Desirae knew about Zander. She knew how much time she'd been spending with him, and that she was developing strong feelings for the boy.
Braelynn sat alone, on a bench on the grounds far from any other students. It was a chilly day, but she couldn't feel it. What was she supposed to do? Up until now, Bay had merely been an... observer of sorts with Elaine and her followers, never forced o actually participate. With this new knowledge, Desirae was demanding her cooperation. In return, Bay would get one thing. Zander's assured safety... She knew what she had to do.
She had to break things off with Zander. Now.
And, ironically, she could hear his guitar, carried in the wind. Determined, she stood, following the music. Finally she spotted him, and stopped mid step. Her heart was pounding as she watched him play. Could she really do this? "Hi, Zander." She tried to put on a smile, to hide the pain she was feeling...
@zander

Zander was writing a new song.
Big surprise there! But really, this one was inspired by a certain girl he had been teaching the guitar to lately. A girl who disappeared without explanation and reappeared with just as much allure and mystery as before. A girl who had a smile that melted his heart, passion that rivaled his and a fire in her eyes that told him there was more than he even knew. And he wanted to know everything. He wanted to know every single detail about this girl, inside and out.
He had no doubt he was in love with her. No doubt at all.
As if by magic - no - undoubtedly by magic she appeared before him on the steps. He stopped playing in order to lift a hand and wave to her. "Lynn, hey!" he said with a giant grin. But then he saw the look on her face... the forced smile... "whats up?"

That grin.
Braelynn froze, her breath catching in her chest, and her heart fluttering at the sound of the nickname only he called her. It nearly broke her resolve right then and there. How was she ever supposed to do this? No, she had to. If she didn't, he'd get hurt. Either by Elaine or Desirae's hands... or her own. How could she have been so stupid as to let herself fall for him..?
"I... Well..." She stopped, unable to form the sentence. She pursed her lips together, that forced smile vanishing without a trace as her true feelings finally cut through. She looked at him. "I think..." This time her voice caught, and refused to return. She couldn't do this. Even just thinking about it was breaking her heart. Her gaze dropped to the ground as she squeezed her eyes shut. It'd be the only way she'd spit it out.
"Us. It's a bad idea..."

As she struggled to speak, Zander lifted his guitar over his head in order to lean it against the wall nearby. Zander hated to see her in any kind of pain, that was something he had known since day one. Whatever was going on, he had to put a stop to it-there was no question about it. He was swiftly moving to her but when her gaze dropped, he stopped.
What? What did she say? It was a bad idea?
His heart stopped beating his his throat as he took a breath, continuing his steps toward her with an even stronger resolve. Without hesitation, he swept both of her hands into his, "Braelynn, hey. Whoever-whatever is making you say this... don't. Please don't," he released one of her hands in order to tap her chin, encouraging her to look up at him...

Braelynn couldn't bring herself to look at him. Just hearing his reaction was enough. It hurt, more then she thought it would. In fact, her heart had never hurt like this. She knew she... That she loved Zander. Not liked. Not simply crushed on. Her heart had decided quickly that it loved this carefree young man. But they were in different worlds, worlds that would soon be at odds, and to try and save him, she'd be forced to do unspeakable things.
His hands were warm and made her heart skip a beat as he took her own, begging her not to do this. There wasn't a choice though. "I'm sorry... I can't...." She stopped, swallowing hard as she felt the urge to cry. She never cried. She felt his fingers under her chin, gently trying to make her look up at him. She resisted for a moment, but finally shifted, her eyes opening as she met his gaze. Tears hadn't fallen yet, thankfully. "I have to..."

Where was this coming from? What was causing this? No doubt his sisters had something to do with it, but what could they do, really? What could they do to stop Braelynns happiness? Or his? How did they have the right?
He pushed down the inevitable anger that was boiling inside him. It was easy to do considering she finally made eye contact with him. Her voice was quivering, so were her eyes. The thought of seeing her cry made his heart break into a thousand pieces, pieces he knew only her smile would put back together. His gaze softened, his eyebrows slightly lifting as he prepared to speak again. "You don't have to. You have to follow...your heart," a cheesy thing to day, but that didn't make it any less true.
"I don't want to lose you," he said, his voice growing incredibly soft now.

Braelynn tightened her grip, holding his hand tightly, as if afraid it would disappear if she let go. She knew she had to though. What other choice did she have?
Meeting his gaze was a bad idea. As she stared up into those eyes that had made her heart melt so many times, she could see that she was hurting him. That she was breaking his heart to. She hesitated, pursing her lips tightly together. As he spoke, a tear finally fell. If only that was true. She wished it was. That she could actually follow her heart. "That's not how it works in my world..." Not only was their Desirae and her threads to worry about, but her parents would never approved. Her future had been planned out for her when she was an infant, and she couldn't stray from that path.
"I don't want to lose you either, Zander. Which is why I have to." She knew it didn't make sense. She could never tell him why though, why leaving him, was the only way she could protect him.

As a tear fell from her cheek, Zanders heart broke again-if that was even possible. He lifted his hand from her chin to catch the tear with his thumb. He then moving his and to wrap around the back of her neck, into her hair. That's not how it works in my world, she said. He couldn't imagine being in that world, where your family didn't support your choices. Didn't agree with what made you happy. But he was part of that world now, because she was.
What she said next though, was incredibly confusing. Zander, wasn't always the brightest bulb, and didn't catch that this meant someone had threatened him. No, he just figured it was some deeper issue that he didn't want to question. He shook his head, "then we'll leave. You and me, we won't have to answer to anyone. Anyone," he emphasized. His eyes flickered down to her lips then.
He had never kissed this girl, this girl whom he was madly in love with. He had the desire to be close to her, but that wasn't a pressing issue. Now, in this moment, he didn't know if words could explain what he was feeling anymore.
So he kissed her. He pulled her to him using the hand in her hair while the other released her hand in order to find its place at her back. She was shorter than him, and he had to bend down and pull her upwards, towards his lips.

Braelynn tried to smile as he wiped the tear away, but she just couldn't. It wouldn't come, even those well trained, forced smiled she'd spent years perfecting. She just... couldn't. Not right now.
Her breath caught in her chest as he spoke those words. then we'll leave. You and me, we won't have to answer to anyone. Anyone.. It sounded... wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Unreal. "Zander..." She didn't know what to say. She wanted to say yes. Heavens, she wanted to go. To forget about everything else and just be with him. Again.. That wasn't how it worked in her world though... And Elaine... Desirae... They would find them. She knew they would. His grip tightened at the back of her neck, gently pulling her forward, and she knew what was about to happen.
Braelynn, surprisingly, had never kissed another person in her life. With her betrothal, she'd never let herself. But as his lips pressed against hers, she knew that this was right. It felt natural, and as his other arm wrapped around her, pulling her even closer and tightly into his arms she felt like she belonged. For once in her life. She kissed him back, having to rise a little on her toes her hands reaching up to wrap around his neck and laced her fingers in his own hair.

It seemed an eternity that they stood there, wrapped in each others arms, lips on each others lips. Zander had kissed before, one or two people, but it had never been like this. It had never felt so real, so sure. The other kisses had seemed whimsical, foolish and full of childish ideals. This was something else. This was real life, no, this was his life. She was his life.
He finally pulled his lips away, but only just enough to press his forehead to hers. "Braelynn... promise me you'll think about it. About me," he said. He licked his lips, shaking his head a little bit against her. "Please."

Braelynn didn't want this to end. Because when they kissed, the world didn't matter. It was just them. There was no Hogwarts. No Desirae or Elaine. Just her, and Zander. She wanted to be with Zander, with every fiber of her body.
He was the first to break the kiss, but didn't pull away, instead he pressed his forward against her own. She stared deeply into his eyes as she spoke, her lips still tingling and his warm breath on her cheeks. "You're all I ever think about anymore." She whispered, her fingers tightening a little around his neck so he'd know she meant it. "Ever since I met you, Zander, I haven't stopping thinking about you."
What was she doing? This wasn't why she'd come... But yet... It was what she wanted. More then anything. But... Could she protect him from the darkness that was coming, and still be with him?

He couldn't help the grin that spread across his face as she spoke. As she spoke of him, of thinking of him. As she tightened her grip on his neck, he could tell that she meant every word she was saying. He nodded, only slightly as to not have to pull away. "Me too, Bay. Me too," he agreed. He took in a deep breath, keeping his eyes on hers. Another moment passed, maybe a thousand of them, before he was finally able to speak again. Able to move again. He pulled back, just a little, "but why did you... what's stopping you?"

That grin of his. The one that made her heart melt every time. Her own, very small, but warm smile responded. Especially when she heard him speak. Him too. It wasn't her that felt this overwhelming pull to the other. And the way he'd kissed her... She was sure of his feelings. Feelings that matched her own.
As he pulled back just a little, asking her what was stopping her, reality came crashing back down on her. That was the question wasn't it... What was stopping her. She couldn't tell him. What would he think if he knew? How would he feel about her? Her hands slipped from around his neck and down to his chest where they balled into fists, her eyes never looked away though. "It's... It's complicated, Zander."

As she moved her hands from his neck he moved his too, taking them from her back and her hair in order to cover her own small, fragile hands, with his. He got the answer he expected, but that didn't make him happy about it. He had a feeling she wouldn't tell him and he didn't want to force her to. He nodded, leaning forward again to let his lips gently touch her forehead. He planted a kiss there before pulling back again to look into her eyes. "Okay. It's complicated. So we don't worry about it yet. We just keep... keep being together until the last second we possibly can," he was planning on that last second being when one of them died, but he'd rather that be later than sooner...

How could he be so... accepting? Braelynn held his hands tightly, still as if afraid they'd slip away. She knew they would. She'd have to let him go. But she desperately didn't want to. He was one of the few good things in her life, a bright light in the darkness she was surrounded by, casting away the shadows. He was determined though, making it clear that he wasn't going anywhere, refusing to accept her attempt to separate. She closed her eyes. When he learned the truth, that would change...
"Someday. I'll tell you. Just promise me one thing." She opened her eyes, looking back up at him. "Please remember today. When you find out, remember today." She repeated, emphasizing how important it was. It wouldn't make sense now, but it would... When everything came to light.
