He vaguely heard her explanation about Desirae and the spiders, but everything felt fuzzy. He knew what it was like to faint, and part of him thought that was coming. But no, he held his ground. He turned his eyes back to her in time to talking about Ethan. Taking the blame for his disappearing and probable death? "You... you could have saved him?" he started to ask. As she leaned against the wall to support herself from the sobs he was ready to go to her. He took one step when he hear his name and looked up. Braelynn told him to run, but what was the point? What was there to run to?
His brothers rushed into his mind. Ranger. Ranger could be out there in danger. But Ranger would know to stay put, to stay out of sight. At first he thought they may have been hunting him because of Phoenix Rising but... if Braelynn was on the same hit list then what the heck was going on? He thought too slow as the men got closer. One went for Bay, the other for him.
He kept his eyes on her and all the anger dissipated. All that was left was sadness and defeat. He stood there, not fighting back. Everything seemed to go in slow motion as she was punched in the gut, bending forward with the blow. His hands were bound behind his back with magic and he crashed onto his knees, eyes never breaking from hers. Then a wand was lifted to his face. This was it. He knew it. He was going to die.
'I love you,' he mouthed to her before the spell hit him and everything went black.

It wasn't supposed to happen this way. Zander was safe. Desirae had promised her...
As that first blow, Braelynn's eyes were wide as saucers, as she was pushing herself away from the wall to desperately reach him. "Zander!" She didn't realize she'd screamed. Before she'd moved even a few feet though strong arms wrapped painfully around her torso, yanking her back against a body as hard as steel. She hadn't even noticed one of them coming to grab her. She screamed again, kicking and fighting against the grip but her arms were pinned and the man did nothing but grunt at her attempts at escape. Not even a budge.
She wanted to look away as Zander landed on his knees, a wand slowly brought to his eye level. He never looked away from her though, so neither did she. This was all her fault. She was still crying as she saw his lips form those three words. Three words that cut deeper then any knife. Words neither had uttered yet, but felt.
I love you.
Braelynn screamed his name again, her body racked with sobs as he collapsed. Zander, her Zander... How could they? She stopped kicking and screaming, the fight literally leaving her. Actually, everything seemed to leave her, the girl's knees caving in on her so the only thing holding her up were the arms holding her captive.
This was all her fault...

Well, well, well. It had bee an interesting day, hadn't it?
Desi was, of course, panicked when Ethan disappeared that morning. Even her spiders didn't see him hiding out anywhere. She was furious, to say the least, that he had given Elaine away. She immediately found her queen, helping her find her own means of hiding while they sent a letter to their contacts outside of Hogwarts. Desi didn't even know exactly who they were, but she trusted Elaines judgement.
They were told to just hang tight, which was really annoying. So, Desi kept Elaine hidden as best she could for the whole day. They skipped classes and kept moving. But no one came looking for them, which was really suspicious. Maybe Ethan had been sitting in the Headmasters Office all day, not finding the courage to actually speak up? Either way, Desi wasn't really expecting the massive attackers to come bursting in that night.
She grinned at their entrance, however, trusting that this was the storm their contact spoke of. Things were happening and moving forward and that was good enough for her. Eventually, she realized that they were there to get the Purifiers out and whatever else they were doing. It was pretty creepy, all around, but she and Elaine decided to split up in order to find more of their band members.
Which meant Desi went straight for her sisters.
She couldn't find Adalyn, the kid must have gone hiding without even trying to figure out what was going on. But no matter, she wasn't the one Desi needed to worry about. Desi needed to find Braelynn and assure that she came along.
As she perused the hall, she heard someone screaming Zanders name. A smile crept on her face as she recognized that cry. Not that she was happy that her sister was in tears, not by any means, but that Zander was -- hopefully -- being taken out of the picture. She stepped into the room and took it all in in seconds. Zander was unconscious, and it seemed the baddies were preparing to take him alive. Desi would deal with that later.
She turned toward her sister, seeing that she had completely given up standing. Her eyes softened and a sweet pout appeared on her face as she slowly crossed to Braelynn, gently bending down in front of her, one knee on the ground. She lifted her right hand to tap Braelynns chin, lifting her sisters eyes to meet hers. "Don't mourn for the weak, Braelynn," she cooed. She leaned forward, kissing her sister lightly on the forehead before turning to the men holding her. "I assume you want to take me as well? Desirae Rosseau, at your service."

The man only supported Braelynn for a few moments, before letting her sink to the ground, her cheeks tears stained as they just kept flowing. He kept a firm grip on her arm, though, just in case she tried to run or move for her wand. He knew she wouldn't though. When they'd heard that pitiful and terrible cry escape her lips, they knew she was theirs. That they had completely broken her will. If her physical reaction wasn't an indicator, the look in her eyes was. The light had left from them. All that was left of the composed, well mannered, and brilliant witch was a heart broken and shattered girl. How much of a threat could she be?
Zander didn't move. Was he unconscious? Was he dead? She hadn't heard the spell over the sound of her scream. But even non fatal spells could be life threatening when they hit vital organs. She couldn't tell, the tears made her vision blurry. She never looked away though. From what she had cause. She'd hurt him. It was her fault. If she'd stayed away from him. Heck, if she could have just let him go when she had the chance! No matter how much it hurt her, at least he would have been safe.
Braelynn didn't see Desirae, not immediately. It wasn't until she felt her eldest sisters touch that she seemed to snap out of it, her eyes finally ripped away from Zander and up into the eyes of Desirae. "....." She didn't speak immediately, a soft sob escaping instead of words. They just wouldn't stop, the tears.... "Desi... Why..? I did... I did everything. So why him..?!" Through the pain, and heartache she felt something new. Bitter betrayal.

Desi listened as her sister sobbed and spoke, giving her a chance to say what she wanted to say. Desi then placed a hand on her sisters shoulder while giving a shrug, "I have to be honest, Bay, I don't know why they want him. I thought this was just a ploy to get us out. The Purifiers. I don't know what they want with him, I swear," she was being one hundred percent honest here. Until, finally, the man holding Braelynn spoke.
"We were instructed to take all Purebloods in their seventh year. We've almost retrieved them," he said. He let lose on Braelynns arm a little, knowing who Desirae was and that she was there to go with them. Desi lifted an eyebrow at the man before turning back to Braelynn again.
"They won't hurt him if his blood is Pure. But you... you have to let it go," she said, reaching her free hand out to take Braelynns hand in it. "I promise you will be much better off without him, Bay. I know that," her voice was a soft soothing tone, her touch gentle. "Come on, baby. I'm here," she held her arms out to her sister, expecting Bay to lean forward so she could wrap them around her.

They were after all the seventh year Purebloods. That was why Zander was targeted. They'd truly wanted both of them. It didn't make her feel any better. Braelynn's eyes just returned to where Zander lay, still not moving. At least.... At least he was alive, from the way they made it sound.
You have to let it go. That was what Desirae said, and Braelynn's gaze returned to her sister. Let go? How? How did you let go of someone you had given your heart to? Braelynn's whole body trembled from the overwhelming grief, and lower lip quivering as she held back a cry. She didn't want to be comforted by her sister. Didn't want to hear that soothing voice or feel her reassuring touch. She wanted to sink, to let the darkness and pain swallow her. She wanted Desirae to leave her there with her heart and will broken. When her arms were opened though, beckoning Bay.... The man finally released her arm and Braelynn collapsed into her sister's arms, her arms wrapping tightly around Desirae as a violent sob made her whole body tremble. "I don't want it...." She cried, her words difficult to understand between her sobs. "L-love. If.... If it hurts t-this much....!" She cried in silence then, holding tightly to her eldest sister, just like when they were children. "I don't want it...." She repeated at last, barely above a whisper as she buried her face in her sister's shoulder.

Desirae was grateful that her sister collapsed into her arms just as she knew she would. She wrapped them gently around the younger girl, giving a slight pressure on her back as she pulled her closer. She listened to her sister, trying to decipher the sobs that came out of it. She stroked Bays hair, pulling her closer as the words became clear. "I understand. You don't deserve that pain. I won't ever let it happen to you again. I promise," her voice was soft and she meant every word. She would never let her sister be hurt by love again. She would teach her the ways of the dark, the ways of the Purifiers. Bay was ready now, more than she ever had been before.
After a moment, Desi looked up at the man in the mask. "We're ready. Let's get out of here," she moved her hands to Bays shoulders, pulling back in order to look at her sisters face, "if we want to get out of here alive we have to focus. Just stay close to me," she slowly stood, attempting to pull Bay up with her.

Desirae and Braelynn had a bond quite different then one Bay had with her twin. In fact, there were times when Bay even felt their bond was stronger then the twins, and that was because whenever Bay had been upset about something their parents had done it was Desi that had come to find her. It was Desi that had comforted her and helped her get back on her feet.
It didn't feel the same though. Not after knowing what it felt to have Zander's arms around her. After feeling that deep and powerful connection between them that resonated to her very soul. And even though she'd said she didn't want the pain that accompanied this bond between them, she knew she'd never be free of it. He'd left a mark on her heart that she'd never be able to erase. She still nodded though against her sister's shoulder, trying to take comfort in her words. And then.... she said it was time to go. Braelynn felt her breath catch in her chest as she was pulled to her feet. Her balance was unsteady, her legs feeling weak and shaky but Desirae's firm grip kept her standing. Until she saw one of the man move to pick up Zander. Braelynn almost collapsed again at the sight of his motionless body. Instead of falling though she trembled. "Just.... Please.... Please don't hurt him..." She pleaded both verbally and with her eyes. Her cheeks her tear stained, but at least she'd stopped crying.... She still looked like she might burst into tears without warning though.
It was then she knew. That despite the betrayal she'd seen in Zander's eyes. Despite her love and loyalty to her sister Desirae. That no matter what they had planned in store for him... She wasn't going to let them hurt Zander. Not now, and not ever again...
((Le end? I think so :3 ))
