lose control, i won't crash Evy didn’t know why she bothered. Men were stupid. An absolute waste of time. She ran a hand through her hair, the loose wave falling past her shoulder. At that moment, she waited for the bartender to return with her drink. Sitting on the bar stool, she casually leaned on the bar with her leg crossed neatly over the other. Usually, on nights like this, she’d show up at Nate’s. Evy had done just as much Christmas Day, and Christmas Eve had been filled with the usual family drama now that her mother had almost wholly replaced her blood supply with cheap wine. To avoid the headache, Evy had snuck off to Nate’s. Only telling Mina after receiving a text from her older sister later in the day.
Not even a week into the new year, Evy swore off men; she swore off women and relationships in general. Most of all, she swore off Nathaniel David Forrester. The blockhead refused to leave Evy’s thoughts. But what else was new? Aside from taking residence in a new flat, he also seemed to live rent-free in Evy’s mind. It was the same old song and dance for over two years, and neither seemed to learn their lesson. Especially Evy. And what made her more upset was that there really wasn’t anything to declare, was there? They were friends who had sex and would stay up late eating takeaway in front of the television, among other things.
Nothing more, at least if you asked Nate. Evy felt she needed to figure herself out in the meantime. But who would she even talk to? Luna was going through her things, with Evy supporting her, of course. Mina’s main words of advice typically involved keeping away from Sarah. Sarah didn’t usually say much, and Evy wasn’t interested in some hour-long lecture from Callisto. And her brother? Well, Dakoda was dead, so that wasn’t helpful either. Letting out a heavy sigh, Evy accepted the beverage. Something sweet, without the strong taste of alcohol that she could drink all at once (which she did). Tonight, she wanted to relax, enjoy the music and the vibes, and push everything else until tomorrow.

Club Indigo was one of the most infamous places in the wizarding world. Known for scantily clad women (and men), heavy bass that made your legs shake, and even heavier poured drinks. Whenever Mal stepped foot into Club Indigo he knew he was in for a good night.
After taking a break from Cursebreaking and joining Jack on tour, he found himself with more time on his hands than he was used to. When he wasn't at a sold out gig with the boys, he was typically with Jack at their flat or out hiking when the weather wasn't dreadful. He managed to slip in more sober time than intended with Rue, also, which was always interesting. In an effort to get away from Jack for the night he decided to drop into Club Indigo to visit a few mates. It was typically easy to find a lady of the night at places like this but he typically enjoyed dancing and the vibes. You never knew who you'd run into at Club Indigo..
For Malcolm, young lasses with wounded hearts were comparable to blood in the water with a great white shark. They were easy prey and didn’t take much effort for a dashing looking young man like him. It didn’t take him long to zone in on a prime target for the evening… A young lady he was acquainted with in the past, perched at the bar alone. Her name was Evy and she was a wee bit younger than him but she was "fun sized" and held a more stoic expression most of the time, making her a bit of a mystery. Mal loved a challenge. It seemed like she was alone tonight, so after observing her knock back a fruity looking drink in record timing, he decided it was a good time to make his way toward her.
Tapping on Evy's shoulder lightly, he burrowed himself into her personal space and stood beside her, folding over to offer her a friendly embrace. "Hello Miss Evy.." he greeted with a charming smile, cocking his head to the side with amusement after watching her pound that drink like a champion. His hand remained on the small of her back before gesturing to the empty glass. "Are ya getting drunk for the hell of it or to numb the hell of it tonight?" he asked playfully with a flirty sparkle in his eyes.

lose control, i won't crash No sooner had Evy placed her empty glass back on the bar did she hear a voice, and at the same time feeling the hand on her back sent an unexpected chill up her spine. She was familiar with that voice—not that he’d made it very far with her in the past. Evy found too much gratification in seeing who would challenge her defensives, and most never did. At least not until Nate. But she did not want to think about him tonight. ”Malcolm.” She greeted in return, maintaining her even expression.
Malcolm immediately referenced her beverage—or what was left of it. Simply a glass with ice that hardly had a chance to melt before Evy consumed its entire contents. Raising a curious eyebrow at the man (the incredibly tall man), she chose not to respond immediately. Instead, she made eye contact with a passing bartender and nodded for another one. ”I have my reasons.” Evy responded coyly. ”The real question is why should I share them with you.” A new drink replaced her old one, and Evy decided to sip this one patiently for now.
Again, she reminded herself that remaining single seemed the easiest path in life. But then again, a girl had needs, did she not? Evy let her eyes examine Malcolm. He also had a brother who was nearly as tall, and something about that chiseled face made him difficult to ignore.

Malcolm's expression remained even to match Evy's as he leaned against the counter. The bartender dropped off another drink for the both of them and he raised it to her before taking a sip. Shrugging his shoulders upwards at her question, "Because Misery loves company." he stated with a confident slow spreading smirk, eyes boring into her as if he had solved the mystery - or as if he were going to eat her. Malcolm's hazel eyes drank in the lass standing before him, ruffling a hand through his hair cooly as the loud bass rumbled the floor beneath their feet.
Feigning a more soft and charming expression, he took another swig of his drink, ”You here with anyone tonight?" he asked her, expecting her to say no as his eyes shamelessly trailed down her shirt. The last time he saw Evy she was with the Insufferable Nathaniel Forrester, who Mal was often acquainted with around the Ministry of Magic and work in general. It had been a while though. Admittedly, that made her more desirable, though the low cut top she was wearing was also quite nice. Malcolm loved any opportunity to take away other peoples toys like a trophy.

lose control, i won't crash Malcom’s point was valid and on point for the night. ”And what has you miserable this evening, Mr. Clark?” Evy had all the time in the world. The night was young, and the drinks were just beginning. But if one was going to be miserable, it was best to find miserable company. Both often needed the distraction. With a new drink in hand, Evy took a sip and decided to slow down until she decided what to do about the man in front of her. Perhaps it was a sign that she shouldn’t swear off company altogether but instead find kindred spirits.
It was also not lost on Evy how his eyes trailed lower and lower every time he spoke to her. Well, she wouldn’t have worn this top if not for that purpose. Her older sister Callisto would have a fit as Evy was still twelve in her mind. Mina would have something sarcastic to comment, and Sarah would merely glare. ”Something tells me it wouldn’t matter to you either way.” She tilted her head, a coy expression on her face as she continued to sip her drink. Flagging down the bartender, Evy ordered two tequila shots, which appeared quickly. With two fingers, she pushed one toward Malcolm while lifting the other one. ”To misery?” She offered as the first toast of the night.

Hazel eyes flickered to Evy as she asked what was making him miserable this evening. Truthfully, he wasn’t miserable. Not today at least. ”After getting a glimpse you, I’ve forgotten..” he stated sweetly with a cheeky smile, a shameless attempt to flatter her as she sipped her drink rather judgmentally. Mal didn’t mind entertaining a pretty face.
Ruffling his hair with a "cool" air about him, Malcolm held a nonchalant expression, leaning against the bar as he focused on Evy’s body language. He was silent for a moment as he nursed his drink. She wasn’t smiling but Mal knew she didn’t typically hold a smile for no reason, which he liked. Evy tilted her head and stated whatever was causing misery wouldn’t matter to him either way. Shrugging his shoulders upwards lazily he leaned toward her, slowly creeping into her personal bubble. ”In reality, nothing really matters, though, right? We are but momentary grains of dust in some incomprehensibly vast universe.” he stated in a neutral drone, the corners of his lips raising upwards slowly at the very end to show he was making light of it.
A pair of shots appeared in front of them so he easily accepted one, knocking it back without flinching. After taking a breath and setting the empty glass on the bar he tilted his head to the side. ”So-Where’s Nate?” he finally asked, never one to beating around the bush. Mal and Nate were more acquaintances than anything so he didn't really care, he was more curious.

lose control, i won't crash Evy raised a curious brow. A few years ago, such a line might have made her swoon, but that felt like ages ago and like an entirely different girl. She supposed every tragedy and incident over the last few years shifted something in everyone. How could it not? After losing her older brother, suddenly nothing quite felt the same, and for a long time, Evy chased a way to fill the emptiness, especially when writing was insufficient. Her school burned down, and somehow, she escaped with Sarah’s help. Then, she was sent off to France for school while her best friend joined professional quidditch with her boyfriend, which was another thing.
And now? Evy wondered if she had somehow wasted the last, however long, slowly integrating Nathaniel Forrester into her plain little life, only for that also to be a waste. The thought made her feel bitter and angry once more. ”Really now? I didn’t realize Cursebreakers were so philosophical.” She commented, tone heavy with sarcasm. Flinching from the tequila hid her momentary reaction at the mention of Nate. Of course, he would ask, wouldn’t he? And why not? Had Evy not spent most of her free time with the man for the better part of what—almost two years or so by now?
”Excellent question.” Evy began, maintaining an even expression. ”Likely taking up someone else’s time with his miserable presence.” Where did all that come from? Who knew? She wasn’t bitter at all. ”But honestly, I don’t know—nor do I care.” As if Evy needed to send more signals she wasn’t interested in speaking or thinking about Nate or anything related. She was done dealing with the tortured artist routine, and this time, the anger kept all those good memories at bay rather than letting them creep slowly back into her consciousness. ”Another shot?”

”Maybe they aren't. I’ve taken a break from curse breaking to go on tour with my brother…” he revealed in his typical cool guy confidence. His break from curse breaking couldn’t come at a better time. He had been suffering from sleepless nights for months until Rue concocted sleeping potions for him. It made a worlds of a difference in his daily life. Now he spent weekends performing at festivals and small events with his brother and mates. The extra spare time had done Malcolm good, he found more time for his photography which resulted in paid gigs and projects with some artsy folks. There were a couple of times he got stopped in public by crying girls because of Jack which he always found fascinating. He'd never understood why girls would cry over his degenerate little bro.
Evy answered that Nate was probably off somewhere making someone miserable and he chuckled. That sounded about right. Well, the silent consensus was that Evy was drinking for the numb of it. Nobody drank a bottle of alcohol for fun and that’s a damn fact. Malcolm wouldn’t make her feel bad about that today though, not when he had a great opportunity to have fun. ”His loss.” he shrugged dismissively, eyes roving over to admire her features, all too happy to drop the subject of Nate.
His head cocked to the side with a hint of surprise when she mentioned another shot, ”You don’t have to twist my arm for a good time..” he agreed willingly, ordering another round of shots for them, gesturing for the bartender to make doubles. Mal loved any reason to get shit faced. Tilting his head back, he swallowed unflinchingly. Something told him he should pry Evy away from the bar before she made herself sick. Mal loved drunk girls but he didn't quite enjoy taking care of them. Evy didn't seem like the sloppy type though.
Leaning in toward her personal bubble, he folded over to lean into her ear since the music was loud, ”Do you dance?” Mal asked Evy curiously, smiling as he gave her a playful shimmy of the shoulders. He was already expecting her to say no since she was more of the 'uptight' type. Maybe he could change that.
