Augusto's knuckles were cold from lack of circulation. He held both sides of the wash basin with a deathgrip. Only decades of practice at hiding his true emotions kept him from falling apart on the spot. One of the booths at the career fair elicited a very vivid memory of his youngest bouncing in her seat at the breakfast table last summer. She happily babbled on about the research initiatives the company was involved in. She was excited to see some representatives for them at the career fair the upcoming year. She was more prepared for seventh year and her future than any of her eight siblings before her.
And now she was gone.
He took several deep breaths and quickly flicked on the faucet when he heard the heavy door creaking open. "Heyo!" He cheerfully nodded and greeted the bloke rushing to the urinal. Gus finished washing his hands and returned to the fair. The moment was behind him now, but only just. It still lingered close, whispering sweet sorrows against the nape of his neck, threatening to break him apart once more. His eyes betrayed none of this as he scanned the crowd until he found the setup for magical law enforcement. He jogged on over and grasped one of the aurors in a tight hug.
"Si-Money! My main man! Ah ah. Ha, Ragh!" He let out a few playful grunts as he fake jabbed the rather stressed young man in the stomach. "Whoa, just kidding Mr. Auror please don't arrest me!" Simon's nostrils flared as the students he had been speaking with laughed at Augusto's antics. The dark circles beneath his eyes and the lack of sleep they indicated wouldn't let Simon use the energy it would take to scold a grown man. Instead he merely grumbled something about Augusto not being amusing before giving the kids some pamphlets and his card.
They left and Augusto leaned over to whisper "Didn't get enough sleep, dad." An affectionate tease about Augusto's first grandchild who was clearly not the quiet and demure angel that Simon had been.

19 March 2026 “I’m just, like, not sure the Ministry could handle me, ya know?” The seventh year laughed like he had just told the joke of the century, and Bianca stifled the urge to roll her eyes. 20 minutes. It had only been 20 minutes since the start of the career fair and she was ready to murder a student or commit suicide – whichever would remove her from this conversation fastest. The responsibility for the career fair changed every year, and it had been the Ministry’s turn to host this year. As the newest Department Head, Bianca had been given the wonderful responsibility of organizing the logistics. She’d delegated that quickly enough, but it still meant she needed to show up and chat politely with seventh years interested in joining the Auror or Hit Wizard programs. One more hour. It was all Bianca could guarantee before she would drive herself crazy here. One more hour and then she would make a graceful exit. Until then… “Seems like you shouldn’t apply, then,” she told the seventh year bluntly, her face an unreadable mask. Before he could reply, Bianca interrupted to add, “Thank you for your interest in Law Enforcement. I see someone calling me.” They were both blatant lies, but Bianca had already lost her patience for the conversation several minutes ago. With a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, she side-stepped the bewildered student and walked at a brisk pace back to the booth reserved for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. It was still early in the evening, so most of the Aurors and Hit Wizards hovered near the booth, chatting among themselves and the occasional student. Soon enough they would begin to disperse. In an effort to appear busy, and therefore avoid any further conversations, Bianca began to sharply organize the pamphlets on the table advertising different careers in the department. She didn’t raise her head until a small commotion caught her attention – along with several students who began to laugh. She turned, ready to reprimand whichever of her Aurors had caused it, but stopped short. It was only Augusto Mulciber with one of his children – although ‘only’ wasn’t the right word. She’d gone to school with two of his daughters – they’d absolutely hated each other – but one of his sons was an Auror and a good worker. Augusto himself was a big donor and therefore a popular name at the Ministry. Bianca had never quite mastered flattery, but she supposed the Minister would want her to take a stab at it. “I usually discourage ambushing my Aurors,” she remarked to Augusto as his son stepped away, “But I suppose I can make an exception now. The students seem to be doing enough of it tonight.”@augusto
