Desi had heard about this Slug Club Christmas Party from Elaine. She wasn't actually a member of the Slug Club, not yet! She planned on attending the party, and if she got an invite afterwards she wouldn't be surprised. She wasn't that surprised at not getting an invitation to the club. She had only been at Hogwarts for three years and she hadn't taken Astronomy that entire time, so the Professor probably knew nothing about her. However, she still wanted to go to this party. Even though she had been of her game the last time she and Elias had talked, she was sure things would be back to normal now. So, she went ahead and invited him to the party herself! @crystal2 had technically invited Desi as her 'date', but Desi had cornered Elias earlier that day and practically told him he was coming. He seemed hesitant, but of course he agreed! Elaine would be meeting them at the party. So, here she was, stepping out of the Ravenclaw Common Room wearing Corial dress with gold lining, her hair curled and in a stylish up-do, and her heels higher than the castle towers. She surveyed Elias with classic elevator eyes before saying anything, and soon she was stepping in to kiss him on both cheeks, "you look fantastic!" She linked her arm through his and began pulling him up toward the astronomy tower. ----- When they arrived, Desirae proudly entered the room on Elias's arm, surveying the characters. She cocked an amused eyebrow as she saw Theo and Abby sitting together. She knew what those two had been up to, of course, and it was amusing to see Theo looking so dressed up. Granted, he looked pretty dang fine dressed like that. Desi gave him a little wave and a wink before turning up to Elias. "Where should we sit?"@mercy: (I love short posts XD)

Unsurprisingly, the party was formal, quiet, and boring. People sat around, talking and laughing, which was all well and good, and there was dancing going on, but the music was prim and proper, the talk animated but controlled. The whole thing lacked energy. Frankly, he was surprised Abby wasn’t vibrating in her seat next to him. Well, she was somewhat like him, and the daughter of the former Minister for Magic to boot. Something else they had in common—self-control when it was warranted. The twin had chosen not to sit with them, which Theo found odd. There was no opportunity for them to get physical here, in this clean, quiet party. What exactly did the Little Twin think she was interrupting? Meh, whatever. Perhaps she was just uncomfortable without a date of her own. Although if that were the case, she could have easily gotten a date. Theo shrugged it out of his mind, not particularly caring. Normally, he’d show a bit more interest in Joanna, simply because she was a twin, but in this case, he simply couldn’t find her as attractive as Abby was.
He let a smirk cross his face when Abby mentioned that there was plenty of reason for her to get to know the guys around the school. He stroked a finger softly along one of the marks on Abby’s shoulder. “You talk like I’m not the one you think of when you’re with the others. We both know that’s a lie, don’t we? Face it, Little Girl, nobody will compare to me because I don’t accept second place. You’ll be stuck comparing every one of them to me forever, and they’ll all fall short of the mark.” He said this with the confidence of a man stating a well-known fact that could not possibly be wrong. To be fair though, he hadn’t found any girls around here who could make his blood boil the same way as her. Not that it mattered, in the long run, nor did it stop him from any physical pursuits, but it had been a surprise to meet someone who was just like him. A pleasant surprise, at that—he would expect to clash violently with anyone who acted the same way he did.
At Abby’s next words about some of the boys around here being skilled duelists, Theo shook his head, the smirk fading away. “Maybe some of them could be. But in this school, you’re taught how to fight without really experiencing it. There’s no danger here, no threat of real pain or injury. The students here are cats without claws. No matter how suited to fighting they are, it’s useless as long as they’re just playing.” Theo sighed slightly, though his annoyance did not show on his face.
“The world is boring right now. There’s no chance of walking the razor’s edge of life and death in a duel. There’s always someone who wants you to stop, to do things civilized. Teachers, aurors, whoever. They don’t understand that combat is a part of life. It’s instinct. They want you to solve problems with words, when sometimes wands will resolve things so much faster, with better results.” Working out your aggression rather than burying it was healthy. Killing, Theo did not necessarily approve of or care to do. But actually fighting…
“You up for some fun during Christmas break, Little Girl? I have…an event to take part in, if you’re interested in joining me.”

Abbys eyes were on Theo as he stroked her shoulder and she tried to glare at his next comment, but she couldn't quite manage it. A smile appeared on her face and she bit her lip to stop from laughing. Of course he was right, but she wasn't going to admit to something like that. Well, at least not seriously. "Well, I'll at least give them a chance to place second,", she laughed, perhaps a little too loudly for a party of this nature. But laughter was something Abby rarely restrained, no matter the situation. People didn't laugh enough and what was worse, people didn't often get opportunities to do so. This was something that Abby wouldn't accept for herself, therefore, she laughed whenever she pleased and as loud as she pleased. Granted, she did understand the sense of propriety in some scenarios, being the daughter of a minister and all, but that didn't mean she always agreed to those rules.
She didn't like the idea of forever however. She didn't bring it up nor dwell on it, though, because she was sure Theo was just meaning it as a figure of speech. Or maybe he wasn't and he really believed she'd be comparing others to him forever, even when their paths eventually separated. She didn't like the fact that no one would be able to beat him, but she couldn't deny that it was probably true... granted, she was only seventeen years old and she hadn't even experienced everything there is to experience with a lover-or whatever you want to call her shenanigan partners.
Abby tilted her head to the side at his explanation as to his opinion on dueling within the school. It sounded as though he didn't think anyone would be able to face him because they didn't understand what it was really like. Did that mean Theo had been in life or death situations before? Abby didn't agree that the world was boring. Well, to an extent it was but if not boring meant that more people had to die then she didn't want that day to come. She understood what he meant about someone always trying to force you into civilization. This theory lined up with hers that maybe it'd be better to ditch society and just go live like animals. Sometimes she wanted to do that, but she just had far too much fun with her friends and whatnot that she couldn't do something like that. At least not for an extended period of time.
"Sometimes I'd just rather not deal with magic or people at all," she said, somewhat disagreeing with his words that wands solve problems. "Not that I'd want to deal with words instead," she added. "But if a fight must ensue I'd much rather it be a fight with wands then with words. Words are easier to lie with, if you're using your wand everything is honest," well, for the most part. It wasn't easy to lie in a duel because you just cast whatever spells you wanted to. She imagined it would be very hard to hide your intentions unless you just cast a bunch of sissy spells instead.
At the mention of some fun over Christmas break, Abby perked up a little, "as long as it isn't another fancy party, I'm all yours."

Carcer’s brain was still just a bit on the sluggish side when they got to the party. The place in his brain where his usual wit resided seemed to have been replaced by that first image of Alice showing up in a beautiful dress, blushing but looking happier than he’d seen her since she first rode Diana. This in itself made the whole night worth it, but Carcer knew that the smile was for him—that he’d put that smile on her face. And that somehow made it hard to concentrate on anything else. Luckily, the route to the party didn’t require much thinking—just straight up one flight of stairs, through a couple hidden passageways to bypass the moving staircases, and they were on the same floor as the Astronomy Tower. With their names checked off, the first of what part of Carcer’s mind knew to be several hurdles appeared: the door.
Carcer was not about to get on his hands and knees and crawl through in his dress robes. Luckily, he had an easy solution for that. The half-giant merely chose to morph into a half-giant flying squirrel, scurry through the doorway, and shift back to his normal form. Quick, easy, and without dirtying his robes. Once through, he smiled down at Alice, holding his hand open for her. They couldn’t link arms due to the differences in height, but holding hands was a bit easier to manage. He grinned and pointed at his sleeve, where a small, flesh-colored string blended against his skin perfectly. “Modified Extendable Ear, works both ways,” he whispered into the other end, at the collar of his robes. “This way we can gossip all quiet like, the same way everyone else is.”
That was two hurdles cleared. Now if only he had an answer for the dancing.

Several of the students were now arriving. Haymitch recognized many by name, greeting them as they came in. There was Andromeda Lestrange, who of course was not near her sister, the eldest Longbottom children, one of which was accompanied by the half-giant Carcer Hagrid. He recognized the Shacklebolt twins of course, the Gryffindor one with an unfamiliar boy... a few Weasley and Potter children, and then students who had actually proven by their intelligence that they belonged in such a club. Haymitch didn't let just anyone into the club. They had to have good grades, participation in a club or two, and good social standing. And as far as the Astronomy professor was concerned, most of these kids had great social standing just because of their last names.
As the traffic through the door began to slow, Haymitch flicked his wand at the large, round table in the middle of the room and dishes and glasses appeared on it. He then flicked his wand toward the record player and the music came to a stop. He stood behind his own chair at the table and put his arms up, welcomingly and gestured all of the students to gather round. "Alright," he called, happily (or as happy as Haymitch Aguillard could get.) "Everyone gather 'round the table and we can make introductions!" He watched as the students began to gather around him. He noticed that the eldest Potter boy had indeed showed with the eldest Lestrange and privately gestured him to sit directly to Haymitch's right. This was a pleasant surprise. He looked around at the other kids. "I don't recognize many of you, so we will be going around the table and introducing ourselves. Saying your names, houses, and any particular clubs you are in or hobbies, or whatever you feel comfortable sharing with us. Don't be shy!" His eyes fell over the Longbottom children, whom he knew to be particularly shy and gave them cocky, reassurring smiles. "Potter! Why don't you start us off?"

The Slug Club dinner party. It wasn't necessarily what Eris wanted to be doing that night, but she was highly honored by the invitation she had received. But she was more excited by the fact that she got to write an owl to her parents telling them that she was a member of one of the most exclusive, prestigious clubs at Hogwarts. If she had to go through a boring meeting every now and again to have that label, then fine. It was a small price, and one Eris was willing to pay.
In the grand scheme of things, however, it cost a little more than just boring diner parties for Eris. There couldn't be any more enlarging the teeth of second year's, and the gossip spreading would have to be minimal in order for Eris to avoid getting a bad rep in this new club. At least, the gossip spreading of club members.
Eris knew how formal this party was, and therefore she chose a floor length dress in a deep shade of green. The color was, of course, to represent her house, Slytherin. She hoped she could show off the good traits of Slytherin, like ambition and determination. She was like… the self-proclaimed mascot of Slytherin. Sort of.
Well, either way, Eris knew she was going to look nice at the dinner celebration. It was a bit uncomfortable now that she was sitting at the table, struggling to look professional as she listened to the astronomy professor's overly proper rambling. He didn't look particularly happy to be there, despite his cheerful words, so Eris slapped a regal smile onto her thin lips so she would not look like him. She hoped it was convincing enough as she looked in the direction of the Potter that Professor Aguillard had instructed.

tugging the tie that was around his neck a little albus started to make his way to the table to find a seat. he didn't see what the big deal about this club was. either you were rich, had good grades or your parents were worth a bit of gossip or had done something heroic. which was the only reason albus could think of as to why he'd gotten an invite. still, it was a night of music, good food and if he could find the right people to hang around with, good company. his brother was here somewhere, as were a few of his cousins. he wondered how many more of these sorts of dinners there would be before he graduated the school, hopefully not too many. he like his father, didn't really care for dressing up and looking proper.
moving to the table he pulled out a chair and dropped into it, glancing to the empty chair next to him and wondering for a moment who would fill it, and it he'd be able to stand their company. it wasn't like he went out of his way to find some people's company undesirable, but there were just people who grated him. he ran his hand over the back of his neck and leaned back into the chair as the professor began to speak. he couldn't help the quick smirk that slipped onto his face and the words that came out after it. "which potter sir? there is after all, more than one" he asked, leaning his arm on the table and glancing in the direction.

James never would have thought he would ever go to one of Professor Aguillard's prestigious parties, but as it were, he was here now and he was quite impressed. The Astronomy professor really knew how to throw a good party. If only he would change that awful music... something more upbeat maybe? James knew everyone there, of course. As he let Aurora lead him around (it was after all, her club,) James looked around the room to see if he could recognize anyone right off the bat. Phil was there, as was Aurora's younger sister whom James knew from Gryffindor house. Then there was Abby, of course... and that bloody Slytherin beater again. James shot him a glare from across the room. He was still very unforgiving for what he had done during the Quidditch match. However James didn't even know his name... He moved on, seeing his brother, a few cousins, and other Quidditch players. Then... Alice.
Alice? Alice had actually showed up to a school function? And she was in a dress? James's mouth fell open slightly in shock when his eyes looked Alice over. He always knew she had got a spot in the Slug Club, but... he never would have thought she would have shown up. And... was she with Carcer Hagrid? The look on James's face could only have been confusion as he automatically headed for a seat at the round table when Professor Aguillard spoke up. He hardly noticed Professor Aguillard motioning him to sit next to him, but he did so anyway but not before holding out Aurora's chair so she could sit down before him.
James smiled at Aurora as he sat down beside her between she and Aguillard and when Aguillard had finished speaking, his eyes found his brother. He smirked, enjoying the fact that his brother had spoken up. James jokingly and sarcastically put his elbows on the table and rested his chin in his hands, knowing full well how inappropriate this was for black tie events. He looked at his brother, playing along with his act. "Perhaps you better go first, Albus," he said mocking a polite tone. James kind of always thought these types of events were a joke, especially for students but as soon as he said it he glanced at Aurora, hoping she wasn't embarrassed or ashamed of his behavior.

Theodorus smirked at Abby's words. The idea of leaving people behind was appealing to him. Magic, however...well. He could do it, something that might surprise a lot of people given his family, but Theo liked power. And if there was one thing he would have seen eye-to-eye with the fallen Voldemort about, it was three little words: magic is might. But he raised no objections—how Abby felt was how she felt, and she wouldn't have her mind changed by anyone, much less him. He snickered at her last line though, a smug grin crossing his face. As though she wasn't his already and regardless. “I'll get you the date, place, and time when I know it.” He sighed in irritation when the professor called all the students to sit together...but then his eyes lit up. That was Aurora, and she was with...James Potter. James Potter, who'd ground his teeth so hard during the Quidditch match that Theo could practically hear it. “I do hope you won't take offense to me winding second place up into a public tantrum. Because I'm going to. This should be entertaining.” He stood up to follow the other students along with Abby, but deliberately slowed their pace so he could see where James and Aurora sat first.
Theo strolled up behind them, hiding away his amusement, his face returning to its usual neutral expression. James Potter hated to lose. Hated to think he was losing. And Theo had been part of a pretty major upset in a Quidditch game that had also seen his younger brother injured. First impressions being what they were, he couldn't like Theo. And if theo had his ire...why not really earn it. He stepped up behind Aurora and gently placed his hands on her shoulders. He leaned down so his head was between Aurora and James, close to the Ravenclaw girl's. Then he spoke to her—softly, but just loud enough to ensure that James heard him. “It's been a while, Rory. Still not wearing my engagement ring? One of these days, you're going to hurt my feelings, you know.” Then he stood up, took Abby's arm again, and walked off without so much as glancing at James.
It was too perfect. Theo had the kind of voice and tone that just sounded threatening. It had to do with his blood and upbringing. He was royalty. Beauty and power. Silk hiding steel. He had the good looks, but his voice held a great deal of confidence, authority, power, and his raw animal side. It made everything he said sound threatening, a trait his parents had nurtured. To James, what he'd said probably sounded like he intended to bring harm to Aurora somehow. But Aurora had known Theo since they were children. She knew he was only dangerous when he was grinning, when his voice was filled with excitement and energy. And what was more, she'd known that so long it probably wouldn't occur to her to explain it to James. James had heard a threat. Aurora had heard Theo make a joke about her hurting his feelings. Imagine how confused and angry he'd be if she grinned or laughed about it. After all—unless she had not given other reasons to him—Aurora had not fought their marriage contract because she honestly didn't mind Theo much. Probably because he had no interest in dictating her life. He pulled Abby's chair out for her and pushed it back in—always manners—and sat down beside her, still not even looking in the direction of Gryffindor's Seeker.
He did lean over to Abigail to whisper to her though—fully expecting that to bother him too. “Is he smoking out of his ears yet?”

In terms of deciding where to sit, the couple made there was over to a more abandoned side of the table, which was fairly close to the Professor as he was talking amongst students before getting up to make his announcement to start the party off Desi wasn't a member of the club, at least not yet, so she would let Elaine or Elias do the talking. For now, she was sitting still watching the people around her.
One of the main reasons Desi liked parties was the fact that she could sit in a room full of people and relish in the fact that she knew most of their secrets. She couldn't help but chuckle from across the room as she saw Theodorus addressing the oh-so-happy-couple. She had no idea what he was saying, but she was sure that she couldn't have tormented Potter herself. As much as she loved doing the torturing, it was also fun to watch someone else do an even better job!
Her eyes also fell on Andy Lestrange and her lover boy(s). The girl was planning to move in with Philips family and yet she was dating a muggleborn. The way the little blond lion pined after her was laughable, and she decided then and there that she would be messing with that trio this evening...

A Slug Club Event. Aurora was tired of events. She was no longer a Lestrange and yet, she was still involved with so much. Before being taken out, the brunette was involved with a ridiculous amount of clubs and classes, coming back, she quit most of them, except this was one club you were invited to would be an idiot to quit. The girl looked at herself in the mirror and sighed. At least James was attending with her. It was either him or Jo, but seeing as James and herself were becoming more and more public, it didn’t hurt going to him first and having an actual, real date. The girl left the safe walls of her dorm and met James, and left to arrive at the party. She was fine with following him around. He was the one that held the confidence and air Aurora did not. Except, he left Aurora to direct him around. The girl wanted to protest but knew herself not to be of such behavior. She accepted it, that and James hand, which was now folded within her’s.
Looking around, Aurora surprisingly knew many of the fces around the room. She grinned at Joanna already at the table. Her twin sister was there as well, and with her fiancé, oh boy. Aurora turned her attention somewhere else. Andy was here and Aurora sent a soft, warm smile her way. She was with a couple of guys. Next was James’ brother and a Weasley and a few others including Alice, someone who made Aurora feel incredibly small and insecure about herself. Aurora glanced at James staring at Alice and Carcer. The young woman quickly looked away and focused her attention on the Professor asking them all to come together. James ended up leading them to their seats. James acted like a gentleman and Aurora was no time in her seat, staring at her hands, being her usual public self.
It wasn’t long before Theo was next to her. The girl’s head popped up when he touched her and she smiled at him. He was a long time friend. They got along well, both accepting their roles in society and what was expected of either person. They blended well with each other and it was a reason they were put together in an engagement. “Feelings? That’s a good one.” She giggled. “It was an ugly ring by the way, Nott.” She teased before he walked away. The girl kept her smile and watched the Professor address the Potters. James purposely placed his elbows on the table. She was watched him for a moment. James Potter definitely had no place in Aurora’s past life, he was not fit to be a purist in any way. But that was what Aurora was attracted to. He was exciting and a breath of fresh air. He made her smile grow.
