remember how we used to party up all night? The Common Room was busier than usual. But not all that hectic. Students sat on the chairs and couches and conversed or discussed homework while others giggled in excitement for the following day’s Hogsmeade visit. Apparently, there was some sort of even at the new Blishwick Pizza Parlor. Ev hadn’t had a chance to ask Lulu about it, and she certainly wasn’t going anywhere near Jimmie to ask her about it. It wasn’t at the forefront of Ev’s mind. If anything, she was supposed to be working on this assignment for Arithmancy, but she couldn’t focus. Instead, she doodled in the margins next to the first and only paragraph she’d written so far. Taking different words or names that came to mind and translating letters into numbers, and adding them up.
Not that it mattered, she was just bored. It wasn’t as if she needed Arithmancy. She hardly had the grades to go into Cursebreaking, nor did she have any interest in Auror training. But the Professor made the class interesting, and he wasn’t as strict as some of the others, such as Professor Zabini. Ev put her quill down and looked at the crowd again. More students went up to the dorms as it was later in the evening and past dinner while others walked in. She recognized Nessa walking in, and as she passed by the corner of the room where she was working Ev spoke up. ”Heard you beat up Ollivander.” The word had spread like wildfire, and honestly—nobody had been surprised. If there was ever a housemate that most would happily trip to save their own skin, it was Gideon.

▲ One of the many things she disliked about Hogwarts was how the school went about assigning detentions. Nessa had quite a few over the years, some from tardiness and others from getting caught with a half-stamped out cigarette under her shoe during her second year, and the most frequent being due to her ‘volatile nature’. That was how it was described in the letter that the orphanage had handed to her as she climbed onto the Hogwarts Express for the first time. Of course she was going to open and read it, what eleven year old wouldn’t? Knowing that was how her caretakers viewed her at the age was an eye opener, despite not being completely out of the blue. And since then, the professors of Hogwarts had done their damn best to keep a careful watch on her for unruly actions. Sometimes she enjoyed pushing their buttons, but if they simply let her wallow in her own self-pity and teen angst, she knew that she would eventually get over it. They were only making things worse. Now, beating the ever living hell out of Gideon Ollivander, and getting a detention for it, was well deserved. Except for the part where Ollivander didn’t get one for instigating the whole thing. Zabini didn’t want to hear any of it though, and hadn’t come up with her detention until right after dinner today. Supposedly there was some stupid thing going on at Lulu’s uncle’s pizza parlor during the Hogsmeade trip tomorrow, and Zabini was requiring her to attend. So that she could ‘act like a normal human being, instead of a crazed Cornish pixie’. She was still mulling over whether that was an insult or not, and if it was, how she could get back at the professor for it. Ultimately it didn’t matter, as her thought process was interrupted as she was crossing through the common room and heading back towards her dorm. Of course it had to do with the fight, and it was coming from Evelyn. “Yeah,” Nessa said as she stopped and walked closer to her roommate. “He called me a bloody cow, so I corrected his vision a bit.” She always thought that the immediacy of a swift punch was more effective than a hex or jinx. And a mummy’s boy like Ollivander had probably never been beat in his life, so it worked out in her favor. He wouldn’t be making that mistake again if he wanted to keep his tongue in his mouth. remember how we used to party up all night? Nessa approached Evelyn, confirming what she had asked. Evy nodded her head, mainly in approval. Gideon was in the year below them but quite possibly the most annoying person in their house. It wasn’t as if he was some overeager fourth-year Hufflepuff trying to talk to the older students to which they could escape to Common Room. The boy walked around with his chest puffed out like some majestic hippogriff while really he was about as remarkable as a gnome. Still, Evy was surprised—Gideon must have had a reason for causing such a commotion. It wasn’t as if Nessa was known to be a pushover.
”He lose a bet or something?” It was also just not a rather intelligent thing to say to anyone, really. Evy supposed Professor Zabini must have rolled his eyes at the sheer idiocy of it all. ”What did Zabini give you?” Detention, obviously, but she knew her Head of House hardly tolerated behavior that made Slytherin look bad—let alone internal conflicts. Ev considered herself about as sociable as a Slytherin could get, though she’d grown more reserved since her brother died. Still, she hardly limited her interactions unless she really didn’t feel like it. Nessa had been her dormmate since they were both sorted into Slytherin. It hardly made them best friends. Plus, she preferred hanging out with Luna or interrupting Nate’s solo game of chess. ”I can’t imagine having to serve Detention with him after that.” That was a punishment in itself.

▲ Merlin she wished the fight had been a bet. Hell, she would have had no problem orchestrating it all herself if it meant she could make a couple galleons out of it. Getting an illegal fight club going inside Hogwarts would be the fastest way to a quick buck and an expulsion though. But getting both from beating up Ollivander? Totally worth it. Hindsight was twenty-twenty of course, and now she wished she had shaken him down a bit. Probably still could and make him piss his pants at the same time with another open ended threat. She knew he had money. “He’s stupid. Can’t keep his mouth shut even when his nose is broken,” Nessa shrugged. It had certainly scared a lot of the younger students away from her, which was nice. Too often they approached her without knowing that she hated that, asking for help on work. Unless the kid was from the orphanage, she wasn’t going to waste her time with them. Punching Gideon a few times fixed more than just his attitude and face, and she wasn’t going to argue about how nice that was. Evelyn asked about the detention, probably having seen the minor show that went on at dinner earlier. Nessa shrugged again in her indifference about the whole thing, “Just one detention. Have to go to some event being held this weekend at Blishwick’s restaurant.” There couldn’t be a better detention for her considering her already existing relationship with the businessman. Zabini obviously didn’t know that she and Nate had lived with him and Jimmie Blishwick over the summer, and if he did it was an extremely poor selection for a detention. Acting out in front of the Blishwick family members still in school and around the pizza parlor was the last thing she was going to do. So unless Zabini was pulling some kind of two-hundred IQ move here by putting her in a situation where she absolutely couldn’t be her normal angsty, angry self, it seemed more like it was forcing her to attend something she was already going to go to. “It’s not the worst. Once he’s done being condescending about whatever, he quietly does paperwork,” Nessa explained their Head of House’s normal behavior in the detentions she’d had with him before. The first time the silence almost drove her crazy. She soon realized that was the whole purpose for it, and it was sort of like being put in time-out when she was younger at the orphanage. Corner in the chair to reflect on why she punched Lance Linley in the face over a book he was reading that she had zero interest in. Probably because she wanted to see him cry. He never did. Reflecting on her actions now was sort of useless, only because she was acutely aware of what and why she was doing it. Punching Ollivander when he called her a blood cow was absolutely a conscience decision and she’d do it again if he ever regrew a pair to try and get back at her. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

remember how we used to party up all night? Evy couldn’t understand Gideon Ollivander’s motivation. He was undeniably a pompous prat—well on that thought, then she could understand. But kids like Ollivander never picked on anyone their own size. Why go for a target that would absolutely do something. She wondered if his ego could handle such a metaphorical or physical hit. It was inversely proportional to his height, much like to small dogs Evy saw some women with. Barking at all the strangers and yet unable to walk on their own as they yapped from the safety of a purse. ”You probably offended him by sitting in his favorite chair or something.” It was an assumption. Evy didn’t know Gideon all that well on purpose.
But it was an exciting thing to hear about, and at least these petty scandals were not the life-threatening events of the past few years. Otherwise, Evy’s life was pretty routine these days, minus whenever Jimmie would find her and drag her to an impromptu meeting for the school paper or Nate taking her to some deserted hallway to teach her how to pick a lock. Nessa mentioned her punishment by speaking of Jimmie, and a look of realization came over her face. ”I forgot about that. Explains why Jimmie was so mad the other day.” Evy paused and realized she needed some context. ”This gang of third years asked her about the “pizza thing”.” The look Jimmie had shot them had them looking like they’d just come face to face with a boggart unprepared, and they’d backed away. Evy didn’t find Jimmie scary, more bossy than anything.
Evy raised an eyebrow just slightly, a bit confused. ”I don’t see how that’s a punishment.” Unless Professor Zabini secretly was happy Gideon had gotten punched in the face. But that didn’t seem likely either.

▲ Nessa almost wished that it was because she had taken the wrong seat in the Great Hall. That was actually worth punching someone over, especially Ollivander. But no, it had to be because she was walking too slowly up the crowded stairs. The beat down that followed would hopefully keep him in his place moving forward. If he went blubbering off to his mummy, then it would become a real problem. She sort of doubted he would after how embarrassing it already was for him, but there was always the chance that she could get in further trouble if she pushed for more of a punishment. Only one more year of this and then she could finally bounce. It couldn’t come any faster. “Jimmie is always mad,” Nessa stated, her nose scrunching up at the mere thought of the Blishwick girl being anything other than that. It was like she thrived on being tormented by her father’s business decisions but also not wanting anything to do with him at the same time. The entire summer had been spent watching that unfold, Jimbo Blishwick bouncing along like it didn’t even faze him. Nessa was fairly certain that she would never be able to keep herself running on being angry about matchmaking in the same way that Jimmie did. Upset about other things though? Absolutely. There was an infinite source of people to be pissed off about. Jimbo Blishwick was not one of them, and she really didn’t understand what faults Jimmie found in her father. He was basically a saint, and Nessa never said that about anyone. “I bet she’d get flustered if her shoes weren’t perfectly polished,” she added, knowing full well that something like that would probably be a world-ending event for the Blishwick girl. She absolutely agreed with Evelyn about her ‘detention’. It was incredibly light, though she had been wondering if it was more because Zabini didn’t want to deal with her because that meant he would have to oversee an official punishment. “It isn’t, as far as I can tell. Doubt that means I’ll get off as easily the next time I punch Ollivander,” she shrugged. That would absolutely be pushing her luck. Now as for blackmail? She could probably get away with that for a little while. He already knew what it felt like to get beat-up. The mere threat of more could get her all sorts of things if she really wanted to do that… MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

remember how we used to party up all night? While Evy was proud to be in Slytherin house, there was a downside. One could feel the sense of entitlement in the air when you walked into the Common Room. At first, one might mistake it for the chilly dungeon air, but it was definitely not that. Slytherins demanded, passed judgment, and carefully navigated their way through life in their individual ways for their individual goals. Everybody was a stepping stone or some kind of crutch to move you forward. Ollivander was no different in that sense. However, he was much louder about it. Evy supposed she might be as loud as he was if her mother had put her on an eight-foot pedestal rather than four feet to match his height.
Evy gave a slight shrug in agreement. That was a true statement. Jimmie Blishwick might as well have been a train. Though the speed at which she had turned to yell at those third years was fast enough to compete with the Knight Bus. ”She does.” Evy confirmed with a lazy tone, her gaze scanning the Common Room. It wasn’t as full as it usually was at this hour. ”She bullied this tall Hufflepuff boy into taking pictures for the paper, and he stepped on her shoes once.” Evy paused, remembering how hard she had to work to stifle her laughter at the time. That poor kid, who’s name escaped Evy at the moment, was at least twice Jimmie’s height and yet had shrunk down so easily in fear.
”I can’t imagine sitting in class with Ollivander. I wonder if he annoys the Professor.” Maybe Professor Zabini was thankful someone had knocked down the kid a few notches. Or at least it was a lesson for those that opened their mouth just a bit too much. But it was strange to think of their Head of House as the type to give a lenient punishment, but Evy couldn’t think of another angle.

▲ Nessa mentally cursed her past self out for not taking a fistful of steel wool to Blishwick's brogues on the sly over the summer. She probably still could if she managed to bully her way into the Gryffindor common room and then into the girl's dorm room. They probably stuck out there, amongst the clutter caused by Potter and Goyle. The former was the type that Nessa tried to avoid as best as possible. Becoming fancied by a wildcard like Potter was essentially inviting unwanted trouble and like having a target of unnecessary touching permanently glued to her. She'd seen the madness caused and it made her little fight seem like nothing. Getting away with property damage inside that dorm would be a cake walk if she really wanted to go through with it. Merely imagining how she'd be watching the fallout from across the Great Hall during breakfast made her want to do it. "Well, if you add the length of the stick up her ass onto her height, she's definitely taller," Nessa responded nonchalantly. She hadn't heard about this before, but it wasn't like Hufflepuffs were the hardest individuals to steamroll into making them do what you wanted. Forcing a badger to crawl into the kitchens to steal cookies after dinner was one of her favorite past times, even though she was fully capable of doing it herself. "He probably deserved it," she mused. "Jimmie is the definition of all bark and no bite. I'd wager she's got veneers. No way you get teeth that white otherwise." Nessa knew for a fact that the Blishwick girl didn't, as that definitely wouldn't have gone unnoticed after living with her for the summer. A little rumor or two here or there never hurt anyone though. The more baseless the better too. Side comments like this got the brain juices working and other students asking questions. Maybe it would even snowball into a classic example of telephone. Those were her favorites. Ollivander was a different story though. The kid (now with a rearranged nose) had the balls to stand up to her, as stupid as that had been. Probably couldn't say the same about any of the Hufflepuffs that Blishwick was pushing around. She could reevaluate that once she knew who it was though. Evy didn't seem to know. "You buy your wand from his mum's shop? I can see where he gets it from," Nessa commented. The woman didn't like people perusing, and whenever Nessa wandered into the wand shop she was watched the entire time. The same couldn't be said about the other one in Horizont. That was newer, and it's proximity to Blishwick's had led her to dropping in a few times. That shopkeeper barely cared about Nessa pushing the limits of the supposed self-rocking rocking chairs. None had broke, so apparently it was all good. "Fucking rich pricks, the lot of them," she added for good measure. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

remember how we used to party up all night? Evy still slightly regretted the day that she hadn’t noticed Jimmie reading over her shoulder in the library and then demanding she write for the school paper. The last thing Evy wanted was more work on top of her homework, especially when it was a hobby. She wouldn’t admit out loud that she enjoyed writing as much as she did. Maybe it only annoyed her because it wasn’t on her own terms anymore. And that began her friendship or whatever that was with Jimmie Blishwick. She ran the operation with an iron fist, not that it ever stopped Evy for the occasional eye roll or sarcastic comment.
She chuckled a bit. Wouldn’t that be a funny sight? A stick to explain the rigidity of one’s posture, it was a wonder she wasn’t in Slytherin. ”Can you imagine if she was taller and could actually hover over us?" That was probably her dream, not that she didn’t already act seven feet tall. But she shrugged, she didn’t know the Hufflepuff well aside from seeing him around the Castle, and she knew he played on the team. ”Well her dad can afford them. I imagine Blishwick’s name on everything has its benefits.” Evy wasn’t bitter, but she’d grown up sharing rooms at home as well as Hogwarts. Her parents gave them everything they ever needed, which was something to be grateful for, but Evy wasn’t getting veneers anytime soon.
”The Hufflepuff’s harmless, I forget his name—he’s always with Slater and her friends, though. Plays on their House team.” Not that Evy would have noticed if it wasn’t for going to watch Luna play on Slytherin’s team. Otherwise, she probably wouldn’t drag herself out to sit in the cold and watch them play for hours. After Dakoda died, she’d almost completely lost interest in the sport. At least most Hufflepuffs knew when to keep their mouths shut, unlike Gideon. Slytherin pride wasn’t pretty when matched against another. ”Didn’t we all?” She looked sideways at Nessa, there was a newer wand shop in Horizont Alley, but her wand was working just fine. Again, another famous name branded on everything probably brought in a lot of gold. ”You think they’re all as confident as Gideon?” Confident, arrogant, walking through life as if they could do no wrong because they had all that gold. Must be nice.

▲ "Then she'd have an even bigger stick up her backside," Nessa pointed out. The opening of the pizza parlor in Hogsmeade had definitely made the Blishwick expansion become a reality. The man had been musing about it offhandedly all summer while she had been helping him out at his matchmaking business, so it only made sense that this was the next step. Nessa hadn't had the chance to check on Jimmie to see what her opinion was on her father's newest business venture. It certainly seemed like Jimbo's face was plastered everywhere these days. The only time Nessa could recall that happening with anyone else, with her limited knowledge, was when people were running for Minister. Maybe that was his end goal? She doubted Jimbo could find the time to run a matchmaking business, a brand new restaurant, and the Ministry of Magic all at the same time, but he was optimistic enough to be sort of stupid to at least give it a shot. If anything, more rotations of his name in the Daily Prophet or on WitchTV would just generate business for him. Nessa had to shake her head to get rid of that thought the second it popped into it. Merlin, one summer around him and she was still thinking of the business potential something like that. All she was good at was punching younger students and scowling. Nessa didn't really care much about who the Hufflepuff was, nor about anyone that hung out with Slater. That group had every sign of looking a clique straight out of a subpar teen drama television show. Drama for the sake of drama and acting like they run the school. Half of them probably had daddy issues too. Thank Merlin she didn't have to worry about that sort of thing. It was nice not knowing. When it came to her comment on the wand, Nessa realized that she was probably in the minority there. As a matter of fact, no, she hadn't gotten hers at Ollivanders. "Got mine from one of the cheaper places," she explained, before continuing, "Orphanage can't pay full price for all of their strays." It didn't help that there were quite a few of them that had slipped through the adoption cracks: herself, Nate, and the Linleys. Too old to be wanted, too annoying to be kept. Four wands and supplies across two years and any other kid still in the system added up. She'd never cared where her wand came from. It was probably still an Ollivander that had been turned over to the other shop. Wasn't like she was missing out there. "I assume so. Fuller the Gringotts vault, bigger the asshole." She was sure that somewhere in there it came down to how they were raised too. Jimbo was a nice enough guy, but his daughter was snobby and entitled. Gideon was worse on all fronts though. At least Jimmie would probably shut up if she got punched in the face. She wouldn't want to get blood on whatever name brand t-shirt she was wearing. The Ollivander kid didn't know his boundaries. Now he did. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

remember how we used to party up all night? Evelyn could hardly imagine Jimmie Blishwick acting even more draconian than she already did. Evy was amused for a moment. Was she some kind of heiress now technically? Her whole life was set now, and not even a worry about money or anything of that sort. What an easy life that must have been. At least one could hide from her in the Common Room, though her cousin was a classmate of Evy and Nessa’s—but far less intense than Jimmie was. And honestly, Evy would probably have only ever known Lulu if it wasn’t for Jimmie’s lack of boundaries and intrusion into her personal space one day as she read Evy’s writing over her shoulder and volunteered her for the paper.
That Hufflepuff had probably done the same with his photography, but he also was about as harmless as a Pygmy Puff. In contrast to the Gryffindor, he was always with. She was loud and dragged him around with Slater. Poor kid couldn’t catch a break with bossy women. Evy was used to watching people, she didn’t speak to many, and when Luna or Nate wasn’t around, she kept to herself in the Common Room. She’d seen them. They were hard to miss—just like some other students she watched permanently attached at the hip.
Sometimes Evy forgot that Nessa was an orphan—quite literally the opposite of her own situation. Evy had more siblings than most, but as the youngest, she simply trailed behind all of them in every way possible. But, she’d still gotten her wand and things from Ollivander's. Her father’s Ministry job helped provide the basics of what they needed and not much more than that, but nothing to complain about. Evy shook her head slightly, a bit lost in thought. ”Hogwarts is half heirs and heiress, and then there’s the rest of us.” Each house was sprinkled with the crown princes and princesses of the Wizarding World while the rest tried to keep up. Gideon Ollivander certainly fit the stereotype.
Evy opened her mouth to comment on another heiress but glanced at her watch—”Shit—Selwyn is going to give me detention if I’m late again.” Evy let out an annoyed sigh, the last time she’d been late to History of Magic had actually been Nate’s fault, but this time it was purely her own. ”Your detention is better than whatever i'm going to get. See ya.” Evy said to Nessa as she grabbed her bag and walked out, there was no way Professor Selwyn would tell her to go to a pizza event as a punishment.

▲ The fact that she knew Evy wasn’t embellishing the bit about how rich some of the other students was sort of crazy when she thought about it. Adding in the American students? There were the ones all named after the days of the week, and they maybe had more money than even some of the wealthiest Hogwarts students. All of it made her feel sick because she literally had nothing. Even if she had never been abandoned, she probably would have still been dirt poor. She remembered very little these days about the time she actually spent with her mother, if the woman could even be called that to begin with. Nessa hated her for not truly giving her a chance. Especially after seeing other muggleborn kids at Hogwarts, whose parents had to overcome the exact same things her own mother would have done, had she decided not to get rid of her only child. She wouldn’t be surprised if there was an entire family of half-siblings out there now. Just thinking about it made her angry, and she wasn’t in the mood for those sorts of thoughts right now. Their conversation had started to dwindle a bit with their unified bitching about rich kids, enough that Evy realized she had to go off to class. Nessa shrugged at the mention of detentions, because she almost always had one these days. The best was when two professors accidentally stacked them. Zabini’s newest one was certainly an odd one, but she wasn’t going to complain too much about. Or else he’d find something more suitable for her. “Good luck not falling asleep,” she called after her housemate as she took off. History of Magic was a total snooze fest, even with a competent professor for once. That and it was always ungodly warm in the classroom. That never helped.
