again there was a bit of relief though as well as a warm feeling in his chest. Maybe just as she had been worried about being a squib, he was worried about these things. But it truly didn’t matter to him. He just wanted her. There was a momentary feeling of guilt as he thought about Deva, and he wondered what he would see if he looked at himself through her eyes. Was it something that was really that simple to be happy? He smiled lightly and nodded his head gently, he knew one of his kids one day would have his eyes, and that was as far as he knew about what they might inherit from him. Rhys’ brothers were tall—as was he. So maybe his child would be as well? ”Maybe if they take after their mother.” He said a bit jokingly with a shrug. Maria was beautiful, of course. But as Rhys looked up at Vasilia, who was smiling and looking at him with those warm eyes, he noted she was beautiful as well. She was sitting with her legs crossed upon her box, but Rhys was close enough to reach for her hand and hold it in his own. He’d always had large hands, maybe it was genetics or from being a werewolf—it hadn’t been anything he thought about seriously until he held her smaller one in his own.

To be honest, he really hadn't said anything else that was worth mentioning down the road. He'd just been having a rough month with women, it seemed. Something that, looking at now? She was actually a little glad about. Not that he'd had the trouble, but because one of the things he'd mentioned was it being done with the girl that he'd been going back to time and again. Because heaven forbid, she would never want to break up someone's relationship! At his words she just smiled mischievously and shrugged. "Who knows," was her answer.
Vasilia would admit, she was curious about the mother of his child. She had seen him with a few women at the pub (a thought she tried to ignore). Was it one of them? No, he made it sound like it wasn't just a recent fling. But at the same time, she also knew that she was okay with not knowing. If Rhys didn't want to tell her. Though he might answer if she asked. He was always pretty willing to talk if she asked him something. But right now, after their realization, it felt like just poor timing to dwell on that too much. He joked about them taking after their mother and she chuckles, shaking her head. "Or you," she reaffirmed. She didn't feel like she was a superficial person when it came to looks, but she would be blind to not realize how good looking Rhys was. She'd noticed the moment she met him. Which also partially made her feel very unworthy of his attention.
While they stayed where they sat, Rhys' hand crossed the small distance between them, taking her head. Her heart beat a little faster at the small gesture. She'd "held" his hand once before. When she'd gotten drunk and he'd joined her, but that had been a very different situation. She glanced down at their now enclosed hands, a hint of rose touching her cheeks again. Jezz, why was she blushing so much. She looked back up at him. His eyes had settled into a calm and clear blue. "I have something to share to," she started, sounding very serious, like he had when he told her about expecting a child. She paused, for dramatic affect, before a smile started to form. "Just because we like each other doesn't mean I'm giving you any discounts on whiskey."

every now and then, the stars align boy and girl meet by the great design She didn’t quite answer his question, and Rhys looked at her suspiciously, rummaging through his mind on what he else he could have rambled about considering the information he knew he had given her that night. And had it been anyone else, he would have been a lot more persistent in getting an answer, but he figured he would just wait another time to ask. Still, the suspicion didn’t leave his face. ”You’re lucky I like you.” He responded, his expression softening and a slight smirk forming. While he was not the joking type by nature, that side of him did come out around certain people, much like it had around Ilija at the Christmas Party in an attempt to torment Renfri for dragging them there in the first place. And it was always fun to see the trainee Cursebreaker’s perplexed expressions when Rhys acted anything but his grumpy self.
Rhys wasn’t known for being excellent at planning or thinking that far ahead, much like this hadn’t been thought all the way through. What did he tell Maria? What did he say to his friends? His sisters? Maybe it was a problem for tomorrow, but he knew despite the closeness reforming between himself and Maria, she was still wary of him. Rhys needed to reaffirm his commitment to be a father when bringing this up. He looked at Vas when she responded the child could resemble him—if only she knew, the woman he had seen back in November had told him his children would have blue eyes. His and Fenrir’s blue eyes, which still made him feel uneasy. For now, he didn’t respond and just smiled slightly in response. That experience he hadn’t shared with anyone, though for all he knew, he might have while drinking, and she wasn’t telling him.
There was a moment of quiet as he focused on how her hand fit in his when she spoke, and Rhys listened intently. Her tone was serious, and he wondered what kind of information she needed to tell him with that tone. But, he didn’t say anything trying to be as patient as he was capable of being, especially when she was so patient with him. And then Vas spoke again, and he gave her a look before chuckling a little bit and shaking his head. ”Fair enough.” He nodded in agreement, though perhaps he could wear her down. Flirting with the female bartender worked at other pubs at times, but he wouldn’t reveal that card to her just yet. ”What about cookies with whiskey frosting?” Rhys inquired, thinking about the ones she had baked for him last month, maybe it fell under the same umbrella, but it didn’t hurt to ask. After a moment, Rhys took a breath and let it out, he actually felt relatively calm, but he could have also been tired—he knew Vas was. ”Well, I can walk you home so you can rest.” Rhys offered. Despite the warmness in her eyes, there was also that exhaustion there. ”I can come by tomorrow.” He added, maybe it would force her to take an additional day off, but also he did want to see her. Plus, a lot had been said today, but there was probably more that needed to be discussed.
