PERSONALITY Alora had a lonely childhood; and that is what formed the basis of her personality. She can come off as cold or uncaring, but it isn’t truly the case. She is usually withdrawn and finds it difficult to form meaningful connections in her life. Trained from a young age to contain herself and cover up her true emotions, she bottles things up. Alora is quiet and calculating, more content to sit on the side of a large group and analyze what’s going on; storing away the pieces of information for a later date. Never social, she always concentrated on her academics, leading her to the successes she’s achieved in her life. Extremely book smart, she was not always the best at her spell work. She is driven and determined when needed. While she had experienced growth in herself and had been working on being not so withdrawn and distant; The recent shift in her circumstances has put all that right back to square one. HISTORY Alora Astor was not brought into the world under the best set of circumstances. After being conceived out of wedlock to Adalina Astor (shock horror) she was raised up by her extremely traditionalist Grandmother. When Thomas & Adalina set off happily into the sunset to never be heard from again. Although Amelia Astor liked to keep up the pre-tense that herself and her darling only Granddaughter were the product of long lines of Pureblood breeding; when in fact they’re half breeds at best. Wealthy and well off Alora never had to look for much…except for actual familial love and acceptance. The result of some sort of illicit affair between his mother and an unknown man (likely a muggle), her grandmother had always kept a tight, controlling leash on her. She had been brought up like some show pony. Trotted out at all the right social gatherings with the dream to just find the right husband so she could be married off and be the perfect little housewife. Except that was everything Alora didn’t want. Although she didn’t actively rebel, she didn’t exactly go silently with her Grandmother’s plans. Alora stuck to herself in her later Hogwarts years, and just got through it all. Alora used the Greenhouses at the school as a sanctuary; Herbology became her escape. Even though it left her ultimately alone, she wasn’t entirely displeased when in her sixth year her Grandmother passed and left her with a new sense of freedom and a healthy fortune. She continued her Education at Hogwarts, and afterwards was able to fund a degree from a Muggle University in English literature with a minor award in social sciences. She went on to obtain her masters and spent a lot of time working as a teaching assistant at the college. It was there she met Samuel; a student on study abroad from NYU. She fell for him quickly, even more so when it became clear he was a muggle born wizard. They grew closer and a year and a half ago Alora moved to New York to be with him. It was her fresh start, a new beginning to what she thought would be her happy ever after. Life was fantastic. She was even able to turn a blind eye to the word of uprisings of blood purists in the UK without thinking too much of her dear dead grandmother. That was, until she uncovered the fact he had actually been cheating on her for six months and it turned out that the girl he had been seeing was now pregnant. After that, she fell to pieces. Alora was quickly dumped on her ass. After rattling around her inherited London Townhouse for some months in all sorts of depression she grew to hate it; what caged her in in her early life had now turned into an entirely different sort of prison. Although she had been purposely disconnected from the UK based wizarding scene, she had briefly kept up with the news on that side of the Atlantic. Vaguely aware of the efforts to rebuild Hogwarts and it's new format after it's downfall a year prior. While the reconstruction seemed to take forever; Alora was still pleasantly surprised to see the advertisement looking for staff in the Daily Prophet, feeling it was far too soon. And yet, it gave her pause. The notice for a Herbology Professor and Sub-Cover at Hogwarts new MAGIC division drew far too much attention in her head for her to be comfortable with. She's still not sure if she's making the right decision, but for now if it breaks her out of her stupor, she'll try to enjoy it. WANT AD
