My tolerance is going up And I'm getting numb to the feeling January 27, 2026 @emma Rhys was having a rough time. This entire month and even the previous had just been as much of an ordeal as that island had been. And now he felt there wasn’t even enough whiskey in the world to dull his senses enough for any peace. With the full moon in a few days, he had reluctantly stopped by the deftly named “Den of Wolves”. When Rhys had been younger, he had stayed here many times to endure painful transformations. Something they didn’t tell you when you graduated school was that Wolfsbane would no longer be free, but he would not risk transforming just anywhere. And then, while he got his footing with his newfound career and a steady paycheck, he could finally afford it, but he’d still come here at times. His purpose today was a bit different, he had been testing Aware Wolf for almost a year, but he wasn’t sure if he wanted to with this full moon. The side effect to his nightmares wasn’t as severe as before but sporadic, and with all that he had seen, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to risk it.
That being said, he didn’t want Sienna or Rob’s protests to him skipping this month, so he came back to where he knew he could faithfully secure the potion instead. Walking through the doors, he moved as an older man in a shabby coat walked by him and hurriedly out. While werewolves weren’t treated as they had been in the past, there was still shame for some to be one. Rhys could hardly escape it with his name, so he didn’t hide it when he walked in, but he did pause and remembered how he had been year about a year ago. Rhys approached the counter where a young woman stood, he didn’t recognize her, but he only paused as she was attractive and much better looking than the older woman that used to man this counter many years before. ”Hello.” Rhys mumbled. ”I need some Wolfsbane please.” He continued, reaching into his pocket for the coins needed. But while he waited, he couldn’t help but ask. ”Are you new here?” Not that Rhys was one for small talk, but it did stop a certain red-head from constantly popping into his thoughts.

Emma could live off the income she made as a jockey. Especially at the new stable. Hell, she could live off the money her parents had put aside for her, as they were exceptionally well off. In a nutshell? Emma didn't have to work here if she didn't want to. But, Emma was the sort of person that enjoyed work that could benefit another person. When she'd heard about Claustrum de Lupus she'd felt it would be a great place to spend some of her free time between races and practice. While attending Beauxbatons she'd known a few students that had been werewolves and in her studies she'd learned that it was a difficult affliction to deal with because of the discrimination and forced transformations. Knowing that there was a place that was designed to at least help with that? Well she'd applied immediately.
This was still her first week, so she still had quite a bit of training to do but it was the first day that she'd been trusted to run the front desk by herself. She'd just taken a reservation for one of the rooms for the upcoming full moon a few moments ago. The man in question looked like he'd had a very difficult life up until now, but he seemed grateful for the service the inn provided. She'd offered him a small smile before he left. As he was leaving another entered. Well, today was busy it seemed. She'd heard that the days leading up to a full moon were usually busier but since she'd only been working a week she hadn't experienced it herself yet. She'd also heard that the day of the full moon was always the most hectic, but that wasn't surprising.
This newcomer approached the counter and she immediately put on a small smile. She knew she wasn't the most outgoing person around, but she did her best when she was working the front desk. "oh, hello." she answered slowly, then nodded as she heard his question. "Yes, one moment." Wolfsbane potion. She'd been trained on how to sell those. She turned to unlock the cabinet behind the counter that held the potions as the man spoke again. He must be a regular. "Yes, I started this week. Do.. you come often?" She wasn't really sure what the best way to ask that question. Asking if he was a werewolf seemed inappropriate, but unless he was purchasing the potion for someone else that would be the only reason for his presence.

My tolerance is going up And I'm getting numb to the feeling January 27, 2026 @emma Nobody would ever deny that Rhys wasn’t blind or that he wasn’t easily distracted. And really, if she was the new innkeeper, he knew he’d find himself stopping by more often. While some of his friends like to comment on his lifestyle, he very much enjoyed himself, even in his slightly foul mood. The woman turned and retrieved the potion from a cabinet behind her. Rhys was familiar with that part, and any werewolf that stayed here more than once would be as well. It was kept under lock and key since. Unfortunately, some werewolves couldn’t always afford it, and theft was an issue. When she turned back around, she asked if Rhys was a regular and he half shrugged and nodded.
”Sometimes.” He responded simply. He supposed on any typical day, he would have taken the potion and just gone about his day. Still, some part of him was desperate for a distraction—even if it was small talk and conversation he usually avoided. Why did these thoughts bother him so much? Rhys didn’t know, but he didn’t want to feel the emotions that went along with them either. ”I—erm—was part of a Potion trial for werewolves, but not this month.” Well that was half true, he was just skipping this month per his own decision. ”I could tell you about it sometime if you’re interested.” The last part was a risk, or maybe his brain thought he was at a pub on a Friday night, but again, he just didn’t want to think.

Emma grabbed the potion and turned back to the patron. She started to process the order, tracking that she'd sold a Wolfsbane potion. It was necessary so they knew how much was in stock. As he answered she glanced up at him, then back down at her work. Sometimes? He must be one of those that took the potion regularly so they were able to safely transform where ever they were. Some still chose to stay at the inn on the full moon, however. Or so she'd been told. She was rather curious about how work would go on the day, and it was fast approaching. "So one wolfsbane potion is 10 sickles," she finally stated, setting the potion on the counter for him as she could see he'd already pulled out the necessary coins. That alone confirmed that he was regular enough to know their prices.
Though, he went on to explain and she was surprised. A potion trial? She hadn't heard of one, though that was no surprise since she was so new to this line of work. "Really?" Before she could ask too many questions about it though, even more so to her surprise, he'd offered to tell her more sometime. Being a well socialized child though she knew that he wasn't actually saying "I'll tell you about it sometime", but in fact "I'll tell you about it somewhere else".
Emma didn't respond immediately, mulling over the words. She did want to get to know the area better... and she needed to get to know the people. Finally though she smiled and held out her hand. "I'm Emma," she introduced herself. Not exactly an answer, as he might have been expecting. "If you don't mind my poor English, I would like that." she finally answered.
(I don't actually know how much the potion would cost... I just picked a random number haha.)

My tolerance is going up And I'm getting numb to the feeling January 27, 2026 @emma When she’d placed the potion on the countertop, Rhys had already dug into his pockets for the required coins. Even if he didn’t regularly take Wolfsbane, the cost had been seared into his brain. Plus, it always stuck out to him when he’d travel, and the potion cost more in some places. It could have been because of ingredient availability or even just finding a Potioneer to brew it properly. But he’d only run into that issue when he was working in a place where it might be scarce. Fortunately, it didn’t happen often, but Rhys’ paranoia about transforming and possible consequences never entirely left his mind.
There was a genuine look of surprise on her face, but then again, any mention of Aware Wolf in the paper hadn’t exactly been front-page news. But the mention had still been something exciting. Rhys didn’t expect a lot of people to know about it that wasn’t directly involved. Rhys’ siblings were in the loop as Max was curious about it, and Dahlia had declined to participate in a rather brash manner. But he hadn’t expected anything less. Still, she didn’t immediately accept his invitation, not that Rhys was discouraged. Despite what Renfri and others might think, there did exist moments where he was told to go away or his advances politely declined. And whether he was sober or intoxicated, he wasn’t the type to push the issue.
Finally, she stuck her hand out along with her name, and Rhys shook her hand. ”Rhys. Rhys Greyback.” Internally, he did kick himself slightly. It was a habit to include his last name, especially when it came to work, but he figured he might as well get that out of the way. Unfortunately, his name was not something he could so easily escape. ”There’s a few pubs nearby. Do you have a preference?” And really, he just hoped she didn’t say The Violet Hound or his awkwardness would completely take over.

Emma hadn't expected the day to go the way it was but it wasn't bad. She literally knew nothing of this stranger, aside form the fact that he must be a werewolf since he'd been doing a potion trial for werewolves. WEll, that and he was good looking. Seemed to be a bit on the reserved side. Though first impressions weren't always right about a person. At least it was well enough that she was sure he wasn't a bad guy. He seemed receptive enough as he returned her greeting and offered his own name. Greyback. She knew that name. She'd heard it in history classes at Beauxbatons, and then she'd also heard it often enough in her first week at the inn. IT seemed to be too great a coincidence for there not to be some relation to Fenrir Greyback, but thankfully she was too polite to mention or ask. Instead, she just smiled.
As he asked about a pub she thought. She didn't really know the area well enough to even begin to know any of the names of the pubs, to be honest. She remembered the Leaky Cauldron, but that was only because she'd stayed there a short time before moving into her own flat. So, she shook her head. "I do not know the area well," she answered honestly. "I only moved here in December."

My tolerance is going up And I'm getting numb to the feeling January 27, 2026 @emma Emma didn’t comment on his name, but he didn’t doubt she recognized it. The girl was pretty, which was a nice distraction from his current thoughts. Rhys had resolved to push that out of his mind not because Vasilia wasn’t a lovely girl or wasn’t beautiful, but he didn't need to get his hopes up on something that would never happen. He was just her older brother’s friend and a man who probably spent too much time in pubs for one reason or another. Emma explained that she had not lived here long, though he hadn’t stopped by this place in quite some time, so he hadn’t had a good idea of how things had changed.
The first pub that came to mind was the Violet Hound, of course, but he skipped it in his mind. ”The Fountain of Fair Fortune is nearby.” Rhys suggested, trying his best not to look so serious. His resting expression worked well to keep his trainees in line but wasn’t much for a social setting. Rhys hadn’t noted anyone walking in or waiting, so if Emma allowed it, he figured he would linger a moment or two. ”Where are you from, Emma?”
