It was the most wonderful time of the year.

It was April Fools’ Day and this was the day that Adrian and Cassidy’s minds were at their peak of creativity. This had been going on for a couple of years, for as long as Hogwarts could remember. In fact, they were rather notorious for their pranks and it was such an ideal duo. The spontaneity of a Gryffindor and the cunningness of a Slytherin combined together had a rather deadly effect.

“Hiding from Lily?” Cass repeated incredulously, giving her partner a look as she was gathering a couple of things needed for the day. “I don’t see any reason to hide from her. She’s a lovely lass, Adrian.”

Adrian was, indeed, hiding from Lily.

This was probably the best 'holiday' of the year, a day where he could get away with pulling every stunt imaginable with his usual partner in crime, Cassidy. After about the third prank he'd pulled on Lily though, he'd realized that targeting his friend wasn't exactly the brightest idea. The look she'd given him had sent a chill down his spine, and he'd run for it.

He and Cass were currently raiding a broom closet for a few materials they were running low on. She was sorting through their find, while Adrian was pressed against the wall behind a suit of armor, peaking around it for any signs of the angry red head. When he was called out on the act, he shot Cassidy a sour look. "No!" He retorted quickly. As she continued though, that sour look turned into a raised eyebrow. "Lovely lass?" He asked, stepping away from the wall and moving to pat her on the head, like a child. "You poor, poor child. I wish I could be so innocent and naive." He was grinning wickedly now as he teased her ruthlessly.

That was when he... well, smelled wasn't the right word. Sensed was a better word. Ever since Lily had become a Werewolf they had this unexplainabled ability of finding each other. Usually he thought it was hilarious. Today? Not so much. "Crud." He muttered as he pinned himself back behind the armor. He looked silly, and it made no sense to onlookers because Lily wasn't in sight yet... But she was coming. He knew it.

YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND IN ME

"You know zis is a terrible idea, right?" RJ whined as he stood watch outside the broom closet watching Adrian and Cassidy plunder inside. He was used to Adrian's shenanigans. They had been pretty much inseparable since first year, and this wasn't the first time RJ had been dragged into one of Adrian's schemes. It would hardly be the last.

Listening to the two of them bicker in the broom closet was fairly entertaining. It wasn't hard to tell that Adrian was hiding from Lily. RJ didn't know the whole story, but there was some interesting chemistry between the two; he sometimes brought it up just to see the flush rise to Adrian's cheeks.

RJ looked around frantically when he heard "crud". He knew at any moment a professor would swoop in and put them all in detention -again- for being somewhere they weren't supposed to be. But RJ saw no one down the hallway. Just emptiness. Sometimes he envied his friend's sense of smell. Sometimes he cursed it. RJ got flustered over getting caught before it was even close to happening.

"If you get me detention again, I will never speak to you again," he said over his shoulder. It was a lie, of course. But it was the principle.

"ADRIAN. CHRISTOPH. GREYBACK." A voice burst down the hallway. The voice of a hundred fears, a thousand lions, ten million wolves. She was covered from head to toe in some sort of muck the consistency of egg whites. The goo was multi-colored so it looked like a cartoon unicorn had vomited all over her. She had tried getting it off several times with several spells and water but to no avail. She had no doubt who was behind this. She wasn't stupid. She knew what day it was. At first she had laughed, until she realized that it wasn't coming off.

She stopped in her tracks, sniffing the air for a moment. She could smell it, his fear. And his delicious Adrian smell that he always had-but that wasn't important. She took a step back, then two more before turning the corner and seeing RJ standing outside a door. She rolled her neck once before stepping forward, approaching him. "RJ, babe, I hope you're prepared to see this," she said with a sickeningly sweet voice before turning toward the closet.

She stepped in, giving Cass a nod, "Cassidy," then in a swift movement she lifted her leg in a roundhouse kick, knocking the head off the statue to reveal a flattened Adrian behind it. She smiled, "Hey darlin'," she said before reaching forward to knock the armor aside with one hand and firmly clutching the front of Adrians shirt with the other.

It was quite an amusing sight indeed, although Cass worried that Lily's yelling might have grabbed someone's attention. She glanced at Lily up and down once more, still marvelled by her beauty, before directing her attention towards poor Adrian. She continued to gather things into her hands at the same time, while her and RJ watched the scene unfold before them.

"The weird thing is," she began to converse with RJ. "is that we're in cahoots with him, but I like how Adrian is always the one being targeted. It's quite hilarious to watch, actually."

"No you wouldn't. You'd miss me to much, RJ." Adrian retorted, as he refused to move from his spot, though he was grinning like a fool. RJ had to put up with quite a few of his crazy antics, and had to pay the consequences more then once. It'd probably been a relief when Cassidy joined their little troupe and took a good portion of the blame that would have gone RJ's way. That didn't mean he was in the clear though.

Adrian felt his blood run cold as he heard his full name echo through the corridor, that giant grin of his instantly disappearing. He knew that voice, but more specifically he knew that tone. He didn't need to see Lily to know how angry she was, or that she was probably planning on flaying him upon sight. Ah, well, at least he'd had a good 16 years of life up until now. She'd caught his scent, he was sure of it, and he could sense her getting closer and closer. And then.. She was there. He could hear her quite clearly warning RJ about what was about to happen, and then felt a rush of air against his face as the helmet of the suit of armor was kicked off, revealing a thoroughly pissed off Lily. The muck didn't help either, it just made her look even more menacing. As her fingers closed on the front of his shirt, he held his hands up in surrender and offered the most charming smile he could. "Lily! You're looking good, did you do something new with your hair?" He tried to sound totally and completely calm, but... There was still that hint of fear.

That was when he felt a tremor. An earthquake? That wasn't right, they never had earthquakes. But then he smelled something. Smoke. That smile vanished and his nose wrinkled. It wasn't strong, he could barely pick it up with his heightened sense of smell. "Do you smell that...?" He whispered, so only Lily, who stood closest to him, would hear.

RJ only half-listened to Cassidy, nodding casually. He was still on hyper alert for the sound of any professors that might be approaching. But the voice he hear wasn't that of a professor, and he didn't need a werewolf's sense of smell to know that Lily was fast approaching. Her shout resonated through the hall like the roar of a lion - a very angry lion.

Despite towering over the girl by several inches, RJ flinched and looked away when Lily spoke to her. He could have easily grabbed the girl by the neck and flung her around like a rag doll, but the half-giant cowered as the fiery redhead spoke to him. Adrian may have been his best friend, but he wasn't foolish enough to try to defend his friend from the girl's wrath.

RJ watched with something that was half-amusement and half-fear as Lily kicked the head of the statue and grabbed Adrian. He felt pity for the statue. It was just doing its job of guarding the broom closet. RJ groaned as Adrian commented on the goo covering Lily's hair. Had it been any other situation - maybe out in the courtyard or the Great Hall by themselves - he might have laughed. But with Lily holding up his best friend by the shirt, now was hardly the time for jokes. "Too soon, bro," he muttered. "Too soon."

At the mention of her hair, Lily growled and tightened her grip on his shirt, pulling him closer so that their noses were touching. RJ had a good point. "Get. This. Goo. Out. Of. My. Hair," she glared then the slight tremor happened and the smell of smoke lifted to her nostrils. Her anger was suddenly replaced by a serious look, "yeah... yeah, I do." She kept her hand clutched to his shirt as she turned to the others "do you guys hear something?" she asked as her ears picked up crashing sounds in the distance. And then screaming...

She released Adrian by shoving him back into the closet before stepping out to look down the hall. "Somethings wrong," she said, stepping fully out of the closet, her wand in hand.

It was always annoying when serious things distracted her from kicking Adrians butt, however it was probably better to let it go for the time being. She turned back to point a finger at him, "get out here. And don't think I'm forgetting about this," she threatened before turning her focus back to the other two. "Wands out, I reckon," she said firmly.

"Lily, wait up!"

Cass ran after the girl, brandishing her wand at the same time, but not before telling (more like demanding) RJ to keep an eye on Adrian. She had heard the screams too and she pranked enough people to recognise that this was clearly not the scream of someone who had just been a victim of a prank. Something had happened in the castle and this was the time to apply what they had learnt in Defense Against the Dark Arts, but there was no denying that the fear is rather real. What was going on?

She quickly picked up her pace, matching it with the fiery redhead in front of her. "Lily, those are clearly NOT screams of people being pranked, that's one thing I'm sure about."

Adrian knew Lily wouldn't forget this. She'd get him later for the prank. But when they smelled the smoke, they seemed to call a silent truce. Well... Almost. One unexpect and strong shove threw Adrian back against the wall as Lily stalked out, her wand already out. Sighing, Adrian ran his fingers through his hair. Girls.... Can't live with them..... Yup, just can't live with them. Reluctantly he stepped out of the closed. "You want me out but push me back in, make up your mind, woman." he grumbled as he pulled out his own wand.

The air was tense. Something was seriously wrong, he could just feel it. And for some reason he felt... protective? Wait, where was that emotion coming from? And it sure as heck wasn't towards Lily! As he jogged to catch up to the girls though, he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. The closer they got to the sound, the more on edge he felt... Without meaning, he growled deep in his chest, his nose wrinkling with disgust from the smoke and a sudden desire to stop Lily from going any farther. "We shouldn't go this way..."

When two of your companions were werewolves, it was very easy to be left out of the loop. RJ watched in confusion as Adrian and Lily almost literally began to bristle with some tense emotion. When Lily told them to brandish their wands, RJ did so obediently and followed the girls, though he wasn't entirely sure why he was doing it. All he knew was that something was very wrong.

RJ didn't like conflict. In fact, he avoided it at all costs. And watching the way the two werewolves were acting, he knew that somehow, somewhere, an intense conflict was going on in the castle. His mind went to his older brother, and he began to worry. He knew Carcer could hold his own in whatever was happening, but he still wished he at least knew where his brother was.

When Adrian held them back from going any further down the hallway, RJ felt his fear get the better of him. He froze in his tracks, refusing to go anywhere until he got some kind of explanation. "Someone want to explain to me what is going on?"

Lily could clearly hear the screams now as they turned the corner to a more open hallway. Something was happening in the stairwells or just around the next bend. Lily stopped when Adrian spoke, suggesting that they don't go that way. Cass was right, those were not playful screams. Something seriously evil was going on. Lily took a step back, her shoulder brushing Adrian as she did so. She turned to look up at RJ. "I... don't know, RJ. I can hear screaming and... smoke, there's smoke," she tightened her grip on her wand and lowered her free hand beside her, clasping her fingers around Adrians. "Adrians right. We should go this way. But what about James? Carcer? Jamie?" she named off some of the siblings in this group, raising an eyebrow at both RJ and Adrian in turn.

"We can't do nothing," she turned to Cass now, willing the girl to back her up.

As Lily said the names of other people, Cassidy observed the reactions on her face, as well as Adrian and RJ. She knew that there were names of people important to them and as Lily had stated her older brother's name first, there was almost little doubt that the other two were the siblings of the boys as well. They had siblings waiting for them, worrying for their safety and although Cassidy could relate, having a brother herself, at least he wasn't a student of Hogwarts and that meant he was not exposed to the danger of being in the wizarding world (thank God).

"Guys," she began, agreeing inwardly with the girl's statement. "I'll go ahead and check out what's going on. I'll find you guys once I do. I wanna check it out myself - my curiosity is burning."

Without waiting for a response from the other three, Cassidy went ahead to join the fray or whatever was going on.

Adrian felt a wave of comfort when Lily grabbed his hand. They weren't together, despite the entire school thinking they were. No, their connection was far deeper then that. Lily stirred up emotions so wild and ancient, emotions he didn't know he was capable of feeling. They scared, and excited him in the same moment. So, he held her hand. "They'll be fine." He almost snapped when she mentioned all their siblings. "I'd like to see someone try to take on Carcer." Being half giant must have it's perks, and being best friends with one had even more. He knew who he'd be jumping behind if a malicious curse came his way. Thank goodness for spell proof genes! Jamie though.... That concerned him a bit. Where did THOSE emotions come from? He wasn't close to her at all! Why did he feel.... protective? Like he'd want to rip someone's throat out if he was hurt? No, bad. Stop thinking like that, Adrian!

And then, Cassidy was running off. His eyes widened. "Don't you dare-" She was already gone though. And there was a burning in his chest. Angry, and savage burning. Why did he feel like they wouldn't be seeing her again...? He looked at RJ and Lily. Hoping one of them would be able to understand that look in his eyes. "We need to stop her." He released Lily's hand, reluctantly, as he ran after the girl. He'd almost reached the end of the hall when an explosion went off. So close that he was thrown back and slammed into the opposite wall.
