Jamie was finally, finally done with her classes for the week. It was Friday afternoon and she had mounds of homework to complete over the weekend, but at least she wouldn't be stuck listening to her professors drone on when she could just as easily learn the material on her own. She was probably going to be able to grind through her Charms work and perhaps Alchemy as well before dinner, and if she worked quickly enough, she could finish her star chart for Astronomy in one night. Secure in the fact that she had a semi-decent plan, Jamie let out a breath. She needed to calm down and relax before she went insane. Too bad there was no time left for relaxing.
Returning to her common room in the most circuitous way possible would help her clear her head, Jamie decided. If anyone asked her why it took fifteen minutes to get there, it was still entirely plausible that she got lost. Jamie was a very good loser, but also a particularly good finder. No one could call her on her bluff, though. Rounding a blind corner with her head still in other places, Jamie was very, very surprised when she ran into another body.
Damnit.

Adrian knew he had siblings. I mean, really? How common was the last name Greyback? Sure, he'd chosen to go by the name, but still. It wasn't everyday you heard it. And usually when you heard the name it was closely followed by pitchforks and torches and a mob determined to hunt Adrian's father. Thankfully, Adrian didn't know the man in any regard, simply that he'd supplied half of his genes. But, at his time at Hogwarts, he knew of two other Greybacks. A girl older then him, and a boy younger. Up until now, he'd refused to interact with both of them. Well, more like he avoided them like his life depended on it. Basically your typical teenage boy in serious denial.
Adrian was wandering the third floor corridors, hands stuffed deep in his pockets and his down. In a foul mood, obviously. He usually was around this time of month. It was a week before the next full moon, and he was already starting to feel it's affects. The anxiety it created, the inability to sit still or focus on any task for more then a few moments. He was used to it, and lived with it his whole life, but he still never liked it. Lily on the other hand? She was the perfect example of the saying "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". While not scorned, she was proving to be a force to be reckoned with. He'd tried sitting on her, to get her to calm down. It wasn't a good idea, and his arm still hurt. So, today, he decided to take a walk then force her to calm down. He wasn't a punch bag, after all!
He didn't see the person come around the corner, but he did feel them smack right into him with enough forced to knock them both over. Adrian couldn't get his hands out of his pocket in time to catch himself, and landed flat on his back. "... Ow." Dazed, and seriously confused, he sat up, his eyes a little wide as he tried to piece together what had just happened. And that was when he saw her. One of the people he'd spent the last five years mastering the art of avoiding.

There were very few people that Jamie would have enjoyed running into, but there were even fewer people that she would have hated running into. Naturally, she had stumbled upon someone who fell in the latter category. Of her two half-brothers (well, the two that she knew about), one of them seemed to make a concerted effort never to be around her, and the other just never ended up around her in the first place. The former was currently sprawled on the floor across from her, looking perhaps more dazed than she was. Standing up quickly, Jamie stared down at her half-brother, eyes wide. Oh dear. She thrust out her hand to try to help him up.
“I am so sorry.” A flush ran across her cheekbones as Jamie continued to keep her hand out. “I…didn’t see you.” She finished lamely. Ugh. She wasn’t particularly good strangers, but she was especially not good with strangers who were also related to her. It was just bizarre. She didn’t know if there was something else that she should, by etiquette, say. The only thing she could think of was ‘I’m an awful sister’, but she was no more his sister than the portrait of the Fat Lady was. They hadn’t grown up together, and she only knew his name because she had seen him be sorted into Gryffindor. Finally giving up on finding something to say, Jamie turned her eyes to the ground and tried not to embarrass herself any further.

Adrian was seriously contemplating turning tail and booking it out of here. He usually did when he saw Jamie. She probably knew it too. In his five years, he had never spoken to her. Never asked her if she really was his sister... He just... Okay, it didn't make sense. Logically he knew he should get to the bottom of it. Emotionally though he just wasn't ready for that whole mess. But here he was, sitting on the floor, staring at the girl who he was pretty sure was his half sister, seriously considering running while he looked sincerely sorry.
Dang girls. How was he supposed to run when they gave him that look?
He eyed the hand she offered down to him warily, before finally taking it and pulling himself to his feet. "It's fine." He muttered quickly, stuffing his hands in his bottoms and shifting awkwardly from foot to foot. "It's... um.... Jamie... right..?" He asked, hesitating with almost every word while every bone in his body told him to run. In all his years of avoiding her though, he did have one question. Something he'd always wanted to know but never had the courage to ask.
If she really was his half sister... Was she also a werewolf?

It made Jamie feel slightly better that her half-brother was handling this experience with just as much grace as she was - that was, little grace at all. Five years had passed when they were in school together without speaking, five years that couldn't be erased. Still, the idea of talking to Adrian, of being his sister, was...appealing, to say the least. The older she got, the more lonely Jamie felt, trapped by the wolf inside of her. She was a werewolf, her father was a werewolf, and therefore it followed that her half-brother was a werewolf as well - not that she was going to tell him that.
"Yup, that's me." It made sense that he knew her name - they were both Quidditch players, had even played in a match or two against each other. She had seen him Sorted. Still, it felt kind of necessary to confirm his name as well. "Adrian. right?" She paused, and took a deep breath. This was the moment of truth. "Adrian Greyback. Fenrir was your father?" The word father felt right. Fenrir was never a dad. He disappeared, and their relationship was done. A question struck Jamie suddenly - had Fenrir abandoned his other children, too? Or was she the only one that had to live without a father? It was troubling. Jamie took a deep breath, letting the silence hang over them. "I'm sorry." She blurted out, not for the first time in their conversation, and not for the same reason. She was sorry - sorry that Fenrir had ruined Adrian's life like he had ruined hers. No one deserved to be a wolf.

This was so awkward....
Part of the reason he avoided his siblings so much was because he just didn't know how to... deal with them. He'd been raised an only child. He didn't know what it was like to have siblings. What did you talk to them about? What did you do with them? "Yeah, Adrian." he muttered as she verified his name. She continued though, which made him frown and tug on one of his curls. "Eh. Biologically. That's as far as it goes though." He responded. He'd personally never met his father before in his life. He only knew what he looked like from old wanted posters. "More like a 'gene donator'." A drian finally added. From what he'd heard, and read, even father seemed like to personal of a title for the man.
The next, socially appropriate response would be to ask her how she was doing or something. But Adrian wasn't to well versed on manners. He said what came to mind. "You too?" He blurted out without any hesitation. All the while he took a close look at her features, trying to see if there was any resemblance between them. A little around the mouth, not completely but similar. The eyes though. They were different colors, but shaped exactly the same. The longer he looked, the creepier it got and he quickly looked away.

Adrian, Jamie found, was very much her sibling. Sure, they didn’t look alike (well, their eyes were the same, but that hardly counted), but Adrian was a dead ringer for her in terms of social skills. It was a double-edged sword; she felt a camaraderie with him because of his total inability to communicate, but she also felt disconnected from him because of their total inability to communicate. She smiled just the slightest bit at his redefinition of their father. “Gene donator sounds about right.” Deep breath. Continue the conversation. “I look more like my mom, anyway. You don’t look like him, either, I don’t think.” That probably wasn’t the best way to phrase it - what if he didn't look like his mother? - but it was done.
“Yeah, me too.” She shrugged. “Did you inherit his…special condition, too?” Well. She hadn’t expected to ask that. Up until that point, she had been working under the assumption that her brother was a werewolf, too. Perhaps, though, he had been more fortunate than she. “Do you like strawberry soda?” She asked out without preamble. It was something her mother hated, but maybe if Adrian liked it too she could discover her source of the fondness for the drink. At the very least it was an interesting conversation starter when they were having a travesty of a talk.

It wasn’t that Adrian lacked social skills… It was more like his skills were… twisted. He excelled at lashing out at people when angry, and so thoroughly offending people to the point where several brawls had followed. It was manners he was lacking. But, as this conversation with his half sister continued, he was sensing that she, while no where near as bad as him, was quite similar in that regard.
”Yeah, I’m pretty sure I don’t look like a homicidal psychopath.” He, not so delicately, stated, an eyebrow raised. ”I take after my mother’s side of the family.” Adrian added after a moment.
Oh, so this was what she wanted to talk about? If he was a Werewolf? ”Inherited?” he spoke slowly, questioning. ”I think the only thing I ‘inherited’ from him is a bad reputation. But he made sure I carried on that ‘special condition’ later on.” There was a hint of anger then at the memory. You couldn’t be born a Werewolf. No, his father had tracked him down years later and forced the curse on him. For which he was now grateful, and wouldn’t give up for anything. Heck, he’d even let Lily convince him to bite her- Okay, Jamie did NOT need to know that bit.
”It’s… okay I guess?” Jamie’s question caught him off guard, both eyebrows raising as he spit out a reply before thinking. ”I like oranges though.” Where did THAT come from? Curses… He needed to get out of here. Jamie was actually getting him to talk and open up….

Jamie couldn’t help but let out a stunned half-chuckle when Adrian made a jab at their father’s psychopathy. They were both probably thinking about it, but to actually say it was something else. She wasn’t sure whether or not it was a joke to begin with, so she stopped herself after one short burst of laughter. She could get used to the Gryffindor sense of humor. Hufflepuffs, she found, preferred self-deprecation. Or maybe that was just Jamie. Either way, it was nice to have someone brasher and bolder around.
Why was he speaking as if lycanthropy was something that could only be given, not inherited? Jamie had been born a werewolf, that much she was sure of. Her mother would never lie to her like that. Perhaps it was just different for Adrian. Either way, the implication that her father – her gene donator – had come back to harm her half-brother, make him a monster like he was…that was disgusting. Fenrir never seemed to be able to stop.
Jamie was surprised, to say the least, when her brother actually answered her question. This was a start. She damn near had a heart attack when he contributed something of his own to the conversation. At the risk of sounding extremely creepy, Jamie took the admission and ran with it. “I love orange Skittles.” She enthused. “Have you ever had Skittles? I mean, they’re a Muggle thing, and I don’t know about your mum or anything, and I am so sorry, this sounds weird.” Her cheeks were once again flaming pink as she realized she had overstepped her boundaries. “My mother’s a Muggle.” She added meekly.

Adrian knew he needed to leave. Jamie was getting him to talk. And he was realizing she wasn't as annoying as he'd always believed. No, this wasn't going to happen. It was him, and his mom. He didn't need any more family. Definitely no father, and no siblings. He was happy the way things were. There was Lily too, couldn't forget her. But she'd weaseled her way in, and he wasn't letting her go anytime soon... BUT! The pack didn't need to be any bigger! Heck no!
Hands stuffed deep in his pockets, he hunched a bit, to make himself seem disinterested. It wasn't working well, and he could feel his muscles begining to coil in anticipation of running. "We don't have skittles in Germany" Was his response. He knew what they were now, of course, But he'd never tried them. He liked his german candy and chocolate. It was easy to find in England too since it was only a short plane ride away for muggles. "She's a witch." was his only remark when their mother's were brought up. His mother had never told him how he met Fenrir Greyback. Never talked about that part of her life in general. She'd gotten in a lot of trouble during that time, and preferred to put it behind her. He was fine with that, but sometimes.... Sometimes he wished he knew.

Jamie tried to keep a stupid grin from breaking across her face. They were talking, really talking! It was exhilarating in a way she hadn’t expected. She had a brother, and he was talking to her. She wondered what her mother would say if she saw this. Her mother, who hated her father. Okay, maybe her mother wouldn’t be thrilled about it, but that didn’t mean that Jamie couldn’t be happy anyways. She deserved a little happiness, Jamie thought.
Germany? Jamie quirked an eyebrow – she didn’t know Adrian was from Germany. She tucked the piece of knowledge away for future reference. “I can bring some for you, if you’d like.” Jamie offered before even realizing what she was saying. Maybe that was laying it on a bit too thick. Still, her mother sent her more Muggle candy than she could possibly eat, probably because she felt bad for shipping Jamie away to boarding school. That, combined with the Wizarding candy she often bought herself while at Hogsmeade, was more than enough sugar for any one person to consume. If it helped her get on Adrian’s good side, Jamie was more than happy to give away candy. “I’m sure she’s lovely.” Jamie said with a smile when Adrian mentioned his mother. Anyone who would raise a werewolf instead of giving them up was certainly lovely. Jamie wondered if one day, she would meet Adrian’s mother. She could dream, couldn’t she?

As much as Adrian hated to admit it, and he would deny it if ANYONE accused him of it, he actually didn't hate Jamie. She was... nice. And easy to talk to. Something that horrified the boy who tried to stay as far from his siblings as possible. Because it meant she could get him to like her. And to make it worse, he was revealing personal information about himself! Like... letting her get to know him! This was bad. Very bad.
"No, it's okay." He forced himself to say, despite the curiosity he felt to try it. He couldn't though. Couldn't because it meant he'd have to agree to talking to her again. Something he both did, and didn't want.... Oh heavens, he was so confused! Yup definitely time to run. Offering only a nod as he complimented his mother, he tried not to smile, though there was a hint of it.
"I.... have to go..." Adrian finally blurted out. Offering no other explanation as to why, he turned and left. Quickly. Very quickly. Yeah, he was on the verge of running and barely managing to stop himself. As soon as he was out of sight though he was running. Running back to the safety of the Gryffindor common room where he knew he'd be safe from half siblings getting into his head.
