▲ March 12, 2026 Almost a month had passed since Rusti had first approached the door of Julia Zhou seeking assistance regarding her problem of becoming Isla MacKay. Since then, and Rusti’s decision to return to the island of Yrisle to try and reverse her body-swap with her mentor, everything had gone back to about as normal as she could have hoped. Isla had been returned as well, though she had a memory gap regarding everything according to the Healers that Rusti had pried information from. That was good for both of them considering the fact that she had been running around as the woman for an entire month acting like she had lost her mind. The others on their expedition had also been located a few days later and were suffering from similar memory issues. Rusti had no problem playing that game too, despite knowing everything that had happened since. The week since her discharge from St. Mungo’s had been spent trying to get her shop back in order and dodging reporters. The blinds on Forget-Me-Knot had been pulled all the way down since her return, and she even refused to leave for food. It was getting levitated over the back wall from an adjacent alleyway by a few friendlies. All she wanted was for everything to return back to the way it had been before her trip to the island but the tabloids were making that hard to do. Apparently they found it interesting that she was suddenly back, just like that. From what she recalled about their speed and efficiency of preparing her obituary, she wasn’t keen on giving them anything at this point. They had their chance to play nice, and they chose to write about her being dead and her parents. Finally there was a lull in the photographers and she managed a sneaky disapparate from her back patio area without any of them peering over the wall at her. That was her escape to visit Julia. If the florist business ever failed, she had a career in being a spy. Sneaking around in someone else’s body and then her disappearing act was pretty good of her. The door of the fortune teller’s flat loomed in front of her though. How did she even broach the situation? She was sure that Julia would have read the papers by now, as it had made front page again. But there was a difference between a dated photo that had been slapped into the Daily Prophet and what she looked like now. The one they had used for her obituary had been from at least fourth year. The one currently there was maybe sixth year at best. Slowly raising her fist up to the door, she let out a deep exhale that matched her previous arrival there, and knocked loudly. March 12, 2026
As each day of March passed, Xiulan tried to prepare herself to send off the letter that Aurelia Flint had prepared for her to send to her sister on her behalf if she didn't return from trying to recover her own body. She didn't want to have to do it, but it turned out that she didn't need to. Miraculously, Aurelia had not only returned from that awful island; she had also ended up in the newspaper because of it, clear confirmation that she wasn't dead. That letter didn't need to be sent after all, though Xiulan heard nothing from Aurelia since she had supposedly made it out alive. While Aurelia's previous appearance hadn't been that of an old woman, Xiulan had been given pause at the sight of her real appearance as shown in the paper. She was so young, and the photograph of her seemed even younger than the age that was given for her in writing. Either way, she was only twenty years old. At the knock at her door, Xiulan jumped slightly but immediately went to answer it. When she answered the door, she recognized that it was Aurelia Flint, slightly older than that photograph in the newspaper but still about ten years younger than she would have thought based on how she had looked before. "Aurelia?" Xiulan asked, taking in a sharp breath even though she already knew that it had to be her. She was alive. That was the most important thing, but she knew that it must have been even harder to go back. It had been nearly two weeks since she had left, though she didn't look as worse for the wear as Xiulan had expected. Her understanding, though, was that Aurelia had been hospitalized, so that probably explained it. aurelia edith flint

▲ Reunions were strange enough, especially after being assumed deceased, but she knew this one was going to easily be the strangest of them all. The fortune teller only knew her by her first name and physically as Isla. With the amount she had been hearing ‘Aurelia’ spoken by journalists as of late, it didn’t come to her as a shock when Julia opened the door and said it as well. The last time she had heard her first name used this much was probably when her mother last screamed at her over a misplaced school document or for tracking in dirt from the garden. Merlin if her mother had been alive to see all of this happen…Rusti would have been killed for real the second she came back from the island. That sort of thing simply wouldn’t have flown in the Flint mansion. Too much media attention for little to no good reason. All for the sake of researching flowers. She had a lot of time to think about all these what-ifs while getting checked out at the hospital for the last two weeks and could hear the screeches from her mother in the middle of the night sometimes. The way Julia said her name though, both when they first met and now, made it seem almost nice and acceptable. Prior to this, she probably would have only accepted it from her siblings, albeit in a joking manner. She nodded her head at the fortune teller, nervously chewing on her lower lip still from when she had knocked at the door. “Err…yeah,” she cracked a smile at the older woman. “I uhh…I go by my middle name actually. Rusti. Sorry I used my first name last time, I just figured it would be easier if you wanted to, you know, check the newspapers for that obituary they put up,” she continued, not sure if she actually owed an explanation or not. She most likely didn’t but felt obligated to say so anyways, feeling as if she had been lying before. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

March 12, 2026 The young woman standing opposite her chewed at her lip but smiled at her and confirmed that she was Aurelia—or legally she was, Xiulan soon found out. Aurelia said that she actually went by her middle name, Rusti. Hearing it spoken aloud, Xiulan thought that that was something of an unusual name. It was more masculine than she would have expected of Aurelia, though maybe that was part of it. Besides, Xiulan knew that she couldn't really judge her. She went by a name that, from an official standpoint, had nothing at all to do with her given name; "Julia" existed to make it easier on those who couldn't pronounce "Xiulan" properly.
"Sorry I used my first name last time," Rusti apologized to her. "I just figured it would be easier if you wanted to, you know, check the newspapers for that obituary they put up."
There was really no need for her to apologize for that. It was understandable that Rusti hadn't wanted to cause even more confusion about who she really was while she wasn't in the right body, Xiulan felt. Getting anyone to believe her story and that she was who she claimed to be must have been enough of a challenge without the name element added in. Xiulan smiled gently at Rusti, only able to imagine what it had been like for her. She was alive, and that was what mattered.
"I understand, Rusti," Xiulan reassured her about her name, mostly hoping that things had been alright for her with all of the sudden media attention. She felt lucky that she hadn't faced anything similar because of the very public display of her Inner Eye the previous summer, in hindsight, but Xiulan knew two things. The first was that that prophecy extended far beyond herself, and the second was that collapsing in the Ministry Atrium hardly compared to Rusti's ordeal. At the same time, Xiulan wanted neither to call too much attention to it all nor to downplay it too much. She had her own thoughts about how it must have been; Rusti was the one who had lived it. She already had the Daily Prophet fussing over her for the sensationalism of her story, but something in Xiulan doubted that Rusti wanted to be left alone without a single acknowledgement of what she'd endured.
Stepping back from the door so that Rusti could enter her flat, Xiulan focused on her for another moment. "I read that you've been in hospital," she added thoughtfully, though she didn't really place emphasis on it. Hospitalization wasn't really a positive thing, after all. "How are you feeling?"

▲ Hearing her name used – and not her actual name – was still taking some time to get used to. For an entire month she protested about not being Isla, and yet that was what she was called. And then upon ‘reappearing’, all the Ministry and Mungo’s employees wanted to do was call her Aurelia as well. Only her siblings had actually used Rusti over the last month. Even the annoying paparazzi were intent on calling her Aurelia and indignant at changing it to Rusti when she asked them too. That was basically the last straw with them, and she figured they’d disappear eventually. They had when her parents died though it took a little coaxing and a couple threats to get the more stubborn ones to go away. Having Julia immediately switch over to it was especially nice because she hadn’t even called her Isla during their initial meeting. She was the only one that actually believed her the whole time. She was invited inside and took the offer. Julia asked about the stay in the hospital, and she nodded her head slowly. “It was the same tests they did the first time. When I was in Isla’s body. I don’t think they really understand what happened yet and getting them to believe I was body swapped has been impossible.” One of the more intrigued nurses claimed that it sounded like a muggle movie she had seen once. Terrible Tuesday, or something like that? She had written it down for Rusti on a little slip of paper and she was still curious to check it out once she got a chance. Apparently two people changed bodies in it too. “But I feel fine. Glad to be in my own body, I guess,” she paused to think about it a little more before continuing, “I often times find my height to be jolting. I didn’t think a month of being shorter would do that, but it apparently does.” Especially in the store. Everything was sized accordingly for herself, and when she had managed to sneak in as Isla once, just trying to get over the back wall to the key stashed there had been impossible. That wouldn’t have been an issue for her in her own body at all. After stepping a few feet into the flat, she stopped to face Julia. There was a reason she had come here after all, aside from wanting to let the woman know that she was fine and ‘alive’ again. “Thank you for believing me even though it sounded crazy. No one else did, and I thought I was going to be stuck like that,” she sniffed, trying to keep the emotions at bay because she’d already been through multiple rounds of them over the past two months. It didn’t matter though, and she could feel the choke bubble out of her as she tried to stifle it. “Sorry,” she whispered as she wiped at her eyes with her sleeves. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

March 12, 2026 Given all that she had gone through, Rusti looked remarkably well, though Xiulan supposed that it must have been exhausting to deal with so many Healers over and over again. Something like what had happened to her had to be an occurrence that they would see only once in a lifetime, so that must have played a role in how she had been treated at St. Mungo's. She said that she felt fine; however, she did note that she found it "jolting" to be taller than she had been when she had swapped bodies with Isla.
It wasn't her comments about her height or what had happened to her at the hospital that caught Xiulan's attention, though. What did was how sincerely Rusti expressed her gratitude to her. "Thank you for believing me even though it sounded crazy," she said. "No one else did, and I thought I was going to be stuck like that." She began to get more emotional over it than she had been, and Xiulan shut the door gently behind Rusti so that they could carry on their conversation without anyone overhearing them.
She nodded as Rusti thanked her, and then she realized as Rusti apologized to her that she had started to cry. Xiulan waited as Rusti tried to dry her tears with her sleeve and then summoned over a box of tissues for her. Carefully, she held the box in one hand and set her free hand lightly against Rusti's back.
"You don't need to apologize for crying," she told her softly. It must have been frightening. Anyone would have been terrified by that, regardless of their age. Xiulan knew that she would have been, though perhaps it was because she had been through no shortage of unusual occurrences that she had been more willing to trust that Rusti's story was true. Plus, she knew that prophecies weren't to be taken lightly. "I'm relieved that you're alive and safe," she continued, "and back in your own body." It sounded strange to say that, but nothing about that situation was normal.

▲ Opening up and allowing her emotions to actually come out had taken a long time to achieve. Expedited by her tumultuous past few months, of course. Having spent the first seventeen years of her life knowing that any sign of disdain towards her parents would lead to horrible consequences, these sorts of things didn’t show themselves easily. She had thought she was emotionally stunted for the longest time, never reacting correctly to anything while in school. The quick deaths of her parents was definitely like getting thrust into the spotlight, though none of what happened then could be compared to what she had just gone through. Not knowing if she could go back to her body or the life she was finally free to live, had been horrid. The only option had been to return to the island and attempt to replicate what the fog had caused. Thankfully it worked. So that was why she still struggled with things like this. Apologizing for perfectly normal behaviors like crying, or letting her feelings out in a healthy manner. Her sister still struggled, though that was to be expected. While they had experienced the same childhood, how they were treated during that period of their lives had been vastly different. Taking a few tissues out of the box that had been summoned to where they were standing, Rusti blew her nose loudly. The fact that she still had tears to expend was sort of a shock. A lot had happened once Dusti had found out she was ‘back from the dead’. Getting her to understand that she had been here the whole time was going to take a bit still, but she knew with a bit of work she could convince her twin of it. And then there was talking to Isla about what had happened during that period of time. If anything, that was going to be more difficult. Rusti had spent most of the body swap in the older woman’s apartment, only going out to get food and other necessities. She hadn’t wanted to be responsible for mucking up any personal relationships. After another couple of hard nose blows and dabs at the salty streaks of tears on her cheeks, Rusti felt like everything had finally come out of her. “I’m never leaving Horizont Alley again,” she joked, one last exasperated sob at the end of it. A lot had happened in such a short amount of time. She knew she had to consider herself lucky with how it all turned out. “Getting my store back into order is going to be a good way to get back into everything. My sister tried her best to take care of the plants…but yeah…” At least she still had leftover inheritance money to get her stock back in supply. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

March 12, 2026 Xiulan couldn't really say that she had experience with helping anyone through seeming as though they had come back from the dead, as Rusti had, and she hoped that it was a situation that she would never encounter again. She knew that her not having known Rusti before her body swap to be incredulous about it must have helped, in a strange way. Knowing that Rusti was younger than she had assumed, however, made it harder to see how upset she was over what she had endured.
Waiting it out as Rusti cried, Xiulan understood what she meant when she said that she wouldn't be leaving Horizont Alley again after that. It would be hard, but Xiulan didn't want her to end up living as she did. The sob that Rusti let out despite her joking tone hurt to hear, but she appreciated that Rusti felt safe enough to open up to her.
It was her shop that she was most concerned about, Rusti explained. She needed to get things back in order there, even though she said that her sister had tried to take care of the plants.
Smiling as encouragingly as she could under the circumstances, Xiulan kept her hand against Rusti's back. "Would you like something to eat or drink before you go?" Xiulan checked with her. She knew that Rusti had a lot to do and to think about, but she also didn't mind giving her some time to relax just a little.

▲ On top of getting the shop back to the way it was supposed to be, she also had some serious dusting that needed to be done. Her flat that sat above the store, which seemed to be a common occurrence in a lot of Horizont Alley since her neighboring shopkeepers were also her actual neighbors too, had a window that had been cracked open slightly. An oversight that she had missed during her sort of break-in that she committed herself. While nothing had been damaged, the dust from the street and shop downstairs had found its way up there over the few months it had been abandoned and now looked like living quarters of the house elves that her parents used to have. Which meant horrid and basically unlivable. Nothing a few waves of her wand wouldn’t cure over the course of an afternoon of course. It was just another thing on the long list of things she had to do now that she was ‘alive’ again. On top of a few more…personal issues that had arisen during her time away. Family members that needed to do some explaining. Julia offered food or drink to her and Rusti waved it off. “Can I get a raincheck for that? I really would like to talk more though, just now is a little…hectic?” Being gone but not really being gone was something she was still trying to figure out how to explain to those that asked. Seeing as no one had believed her aside from Julia, Rusti was fairly certain that she’d never get through to some of her more stubborn personal contacts. Maybe it wasn’t even worth it. Getting the store back to the way it needed to be was her first order of business, and her recent headlines over the last few months were sure to draw curious customers. She could probably sell that in the Prophet as an advertisement or something. Take a page out of Blishwick’s book for a week or two. “Thank you, again. Truly,” she sniffed one last time, managing to contain it all on this go. “I’ll write about a time that will work best for me. Or if you’re in Horizont, I’ll just lock up for the day.” Was there really even a way to ever fully thank the woman for what she’d done? Just believing that such a thing was possible had been enough to push the gears into motion for Rusti. And it had worked when it felt like it really shouldn’t have. Thanking Julia once again, Rusti took her leave. [End Rusti] MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

March 12, 2026 Rusti declined her offer of something to eat or drink—at least for that occasion—because things were hectic for her. She wanted to be able to continue their conversation, she explained, just not at that particular time. Xiulan wasn't offended by that in the least. While she might not have been able to relate to every detail of what Rusti had been through (and was having to endure after the fact), she understood enough to know that she didn't need to put any more pressure on Rusti.
"That's perfectly fine," Xiulan confirmed with a nod.
After thanking her again, Rusti said that she would write to her with a time that would work best for her. "Or if you're in Horizont," she considered, "I'll just lock up for the day."
Even if going into Horizont Alley were an option for her, Xiulan didn't want to force Rusti to close her business just so that they could have a conversation with one another. "Write when you're able." She didn't want to seem disinterested, but chatting some more wasn't the most pressing thing in the world. Rusti had more important matters to attend to.
