Xantha finally caved and agreed to work with him when he brought up helping the troubled girl next door. It seemed the neighbor girl was a potential soft spot for his daughter. As she opened the door more into the tiny, rundown apartment, he almost wished he hadn’t stepped inside.
Now, Zee knew he was in no position to judge his abandoned daughters living conditions when he hadn’t provided for her when she needed him the most. But her apartment was cramped and smelled of mildew. Not to mention the two beds in the room…. He wasn’t going to comment on, or make her feel bad for her living conditions, because that wasn’t what he was there for. And she probably felt bad enough about it…
"Thank you for your cooperation, Xantha." he told her, turning down his radio so the static interference wouldn't drone over their conversation.
But when Zee questioned the man, much to Xantha's dismay, the young man told him to contact his manager, which sounded silly since most people would rather send their lawyers. Zee shrugged, ”Fair enough. Thank you.” he nodded curtly to signify that he understood his wish to remain silent and politely took the card he extended it to him. Zee took a glance at it and placed it in his inner coat pocket. Sure. He was fine with that. He had no desire to retrieve information from the young man at this time anyways, since he wasn’t mentioned in the initial report. The Officer held his composure, though the red eyes truly made him uneasy.
From the many years in his career, Zee knew not to believe everything filed in a report, but he was slightly surprised to see that Xantha seemed to be unscathed…
She started to share details about the altercation with her neighbor. He breathed in, “I couldn’t find the knife in the apartment. Were you…not..stabbed?” His eyebrow quirked up, eyes trailing down to inspect her from afar. Zee knew she’d probably get pissed for asking a question about her, but he needed to get that cleared away first.

Despite the fact Emrys was mostly quiet, Xantha was glad he was around. He felt like an anchor, not to mention that he'd said he'd stay for the night, meaning she probably wouldn't be dying today. Well, not unless she was suffering from internal bleeding and Emrys decided it wasn't his problem. While vaguely possible she didn't expect him to care that little and well, if it was between death and debt she was currently still opting in for life. At some point there was little point but for now she still believed it was possible to get out of debt at some point in her life. She was young enough and still able to earn money doing something she loved rather than something that sucked all the joy out of life.
When she finally allowed her father entry it wasn't difficult to see that small flicker in his eyes as he saw her living condition. He likely found it abysmal but all in all Xantha was plenty proud of the tiny little place they had. It was so much more than the streets had offered and despite the fact it was only marginally safer here than on the streets it was the best she could do. She wasn't so much ashamed of her place as aware that other people would be. It barely counted as liveable, which was the only reason that she'd been able to rent it. Other places required a more solid income and proof she wasn't a destructive tennant and so much other paperwork or demands that she couldn't meet. This was the only place she could get, which meant she was proud enough of it.
It was almost annoying Emrys got off by just handing over a card and her dad kept nagging her for information. It was bothersome but she understood it, a little bit. She didn't comment, nor did she herself feel particularly bothered by Emrys' red eyes. Contacts and he never left the house without them or some peculiar genetic variation. Since he either slept with the contacts in (likely enough) to keep up his image or just simply had red eyes she didn't really feel too bothered. She'd always known him like that and he'd never done anything to bring her harm. Not that it meant that there was something more between them, his silence made that quite clear. He didn't deny that he'd get over her soon enough if she died and well, her dad didn't attempt to counter it either. It would have been painful, if she hadn't adjusted to that reality many years ago.
He got back to the stabbing again and she groaned and rolled her eyes. "Do I look like I got stabbed?" She asked in full irritation. "I let you in to ask questions that would help the girl, not to bother me about my physical health. Maybe I'll give you the answers to those questions when you're on the other side of the doorframe again so I can shut the door in your face if you bother asking it multiple times in a row again. Now that we've got that covered, start asking what you need to know to actually, you know... save her life? He's going to kill her if he manages to find her again." Xantha reminded him tartly. While she knew the same was true if he ever managed to find her, which was probably a bit easier. On that point confessing to the stabbing would likely benefit her, as it meant they might put more priority on trying to locate him. Yet it was too much hasstle and she honestly couldn't care. Next time the girl wouldn't be around so he'd be coming to her door so she could just open it with a knife in hand and make it self defence before calling the ambulance to pick him up. Good enough really.

Emrys gave a smug look when the man took the card. He had no idea what he excepted. Charlotta Holopainen was a force. She didn't take any crap, he would know. She took control of any situation, and if needed, had the resources to get anyone involved that needed to. She could take care of the officer, though he doubted the officer would have more questions for him. Emrys mostly gave the man the card to stop him from asking about his name. He really didn't want to end up in some muggle police report. It was purely selfish. Charlotta would literally kill him if that happened. Now, it was in her court. What happened next, in that regard, was up to her. It was true, the woman had an army of lawyers at her beck and call, and by extent, so did Emrys. But why bother reaching out to them when Charlotta could do it?
The officer seemed extremely calm with Emrys' actions. Perhaps he was an ignorant muggle. Though it was strange to find one ignorant of the magical world, and so unfazed by his strange appearance. True, Xantha was the same, but he had ensured that she wouldn't find anything strange about his eyes, or his fangs.
Then they got down to business. Emrys feeling completely ignored. Normally, he hated that feeling, but in this instance, he didn't mind it. He shifted his vision to the window he was near, keeping an eye outside. His vision better than most at night, he would be able to spot anything going on out there. His body still tense, he was far from at ease. The vampire placed his foot up on the wall, ready to kick off if the need arose. He had remained silent as Xantha spoke. He guessed there would be a part of him that would miss her. But he lived in the moment. Why miss what wasn't there?
This attention drew back to Xantha. She didn't appear as if she had been stabbed because of him. It was all thanks to him. Though he couldn't say that. A corner of his mouth turned upward. He should still be proud of his work. "I can confirm, her body is in top shape." He spoke smugly, giving a suggestive look and wink to Xantha. It seemed as though the officer and father chose to ignore all lude comments he had made. But perhaps this little lie would assist in her story of not being harmed. He let her speak, stating that she would only answer questions that were relevant to the actual incident.

Xantha's friend continued to make inappropriate comments. Which he pretended not to be phased by but his blood was boiling. Zee knew if he reacted in the way he truly fancied, Xantha would kick him out immediately. So, he decided to pretend the magical freak wasn't there. It was a better idea for the sake of the case and possibly the young ladies life. He'd investigate into the card he gave him for the sake of getting a closer look at who - or what - Xantha was associating herself with. The male gave him an odd feeling.
Zee expected her to get upset for asking about getting stabbed, so he looked at her face, and then up and down slowly for a moment when she asked the question. "I-I don't know.." he answered her honestly. An odd feeling of confusion and relief flooding him when he realized there was no blood on her clothing or inside the cramped living space. Zee shrugged it off, not wishing to take any more of their precious time. Especially if she wasn't harmed...
His expression softened, "Thank you for cooperating, Xantha." he gave her a curt nod, ignoring the red-eyed freak because Zee felt himself boiling over from the previous comment about his daughter's body. "I will be out of both of your hair in a moment.." he assured her, pulling out a small notebook and pen from his inner pocket to write down any details for the investigation. "Can you tell me anything you know about the man, and/or their relationship? Does this happen often?" he asked her. It seemed like a silly question because he'd be getting the victim's side at the station but he wanted to hear from a witness' perspective. Zee knew the walls of these sorts of places were paper-thin, so they could most likely hear fights if they occurred often.

Oh the lewd meaning behind the compliment that Emrys graced her with pulled her lips into a smile despite herself and the pain she was still factually experiencing, even if she denied it as much as she possibly could. She looked and saw the wink Emrys gave her and she couldn't help but smile coyly at him before shooting him back a wink. She knew that without his help she wouldn't be in half as decent a shape as she was now. He was a man of many secrets, but none so far had really bothered her. He didn't pretend to be anything around her and openly flirted if he felt like it, which only amused her more. Yet despite his playful nature he hadn't hesitated or asked a lot of questions when she'd called him early to ask for his help. He'd just... been there. It was a nice feeling to know somebody was looking out for her a little bit. It wasn't much and she didn't really want or expect more but well, the saving her life part was appreciated a lot.
Yet she could almost feel his searching eyes as she questioned his perception and she had to make sure to keep her stance at ease despite everything that screamed that she needed to conceal her side. There was nothing he could see and if he could, well the lie was already up. Not that she'd mostly recently lied, it was more a counter question to ensure he decided she'd been telling the truth earlier when she'd lied. It was no use to constantly repeat the same thing over and over after all. Yet as he once again thanked her for cooperating she raised a brow. "You already mentioned that." She said a little flatly, wondering if Emrys was throwing him off. He had to know that she was bound to have certain interactions at her age, especially after she'd been living on the streets. He'd already had her at the station, supposedly for soliciting (which was a false accusation and fully beside the point) so it made little sense that Emrys and his lewd comments would throw him off that much. Yet she saw the look in his eyes, subtle as it was. It had that reserved air about it that he often used when he had suspicions on something or somebody. Well good, that only gave Emrys extra credit in her mind. Anybody her father disliked was bound to be good for her.
He then finally actually asked about the neighbours and Xantha took a deep breath. "Tall, usually smells horrid and regularly like alcohol, garlic and cologne. Has a bit of an umkempt appearance because he's drunk half the time. He always speaks loudly and raises his voice, especially if he feels he's not done talking yet. He's rude towards the girl, publically humiliates her on a regular basis and if he moves to push hair out of his face she always flinches or takes a step back, which seems to annoy him. She's nearly always having 'accidents' because she's supposedly clumsy but the entire flat hears the screaming. Nobody really bothers him because he's mentally unstable and most of us? Cops wouldn't bat an eye if we went missing and we're all struggling enough. I don't know any of my neighbours by name for a very good reason. I'm usually out the evenings but my roommate regularly hears them fight. Sometimes the neighbours turn up the music to drown her out though. It's at least once a month but lately more like once a week, usually on the Friday when he's been drinking again." Xantha said in a rather cold and detached tone. It was a little too close to home for her to want to open up on it more. Pretending she didn't care was a lot easier to keep up without breaking down. She didn't want to end up sobbing and ripping the stitches that Emrys had given her. It was improvised but she cared for it rather much. It kept her from bleeding out after all and was quite a bit less bothersome and expensive than going to a hospital where there would be a lot of checking for internal bleeding and whatnot. Hassle that she couldn't be bothered to pay for really.
"Anything else?" She asked her dad, looking at him sharply as she fought against the wave of naussea that swept over her. She needed to keep her composure, that much was certain. The moment he was back out of the door she could break down a tiny little bit. As long as it wasn't so much that Emrys would feel obligated to stay and care for her. The thought alone was a horror to her. She didn't want to be dependant on other people, even less so if they made her feel like they had to take care of her. If it got to that she'd better well and truly be in the process of dying.

The old man continued to ignore Emrys. But the vampire was observant. He could tell he had gotten under the man's skin. That was right were he liked it. He also enjoyed seeing a Xantha smile from it. Although he wasn't the center of attention, he was getting exactly where he wanted to be. He doubted that the muggle officer actually knew the kind of power and abilities he had. First off, he was a vampire, but he could also preform magic quite well. His smug expression said it all. He had the greatest secret that they would never know. Emrys appeared relaxed, though he was fully conscious of his wand and the best and fastest way to draw it. He didn't trust this man, and it seemed that Xantha didn't like him being there.
The moment of truth came when Xantha had asked the man if it looked as if she had been shot. The new shirt and her clean up had worked, along with his excellent magic and stitching. His smug smile broadened. He could easily find the spots that had been covered or moved to hide blood. But perhaps that was because he was there when it happened.
The officer moved back to business, something that Emrys had nothing to say about, so his eyes wondered back out to the dark streets. Spotting something, He shifted deeper into the shadows and focused. His excellent night vision focusing on a hidden figure. He listened to Xantha's description, but kept his eyes outside the window. His easy going demeanor changed, his predatory instincts kicking in once again. His hand reached into his jacket. He could feel the slick texture of his ebony wand grace his fingers. Should he? An image of a raging Charlotta in his mind told him...no. So his shifted, pulling out a simple pack of cigarettes. Emrys didn't smoke often, usually when he was feeling on edge or needed a reason to stay outside for a time. His eyes unmoving, he pulled one out, placing the box back in his jacket he stuck the butt in between his lips. "Hey, Coppa, you gotta light." His eyes finally moving back to the room. "You don't mind, do you, Sexy?" He winked at Xantha. Smoking was not his intention. Especially after sing the painting supplies. He could smell that some of them were more flammable than the rest of the contents of the area. But he wasn't about to just be helpful. He would have his fun too.

Zee pulled a breath of air through his nostrils when his daughter said that he had already thanked her for cooperating. Suddenly feeling like some over grateful police robot. Both of the kids in front of him were really knocking him off of his roll tonight. Hell, he didn't like that. But as Xantha started to explain the details, it was everything he had heard before. He listened to every word she said, scrawling brief notes and looking up at her to show he was listening. Zee knew he shouldn't take every word his daughter said to heart about an investigation, but he wanted to believe he could trust her information since she expressed wanting to help the girl.
Then young man had the audacity to ask him to light his smoke. His head tilted to the side and his lips kissed his teeth with a small, challenging smile. "'Fraid not, kid." he lied through his teeth, knowing damn well he had a lighter in his pant pocket, and another in his coat. Zee was a smoker and his wife hated it.
Feeling himself growing slightly more agitated with the red eyed freak, he turned to his daughter with a soft smile, blue eyes looking her over another time. He wasn't fully convinced she was okay, but it wasn't his position to change that, if she didn't want the help. His mouth opened to say something, then closed, "Alright, well, that's all the information I need tonight. If you find out any more information you know where to find me. Thank you, again, and have a good night." he told them with a nod as he started for the door, radio static increasing on his shoulder. "Stay out of trouble." he told them, looking at the young man specifically with a challenging expression as he opened the door and stepped outside.

It wasn't like Xantha was an expert on Emrys and his behaviour but they'd spent enough time together that she was far more attuned to him than her dad was. She noticed the tiny subtle little things, like how he'd been tense ever since her dad had knocked on the door. How he relaxed but somehow was still coiled like a cobra, ready to strike if needed. She was surprised when he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and asked her father for a smoke, but she had a feeling there was something going on. She felt terrified at the notion but if there was anything she was used to it was hiding her fears and weaknesses so as Emrys asked her if she didn't mind she shrugged slightly. "Just don't get caught on fire." She said, but her tone of voice would make it obvious to him that she meant that he needed to be careful in this neighbourhood. People got killed her, as she had almost demonstrated herself.
Her father didn't have a light and so Xantha rolled her eyes and opened a drawer and pulled out a lighter, which she tossed at Emrys. "Catch!" She said, mostly to avoid the thing falling on the floor. It was an abandoned lighter she'd found and well, sometimes bills got tight enough that the girls ended up with a candle as light source to ensure they could at least do something. It was not something they liked doing but well, there wasn't always a lot in terms of choices. However, with Emrys going out for a smoke she did not like the idea of being left alone, even less so when her dad also seemed to be leaving. For some reason her instincts told her to stall a little so she managed to bite down the part of her that wanted to see the back of her father far more than the front. Just a minute and if Emrys wasn't back by then she'd just lock the door and grab an improvised weapon for the night. At least a wall was better than attempting to find her way somewhere to a friend. "Dad... wait." She managed after a moment.
"Look, I'm not trying to solialise.... but..." She sighed and shook her head reluctantly as she tried to figure how to buy just a little time for Emrys and his smoke. Horrible habit but oh well, she wanted him around too much to start making a fuss now of all times. At least he was taking it outside. "Maybe it'd be useful to have your card... just in case." She said reluctantly. She'd stuff it in a drawer but at least she could use it if she had it. Her pride could have been the downfall of the girl next door and that was not acceptable. She paused for a moment as she relaxed her stance just a tiny bit. "How is Xena? I haven't really been able to write her... I don't really have an adress." She admitted. She then considered for a brief moment. "Could you maybe send her a letter I wrote her a while back? I can go grab it......" She muttered, knowing she'd definitively forsake all caution and sense if he turned that request down. He pretended to be a father, but if he was a cop first and father second she knew which end up of the stick she'd be on and she simply wasn't interested. Then again, maybe this time he'd actually show a little compassion.

Emrys had no intention to smoke tonight, but to lure the officer to the window to see the suspicious man hiding just outside. But the man simply gave him an irritated smile and said that he didn't. Emrys could smell that he was lying. Cigarette smoke was one of those smells that clung. While it may not have been obvious to anyone else, Emrys knew. This was annoying. He wasn't about to simply tell the man to come over. Even if he did, it was clear that the man intended to leave as soon as he got the information he wanted. Luckily Xantha obliged him, tossing him a lighter. He caught it with ease and smiled. "I wont be long." He said in that haughty kind of tone that simply said that he was done with the officer and his annoying presence.
As he walked out of the small flat, Emrys could hear Xantha buying him some time. He'd be sure to be quick. Once the door was closed behind him he knew he didn't have a lot of time. He pocketed the unburned cigarette and lighter. Apperating to a clear spot outside. The vampire's red eyes pearled around the corner to spot the man. From Xantha's description, and the blood on him, Emrys knew that it was the man. Ensuring that no one else was watching, the vampire pulled out his wand. He'd take care of this in no time.

Zee stopped when Xantha called out ‘Dad’. The word crossing her lips caught him off guard. He hadn’t heard that word come out of her mouth in years. Dad. There was a time in his life when he loved being a father and he was proud. These days he felt like a phony. She followed with asking for his card, which surprised him a bit.
The Officer turned on his heel and reached into his left chest pocket for a contact card with all of his information, “Just in case.” he told her with ease, nodding curtly. “It’s my personal line, so if you need or hear anything, just give me a ring, e-mail, text, carrier pidgen, whatever.” He insisted, feeling like a loser dad again. Fuck. This was hard.
He wasn’t expecting her to ask about Xen for some reason. He felt like he had to think of a lie, which was stupid. ”I don’t have the information for Xen’s school on me right now, but I can assure you I will do everything in my power to get the letter to her.” he promised her solemnly, swallowing. Zee took a breath and exhaled, ”Xen’s school is very…remote…they use owls for communication. There's no technology in the mountains of Scotland…or so I’m told.” Zee told her, already feeling like a fucking lunatic saying it out loud. He closed his mouth, clenching is jaw. ”-But she seems to be doing well and enjoys school.” he answered her question quickly, unsure how to do so without giving too many details about magic.
Still standing in the door frame, ”So, yes, uh..I can help. I’d be happy to.” he cracked a small smile and gave his daughter and her living space another look over while he had the chance. He was relieved the young man stepped outside because his nerves were going back to normal.

Xantha didn't have great instincts when it came to self preservation but she wasn't the type to push for more information. If anything, she was far too aware that only led to getting answers you never wanted and information that could only hurt. Xantha was fine with not knowing a lot of things and keeping some illusions in her life. She didn't exactly have many to begin with. So even though it made no sense for Emrys to pick this moment to go smoke, she was fully ready to convince herself that it was all he was going to do. It was a lot easier than convincing herself that he'd be safe if he was going to do something impulsive. Knowing Emrys it was far more likely to impulsive than it was to be safe. He didn't have his bodyguard with him either, which meant he was a lot more vulnerable than he usually was. She didn't like that, but she wasn't going to make a fuss of it either.
Her father did work with her and gave his card and her eyes trailed over it as he talked about Xen and her school. No information on him, no technology and using owls to communicate. Really? He could at least have tried for a more convincing lie, but she wasn't about to comment on it. It was nothing more than a reminder of her place in his world. At the sidelines where she couldn't stir up too much trouble. She smiled a bemused smile that didn't really reach her eyes. "Some school." She simply said. Promising start for her sister in the real world if any of that was true. Almost every single job required at least a little knowledge of technology and if it was so remote it had no technology and not even a phone line or anything it hardly seemed like a good school. But whatever, boarding school in Scotland that she was not to write herself. Easy enough. It wasn't like her sister was used to getting letters from her anyway. She hadn't had much of a return adress in years.
Xantha listened in silence as she opened a drawer and pulled out a relatively thick envelope. It wasn't just one letter but a few she'd wanted to send her sister. She closed it so if he decided to open them it would likely stand out. Not to same envelope at least. She then handed it to her father a little doubtfully. She didn't quite trust the man after all, least of all with the blatant lies, but there was little point in mentioning to him that he needed to refine his lies. It wasn't like she planned to contact him often enough to give him time to practise. It was easier when she had no reason to hope things might one day change. "Just let me know how much they charge at the post office. I'll pay the charges." She said as she handed it over. She was quiet for half a moment. "For what it's worth... I do appreciate you helping her out. Maybe she'll actually have a shot at a better life now." Xantha said, although she honestly doubted that. People that lived in places like this almost never escaped poverty. If they were lucky they just got less poor. The few that did often managed to achieve some sort of break through they'd been aiming for a long time. Maybe one day she would, although she didn't count on it. Her time was ticking, even though she was still young. Still, she'd rather be here than accepting help for herself from her father. She didn't want to depend on him after he'd broken her trust.

Emrys was alone. Once he was sure that no eyes were on him, he moved. The man was a drunken fool. Easy to overcome. His blood gave Emrys a small buzz. The kind one got after drinking a less alcoholic beverage. Closing the punctures, he erased the mans memory. But now that he had slightly less blood in him, he'd be easier to hypnotize. True, he could just as easily dispose of him. But Emrys was smarter than that. He knew that the muggle officers would be looking for him, and even if they found no trace, someone higher up may involve the Aurors who still wouldn't find much, but he would be placed here. And let's be honest, there was no scenario did that getting back to Charlotta sound like a good idea.
The "errand" didn't take long, and Emrys swiftly moved back to the small apartment. He walked up to see the officer in the door frame. He gave a dark grin, showing off his fangs for all to see. His eyes locked with the older man's. Emrys' stance, confident, predatory, as if he had the world was in the palm of his hand "Don't say I never gave you anything." He said, with a suggestive wink.
He then moved past the man to Xantha. He posed himself behind the girl, wrapping his arms around her, as if to lean on her, though he held himself up. He was usre that the pose looked right, while not putting any weight or pressure on her or her stitched up side. He gave her neck a tempting kiss as he whispered. "Everything's been taken care of."
When it was time for the officer to head back to the station, he would find the man that they were looking for. The man would be dazed, with some of Xantha's blood on his cloths. His would be securely tied to the officers car, with a knot that was quite impossible to untie. All witnesses would claim that he did it to himself, though he had no memory of such event.

Xantha dug into a drawer and handed him a bundle of letters. He tucked it into his inner coat pocket so he wouldn’t forget about it. Likely he wouldn’t since this was an urgent matter to him but he was hesitant to tell Aimee. Zee was curious as to why Xen hadn’t talked to her, though he didn’t encourage it, ever, now that he thought about it. Maybe that was a mistake. Zee wondered if everything was his fault. Xantha told him that she insisted on paying postage, which wasn’t needed for owls but he nodded anyways, ”Sure.” He agreed in an easy going tone, expression softening. It wasn’t worth trying to explain, or looking any more like a looney to her.
Zee wasn’t expecting Xantha to tell her that she appreciated what he was doing for the neighbor girl, he nodded curtly. Gracious that she was gracious for that. He was trying. ”Absolutely. I will do what we can to help her if she will go through with it. There are programs she can join if she wishes to.” he told her, knowing it wasn’t always so simple on paper. People that lived in those situations would tend to cycle old habits, or it was just too difficult to get out of the system.
As he was about to say something else about the girl, the red eyed freak came back inside with a shit eating grin that sent a chill to his spine. He told Zee "Don't say I never gave you anything." Which caused him to cock his head to the side. That was suspicious. He was probably smoking something else outside because he was acting fucking weird. He then kissed Xantha’s neck and Zee was officially checked out. She was associating with a vampire…
His eyebrow furrowed at the young man, Well, I’ll leave you both be. Have a good night.” he said, starting for the door again.
Zee made it to the station shortly after where he found the dazed man tied to the cop car, blood stained t-shirt with holes draped on his back, talking complete nonsense. Surely, that wouldn’t be the last time he saw the red-eyed freak.

Her dad was finally a bit less of a pain. It seemed Emrys leaving made him a lot happier, which she hated. She'd rather have seen the reserve but now wasn't the time for that. Soon enough, hopefully. Yet it was comforting to know he was at least putting in a little bit of effort, even as she stalled for time so Emrys could do whatever the celebrity felt he needed to do. As long as she didn't know it was all fine by her. She couldn't hope that she was good enough at lying to her father to get away with more than she already had. She had a hunch that without Emrys he never would have believed her, though it was impossible to say and well, she didn't really want to know either. If Emrys kept his better judgement at bay that was currently welcome enough.
Emrys returned and wrapped his arms around her and she leaned her head against his chest, smiling as he kissed her neck. Everything had been taken care of, he said and she had no idea what he meant by it. All she knew was that she trusted him and she felt perfectly safe and content in his arms in that moment. Had he told her she was going to win the lottery tomorrow she would have believed him just as willingly, even though she knew it was impossible for him to know. Her father seemed a lot less happy, which was just as well to her. Still there was something in his face she didn't really like. It was as if he saw something that he was keeping from her, as usual. So much for bonding. Then he did what she'd wanted, he left. "Night." She muttered as he left, closing the door behind him and waiting with her ear pressed to it for a moment until she heard the faint sound of the front door of the building falling shut.
At that moment everything she'd been holding in came bubbling to the surface again and she weakly slumped against the door, tears shaping in her eyes much against her will. "You didn't give him reason to come back, right?" She asked Emrys in a small voice, as if terrified by the mere notion. She had seen the judgement in his eyes. She shook her head violently as she aggressively wiped the tears from her eyes. "Bastard said my sister goes to some weird as fuck school. No mail adress because they supposedly use owls to send post. No technology." She let out a highly frustrated grunt. "I can't believe he can't even be bothered to lie properly. Bastard." She said, weakly punching the frame of the door. Then she realised she was opening up to him, more so than she ever should have. He hadn't even known she had a sister until now. She weakly scrambled up, digging into her reserves and using her stubborn side as sheer willpower. She walked over to him then and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Forget I said any of that. Let's just get distracted for the night."

The man seemed hopelessly confused at Emrys' comment. His smile only grew, the man would see soon enough. Moving over to kiss Xantha's neck, in a way that he knew she liked, he couldn't help but look up at the man. Knowing that he had won something. It was obvious that Xantha's relationship with her father was strained, and he had made his relationship with the girl very clear. Emrys smiled victoriously as he felt her weight lean against his chest. He knew she wouldn't understand his cryptic words, and he never intended to explain them. He also knew that Xantha wouldn't ask. The man looked less pleased and the officer chose to leave.
Xantha moved to press her ear against the door, listening to the steps moving down the hall. He stayed silent, this wasn't the right time. She started to cry and he wasn't sure quite what to do. Emrys had never been too good with not so positive emotions. He moved the unused cigarette from his pocket back into the box. No reason to waste it. He dropped hos act that he was holding for the officer, and seemed to relax fully. "I'm confident that he wont be coming back for this case. Can't promise anything else. But I'm sure he'll be reaching out to Charlotta before he reaches back out to you." Charlotta was his manager, and the one whos name was on the card he had provided.
Then she mentioned something that sounded quite familiar. A school with no technology, that used owls to deliver post. That sounded and awful lot like Hogwarts. He gritted his teeth. Seemed the useless man had deprived his daughter of something that she had a right to know. Family of a muggleborn witch had the right to know about magic, that included the siblings. Though, he knew he couldn't say anything about it. It wasn't just that...She was opening up to him, and he wasn't quite sure what to do with it. Sure, they had gotten to know each other better, but they hadn't gotten this personal. He wasn't entirely sure what to do about it. He now knew significantly more about her family, than she knew about his. The only think she knew about his family, was that he was related to his manager.
Not sure what to do, it seemed as though she pulled herself out of it and moved to him. He welcomed her weight, and wrapped his arms around her waist, as if it was so natural. She insisted that he forget about it, and that the two get distracted. He knew exactly what that meant. He moved his hands down her body, pulling her up onto him as he pressed his lips onto hers. He pulled away, breathlessly speaking. "I promise I'll be gentile."
