14 July 2020
The heady mid summer air lay thick upon the French Riviera, where Rob Oppedyk had set up for the summer. He'd missed Beauxbatons something dreadful, especially with Gus and Sienna still in school until this year. Rob had spent the intervening years since graduating travelling across the continent, ensuring that his potion making services were needed and always keeping a full supply of wolfsbane in his bag. It had been a pleasant, if not lonely life. Rob drifted from place to place, rarely spending a night alone, but never with the same woman. By day, he concocted potions, and by night he imbibed the creations of others.
Rob had learned of Sienna and Gus's breakup through the grapevine - which he thought was quite rude, considering how close they'd been in school, despite the age gap. They'd accepted him without question, even when he'd been bitten a few years back. They hadn't hated him for the singular focus he'd pinpointed on finding a cure for his affliction. Sienna and Rob had bonded over their mutual love of potions, and Gus... well he was hard to hate as it was. It was occasionally awkward when his friend got a bit flirty, but Rob often wrote that off as a gag. Besides, Gus hadn't been the one in their relationship that Rob considered to be the loveliest masterpiece that graced this Earth.
Though Sienna was Halo's friend, and Gus' (now ex) girlfriend, Rob couldn't deny the sense that there was some attraction between them. That maybe in another life, they could have been lovers. Instead, he'd contented himself with just being her friend, which was well and good enough. Rob needed more friends in his life, and the ache he felt in his chest when he considered the lonely life he'd carved out for himself had nothing to do with her. It was more a pull towards fulfilling his life, but even now, Rob was lost.
Figuring Sienna needed a friend more than Gus, Rob invited her round to his seaside cottage that he'd rented for the summer for his potion brewing. He'd gotten a nice sum of money from a client in the spring, which allowed him this luxury. Rob thought he and Sienna could chat and just... forget about things for the night. Forget that Gus was likely drowning his sorrows in a slew of other men, women, and drinks. They could do what they loved best, and make a good night of it. Now all Sienna had to do was turn up.

14 July 2020 Sienna felt…empty. Like she had spent most of the summer crying until she had reached a point of not having anything left to give anymore. She’d gone to Brussels immediately after graduation, needing the comfort of home and her father, and doing all the things that felt familiar to her. Trips to the dance studio, late-night movie sessions with her grandfather, everything that had once been an indispensable part of her life before getting that letter to Beauxbatons. She needed the reminder that she’d once had a life, a full life, before meeting Gus, because it was hard to imagine moving forward without him. They’d become best friends long before they started dating, and that had defined most of her school years. And now, after their breakup…it didn’t feel like she had any future that would be worth exploring without him. The breakup had been necessary, she knew that. Gus had been in a terrible mental space after everything that had happened with his mother and his aunt, and he needed to focus on learning how to take care of himself before he could extend that thinking to someone else. But it also hurt to think that he was off indulging himself in other people while Si was spending her time processing the breakup alone at home. So she’d been deeply grateful for Rob’s invitation to join him for a while at his home for the summer. Sienna hadn’t reached out to him after the breakup for several reasons…part of her just hadn’t been ready to start telling people, but she also couldn’t deny the guilt that gnawed at her whenever she thought about Rob. He had been an incredible amount of fun to be around at school – sweet and kind, occasionally outrageous, and deeply passionate about potions in a way few people understood. Sienna could lose herself for hours in conversations with him over a cauldron, and she couldn’t deny she had fancied him for a while before she’d started dating Gus. Who wouldn’t have those kinds of thoughts about their friend’s attractive and thoughtful older brother? So the thought of reaching out to him almost felt disloyal to Gus, even if that wasn’t a consideration anymore – but he had contacted her first, and Sienna desperately needed a friend right now. Especially because she had already made the decision to move to London, making arrangements for the end of the summer, and moving far away from everything she knew was a paralyzing thought. And she knew Rob would listen, and he would be able to understand in a way most people didn’t. Sienna turned that thought over in her mind as the Portkey left her just outside his cottage. She knocked and stared at the wooden door, trying not to curl into herself. Si knew her eyes were probably still red from her last crying session, and her arms curled protectively around her potionmaking kit. Merlin, she wanted to see Rob desperately. EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK

The distant sounds of celebrations drifted through the mid summer air, with French denizens all celebrating Bastille Day. Rob had flung open a window of the cottage, listening to the whoops and cheers and singing, a distracted smile on his face. He thought not of the muggles who were likely dancing in the streets and getting drunk on fine wine, but instead of Sienna, who would soon join him here.
They'd had a lovely time at school, bonding over their mutual love for potions. She had quickly become a friend of Rob's even as quickly as Gus. They simply worked well together, despite an age difference of three years. Regardless, Rob cared about both Sienna and Gus, though he thought Sienna might have needed the comfort of a friend more so than Gus did. Which brought him to this very moment, as he stared out the back window, listening to the sounds of celebration.
A knock reverberated around the house, and Rob jolted from his reverie. He padded to the front door and flung it open, beaming at Sienna's small form framed within the doorway. "Si," he breathed, before he enveloped her into a hug. Though she looked somewhat worse for wear, Rob hadn't seen anyone so beautiful. Her blue eyes shone brightly despite the fact that they were rimmed with red, and she clung to her potions kit like it was a lifeline. Stepping back, Rob showed Sienna into the cottage.
He'd moved his collapsible cauldron to the back patio, where the view of the sea was unmatched. The waves crashed softly onto the sand, a lullaby of the coastal sort. "I would ask how you're feeling but... well... d'you fancy a drink?" asked Rob, rubbing the back of his neck nervously as he glanced back, finding those piercing blue eyes fixed on him. He gave her a sheepish grin, feeling the heat creep up his face. Potions. They were just going to make some potions to sell.

As drained as she felt, Sienna couldn’t help but smile as the door opened to reveal Rob on the other side. She had missed seeing him around school after his graduation, with them instead having to resort to enjoying snatches of moments together during breaks – so she soaked in the familiar sight of his tousled hair and dimpled smile. Si gave a small watery laugh as he pulled her into a hug, and she loosened her grip on her potionmaking kit so she could hug him tightly and bury her face into his shoulder. “Hi,” she whispered, preferring to absorb the moment rather than focus on small talk. He emanated warmth and she could smell traces of pine among the salty sea breeze. Beyond everything else, the contrast of being held after so much time alone was comforting, and Si told herself that was the only reason she lingered before pulling away to follow him in. He’d really chosen an amazing spot, and Sienna cast an appreciative glance at the sight of the beach beyond the cottage. It was the type of place where you could forget about the real world for a while, cast off your worries and simply…be. That would be a refreshing change of pace, after everything – Sienna had the terrible habit of getting caught up in her own head, replaying what had happened again and again and considering what might have been or what she could have done different. She was torturing herself with those memories, and it wasn’t difficult to see that she couldn’t go on much longer doing that to herself. As beautiful as the view was, Si found her gaze gravitating back towards Rob. He looked picturesque, admiring the sea with the sun outlining his form. Their eyes connected as he turned back to face her, and Sienna felt her heart pound and a bolt of lightning shoot straight through her at his smile. The moment was almost too intense as they gazed at each other, so Sienna forced herself to laugh slightly and look away. “Is that code for telling me how terrible I look?” she asked smoothly, setting her kit down on the nearest surface as she took a deep breath. Si usually put a great deal of effort into her appearance, and the thought of leaving the house without a full face of makeup was usually nauseating – but lately she couldn’t be bothered to find the strength or motivation to try. She sighed slightly at the thought, twirling a lock of hair around her finger as she finally glanced up again. “How about the whole bottle?” she suggested instead, feeling the smile slide off her face as a wave of emotion passed through her. Push it down, she reminded herself, you’re not here for that. She needed to take her mind off Gus, not dwell on the subject forever. And there was no better distraction than what could be found at the bottom of a cauldron. EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK

Rob stifled the strange swooping sensation in his belly as he embraced Sienna, taking in her haggard appearance and watery smile. She looked like she’d lost weight, like perhaps she had even lost meaning in her life. Rob hated to see that, and was desperate to bring at least a little bit of light back to her life. Even if the light was a fire underneath a bubbling cauldron. If he knew Sienna, which he thought he did, this would be one of the best things for her. They said nothing for a long moment, simply holding one another. They parted, and Rob allowed Sienna into the cottage, pointing out various bits as he did so. He’d set up the cauldron out back, with only the mesmerising pattern of the waves to keep them company. The cottage had been an excellent place to set up camp, to brew and test his potions, to exist while the world around him turned.
Offering Sienna a grin, Rob reminded himself again that they were only here to brew potions. ”Are we gonna get experimental tonight?” he asked playfully, glancing back at Sienna as he set up his potion kit beside the cauldron. ”You look lovely. You know you always do… just a bit. Sad.” He blinked, and shrugged, his cheeks heating as he realised just how much he was giving her. She commented that she would prefer the whole bottle, and Rob chuckled. ”Rough one. Yeah, thank Merlin for a good refilling charm, right?” said Rob as he collected a bottle of wine and two glasses, pouring large measures into each. He didn’t have anything to mourn, though he knew that Sienna was feeling rubbish. He raised a glass to her, struck by just how blue her eyes were. ”To your good health, and beauty that comes through pain,” said Rob, before knocking back the better part of his drink.
Sienna’s face fell as she clearly was overtaken by memories with Gus. Rob frowned, then reached out, brushing a lock of brown hair from her face. ”We can talk about it if you like,” he said softly, his fingers lingering before he dropped his hand to his side. ”Or we can not talk Tonight, I’m all yours,” said Rob, busying himself with topping up their glasses rather than how natural it had been for him to want to see Sienna’s full, lovely face.

Sienna laughed again at Rob’s playful comments, shooting him a grateful look as she moved to stand beside him and start the familiar motions of setting up her potion kit. He was clearly trying hard to keep the mood light and the atmosphere was familiar – how many times had they bantered with each other while jostling for the best spot on the table to place a mortar and minimize the distance from bowl to cauldron? “Depends if you can keep up with me. You’ve always been a little slow on the uptake, mon chéri,” Sienna shot back teasingly as her smile curved into a smirk. Her eyes lingered on Rob as he bent over his kit. He moved with the dynamic motion of an expert, removing his tools and setting them up with ease. In the past, he had always been the one to teach her – anything from a new technique for crushing herbs to learning how to hold her firewhisky. But who knew, maybe it was her turn to teach him something new…? Her cheeks reddened at his compliment, even if the following observation was sobering but true. It was hard to comment on something so heavy, especially because the last thing Sienna wanted to do was say Gus’s name out-loud, so instead she set it aside and allowed herself a flicker of pleasure at the thought that Rob noticed how she looked. She gave a mock hum of contemplation as she tilted her head playfully at Rob. “Do I know that? I might need to hear a little more first,” she suggested innocently, although they sported matching red faces after the little exchange. Si accepted a glass of wine from Rob, and well – in normal circumstances, she might have paced herself a little better, but she wasn’t in the right mindset to care about that tonight. Instead she knocked back the glass, desperately seeking to take the edge off and forget about being responsible for a night. The first drink emboldened her enough that after Rob’s toast, she could bring a hand up to his shoulder and settle it lightly on where she knew his scar must be. “Your words, not mine,” Si said, her tone dropping in volume as her fingers lightly traced over the soft material of his shirt before pulling back. Her eyes searched his face, daring him to try calling himself a monster again – Sienna hated that he thought of himself like that, although he’d never accepted her arguments in the past. Their close proximity was overwhelming – Si could feel the warmth emanating from his body as his fingers brushed her hair back. She almost stopped breathing, and had to bite her lip to stop a protest as he dropped his hand and stepped away. She couldn’t deny how much she wanted to stay close to him, but no – better to resist that kind of dangerous impulse. She took a long swallow of her second glass, trying to will away the heat from her face. “No,” she said suddenly as Rob suggested they could talk about ‘it.’ The unspoken subject lingered heavily in the room, but no, Sienna didn’t want to go anywhere near it. For at least one night, she wanted it far, far away from her. “I don’t want to talk,” she said softly, eyes connecting with Rob’s again. “I want…” she trailed off as she took in the sight of him and felt her heart skip a beat. She knew what she wanted, but didn’t have the courage to admit it. So instead she finished lamely with her voice almost at a whisper, “…I want to brew a potion.” EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK

Rob chuckled at Si's innocent chide, shaking his head. Of course, she had to know. She was the most beautiful woman he'd ever come across in his life. With her piercing blue eyes, full lips, and ready mind, Rob's attentions had been captured by her from the moment they met. Yet she was his sister's friend, and the now ex girlfriend of his own friend. Sienna was easy to be around, even as downtrodden as she was at the moment. "You're beautiful, clever, ambitious and kind. Need I say more?" Rob teased, though there was no trace of a lie in his words. He toasted to their good health, and knocked back most of his wine in one go. Sienna followed suit, and Rob dutifully refilled their glasses.
Rob had to remind himself that Sienna was vulnerable and that the zing of electricity that raced through his veins as she touched his shoulder was absolutely nothing. Likely static shock. Her fingers lingered, tracing the hem of his shirt, before dropping down to her side. Rob swallowed thickly, forcing his own composure. His gaze flicked to her lips as she bit down, hearing her own breath catching with his oversensitive ears. He was nearly overcome with the desire to feel those lips under his own, to taste her at long last. He murmured something about being all hers for the night, that he would do anything she asked. It was the truth once more - he reminded himself that his role tonight was to distract and cheer up his friend. Nothing more, nothing less.
Sienna's eyes found him, piercing him with an intensity that nearly crumpled his will. Rob's lips parted slightly, ready to suggest a plethora of ideas other than talking, none of which were appropriate. Her voice was low as she finally murmured what she wanted - to brew potions. Reality slammed back into place, and Rob took a step back form Sienna, clearing his head. He hitched a mischievous smile on his lips and nodded. "Yes, that's what we're here for, Si," said Rob playfully, hoping she didn't notice the edge in his voice. "What ingredients have you got? I managed to get my hands on some pearl dust the other day, thought we could experiment with that too," said Rob, peering into her potion kit and ignoring what her proximity did to his body.

Rob’s words were almost as effective as the wine in warming her from the inside out. Her heart pounded at the easy compliments that flowed from his lips, and her blood felt like it had turned to liquid fire as she considered him from a short distance away. In her flirtations at Beauxbatons, the boys were quick to compliment – beautiful proclamations that sounded eloquent and musical, but which were ultimately empty. Words that could be said to any girl without change. It was easy to either accept them or playfully turn them away, but at the end of the day they were always easily forgotten. But she could feel every word Rob said being etched into her brain, with the deep sense that he was looking at her. Rob’s eyes flicked downwards to her lips as Si pulled her hand away, and she felt her lips part with the sheer want – to close the scant distance between them and translate every stolen look and lingering touch into a fiery kiss. Merlin, the thought was tempting. Sienna had caught herself thinking about it before, but she’d never contemplated turning the fantasy into reality like she did now. But her own cowardice beat out, and Rob gracefully accepted the subject change. Si pushed down the disappointment and took a deep, shaky breath as she fought the urge to chase his warmth and take back her stupid words. Instead she smiled uncertainly and seized the new subject to avoid letting her mind wander. “Beauxbatons had an ashwinder infestation right before graduation. One of its eggs might have gone missing,” Si said cheekily as she opened her kit to allow Rob to take in the sight of the brilliant red egg. She would have gotten into so much trouble if she’d been caught, but the tantalizing prospect of such a rare potion ingredient being so close had ultimately been worth the risk. It was an exotic ingredient, the type that established potioneers might be able to acquire if they were willing to spend the galleons – but for most freelance potioneers, it was a pipe dream. Si felt a flicker of pride as she also leaned closer to admire the egg. Her breath caught and she blushed as she processed what the combination of ashwinder eggs and pearl dust would mean. “So it’ll be a love potion, then?” she asked, trying to maintain a casual tone but having the question come out breathless instead. The combination of that thought along with Rob’s dizzying proximity sent her head reeling, and Si glanced up at him through her lashes. “Unless you think you can’t keep up,” she added playfully, trying to regain a sense of their normal banter while they brewed. There was no reason they couldn’t brew a love potion – it was an advanced brew and if they did choose to experiment, it would challenge them both. Si could ignore the implications of brewing a love potion with her good friend’s incredibly attractive older brother. EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK

Electricity crackled between the pair, as Rob found his gaze drawn to her sensuous lips. The moments drew out between them as if they were frozen in time, teetering on the edge of something great. But rather than giving in to his own desires, Rob leaned back, creating the distance they so desperately needed as Sienna said that she wanted to make potions. Of course. That's why she was here. Not for Rob to make a move on his sisters' friend, on his own friend's ex girlfriend. Merlin, he had to get a grip on himself.
With a chuckle, Rob replied. "As if either of us need a love potion," said Rob, arching a brow. "How did you manage to swipe one without getting found out?" asked Rob as he glanced into her kit to examine the jewel bright egg. In an instant, Rob clocked how close his face was to Sienna's as they both hunched over the bag. Her gaze was fixed on the egg, but he found himself drawn to her. He forced himself to retreat once more, running his hand through his hair nervously.
"You're on, Linslee," Rob replied with a smirk as Sienna challenged him. He bent down, lighting the fire beneath both his and Sienna's cauldrons. Keeping a fair distance from Sienna, Rob peeked into his potions kit to take stock of his ingredients. He had peppermint, crushed rose petals, and powdered moonstone. "What d'you reckon will happen if I use rose thorns instead of petals?" asked Rob, glancing over at Sienna as she set herself up. He tipped in a measure of powdered moonstone, then paused. "Sea water," he said, mostly to himself. His eyes drifted from the beach before them to the brunette beside him. "What do you reckon?' asked Rob, his meaning plain - what sort of effect would water taken from the sea have on their potion?

Sienna wasn’t the distracted sort of person – she had never been the best student, finding it difficult to pay attention to things that bored her, but she could hardly be torn away from anything involving potions. There was something irresistible about the careful science behind the subject, or the intense concentration required to tweak a flawed recipe. In school, Si had always gotten irritable whenever someone distracted her in the middle of brewing. But she was having so much trouble concentrating on the ashwinder egg – which considering the rarity of the find, should be unthinkable. Still, her gaze kept traveling sideways towards her potions partner for the night, and she found herself dizzy at the reminder of how close he was. So it took her a moment to process his question, closing her eyes briefly to ground herself and purposely avoiding looking up at Rob and chancing the possibility of their eyes locking again. After a few beats, once she was sure she could respond in a steady voice, Si opened her eyes again and shoot Rob a playful smile. “A potioneer never reveals her secrets,” she said with a half-smirk on her face, “but it helps when the Caretaker likes you.” Sienna had never terribly misbehaved, and she had always invested time in getting to know people – even the staff. It cost absolutely nothing, and, she considered as she brushed a protective hand over the egg, sometimes it came with incredible benefits. It was easier to breathe once Rob had stepped away, although Sienna fought down disappointment at the thought and busied herself with her potions kit. He was so distracting, especially with that tempting smirk that showed his dimples. Thinking about his lips was dangerous, so Sienna carefully scrutinized the contents of her bag instead as if she had never seen it before. But she couldn’t resist the temptation of looking up to grin at Rob as he wondered about using rose thorns. “Already forgotten everything from class? How did the professor always put it? Only thugs and amateurs would ever use the thorn instead of the petal,” she said with a small laugh as she remembered their potions’ professor outraged outburst at the supposedly unstable properties of rose thorns. Being in different years, they had never shared a class together -- but people were usually quite predictable. She chewed her lip thoughtfully as she considered what adding sea water might do to the potion. “Rose thorns and salt water are both so temperamental,” she mused out-loud, “better add something to balance it out. Doesn’t wormwood cause euphoria? Doesn’t seem a bad idea if you want someone to fall in love with you.” She loved this process of shooting ideas back and forth, especially with someone who shared a passion for the subject. It was thrilling, and so much more engaging than musing over the same thoughts alone. EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK

Sienna seemed to be avoiding Rob’s gaze, but he took no notice of it. He drifted questions her way, and she answered slowly after a few moments. Rob was keen to take Sienna’s mind off of her recent breakup, but it was a bit difficult when he kept thinking about how lovely she looked in the light of the setting sun. About the way her eyes lit up as she considered the various different ingredients, about the prospect of perhaps concocting something previously unknown. Though her attitude had been dampened by these recent events, her true self shone through. Rob shook his head, chuckling. ”Oh yeah, what a parting gift,” he said with a smirk, lighting their fires under their cauldrons.
”Look, two years out in the real world makes you forget everything you’ve learned in lessons. Especially when there’s this very distracting, very clever young woman chiding me for my choices,” said Rob with a sidelong glance at Sienna.
”Suppose I’m a thug then, since I’m absolutely not an amateur,” said Rob, also remembering rather fondly the outburst from their potions professor. He’d gone off in rapid French, and Rob had duly tuned out. ”Live life a little dangerously, you know? We don’t want to brew anything boring or anything, right? We’re here to experiment,” he said with a grin. Sienna pointed out that rose thorns and salt water were both temperamental, and Rob waved away her reservations. ”It’s fine. We’ll be fine. Worst case, we blow something up by accident. I’ve got spare cauldrons,” said Rob with a mischievous glint to his eye. ”Euphoria is good, yeah. But I think in addition to the rose thorns and sea water it might be enhanced too much,” Rob murmured, tapping his lips with his finger. ”Maybe essence of hellebore? An ingredient in a calming draught. That or ginger,” mused Rob. He glanced over at Sienna again, her hair swept away from her face artfully, casually as if she didn’t care. But he couldn’t help but think to himself that Gus had lost a great deal in this separation.

Sienna had felt her own sadness enveloping her like a stifling blanket – making it impossible to breathe or even see the light. She’d been paralyzed with fear and indecision, afraid to imagine what the rest of her life was going to look like on her own and without Gus. She had even started to worry that it would begin to affect her magic soon, and that worry settled along with all the others in a ball she constantly carried with her. But, she couldn’t deny that there was nothing that could invigorate her like potions. Following the familiar process of choosing and measuring ingredients, puzzling out tricky problems, and smoothing out snags like whenever her hand would slip and accidentally add too many lionfish spines. In the end, brewing and inventing potions gave her life meaning. It was chemistry before it was magic – not measured by the power of your wand, but by your ingenuity and precision. Rob reminded her of that too – his long, drawn-out stories about the trouble he got into whenever he wrote to her, the little comments he would slip in during their conversations about all his experience freelancing and being out of school. He reminded her that there was a whole world out there, only waiting to be taken, and Si burned with equal jealousy and admiration at how fearless he was in seizing it. “Well, if you’re lucky enough to have a woman like that in your life,” she began in a teasing tone, “It sounds like you should do everything she says. Why delay the inevitable by fighting it?” Even as she spoke, those words sounded anything but innocent to her, and Si’s heart pounded at her accidental honesty. She’d never considered herself particularly good at sharing what was on her mind, but Rob seemed talented at getting her to accidentally admit her actual thoughts. Useful in an innocent subject like potionmaking, but dangerous when they veered into new and unfamiliar areas. Her cheeks burned at the thought even as her eyes lingered on Rob to see what his reaction would be. Potion ingredients, she reminded herself sternly as her hand brushed the mortar and pestle she’d been neglecting. Si gave a low laugh at Rob’s assurances that the worst they could do was blow something up – a valid concern when it came to changing recipes – and brought her hand up to lightly trace a finger over one of Rob’s eyebrows. “I think worst-case scenario is you lose these for a while, and then we’ll see how casual you are about exploding cauldrons,” she suggested, her voice dropping lower in pitch. He was saying something about the rose thorns and sea water, but Sienna had lost her train of thought and wasn’t following the complicated logic of how certain ingredients could produce a bad reaction when combined together. It was a difficult enough calculation when you were completely focused on the task, and Sienna…was woefully not. At the mention of hellebore, Sienna took a steadying breath. She hadn’t been listening to the context, so she fell back on her extensive potions knowledge to offer a true – if not slightly unhelpful – fact. “Since hellebore is ridiculously toxic, you’d need to take special care when diluting it. Otherwise this love potion will take a dark turn,” she murmured, taking her hand away and brushing the hair from her face instead. Merlin, Rob was distracting. She didn’t know how she would ever be able to get a potion done around him. EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK

Captivated by the intensity of her eyes, Rob found it hard to offer Sienna a quick and sharp reply. He said nothing for a moment, searching her face for a sign, an offering to give in to temptation. After a long while, he let out a low chuckled, a crooked grin lifting the corner of his mouth. "Yeah? What else would this wonderful woman like to tell me to do? Seeing as I am so lucky to have her in my life. I don't think she realises just how lucky she makes me though," said Rob, then he chewed on his lip. He hadn't meant to say the last part aloud, but it was out there now, hanging between them. "I would do anything for you, Sienna," he admitted in a voice barely above a whisper, his gaze locked on hers.
The tension between them sizzled as Sienna returned her attention to her mortar and pestle, and Rob cleared his throat, dutifully following suit. He hadn't meant to invite her here for anything more than innocent potion brewing. But now with the atmosphere charged between them, the way she practically glowed as she considered the various different effects that would come from mixing different reagents, and the soft curve of her lips as she offered him that smile that was reserved just for him... well, Rob couldn't very well help the sinful thoughts that plagued him.
Rob suggested hellebore or ginger, to which Sienna replied that hellebore was toxic and needed to be handled with care. "I know. Well, perhaps we go with ginger then. Unless you think you can be trusted with the onerous task of diluting hellebore?" asked Rob, quirking a brow. Si brushed a lock of dark hair from her face, and Rob was unable to stop himself. As it came loose once more from behind her ear, Rob reached out, tucking it back gently. His fingers lingered at her jawline, as he ached to draw her near and taste her as he had longed to do for years.

Si wondered if Rob knew how easy it was to send her mind racing with one word, or if he was oblivious to the effect he had on her. She’d always enjoyed the attention she would get from him, harmless as she convinced herself it was. There’d always been an aura of mystery to him, and even worse, one of being off-limits too. He was Heleen’s older brother, after all, and the two girls had always been close in school. And he was friends with Gus, and having fantasies about her attractive older friend had always felt disrespectful to him, even before they’d officially started dating. The fact that he was forbidden territory had been enough in the past to persuade her to not turn thought into action…but a jolt of lightning ran down her spine now as he admitted those words in a low whisper. I would do anything for you.
She felt her hands curl involuntarily around her mortar and pestle, her thoughts feverish as they ran away from her at what seemed to almost be an invitation. Her voice was as low as a whisper, thick with heady desire as Rob filled her vision completely. “Anything?” she repeated, unable to tear her eyes away from his, wondering if she dared to push this any further. Si had felt so alone after the breakup, isolated from her school friends and a step away from moving to a new country where she didn’t know anybody. Everything had been made ten times worse with the knowledge that she couldn’t simply reach out to Gus like she always did, and so she’d been left suspended in doubt and sadness, desperately needing comfort. That was why she’d really come here, right? It wasn’t about the potions, whether ginger or hellebore was the better ingredient for the task. Sienna needed to chase away her thoughts for a while, and Rob had always made her feel safe. Her mind went completely blank as Rob’s fingers traced her jawline, and her lips parted. “Fuck, who cares about hellebore?” Sienna suddenly said, as something in her brain violently shifted and she made a snap decision in that moment. She wanted him, badly. She wanted to feel the warmth of his skin, and the pounding of his heartbeat, and she wanted his lips on hers immediately. Sienna bit her lip, doubted herself for one moment, and then let it go. Closing the last scarcest bit of distance between them, Sienna brought a hand to his neck and pulled him in for a feverish kiss, lifting her other hand to thread through his hair and keep him close. She’d wondered about it for so long, wanted it for so long, that in the overwhelming rush of sensations a moan escaped her as she pressed herself closer to Rob. She pulled away after a moment, and struggled to catch her breath. “Tell me to leave, and I will,” she panted, “otherwise…”EPKE ROBERTUS OPPEDYK

It was natural for Rob to sing Sienna's praises. She was equally talented and beautiful, and they had always had some sort of connection. Rob denied it fully because of Gus, and because Sienna was a friend of Heleen's. And so even though it went against every fibre of his being, Rob dutifully kept his distance from Sienna, at least in a romantic capacity. But right now, Sienna was looking at him like he wanted her to look at him, and her lips were parted and her cheeks were flushed and she was no longer Gus' girlfriend. Rob swallowed thickly, a low buzzing filling his mind as he looked back at her in much the same manner.
"Anything," Rob echoed, his voice barely above a whisper. Rob's fingers lingered at the curve of her jaw, having tucked a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear. He couldn't help himself. The electricity between them sizzled, roaring to a fever pitch as the silence stretched between them. Rob saw a flash of doubt in Sienna's eyes, before determination replaced it, and suddenly she was kissing him.
It was everything Rob had hoped for and more. Sienna's lips moved against his in such a natural way, the warmth of her proximity wrapping around Rob like a blanket. Rob returned her kiss eagerly, his fingers tangling in her hair, drawing her nearer. He couldn't get enough of her, her scent, her taste, her feel. Rob was intoxicated, finally giving into his most hidden desires. But all too soon, Sienna was pulling away, and a noise of dissent rumbled from Rob's throat. "No," he replied huskily, drawing her in again. "I've wanted this for so long," he murmured, before kissing her again, equally as feverish as the first.
Their cauldrons bubbled away, completely forgotten as Sienna and Rob lost themselves in one another. Rob curved an arm around her waist, shifting her so that he could lift her and carry her back into the flat. He held her, and pulled away for only a moment. "I've always needed you, Sienna," said Rob, his eyes searching her own for any indication that she didn't want to take this further.
