The most compelling thing about their partnership was that words weren’t always necessary. They worked intuitively together, and it was a sign of how well they meshed that Bianca didn’t need to tell him what she wanted. Whether they were in a dodgy bar, about to change the plan at a moment’s notice due to new circumstances, or whether they were across the room from each other at an Order meeting when their eyes would suddenly lock…well, Bianca didn’t consider herself an easy person to read. She wore a mask of stone most of the time, equally because of a lack of interest and an instinctual defense mechanism to create some distance from the rest of the world. But Cade had a knack for reading the signs, even the little ones she didn’t mean to show, and he was unnervingly talented at quickly adjusting and responding to her.
If she dug into that thought any deeper, she might be frustrated that he was so good at disarming her. Another encounter at the art gallery all over again, where he had managed to draw her into a conversation (and a profound one at that) despite her best efforts to pretend she wasn’t interested. But now? Bianca felt the exact moment he began to kiss her back, and she couldn’t get enough of him and the intoxicating feel of his lips on hers. He pulled her closer and Bianca eagerly followed, tracing her hands over the muscles of his shoulders before digging possessively into his back. There were so many reasons she had held herself back from him in the past – their opposing careers, their budding partnership in the Order and that constant drive she had to complete the mission at all costs…but Merlin, she didn’t care about any of that. She couldn’t think of anything that existed outside of this room, responsibilities or excuses or even the large crowd of students and professionals mingling outline right now. It was only Cade – and his warmth, and his hands on her hips, and the sudden desire that struck her to feel his skin on hers.
A noise of approval escaped her as Cade shrugged off his blazer, and Bianca ran her hands down his chest as she impatiently ripped through the buttons of his shirt, unwilling to break the distance between them for any less time than absolutely needed. They’d known each other for so long, but in the urgency of the moment Bianca felt like there wasn’t any time at all, and she wanted him now. “I think,” Bianca panted, catching at his lower lip playfully as she gazed up at him with a heated look, “we might have just ruined our friendship.” She gasped breathlessly as she felt the solid weight of her desk behind her, so absorbed in Cade that she hadn’t noticed the pair slowly backing up. Without a moment of hesitation, Bianca pulled herself up onto the edge of her desk and wound her legs around Cade’s hips, pulling him closer so she could kiss him deeply again. “Last chance to turn back,” she murmured in a low voice, feeling her heart pound and head spin at the close proximity to him. Even with her offer, there was nothing she wanted less, and Bianca bit her lip to hold back a groan as she let her eyes wander over the striking sight in front of her.
