PERSONALITY C'est la vie, there is a lot to handle when it comes to Marinette, much like her lineage. Born and raised in the French Quarter in Louisiana, she is a Southern woman at heart. Warm and tender on the surface, but very deep rooted underneath. She is headstrong, a go getter, and loves a sense of adventure. She tends to listen more than she speaks, gathering intel, and assessing/calculating before giving her input, which is what has given her rise through the ranks so quickly in the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA for short). She knows the right things to say and when to say them, even if it is not exactly how she feels along the lines of the subject. If it gets where things need to be for her then she will do what she has to do, and say what she has to say in order to get it. This includes being of a Pureblood decent in a long line of Creole Voodoo background. Bloodlineage means everything to Marinette. The Laveaux line shall not be tainted in any such manner, this means a very heavily vetting process in regards to any male who enters the line, since they are very rooted in the females of the family. Which is the exact opposite of most of the British purebloods. With being a witch comes certain expectation, but in regards to the realm of Voodoo there is a whole other set of expectations for the witches of the Laveaux line. It is a responsibility that every Laveaux takes seriously, messing with the dead, and spirits is not something that they do unless absolutely necessary. Even if their little bit of enhanced magic, coming from ancestoral lines, this includes, clairvoyancy and sometimes seer capabilities, pet familiars, necromancy (to an extent), some versions of magic without use of a wand, and some versions of telepathy. Each Laveaux has a portion of such because of the ancestral buriel grounds in the French Quarter. Marinette's primary is within the realms of clairvoyancy and telepathy, but she treads lightly with both, knowing full well just how dangerous entering into another's mind even just to communicate can be. Mostly the telepathy is with those she trusts most, mainly her family, unless someone is projecting their thoughts particularly loud. She does not dabble in necromancy, leaving that advanced magic to her ancestors and her siblings. That being said Marinette is responsible. She doesn't take things lightly, especially when it comes to magic. She is often out of the United States due to the nature of her work, mainly being the MACUSA representation in the British Ministry of Magic and the Ministère des Affaires Magiques de la France. She is fluent in both French and Haitian Creole, considering her background and where she grew up. She very much has a do not mess with me kind of attitude. She doesn't put up with a lot of bull shit, simply because she feels like wasting someone's time is rude. Which ties into how serious she is, most think she is an uptight snob because of how she acts. Where the food is great, the entertainment is better, and you have the chance to enter into the world of Voodoo. There is a cemetery that has since been sealed off, unless you take a tour from one of the many tour guides of the city, where you can visit the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans yourself at St. Louis Cemetery." One of the many advertisements to the Laveaux lineage spread across the counties surrounding New Orleans. It is enough to make Marinette's eyes roll every time she comes home to visit her family in the French Quarter. Why her parents decided to stay, was beyong her, just the sheer fact of being around so many muggles drove her mad, let alone the exploitation of the family name. It made her skin crawl, and the fire to boil in her veins. Yet, she always remained calm, sticking to the more true magic of New Orleans, not what the muggles had been sold on. Yes, their family came from the first Voodoo Queen, Marie Catherine, from the 1800s. She came from a long line of women who were born and raised as free black American's during this time period. The French Quarter was their safe haven, a place where they sheltered other black runaways from slavery, and a long line of midwives. Healing and helping was in their blood, but so was an ancient darkness that couldn't be overlooked or overshadowed. They knew when things were happening, things that they shouldn't be aware of. They were able to communicate with souls that had long moved on, sometimes capable of bringing them back if truly focused. They had visions of the future, and were once a line that held unique prophecies. As the line grew, the magic split among individuals, those strongest to the ancestoral bond withheld the most of the unique magic. Those that split off, diluting the line, were cut off. So, the Laveaux name became a strong suit among the women, knowing the importance of keeping the line pure, keeping the tether between the ancestors in tact. Many women came from the Laveux's, but none as pure as the lineage that coursed from Marinette's line. The purity and the ancestoral bond showed at a young age for Marinette. Her mother was capable of clairvoyancy and telepathy, knowing what was happening before things happened, and what people were thinking before they thought it. Marinette gained those gifts from her mother, studying them diligently to fine tune through her younger years. She had gained a familiar during her schooling at Ilvermorny, the cat seeking her out personally as she ventured into the wilderness out of boredom. Her sense of adventure and something else made her enter, and following instinct they ran into each other. Ever since the Bengal cat, Tremé, was always with her. Growing up in the French Quarter came with odd experiences. They tolerated muggles, but Marinette always viewed them as well beneath her, avoiding them as much as she possibly could. Other members of her family did not see this as she did, tolerating them much better than her. She just could never chance breaking the ancestoral line by falling in love with a muggle...which had happened plenty in the past. Her family and her were close, but she was particularly close with her older sister Calista, up until an incident which resulted in very dark magic wielded by Calista. Souls were not to be messed with, dark souls at that, and Calista had attempted to put one inside a muggle she was experimenting on. When Marinette intervened, the magic turned on her, and caused damage, physically and spiritually. The incident created a rift between them, one that Marinette would never forgive or forget, she was fourteen when it happened and had to miss much of her fourth year because of it at Ilvermony. Ilvermony was boring to Marinette. She was there to learn, and do stupid things in her free time when she so desired, but other than that she wanted to get out into the magical community. While at Ilvermorny she did focus on improving her other capabilities, including her ability to do wandless magic. She improved her French and Haitian Creole during her time there, and had even begun to learn Swedish and Italian. The hopes of making it high up in the ranks of the Ministry her goal. Which she did end up as the Presiden's secretary once she graduated. It didn't take much convincing for her to move up into her position as the Presidential Advisor for Foreign Affairs (PAFA) for Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), specifically the liason for Britian, Haiti, and France. Her main station is in the British Ministry of Magic, handling affairs as the President's right hand. She also quickly obtained a position as the United States Delegate on the International Confederation of Wizards Board. With holding such a high position, she rarely gets enough time to visit her family back in New Orleans. Yet, because of the strength of the ancestorial magic, it does require that she visit every six months for at least a few weeks. Otherwise, her additional gifts tend to wane off a little, and she gets very sick. With Hag's Fever and the Wyrdness running free, it had caused her to be busier than usual. Which as a result of her stress causes her abilities to act up at times. When she is usually very controlled of her telepathy and clairvoyancy, sometimes she is unable to reign in control to be able to decipher things clearly. With her family she hasn't spoke with them much since everything, only visiting when required otherwise falling ill. However, she always acts in the best interest to the Laveaux name. OOC
