It wasn’t like she had purposely hid her partial vampirism from her classmates for four years. They had simply never asked her, so she never offered it up. Only having a quarter-vampire blood flowing through her meant that she was essentially just like everyone else at Beauxbatons and Hogwarts, aside from occasionally needing a little dose of blood to keep things going. Apparently that was too much for some of them though. Her new classmates from the UK were seemingly okay with it except that they had also been the ones that spilled about her Nonna being a vampire. Lucia had never been ashamed of her grandmother’s business or what she came from, but Merlin is tough trying to fend off the simultaneous assault of jeers and questions. A lot of the inquiries were veiled attacks, the sort she had seen less popular students go through over the years. School-yard bullying, essentially. Except her predicament was slightly more unique in the fact that her classmates had no problem being outright cruel to her because vampires were ‘scary and evil’. She was more frustrated in who had raised these other kids, because it was a perfectly normal thing back home in Horizont Alley. At least the Hogwarts students seemed to be on her side for the most part, a few helpful ones reassuring her that they were cool with it.
After a few weeks of it though, Lucia had decided to go on the offensive for a change of pace. There was no discernable difference between the Blood Pop candies that contained real blood and those that didn’t. They had always been a fun treat for her, a box stashed in her suitcase under her dorm bed that was hidden from the rest of her roommates. She was honestly amazed it had taken them this long to figure out that the candy she was constantly sucking on was the real deal and not some quirky English thing that they constantly teased her for. But now they knew, and freaking them out by making a show of it was one of the most rewarding things ever. Her new classmates from Hogwarts enjoyed this as well, quite a few egging her on to stick it to the French kids. Apparently there was still some animosity left over from the Triwizard Tournament, and they liked how she skeeved them out with her newfound Blood Pop addiction. There was no changing who she was, so showing off what she had was the least she could do to normalize it.
They would probably forget eventually. It was hard to gauge though. Every papercut in class was now suddenly protected with glares shot at her like daggers. As if she had ever had blood from the source! If they had paid attention in class, they would have known that vampires rarely did that nowadays if there was a blood bank nearby. And thanks to her Nonna, no one in London had to worry about that at all. Overall, it left a bad taste in her mouth. Like a worse one than a fake Blood Pop did. Seeing her classmates flip so fast like they had was a disappointment. She was just like all of them, in one way or another. It just so happened that she was descended from a vampire instead of a pureblood family. Both were obsessed with blood, so how different could she actually be from the rest of them?
