Rhys arrived approximately ten minutes before their arranged time. Considering Claire had not given him much grief, surprisingly, for requesting they change their plans to an earlier day, the last thing he needed was a lecture on punctuality. It also gave Rhys time to throw back a whisky on his own. One thing Rhys quickly learned was mentioning his daughter sometimes bought him some leeway. His friends all loved her, often forgetting Rhys was present. It was amusing at times, and even if Rhys wanted to be annoyed, he couldn’t find it in himself as he watched how loved his daughter was.
So, for all intents and purposes, he was merely Amelia’s chauffeur at this point. His phone was out in his hand as Rhys sorted a few last pictures of Amelia from the previous Friday with Juni into the folder where he kept all content relating to her. Naturally, Claire would want updates or the latest debrief on the matter. The following day, Sage wanted a sort of family dinner. One of those times when Amelia saw her parents in the same room for more than fifteen minutes. This was fine by Rhys, of course, no matter how Sage acted around him. They were friendly and cordial as they focused on co-parenting. However, suffice it to say Amelia would most certainly not have a full-blooded sibling in this lifetime.
Hearing the chair move, his eyes darted up to the familiar blonde. It was a long-time friendship that neither expected but one that stuck with the tenacity to match a permanent sticky charm. ”As requested.” Rhys handed over his phone, open to a picture of Amelia where Claire could browse as she liked. He’d long since accepted his fate that his daughter would always capture their attention.
