TW/CW: Loss of a child, bereavement
May 22, 2026
That Cas hadn't been in touch with Harry yet made Parvati feel better about her own lack of contact with him. Knowing that she had a valid excuse didn't keep her from feeling guilty. From what she could tell by Cas's tone, though, there was a hint of something else, too. It wasn't guilt, exactly, but there was a sense of melancholy. He said that he owed Harry an explanation, but Parvati didn't need him to elaborate. She knew that Cas put up walls to avoid getting too attached to anyone or anything, which she couldn't ever imagine herself doing.
Cas sighed and set his cup down. "I might be abroad for a while," he said. The news was sudden, but Cas already sounded far away. "It'll be hard to reach me."
Parvati didn't know what he had planned, but she didn't completely like the sound of it. There was nothing that she could do to stop him, but it reinforced that he needed to be safe. If going somewhere that he couldn't divulge to her would keep him from ending up dead, then that was more important. Cas would find a way to get in touch with her if he needed to contact her.
"Thank you… for telling me," Parvati swallowed. She knew that it would worry her if she were to write to him and not hear back for an extended period of time, so at least that would save her some stress. "I-I know you didn't have to…" she clarified. He could have just gone on his merry way and done whatever he wanted or needed to do without informing her about any of it. As much as Cas obviously wanted to push himself away and as much as Parvati didn't want to make it harder on him to put the Order of the Phoenix behind him, she felt compelled to remind him that she cared. "I-I'm really sorry I'm not… in a state to have, you know, a proper conversation about everything when I can't even process it…" She reached out again to hug him slightly—not as tightly as she wanted to hug him—while blinking away tears. "But it means so much to me that you came here, at least, to—to say goodbye."
