Rhys wondered how different it would feel to easily separate these important parts of his life. With a desk job, he punched in, worked, punched out, and went home. There was such a clear line for him between those aspects of his life. But Cursebreaking was not like that at all, nor could it be. For what it took to survive, one had to be all in. Unfortunately, the dynamic was tricky to translate into words since it was a feeling rather than an idea. And by nature, such events like this strange and politically motivated suspension Rhys dealt with hurt more than he cared to admit.
He couldn’t stop his eyes from rolling a bit. Here we go again. Juniper hadn’t let go that Rhys hadn’t given her a second-by-second account of the night. Annoyed, Rhys lightly chewed the inside of his cheek as he waited for Juniper to finish talking. For the moment, he was far too frustrated to answer. Even without the pushing and prodding, it didn’t do anything to decrease Rhys growing feeling of isolation. He was reminded of times he’d been cornered by a few older Slytherin boys, and since Rhys had only been a second or third year, he was still small. That feeling of nowhere to run or hide or even room to breathe.
Naturally, he was brought back to Earth when he felt her hand. After a moment, Rhys let his arms loosen from their crossed position and fall as he sighed. She could always bring him back. Still, Rhys felt at a bit of a loss. Rhys wanted nothing more than to be close to her, but at the same time, the flat felt claustrophobic. He certainly had a lot of thoughts about the whole thing. ”I wasn’t hiding it from you intentionally.” Rhys began, his voice calm. ”The things he said…I…” Reactively, his hand tightened a little bit around hers as he thought about how difficult it was to explain what Fenrir had done to his mother in the first place. He just lightly shook his head rather than try to put that feeling into words again. ”I don’t know, Juni…” Juniper looked to him for some kind of answer or direction, but Rhys didn’t know what he wanted. Was it so bad he’d just wanted to protect her? Finally, he looked at her. ”I need some air. I’ll be back.” Not a half hour earlier, Rhys had been ready to storm out without a word, but his head was in a different place. Stepping forward, he let go of her hand. Now he hadn’t yet decided if this was a brisk fifteen-minute stroll where he’d return shortly or whether he’d crawl into her arms in the middle of the night after his stroll led him to the pub.
