with every battle, we lose a little more remember everything that we'd die for James tapped his fingers on the old wooden table in the familiar Three Broomsticks. It wasn’t uncommon to see him here, and he’d only just graduated about three years before. Watching the students pile in—the students arrived in red, yellow, blue and green waves giving James a very nostalgic feeling of simpler times. Of course, the last couple of years he had in school were anything but simple, though he understood more now that he was older. Harry, his father, had reunified the opposing factions of the Order of the Phoenix, and he understood why even if he was still a bit miffed that he had been left out of that planning. Cas and Claire were trustworthy and talented in their individual fields, and it wasn’t like James to not trust his father’s way, but it had left a strange feeling in his chest.
Still, he could look forward to the combined forces hopefully making progress toward defeating the Purifiers. James knew of some of his father’s plans, even if he wasn’t the “leader” anymore and operating in his own right. Maybe this hierarchy was better, although James still noted the weight his father carried on his shoulders. Checking his phone, he answered a few messages and rechecked the time—unless she’d landed herself in detention, she should be here shortly. Lingering remnants of Phoenix Rising were now in their older years at Hogwarts, and while the group had disbanded after certain events, it seemed it was time to bring it back. James disagreed outright with the overwhelming decision of the Order members to exclude Students from their activities. James had argued that it wasn’t as if they were being used in more dangerous missions but more of helping them prepare if they were to be recruited when they graduated.
The variety of careers that students went into was beneficial to them. Having Cursebreakers, Aurors, Professors, Journalists, all types of jobs helped their cause. However, he had been overruled by veterans and parents—which made sense but still didn’t quell his desire to do more. Many that had voted against him had not experienced what perhaps his father had seen, but James had seen death and experienced fear in a place that was supposed to be the safest. So it felt wrong not to prepare those he left behind when he graduated. James knew Brígh had the energy and the same sense of justice, and she was an intelligent kid, surely she had friends that would be willing as well. Kat expressed interest as well, but he had limited his correspondence to not alarm the Order members.

As of late, Brígh had spent much time at the Three Broomsticks, but it was never with the people of her choice. Mainly, she'd had a massive blow up with her da in this very pub. The memory surfaced and Brígh grimaced as she pushed open the door, ushering in a chilled wind with her as she did so. She'd arranged to meet James and chat through more about plans for a resurgence, to resist the snuffing from the Order. Brígh hadn't been certain of the Order's existence, but it was confirmed with conversations from James.
Spotting her friend immediately, Brígh managed a smile as she sidled through the various tables, crowded with boisterous shouts of delight at a day of freedom and revelry in the village. "Hey," Brígh greeted breathlessly, pausing at the table. Her glance slid over to the bar, and she motioned for James to wait a moment as she swept over and ordered two firewhisky and two butterbeer. Poised precariously on a tray, Brígh brought the drinks back over to James as she slid into the seat across from him.
Brígh surveyed James, noticing a tiredness to him. As if the weight of the world rested on his shoulders. "You okay?" asked Brígh quietly, taking a sip of her butterbeer as she did so. Despite the turmoil in her own life, Brígh did worry about James. And she wondered why in the name of Merlin's saggy y-fronts she hadn't developed a massive crush on the older of the Potter siblings, the one who was ultimately and undeniably good.

with every battle, we lose a little more remember everything that we'd die for James watched as Brígh entered but went to the bar. She greeted him and then went to the bar. While he waited, James continued to survey the bar as he waited. His other reason for that was to search for any familiar Order faces. James very well couldn’t discuss Phoenix Rising business with Claire or Parvati nearby. So many of the Order members had children at the school and siblings as well. He was aware of at least two off the top of his head. It had been almost an overwhelming response to stopping student involvement, which James had been honestly surprised by. He would have thought his experiences would have added some sway, but it hadn’t done a thing. ”Thanks.” He said to the butterbeer and firewhiskey. It still wasn’t his instinct to say anything about the seventh year drinking firewhiskey, he’d done plenty of that himself after his fifth year, and he knew he needed one.
Shrugging, James drank some of the firewhiskey—letting the warmth come over him as his shoulders finally seemed to relax. ”I’m fine. Why?” James didn’t realize how much he took after his father at times. Carrying the weight of things not meant to be carried alone. He thought about the last discussions he’d had with his father regarding covert operations and tactical ideas for the Order, but in the back of his mind, he thought about if reviving Phoenix Rising was still the right thing to do. Sometimes, James realized they were right. It could get risky, but the chance of more activity at the school was incredibly low. But, if James remembered correctly—most of them were talented students, and he’d rather herd them into the Order early than risk them going off on their own or, worse, be scooped up by the Purifiers. ”How’re your classes going?” Seventh year meant NEWT level topics, which was difficult enough without the extra work of this club. ”Kat said you two spoke. How many more have you spoken to?” His concern was privacy. Parvati and others were at the school, and especially with some of them veterans of his father’s old student organization, they wouldn’t be so easily fooled.
