Taylor Renée JACKSON
WAND 10⅚ inches, eastern hemlock, phoenix feather core, whippy
APPEARANCE Taylor is biracial, with a Black mother and a white father. She has light brown skin, dark green eyes, and black hair, which she typically wears mid-length and relaxed. Standing at just 5'2", she has an athletic but petite build. Her ears are pierced once on each earlobe. Regardless of whether she's working, Taylor tends to dress very fashionably, wearing classic silhouettes and timeless pieces. She prefers to wear a mix of magical and non-magical clothing items when she can. | pronunciation TAY-luhr Reh-NAY JAHK-suhn nickname T, Tay, Tay-Tay Jocasta Sloane Archer (birth name) age & birthday 29 25 December 1999 gender & pronouns Cisgender female; she/her pronouns blood status Pure-blood (believes she's a half-blood) sexuality Heterosexual face claim Kat Graham | |||||||||||||||||||||||
PERSONALITY Through her school years at Ilvermorny, Taylor was that girl—the sweet, bubbly popular girl, the one who could do no wrong. As she has grown, however, she has had to come to terms with other people's perceptions of her privilege and has tried to prove that she hasn't had everything handed to her on a silver platter. The truth is that Taylor is hard-working and well-meaning; she wouldn't do anything to offend anyone maliciously, but she has had to learn how to interact with those from backgrounds other than her own and make her way in the world beyond the bubble in which she was raised. Taylor takes her job as an Auror seriously. She prefers to take the "good cop" role when needed and knows that she doesn't fit the stereotype of the average Auror, which she has been able to use to her advantage. Taylor tries her best and pushes herself in her career, which also means that she can become hard on herself when things don't go as she expects. Being assigned to work in London isn't the best thing she's ever been asked to do, in her view, but she'd rather grin and bear it than raise a fuss, especially because she is aware that it isn't actually the worst assignment she could get. Off the clock, Taylor is outgoing and still tends to lead a more expensive lifestyle than she would otherwise be able to afford without her father's money. She would argue that she isn't "high maintenance", but she really is. Taylor most fears having the Dark Arts see a resurgence in the United States in the same way that it did on the other side of the Atlantic because of Elaine Dupree, which is yet another reason why she isn't exactly thrilled with her latest assignment. ORIGIN & RELATIONS Born in England, unbeknownst to her Raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Previously living in New York, New York, USA father: Talmage "Tal" Jackson, 66, retired magical economist and former Keeper of Treasure and Dragots for MACUSA, pure-blood; Taylor assumes he's a widower mother: Leda Archer; real identity unknown to Taylor Her whole life, Taylor has been told that her mother died in childbirth. She believes that her mother's name was Renée Jackson (née Smith) and that she was a No-Maj born in 1969. fraternal twin: jude sinclair archer, 29, Curse-Breaker, pure-blood; existence unknown to Taylor half-siblings by Leda (existence unknown to Taylor): ___ ___ Archer (fraternal twin) - older half-brother ___ ___ Archer (fraternal twin) - older half-sister ___ ___ Archer - younger half-sister ___ ___ Archer - younger half-sister ___ ___ Archer - younger half-sister HISTORY Based on what Taylor believes, she was born on Christmas Day in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1999, and that she was given her middle name after her late mother, who died in childbirth. That isn't the exact version of events, though. Taylor was born on Christmas in 1999, but she was born to Leda Archer in England, the younger of a set of illegitimate fraternal twins. Her biological father re-entered the picture that night, struck a deal with her mother and the father of her other children to take her back to the United States with him, and Taylor has remained none the wiser about what really transpired in the first hours of her life. Other than that, Taylor was raised by her single father, a prominent magical economist, in a world of relative privilege. She had photographs of her "late" mother and was comforted by how much she resembled her and her father's stories about what she had been like when she was alive. It was just her and her father, and the two of them were very close to one another. Taylor fit the stereotype of being "daddy's little girl", and she loved it. Taylor was educated in a magical homeschool cooperative until she was old enough to attend Ilvermorny, and she was already viewed as gifted in her elementary years. At Ilvermorny, she was Sorted into Wampus, and she continued to succeed in her training as a witch. She was one of the most popular girls in her year, helpful to others, athletic, and a hard-working student to boot, making her experience through her school years an overwhelmingly positive one. Her successes all around continued into her choice of career. She applied and was selected to train as a MACUSA Auror in New York City, during which time her father had been appointed as the magical government's Keeper of Treasure and Dragots. Despite her father's political power and some concerns that she was only in Auror training because of it, Taylor held her own and even learned Legilimency, with the aim of improving her skills in interrogation. Life beyond training, though, was more challenging than Taylor anticipated, and she soon realized that she was underprepared for the world outside the sheltered environments in which she had spent her time until then. Training was closer to what Ilvermorny had been—a lot of theory with some simulations of what she might encounter "out there"—but really enforcing MACUSA's laws in a city as big as New York put into perspective how little she knew. The Dark Arts were real, and her Legilimency made her even more aware of how often bad things happened to good people. As an Auror, Taylor knew of some of the major events going on in the magical world outside the United States, but her main focus was in relation to what she needed to do for work to thwart copycat attacks and the like. The vandalism that kept Ilvermorny closed for a few years was frustrating to her because she felt it could have been easily prevented—an opinion that only intensified the more she heard about what the kids from Ilvermorny were having to go through at Hogwarts. While some of her MACUSA colleagues were sent to London to assist the British Ministry of Magic after the destruction of Azkaban, Taylor remained in New York City and was glad for it. Things on the other side of the Atlantic weren't getting any better on the whole, and the situation seemed especially bleak when Hogwarts, the supposed safe haven for the students from Ilvermorny, was destroyed by Elaine Dupree in a blaze of Fiendfyre. The United States had its own problems, of course, but nothing like that. With foreign aid still being provided by MACUSA to the British Ministry of Magic by 2029, Taylor was temporarily reassigned to work in London to cover for another MACUSA Auror on family leave beginning in May. Thus, Taylor packed her bags (and her hopes of getting something positive from the experience) and set off for her Portkey. SITE EVENTS REACTION Being that Taylor has lived in the United States until May 2029 and has no (known) connections to the United Kingdom, her views on the major site events so far have been colored by her role as an Auror for MACUSA and the American perspectives on the events that have involved the students who came to Hogwarts from Ilvermorny. In general, she hasn't been too thrilled with how the British Ministry of Magic has been handling the past few years, and there are definitely things that she feels she would have done differently if she had been in charge. Since she isn't in charge, though, she has sucked it up and come across the pond to serve as part of MACUSA's aid to the Azkaban rebuilding team. WANT AD
