Breeze's pronouns are he/him in this threadOPEN! Breeze had never been to a proper Walpurgis Night festival. The only one in his family that would have celebrated it was Mom Sybylla, but she'd been busy with work and family. So he'd never seen her really try to celebrate it. So, when he'd heard about the festivities in Bellenau he knew he wanted to go! He'd read plenty of history books that mentioned the holiday but he'd much rather experience this important wizarding holiday himself. And so, off he went!
Immediately he was bombarded by the bonfire smoke and loud music and laughter. It looked like the festivities were already in full swing. Unsure where to even start, he paused and stared for several moments. Like a deer in headlines. After a few moments though his composure seemed to return and he started to look around, trying to figure out where to even start. Okay, what did he know about modern Walpurgis Night? Drinking. Drinking was a must. Okay, he'd start there. His wandering gaze turned searching as he tried to find the vendors and stalls. It wasn't hard to find, but then came the next dilemma. The drinks themselves. He really didn't drink often, and he'd been spending so much in the muggle world because of school that he really wasn't even that familiar with wizarding alcohol. So the drink menu baffled him. He stared at it, transfixed, for a moment, before he felt someone next to him, eyeing the menu as well. "Uh, excuse me? I... well, funny thing. I don't really know any of these drinks. What would you suggest?" He immediately asked the stranger, planting a smile on his lips.

April 30, 2027 Having spent most of her life between Bulgaria and England, Walpurgisnacht was a holiday that Ivanka knew a fair bit about because of her mother's being German and her family's connections to Durmstrang. She hadn't really had the opportunity to celebrate it much, however, given that she had been at Hogwarts for multiple years. Now, almost one year since the fire that had destroyed Hogwarts, Ivanka wasn't overly sure that she wanted to participate in anything that involved fire. She just had to tell herself that she wouldn't have had a choice in the matter if it were Curse-Breaking, a mantra that she kept repeating in her head when she arrived to the village that was hosting the night's celebrations.
After spending some time trying to get the lay of the land, so to speak, Ivanka decided to go grab a drink. While she wasn't looking to get so drunk that she wouldn't be able to remember that evening, a pint of beer or some firewhisky wasn't going to hurt anything. She was busy looking over her options when someone she didn't recognize asked her what the drinks there were and what she would suggest.
Although Ivanka was a bit surprised that someone in the magical world wouldn't know what firewhisky was, she provided the stranger with an answer. They looked of age, at least, though the rest of their appearance struck Ivanka as being androgynous. Maybe they were more towards the masculine side? She didn't want to be presumptuous. They were talking alcohol, not gender, but the stranger had found a lesbian already, Ivanka noted. "Er, if you like spirits, there's Ogden's Old Firewhisky," she explained. That was always a popular choice. "There's Dragon Scale if you'd like an ale… And it looks like they've got some Druid wines from Hy-Brasil…"

Breeze, usually consumed by his studies, rarely drank. Plus, his over protective mothers had never been a fan of his drinking despite their own. Far to young. Then, whenever he was with his American father, he, of course, was never allowed to drink as he was still underage in America and his father's mind. That wasn't to say he hadn't at least drank once or twice since turning 18... But it had been at a pub with some of the other archeology students at the university. Wizarding alcohol was a completely different ballgame.
As the girl explained Breeze eyebrows furrowed together in almost confusion. Clearly he was someone that personally knew very little about alcohol, not seeming to understand the difference between spitits, ale, and wine. Breeze looked back at the menu, as if seeing the names might help his understanding but it didn't. "I see," he answered, trying to sound confident but failing. He pursed his lips. Finally though he looked at the girl again, smiling a little. The smile was one of slight embarrassment. "Sorry, I haven't had a lot of opportunities to try these. What.... uh... What would be on the weaker end?" He knew that much at least, that he shouldn't pick something particularly strong. But clearly he didn't know enough about alcohol to know about proof.

April 30, 2027 Most people, Ivanka imagined, would probably be able to go off of what she had said. She was neither a bartender nor a sommelier, just a teenage girl; she wouldn't be able to explain the difference between different types of beer or wine. Some people could rattle off that sort of thing like the back of their hand, though, and there was probably somebody around who could.
The stranger who had asked her for assistance didn't seem to mind, though, and neither did they appear to recognize her as the former Minister for Magic's daughter. Maybe, thought Ivanka, they were just trying to be polite and not bring it up. Her father's reputation in politics hadn't been the greatest, which was why he was no longer in office. "Sorry, I haven't had a lot of opportunities to try these. What… uh… What would be on the weaker end?"
"Well, beer has less alcohol in it than wine, I think?" Ivanka reasoned. She began to question herself, wondering if she had that backwards. The Druid wines could be awfully strong, though, she considered. She looked over the menu again, thinking. "Butterbeer has a bit of alcohol in it but only enough to get a house-elf drunk. For 'real' beer, the Dragon Scale, maybe?"

It probably was quite odd having to explain alcohol to a stranger, but for some reason, despite the only slight embarrassment, Breeze didn't seemed to bothered by it. There were a great many things he didn't know in life, that's what made it interesting. Always learning and growing, discovering new information. Once explained, he understood concepts quite well and he had an almost childlike curiosity for anything new. Nor was he ashamed to admit he didn't know something. Though in this case it seemed like it should be common knowledge to him, hence his slight embarrassment. Perhaps he should have taken some time to learn about wizarding alcohol, though two of his three parents would have been useless to ask and the third probably wouldn't have if his mother stopped her.
The girl in question wasn't familiar to him at all, just a complete stranger that had happened to be nearby and looked nice enough to assist him in this attempt to pick an alcoholic drink. Again though, it wasn't a surprise. He'd been caught up in his studies since coming to England and hadn't spent much time in the magical community or it's news. Now in Egypt? He knew more, considering his stepmother was a witch. He'd kept him informed. But here? Well he was very much on his own. He supposed that would change though, as he planned on transferring to the new school that had been announced once it officially opened.
Breeze squinted at the menu, again seeming to hope that it might give more clues what he should order. The girls direction of beer helped, and he completely missed the almost questioning in her voice. Okay, beer. He could do that. Which one was beer though? He'd just spotted "Butterbeer", assumed it to be this presumed beer, when she mentioned it. Ah, so that wasn't a smart choice. Dragon Scale. Wasn't that an ale? Was ale and beer similar? He didn't know, and would have to do some research later. "Oh, I see. I'll try that then!" he answered cheerful, that smile much less embarrassed and more relieved now as he looked at her once more. "Thank you, I appreciate your help." While awkward sometimes, Breeze had had manners ingrained into him growing up. "We never celebrated Walpurgis night back home, or really any magical holidays. Of course, there were many other magical people. I'm sure many celebrated them. But my mother who knows them was was working and my other isn't that familiar with them-" He cut himself off, realizing in that moment two things. One, that he didn't know why he was even explaining all this. And two that he was rambling. A hint of red tinged his cheeks and ears and he looked away. "Apologies, I didn't mean to say all that. I'm sorry for holding up your time. You're probably very busy and-" He almost started again. There was that social awkwardness of his, making him looks like a fool in front of a kind stranger. "Um... I- Again, thank you for helping." There, a slightly more controlled response.

April 30, 2027 The stranger seemed to have come to a decision, which Ivanka supposed was good for her. She didn't mind helping out, but it was the strangeness of the exchange that stood out to her. The stranger thanked her, at least. (For how strange the conversation was, the stranger had remained polite about it.) The stranger also clarified to her that they didn't celebrate Walpurgis Night where they were from. Although Ivanka couldn't place where they were from, she nodded a little as she listened to them explain.
It was always awkward to listen to people oversharing, though it seemed like this other person wasn't as suspicious as Ivanka originally thought, based on how they were blushing at the realization that they had said a lot; they just probably didn't get out much. In only a matter of seconds, Ivanka had gathered that they had two mothers… if she'd heard them right, that was.
"Apologies, I didn't mean to say all that. I'm sorry for holding up your time. You're probably very busy and—" The stranger was still rambling on, clearly still nervous. "Um… I— Again, thank you for helping."
"It's, er, not a problem." She didn't want to make things worse for them. It must have been embarrassing as it was to admit to someone they didn't know that they knew nothing about alcohol, when most people at Hogwarts seemed to have at least tried firewhisky—if they hadn't actually smuggled it into the castle a time or two themselves—by the end of their seventh year. "I'm Ivanka, by the way." It would have been a great time to have a badge with her pronouns on it, she thought, though she didn't want to be creepy about it. "My pronouns are 'she' and 'her'."

Breeze had never really spent much time with people his own age growing up. University, surprisingly, had been his first consistent opportunity. With his mothers it hadn't been too much from lack of opportunity but because he was simply a nerdy kid who'd been homeschooled. When he was with his father though it was because... Well his father had been working and it wasn't exactly a place you'd find many kids. As such, it left gaps in his social skills though he usually didn't mind. It was only after starting university he realized that most people his age didn't actually like his rambling. It was why he tried to stop himself when he realized it was happening.
Thankfully, it seemed as if he hadn't offended the girl with the rambling and the blush faded a little, leaving only a faint pink on his cheeks and a warm smile. That smile only grew warmer as the girl introduced herself, a turn of events he hadn't expected but nice. It seemed like she was just a nice person, helping him with his alcohol dilemma and not being mad about his rambling. "I'm Breeze," he answered in response, fully aware how odd his name might seem. His artistic mother had named him and clearly taken some artistic freedom. Ivanka's next comment took him by surprise though, his eyebrows raising high as she gave him her pronouns.
Now, her words weren't surprising. Breeze had been apart of support groups, as a teenager and at the university. Giving your pronouns was a given. But he'd never... experienced someone outside those support groups bring it up. He was usually the first one to mention it. He knew that his own identity confused people. So it was very surprising to have someone offer them up before he did. In a good way. "I'm currently 'he' and 'him'." he quickly answered, pausing momentarily. "It changes. I'm genderfluid, so it's not always the same. It's okay if you get it wrong, it conf-" He could feel the rambling starting, a normal ramble too of having to explain his identity. But the fact that she'd mentioned it first... "Sorry... I don't have to explain it, do I?" he asked sheepishly.

April 30, 2027 The stranger's name was Breeze, which—considering that there was a family with children whose legal names were all days of the week, bar one, who had come to Hogwarts from Ilvermorny—actually wasn't one of the stranger names she'd heard. It was the sort of name that a Druid might have, though, and she momentarily wondered if that was why Breeze was so unfamiliar with alcohol. The Druids on Hy-Brasil, at least, seemed to do everything with the addition of alcohol, though, so that couldn't have been it.
Breeze clarified that his pronouns were "he" and "him" but that he was genderfluid, so that changed. It was clear that he wasn't used to having to explain that to other people, which Ivanka understood. Upon rambling again, Breeze at least caught himself that time. "Sorry… I don't have to explain it, do I?"
Ivanka shook her head. "I'm cisgender, but I'm a lesbian, so I… Yeah." In short, she got it. "Where are you from, Breeze?" she asked, both for the sake of continuing the conversation and because she was really curious. They were about the same age. If he had been a Hogwarts student, she would have at least known who he was already, and he almost certainly would have known of her.

Breeze wasn't actually used to meeting people, outside clubs or support groups, that he didn't have to explain being genderfluid to. Especially having grown up mostly in a country that was quite religious. It wasn't until he'd come to the UK that he.. well that he really told people outside his family about his pronouns. While his mom's had been accepting the area they'd raised him wasn't. While that changed when he came to the UK, he still wasn't used to people not... asking questions bout what it meant. This girl though seemed to understand immediately and took it in stride. It was... refreshing. Even though he had had to explain it before though it didn't mean he was actually good at it. He'd never quite figured out how to explain being genderfluid to people.
The girl's understanding, and words put him more at ease and he smiled brightly. "Egypt. Mostly. My moms are British but they like Egypt. For work. Dad is American, but he traveled everywhere for work. So wherever he was working I sometimes visited." Too much information again, but at least it was a bit more controlled then before. At least it explained his accent. Quite the mixing pot it was.

April 30, 2027 Breeze explained that he was mostly from Egypt, but he was also British and American. Ivanka also caught that he used "moms" in the plural, which struck her as interesting. Obviously, she knew that she wasn't the only woman attracted to women in the world, but it was nice to be reminded that there were older women who had managed to find love and have families of their own.
"Egypt?" Ivanka repeated. She wasn't an expert on the country as a whole, but she had been to Egypt before for her training. That was one of the things that she knew she would miss about going back to Hogwarts and having proper lessons; she wouldn't be traveling around the world and learning from the established Curse-Breakers as she went. "There's nothing wrong with Egypt," she clarified, in case Breeze had thought that she had anything against Egypt. It had just surprised her; that was all. "I'm in training to be a Curse-Breaker."
"Er, don't be surprised if people know me here," Ivanka then added, the thought suddenly dawning on her. Maybe it was better not to mention that her father had been the head of the magical government there, especially given the way in which he'd left the position. There was really no escaping that, though, and she had learned that she had to live with it.
