Ginny hadn't exactly waited for an answer before she had shifted some of them around the kitchen and out of her way so she could get to the cooker. Busying herself, her back turned, it was easier to feign deafness and focus on what was the obvious strain now between the members of her family. Even if she couldn't help but give a small smile at Albus' comment. She had no idea what Doctor Who really was, but as the quieter of her children (at least in her mind), she could never help but be secretly pleased when he put a little bit more fight up towards his brother and sister.
With ease she began to fry up the steaks; just enough butter and cooked to the perfect degree just as each member of the family liked them.
Harry stepped over just as she had slid the second one on to a plate, and as she had moved to flop the third into the pan which began sizzling nicely. Momentarily distracted by his sudden close proximity, she inhaled sharply and forget to move the slab of meat into the centre of the pan. While it dangled half in and half out of the pan, she raised an eyebrow, the surprise clear on her face. "Oh...no I mean it's fine. I just wanted to start getting together again. Well, at least try I suppose." If this first gathering was anything to go by, maybe she would have to stretch them to one every two months, rather than monthly. Or else meet on neutral ground like a restaurant or bar. Nibbling on her lip as she let her gaze drift around her children who were now killing each other with a spatula, her cheeks blushed. It definitely could be going better by any rate. Realising her error her cheeks only flushed more and she rushed to poked at the now slightly unevenly cooked steak and moved it into the centre of the pan. Shit, fucking potter distracting me again, she thought briefly before trying to regain her composure and looking up to him with a more nonchalant smile.
"Not bad I guess, just keeping busy with work I suppose." With a one shoulder shrug, she pressed the steak into the pan, making it sizzle and fill the split second of silence between them. "How about you?" Looking up again she raised an eyebrow. She found herself genuinely curious about the answer. The two had been passing like ships in the night, very little to actually do with each other, or force conversation about. Now they were here and had no choice to face each other, Ginny found herself thinking quite a lot about him. As she stood in their kitchen and watched him waiting for an answer, she found it amazingly easy to block out the squabbling siblings in the background. Just like old times, eh?
