Shawn quietly laughed to himself as Alora apologized for apologizing so much. Explaining that she had been apologizing from such a young age that it might be a hard habit to break. Shawn felt like he knew a lot of people like that when he was a student. Who had to take the blame or apologize for the smallest of mistakes. He wasn’t one to try to blame others, but he did try to find a way out of the trouble he caused as a student. Even if it didn’t work much of the time, She lifted his hand to her lips and tried to hide a laugh he imagined, but all he could really think about was how he wished it was his lips instead, not his hand. “Practice makes perfect; we’ll just have to cause more trouble, and you’ll have to not apologize.” Shawn teased for a moment, only partially kidding. It was much harder to do anything like that now that they were adults. Adults had far fewer excuses and were expected to know better. Shawn just wasn’t normally one of those adults.
He hadn’t expected much of a response to his questions. It was just intended to shift the mood and break the silence for a bit. Instead, Alora admitted what she had said, going into more detail and explaining what the next couple of weeks had been like. It didn’t exactly hit Shawn what she was getting at until a few moments later. His face went even more red, realizing it. Knowing full well that he wasn’t ready for that moment in his life either, Shawn let out an awkward laugh. "Yeah, I guess in the moment we kind of forgot certain... protections.” It was a weird thing to suddenly feel embarrassed about, but here he was. Finding himself briefly lost for words, he hadn’t thought of that aspect of what they had done. “That would have broken our no drama promise.” Shawn attempted to joke, just to say anything at this point.
Alora spoke up once more, explaining how she hadn’t planned to come to his office that night to seduce him. She claimed she didn’t even think he saw her in such a way. “So the next time is going to be planned then? Or is it my turn to go to your office?” Shawn joked just slightly; he wouldn’t have minded such a repeat, minus the awkward months that had followed it. “Truthfully, I always thought you were pretty, but I tried to avoid thinking more about it. We work together after all.” It was hard not to find Alora pretty; she was a beautiful woman. “I might not be the most professional, but the least I can do is try and not get a crush on every cute redheaded Herbology professor.” Shawn found it easier to be more honest with his feelings in the dark. Not that he hadn’t been honest before, but he just kept it to himself. "Sadly, that ship has sailed.”

There was nothing but comfortable silence on Alora's end for a moment as he spoke; listening to the low rumble of Shawn's words in the dark quiet, paired with the drumming of his heart against her chest. This was not how she had thought this night would end up, not that she was upset about it at all, really she was quite pleased, but it had taken her by surprise to say the least. The heat she felt flood his face at her revelation wasn't a surprise though. She wondered if that had crossed his mind at all. Maybe not. She supposed he wouldn't have had to think about it the way it weighed on her own mind. Kids weren't really something to bring up on a first date, if this even was a date she thought. But now it had been a forced topic of conversation it made Alora's heart beat a little faster. It was something she had gone back and forth on in her mind for years. Sometimes she wanted kids, to try give them the childhood she never had, the idea of it seemed quite lovely, but then the doubt and fear would settle in. She had never had a stable maternal figure to model herself off of. She wouldn't have a clue what to do and likely be a total failure in every aspect. She didn't even really hear his attempt at a joke to lighten the situation, instead she just blurted out "I mean; kids? Maybe later, but definitely not now." Instantly she grew irritated with herself, an idiot for saying such a thing. That definitely didn't need to be said. The way her brain had no filter when she was around Shawn both baffled and annoyed her. Usually so calculated in every aspect of everything; he seemed to turn her brain fuzzy, even when she hadn't been drinking and made all this dumb stuff happen. Her lips pressed together in a lame attempt to shut herself up for a few minutes to regain the silence and let the colour die down. Shawn's next endeavor at teasing her was enough of a distraction though; a smile broke out against his lips. "Well planned, no. That makes it sound a little...hostile maybe? Like I'll be launching an attack. But..." she paused, searching the dark for the right word. When she spoke again her words were more tentative. "Maybe a little more...expected I guess.." Her tone laced with a little more caution as her mind started to wander into the uncharted territory of wondering what exactly this thing between them was, or where it would go beyond tonight. Though after a slight pause, she took a breath, trying not to think about it. Maybe it was better to just enjoy what tonight was for what it was and live in the now. It was hard though, as Shawn went on to be truthful about how he felt. Alora held her breath for a moment, listening more carefully than she had done all evening. Nobody had ever called her pretty. Even with Sam she was always just 'Hot' or 'nice'. For a moment she didn't really know what to say in response. But then he actually admitted he had a crush on her and that immediately floored her. As her mouth fell open a low rip of giggles escaped. "Nah, don't be silly Shawny, people don't get crushes on me. Nobody's ever had a crush on me. Maybe we're too old to have crushes now.." That part was definitely a lie. She did in fact have a massive crush on him that she had been reminded about as soon as he walked out onto the tower earlier this evening and that weird exciting tightness in her abdomen started up again. Though, it was only now was that realisation actually dawning on her that that was what that was. As she let out another low laugh, the tip of her nose tickled his and made her want to draw in even closer to him. "Though now you say that..."shawn lesley ashcroft
