January 2, 2026 It had been far too long since Tamatha had had a proper girls' night out. Honestly, she couldn't remember the last time that she had gotten dressed up like she was, in the sort of outfit that would have garnered her enough attention even without the added benefit of her half-Veela blood. She had her reasons for that, though, not the least of which was that she wasn't sure if she got the same kick out of it anymore that she used to. But it was still approaching her birthday, and one of her friends, Hazel, had insisted on going out somewhere to celebrate it together.
They had ended up at the casino, which—in all fairness—probably wasn't the worst place they could have gone. They weren't as likely to run into any kids her sister's age, for one, and it was a slightly more mature environment than, say, grinding back and forth against strangers at Club Indigo. The casino had some class, though Tamatha also wasn't about to risk a small fortune in Galleons by gambling her money away. She had more sense than that, though it was becoming increasingly apparent that there were plenty of men there who couldn't keep their eyes off of her.
"Mustache over there is still looking at me, right?" she checked with Hazel through gritted teeth, darting her eyes between her friend and the stranger a few paces away from the bar at which she and Hazel were standing in wait of their drinks. She wasn't sure if she was going to have to fake being unable to speak English, but the downside to that was that Hazel would be forced to keep up with that charade. Plus, there was a chance that could make her appear even more attractive, and that was the exact opposite of what she wanted. She really wasn't there to play with men, especially with how things were going with Alfie; she just wanted to enjoy herself a little.

2 January 2026 Hazel was determined to take advantage of every single second of the holiday break until it was time to return to Hogwarts. She hadn’t started designing her spring term classes yet – that would wait until the weekend before, most likely, or until Ivy got frustrated with waiting and sat Hazel down to think. Until then, she was cramming every little thing she loved to do but just couldn’t during the school year. Elaborate vacations with her sister, wild nights out with her friends, and the metal charming that was earning her a notorious name within certain underground circles. In short, the perfect holiday. It was Tamatha’s birthday soon, and Hazel had insisted on taking her friend out to celebrate the proper way. The half-veela had become a little more boring as of late, insisting on utterly mundane things like a relationship. The idea of being tethered to one person, forever, seemed like an utter nightmare to Hazel. Her mum had been insistent that she just choose a good pureblood husband and settle down, as if she wasn’t suggesting one of the most horrifying existences on earth. Like ew, what sort of man could be good enough for Hazel? Tamatha had thought the same way once, but she didn’t pursue much of what Hazel found interesting anymore. It was a shame, so she’d dragged Tamatha to the casino to remind her what she was missing out on. “Hmmm?” Hazel asked distractedly, busy ogling a man across the bar and wow, look at those broad shoulders. She shot him a flirty smile, but then looked over at Tamatha’s gritted comment. She glanced over the blonde’s shoulder and wrinkled her nose in disgust. “Ugh, gross. Curse him if he gets any closer,” she said lightly, flipping her hair over her shoulder and turning her attention back to her friend, dressed to the nines and matching the glitzy glamour of the casino. Hazel had worked at a similar casino once, although that had been years ago and she’d left after only a summer because it had just gotten so boring. Her gaze caught on a familiar sight. “Ooooh Tammy, let’s play some roulette!” Hazel suggested as she tapped her friend’s arm excitedly, forgetting about the gorgeous man she’d been eyeing or the drinks they were waiting for. That was Hazel, after all -- always distracted by whatever was glittering most brightly in the moment. @tamatha

January 2, 2026 With the next semester about to start at Hogwarts, Tamatha knew that Hazel had to make up for what free time she lacked during the school year. While Tamatha also knew that Hazel wasn't irresponsible, per se—because she was a teacher and knew better than that—it was interesting to her just how quickly Hazel could jump straight back into party mode. Tamatha had done some ill-advised things before, too, but it was difficult to put herself back in that same headspace. Even back when she had partied much harder, it had been a coping mechanism for a lot of other things, and she had to question how and if she had ever truly enjoyed it. Hearing Hazel's suggestion, then, that she should curse the mustached creep if he were to get any closer, Tamatha was tempted to take it. At the same time, she wasn't looking to get thrown out of the casino for assaulting anyone. As long as he didn't get any closer, then it would be alright. Luckily, it took Hazel no time at all to provide a distraction, tapping at her arm and ooh-ing over the thought of playing a game of roulette. Tamatha paused, wondering if Hazel preferred that to grabbing the drinks they'd been standing there waiting on, or if her friend's attention span was really that short. Tamatha supposed that she could make her Veela charm useful later if Hazel wanted another drink, but she didn't want to up and leave when the bartender had already gotten to work. "Okay, okay. One second," Tamatha laughed, glancing between the bar and the roulette table. "I'll grab our drinks if you want to go ahead?" she offered. Unless Hazel were to get distracted by something else, she would remain within view the whole time. Hazel Rosalie Burke
