”I believe in you, Luna.” Simon smiled, quite liking the idea of her having a shot to be team captain. If not of the Bats, easily another talented team. Matching her gaze was easy as she looked into his eyes, which conveyed more than words could fathom. After the traumatic moment on the pitch earlier, he was feeling grateful, and a bit sentiment. He was relieved that she was okay. Simon appreciated that his friendship with Luna was easy most days. He didn’t feel like he had to fake anything around her and they could both be unapologetically their true forms. It was nice to feel like someone had his back when he felt far from home.
As much as he enjoyed kissing Luna, he didn’t want her to change her mind about smoking the devils lettuce. So he moved quickly across the room to grab the goods. ”Well, hey, you know what they say, ’Seize the Day’.” he lit the joint with a billow of smoke surrounding his face and passing it over. Simons expression flickered with curiosity when she pinched the joint, bravely raising it to her lips. The devilish part of him loved any time he got to corrupt someones innocence, though he’d never pressure anyone to succumb to his vices. Simon watched as she inhaled, sending it through her nostrils like a seasoned smoker. His lips quirked upwards and he chuckled with a nod of approval. She followed by asking if she’d get the munchies and he nodded again.
The smoke from the end of the joint danced through the sun beams streaming through the curtains. ”Yeah, you’ll probably get the munchies, but that’s one of the best parts, food tastes amazing high..” he told her as she passed the joint back. He ashed it into the tray with an easy flick between his fingers. ”I’ll order a pizza..” Simon inhaled, watching as she stared at the canvas with a blank face, stating she didn’t feel it yet. ”It takes a few minutes to kick in…” he promised her, raising the joint to his lips to take another hearty inhale, watching her carefully as the herbal essence filled his lungs.
Simon reached to cup her face, ”Inhale..” he instructed softly, gently tilting her chin so that he could slowly transfer the smoke into her mouth for a shotgun kiss.

Luna wasn't entirely certain if Simon was being truthful or not, but his words settled over her and calmed her anyways. She revealed a genuine smile, one she reserved especially for him. Something at the back of her mind warned her of impending danger, but Luna was too caught up in the moment to really care. "Or in this case, seize the joint," said Luna, her smile morphing into a smirk as she plucked the joint from his hand. She inhaled deeply, and let the smoke drift out as she exhaled through her nose. She had the sudden urge to laugh at her uncanny resemblance to an angry cartoon bull.
Watching Simon carefully, Luna noted the easy way that he handled himself. As if there was nothing more he really wanted in the world than to paint and puff away at the joint or whatever else he could get his hands on. She nodded solemnly, though she was in no rush. Luna enjoyed the serenity of their moment, unbroken by teammates or questions or memories they didn't want to face. Luna's lips parted as Simon tilted her chin upwards, her eyes widening as Simon edged closer to her. She closed her eyes, inhaling as he instructed as his lips brushed hers ever so gently. The smoke curled down into her lungs, settling silently. For a moment, Luna stood there. And she felt peace.
It was like a door waiting to be unlocked. As soon as her mind started to let go of the rigid control, as the high settled into her bones, the vision started playing. It was the same as before, with the bones and the blood and the entrails. Luna turned, feeling impatient. Shouldn't the mother have been summoned by now? With a flick of her thick, dark robes, Luna stalked towards the mouth of the cave, and examined the valley below her. The winking lights of a nearby city taunted her, reminding her that she was so close, and yet so far from civilisation. And a very distinct bridge spanned a dark twist of the countryside. The the moon peeked out from behind a cloud and with a flash of realisation, Luna knew exactly where she was.
Luna sat bolt upright, not knowing exactly how she'd landed on the floor again. But her eyes were dry and her mind was her own, even if her breaths came in short, sharp pants. Her grey eyes found Simon's. He was still there. Relief rushed through Luna, even though it was rather silly. She was, after all, in Simon's flat. But her strange visions hadn't sent him running. In fact, he had taken care of her. It was what any friend would do, Luna reminded herself flatly. If she had any friends other than Evy. Taking a deep, shaky breath, Luna opened her mouth to speak. "Simon... I need to go. I know where they are." As much as she wanted to stay and escape reality with Simon, she knew that this vision had come to her for a reason. Adventure had called, and so Luna had to go.

Simons fingers laced through Luna's hair gently as he held the back of her head, slowly releasing the smoke from his lungs as she inhaled the herbal essence. His lips pressed to hers tenderly after he took a breath in, chuckling along with her as she blew the smoke out of her nose like a bull. They seemed to be vibrating in a stoney high. Simon was enjoying Luna’s company thoroughly, and she seemed more relaxed than ever...
One moment they were smiling at each other in a stoney bliss. The next, she melted to the floor, again. This time Simon was close enough in proximity where he could grab her stiff body and slow her fall down to the floor. Simon grabbed a pillow from the sofa and placed it under her head, pushing a table away from her.
It wasn’t long until Luna came around. This time she wasn’t screaming into the void during her entire vision, so he was relieved for that. She woke up, stating she needed to leave.
Simon snubbed the joint in the ash tray, no longer finding smoking a priority. ”Huh?” he asked flatly, following with a stoned chuckle. Luna’s sudden urge to leave had him worried about her. Simon didn’t know if she’d blackout somewhere that wasn’t safe. She seemed like she was about to act on impulse, which admittedly, was something he was guilty of doing. He didn't want her to suffer from the repercussions, or worse.
Simon reached out to grab her hand, pulling her so she wouldn’t leave. Though it wasn’t in a way where she couldn’t leave if she truly wanted to. ”Who what where? he asked her, dumbfounded. The half vampire was entirely confused about who she was talking about. Whatever it was, didn’t sound good. ”No, Luna, please. Don’t leave. What’s going on?” he plead with her. These visions weren’t normal for her, he hadn’t ever seen her act in that way and he was becoming more concerned for her well being,

A sense of urgency surged through Luna as the vision disappeared and she returned to her own mind. Her stone coloured eyes found Simon’s, terror evident in her gaze. There was something soft under her head, and she reached back, confused. Apparently, Simon had caught her as she’d fallen, and provided her with a pillow. Something pleasant prickled within her at the revelation, confusing and warm all at the same time. But Luna was too distracted with the new information presented to her in the vision. She had recognised the bridge in the distance, and knew exactly where this strange and vile ritual was taking place. Deep in the Cotswolds, on the hills overlooking Bristol. In the west of England. A place she had spent much of her youth with her sisters and brothers.
There had to be a reason why Luna had seen this. She was absolutely certain of it. Her words came out quickly, but precisely as she informed Simon that she had to go. She couldn’t witness this and do nothing about it. Somehwere, Luna had read that the worst evil was to watch something happen, knowing you could have done something to stop it. The worst evil was non-reaction. Confusion was written all over Simon’s face, and Luna understood. Even she was confused. But she knew this was the right thing to do. She started to rise but Simon took her hand, protesting. ”Then come with me,” said Luna, wrenching her hand from his and collecting her jacket. She took a few steadying breaths, before turning back to Simon as she pulled her jacket on. ”The ritual. I know where it is. I… we have to stop it, Simon. It’s not right, what they’re doing. It’s seriously dark magic. I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise... “ said Luna, offering Simon her hand. ”Where’s that Gryffindor courage?” Luna was scared, terrified even. But more than that, she was convinced that she was right.

Simon searched Lunas gaze, wishing that something in her eyes would tell him what she was thinking, or seeing. She yanked her hand from his, stating that he should come with her. Explaining that she was seeing people performing dark magic and she wanted to stop it. Luna followed by asking where his Gryffindor courage was. He shrugged. Those words stung, only because he didn’t know these days. Not since Sofia had died. Simon was pretty sure his courage and valorous attitude was left back at Hogwarts. He hated that he didn't feel like himself.
Hanging out, painting, and getting high in his flat, sounded much more appealing to him after the strenuous practice they had. Simon sighed, rubbing a hand at the back of his neck, ”A ritual?” he asked after her in disbelief, though he believed her visions, since she said they had been accurate in the past. ”How do you expect us to stop them? If this is a cult, or something of that nature, we’re already going to be outnumbered..” Simon told her, not entirely sold on the idea yet.
Simon took a final sip of his wine, watching Luna carefully. He didn’t want her to go wherever she was planning on going alone, he’d never forgive himself if he didn’t go and something bad happened to her, ”I'll go with you." he agreed, not entirely knowing what he was agreeing to yet. Simon was sure he'd regret it.

Simon pointed out that they would likely be outnumbered, and that they weren't exactly the best people to go on a mission to stop dark magic. Luna commented off-handedly that his Gryffindor courage was missing, but she was terrified. She offered Simon her hand, and at long last he voiced his assent. The look that Luna gave Simon then was a curious one - a mixture of emotions that she couldn't quite put words to. Perhaps it was relief that she wouldn't have to face this alone - and that if she had to choose, Simon would be the one she'd want by her side. In the months that they had been teammates, Luna had promised herself that they were friends, and they'd become quite close. But mixed in the relief was something deeper. Luna opened her mouth to speak, to put a name to the curling feeling inside her belly, but at the last moment she snapped her mouth shut and dropped her hand.
"There's only one," she said at last, finding her voice though her cheeks were tinged with pink. "Only the one that I saw." Did it matter? There was always the chance that this person wasn't acting alone. Luna stepped up to face Simon, their faces mere inches away. "Thank you," said Luna, her voice barely above a whisper. Her lips brushed his, speaking volumes that she couldn't voice. Checking that her wand was still on her, Luna took Simon's arm and apparated them to the blustery hillside.
The full moon hung high in the sky, ringed almost perfectly by thick clouds. A mist clung to the grass, creating an even eerier night than Luna had expected. She looked around, releasing Simon. She spotted the suspension bridge, and frowned. It looked exactly as it had in her vision. The lights of nearby Bristol twinkled at the pair of them, inviting them to forgo their mission and retreat to the comfort and safety of the general population. Luna turned slowly on the hillside, and found what she was looking for.
Ordinary eyes wouldn't have seen it. Unsuspecting eyes wouldn't have seen it. But Luna was neither ordinary nor unsuspecting, and she knew exactly what to look for. The light of a torch flickered in a cave, mostly hidden by the curves of the hill and overgrown grass. Instinctively, Luna reached for Simon, her fingers twisting with his and squeezing. With Simon, she was less afraid. "Come on," she whispered, leading the way forward.

The evening had certainly taken a turn. He didn’t know how he suddenly ended up being led by Luna to a bridge or hillside. The chill of the night air crawled up his spine as his eyes scanned his surroundings in the foggy night air. A haunting Full Moon hung high above the night sky. This wasn’t where he wanted to be tonight. Simon shoved his hands into his pockets, feigning confidence and courage. At this point the only reason why he was here was to escort Luna. When he was scared, he got quiet.
Simon wasn’t prepared to fight anyone. He hoped Luna only wanted to scope things out from afar and remain undetected, but something felt off tonight. Maybe it was the Full Moon... He was preparing for a disaster mentally. And he was pretty sure the impending doom feeling wasn’t from the herb they had just indulged in moments prior.
A sigh passed his lips and he followed behind Luna quietly. Until he saw a torch illuminating the dark stone. Simon froze on the heels of his feet to a complete stop, since she was leading them towards a dark cave. The inner Lion in him kicked him for being such a scardey cat for the first time in his life, but he didn’t want to see what was inside the spooky cave.
Simon swallowed, pulling Luna’s hand away, ”This isn’t like a Halloween prank..no? What’s the plan, exactly? You’re gonna tell them to stop, or fight them? Hex them?” he whispered quickly, hoping she couldn’t sense the growing panic in his voice.

Luna swallowed down the fear that threatened to envelop her, reminding herself that this was important. She didn’t know what this witch or wizard was trying to summon, only that it was veiled in darkness. Whatever this ritual was trying to accomplish, it was nothing good. Luna had felt that deep in her bones, within her very soul, as she had seen the vision. She was half in disbelief that Simon had actually accompanied her, though she suspected it had more to do with her safety than his sense of adventure. That peculiar feeling in her belly grew at that thought - that Simon actually cared. Reminding herself that it was unimportant, Luna centred her focus on the task at hand once more.
Rather than the chatty, confident man she had grown to know so well, Simon was uncharacteristically quiet. Luna started off towards the cave, illuminated by the full moon and the flickering of a torch. Simon obediently fell into step behind her, and Luna’s heart thundered in her chest. Her palms were clammy and her breaths were short. It took Luna a few moments to realise that Simon had frozen. She turned around, her wand aloft and surveyed Simon silently. He reached for her, pulling her away from what was surely trouble.
Blinking, Luna forced herself to take a step back and look at her plan. There really wasn’t one. Just blink knowledge that she had to do something. Would she go in, wand blazing, casting hexes and jinxes here, there and everywhere? No. ”We have to play to our strengths,” said Luna quietly. ”And since we can’t pass a quaffle to defeat this, we’re going to have to use the only other thing on our side. We can’t overpower this person with magic - even two on one, this person has an innate understanding. But we still have one thing. The element of surprise,” said Luna.
Without further ado, Luna crept towards the mouth of the cave. A string of murmured chanting drifted out from the depths - the summoner had gone back to work. Muffliato, thought Luna, casting the charm to mask their footsteps so they could make a silent approach. She took a tentative step into the cave, and was satisfied that her non-verbal spell had worked. She took another tentative step, silently moving through the cave, her wand outstretched before her. They rounded a bend in the cave and the whole, gruesome sight lay spread before them.
The summoner was kneeling, bent over the bones and entrails, an endless chanting string of words emitting from their mouth. Their hood was over their head but their back was to Luna and Simon. Luck seemed to be on their side tonight. Sparing just one backwards glance towards Simon, she nodded. Then, she struck.
”Expelliarmus!”

As Luna looked behind her shoulder and exchanged a look with Simon, he remembered why he was there…Luna. He wanted to make sure she’d be safe during her creepy rendezvous, though he knew she had no problem going alone. Simon had a feeling like she’d fall to the ground and start screaming again.
The chanting echoed off the cave walls sending a chill down his spine. Simon didn’t understand the tongue they were using but he crept quietly trying to hide the fear sinking in his stomach from showing on his face.
There were bones and blood splayed out on the floor. His eyes could barely comprehend what was going on. Simon reached for the blonde, ”Oh, fuck this, fuck no.” he mouthed, his eye brows furrowed as he gestured no.
Luna was in her own word, trying to solve the visions that continued to flicker behind her eyelids. He wished he could help but it seemed more like a personal journey.
One last look behind her shoulder, and Luna did the unexpected. Casting a disarming charm at the hooded figure, sending their wand across the room. The hooded figure staggered forward. "Stupefy!" Simon bellowed after her, unsure of what else to do in the situation.
Simon stared wide eyed, mouth agape, ”Uh-Now what?” he asked her out of disbelief, a hint of irritation from the moment of surprise. For some reason he wasn’t expecting her to do that, which was his first mistake. He should have known to always expected the unexpected with the Trelawney.

The pair were silent as they crept forward, their movement masked by magic and an abundance of caution. Luna sprung on the offensive, disarming the person whilst Simon stunned them. There was a blink of surprise before the summoner collapsed, and Luna clutched the wand that she had won. After a beat of silence, Luna rushed forwards to investigate the summoner. She knelt down and pushed back the hood and found - a young woman. Her mouth dropped in surprise - the voice she’d heard had been low, guttural. Not belonging to this waif of a human, with porcelain skin and hair fair as day. Luna sat back on her heels, flummoxed. ”I didn’t expect this,” she whispered, her gaze finding Simon’s at last.
Luna cast her gaze around the cavern, at the sputtering torches, at the bloody bones that glinted with fresh blood. Luna peered at the young woman’s hands, and found a recently healed gash in her palm. Putting the pieces together, Luna could only assume this particular brand of magic required a fresh blood sacrifice - as if the gruesome nature of arranging bones wasn’t enough. ”We should summon the ministry…” said Luna hesitantly. She wasn’t entirely keen on the idea, especially with her mistrust of the patriarchy. Even though Krum had been forced out as minister, Luna hadn’t seen the ministry display acts of growth or anything of the sort. They just sat on their bureaucratic thrones, wasting time and money. Luna frowned, knowing it was the right thing. ”I don’t suppose an owl is fast enough, is it?”
It took Luna all this time to realise Simon was most certainly not okay. She glanced over at him, and clocked the paleness of his face, the terrified set to his mouth. She reached for him, grasping his hands. ”You are the bravest man I know. Thank you,” said Luna. ”Not many would face something so daunting. But we had to do it. You gave me strength.” She squeezed his hands before letting go. ”Let’s go home.”
