personality
likes:
working with his hands, the smell of fresh cut wood, walking in freshly fallen snow, cold air, swimming, his family, meeting new people, traditions, building boats, tending to nature, animals of all sorts.
dislikes:
hammering his fingers, when tree's don't grow, mean people, when his family is hurting, big cities, tension, burning his hands, not being able to tend to an animal, pointless waste.
overall personality:
benevolent | whenever jak does something, you can rest assured he's doing it because he believes it's what's best. he's never made a malicious choice in his life, he doesn't know jealousy and he doesn't like saying words against anyone and he treats everyone he meets the same. he's kind to just about everyone unless he has good reason not to be and it hurts him when he can't be nice.
forgetful | he tends to be forgetful when it comes to things that aren't to do with his work. he can remember every boat he's ever had a hand in building, every tree he's ever tended and he never forgets to look after his family's forest but when it comes to things like birthdays, family events and even forgetting to eat, when left to his own devices to remember, the odds are he won't remember.
venturesome | he'll say yet to just about any opportunity or suggestion. he doesn't really have a danger radar and anything he hasn't done is just an experience waiting to happen. he does now sometimes have the good sense to say no when something really doesn't sound like a good idea but when he was a child he could be talked into absolutely anything by his siblings and his cousins.
disorderly | he's not the tidiest person in the world. his cabin is disorderly, his workshop looks like a bombs hit it but he knows where everything is. he's never been good at keeping things neat and tidy because he's always had something else to do or he gets distracted before he can tidy up.
tough | he takes the knocks that life gives out without complaint. he doesn't whine when things don't work, he just looks at situations from other angles and he'll try different things till he finds what works. when he's hurt he'll deal with it and power through, when he's sad he'll use a stiff upper lip and get on with it. he refuses to appear soft or vulnerable because that's not what his village needs.

history:
jak grew up a druid of two homes. born in lapland but raised between hy-brasil and the community he called his home, his family split their time between the two communities. it was done this way so they could tend the forests that had been taken care of by their family for generations. his father came from a long line of boat builders, building boats with their hands and weaving magic into the very seams of the wood. from a young age jak knew that it's what he wanted to do. he wanted to help his father build the boats, tend the tree's and one day teach his own children the same way of life. growing up it was always hard to go between the places, though it was always harder to leave lapland because it's where his cousins were, it was the place he felt the most connected to and the place he always felt more at home in.
one of his favourite memories of growing up is when he and his cousin virvatuli used to ride reindeer through the forest, racing to here and there and spending hours getting themselves lost in nature and exploring the wonderous place in which they lived, connecting to both the flora and fauna that co-existed with them. when he was around ten years old his father really started teaching him how to build the boats they did. their family averaged two a year, one in lapland and one in hy-brasil. every piece of wood that went into the boats was grown in the forests they tended, planted a generation before and it honoured him to be able to weave the wood that had been tended by his ancestors. it made him more determined to grow and plant his own generation of tree's that could be used by his children and their children one day.
he learned how to join seams with magic, how to charm the wood to fit just so and how bestow enchantments upon the boats to protect them against sinking, damage and the weather. before too long it became second nature for him to work beside his father and eventually his brother when he grew old enough. though when he was seventeen he made a choice. he wanted to stay in lapland. he wanted to settle in the place he called his home. it took some convincing but eventually his parents relented and allowed him to stay in lapland full time, tending the forest there and building the shells of boats, finishing the work of the year before and harvesting the wood once it was mature enough to be harvested.
that's where he's been for the last two years. in his own corner of the world he's managed to stay pretty oblivious to the actual happenings in the rest of the world. apart from when his cousins visit or tell him information in the owls exchanged between the mainland and his home, he tries not to find out details. it's not his world and he doesn't think it ever will be. he'll never be able to understand why his cousins were able to leave the place they called home. but that doesn't mean he doesn't support their ability to make their own choices. he has visited them on occasion but it has taken him a while to get to that point. the first time he ever stepped foot on the mainland it was so strange for him. what open spaces they did have seemed to be filled with fences, building in site and littered with small towns with no real space.
when he'd first been in a city he'd felt like he'd been choking. there was so much concrete, the car fumes that filled the air and the littler that had been strewn around the streets and no space between the buildings for anything to grow. of course there had been the odd plant but it had been all but choked out by everything around it. the only good thing about the city had been the people he'd been able to meet. wizards who had their own story, their own lives and their own experiences and there was so many cultures and a richness within the world that had been different to the richness he'd experienced growing up. but no matter how much he loved meeting the people who resided in the city, it was too suffocating for him to really enjoy.
once he stepped back on his home soil he'd felt better. it was nothing a bit of fresh air and open spaces and a walk through miles and miles of untouched forest and wilderness to refresh the spirit that the mainland has seemed to choke out of him. it has gotten easier for him to visit though, he can spend a few days on the mainland before he feels like he needs to leave. while he doesn't actively seek out information about the rest of the world he can feel a change in the air. the tension being felt by the plants and animals alike was enough to make one wonder what was happening. he knows he can't stay oblivious forever but he's in denial about how his life might change. the muggle world gets closer to their home every year and the world is spinning differently and he doesn't know what he can do about it. he knows he lacks the courage and conviction his cousin virva had when she left to try and make a difference, he's just at a loss for how he can help keep the peace and safety that seems to surround his home.
