Edmund felt guilty, though he would never admit that to either of his sisters ... or to Peter or his mother. In fact, there were very few people he would ever admit that to in the first place, but he did. He knew it was mostly his fault that they left the dungeons. They did it because he wanted to see what was going above, see how his friends were or if there was anything he could do to help them. Well, now that he was out of the dungeons he wasn't looking for his friends anymore. He wanted to help all the people around him. That's why he stopped to help the first years. But it was hard to help everyone when you were trying to stay together with your sisters and one of them was running away.
He heard Lucy behind him, shouting out exactly what he was thinking, but he was running too hard to answer her. A knot formed in the pit of his stomach. Then it happened. A blast that threw his oldest sister against a wall. He could hardly believe it. He was still running toward her, but his mind was frozen. What happened? He saw the figure come out from behind Susan, running towards him and Lucy. He also saw Susan's spell hit the person.
Once she let that spell loose, Ed disregarded the figure, returning his attention to his sister. Blast it all, he was concerned. Too concerned to not let some of it show. He reached her as she reached back and touched the back of her head. He saw the red as she pulled her hand away and he instantly knelt beside her, cradling her head gently. Who knew how bad the damage was. "Don't worry Sus. We're here. We'll take care of you." He told her, then as an afterthought added, "And we'll be alright too."
As Susan passed out, Edmund turned his attention to Lucy, who he knew was much better at healing than he was. "Lu, can you see how she is and if there's anything you can do to help her? I'll stand guard," he said gravely as he stood up and pulled a wand out, nervous but determined. He'd protect them. He had to.

How was this even happening? Lucy was strangely calm in the intensity of battle. She would probably freak out later. But right now, there were people who needed her.
"Susan--" Her remark was shut short as she watched Susan slam against the wall. A spell left Susan's wand before Lucy had time to do anything, taking care of the man. Lucy ran the last few yards to her siblings just as Susan passed out and Edmund offered to stand guard.
She didn't even bother to reply to Edmund, she went straight to work. Gently, she helped Susan's limp form to the floor. Then her wand was in her hand and she began muttering spells. She had a small bottle of Dittany in her pocket. It had been a gift from her mother. She didn't even know where her mother had gotten it, but she was thankful for it now.

Susan didn’t now how long she was out for – she had no way of knowing of course. She slowly began to form conscious thought again as she felt a warm sensation throughout her body. Groaning, her eyes fluttered open and she saw Lucy crouching over her and Edmund standing in front of the two of them. She sharply inhaled and tried to sit up. Her vision began swimming and she lay back down on her arm. “I’m sorry you guys,” she whispered, her voice trembling. If anything happened to them now while they were caring for her, she would never forgive herself.
Closing her eyes tightly, she managed to sit up and press her back up against the wall. She opened one eye and glanced at Lucy. “Don’t have anything for this,” she said, pointing one trembling hand to the back of her head. “Do you?” she finished. If the pain would just go away, then she could get back up.

Edmund glanced over his shoulder when he heard Susan talk. He looked forward again as he sighed in relief. At least she wasn't hurt so badly that she wouldn't wake up, though he was sure she must have a pounding headache. That would not be fun.
His eyes darted from side to side, scanning every person that crossed his path. He needed to know who was a threat and who wasn't. He didn't want to attack anyone, but he couldn't risk anyone getting to Susan or Lucy.
"We need to move," he told them, talking over his shoulder. "We're too exposed here. We need somewhere more ... safe. I don't think the hospital wing is a good choice, I bet the attackers will be going there. Where do you think we need to go?" he asked, hoping one of them had a good idea. He felt as though all his ideas were running away. He could hardly think at all right now, except about his responsibility to protect his sisters. If he let anything happen to them he would never forgive himself. Not to mention the fact that Will would probably never forgive him either.

Lucy breathed a sigh of relief as Susan came too.
"Oh, Susan! Thank goodness. Here drink this." she said in response to her sister's question. She had taken to carrying several potions with her. She wasn't sure why, perhaps she just liked being prepared. But tonight it was paying off. The vial held a small pain killing potion. Nothing extreme, but she had perfected making it last week.
Once she was sure Susan was going to be fine she looked back to Edmund. "Where ever we go, it can't be far. Susan needs to rest. And eventually we need to get her to the hospital wing." She looked back to her sister. "I -- I think we shouldn't be out here." she added finally. She loved her family, and she loved helping. But right now those two loves were fighting against each other. Staying to help would be hurting her family. Going with her family would mean she couldn't help.
"Maybe we could go to the kitchens?"

Out of the corner of his eye, Edmund watched Lucy take care of Susan. He had to get them out of here before any more damage happened. Will would kill him if he let things get worse. He hesitated in turning towards them, but it didn't seem like anyone was coming, so he decided to make his move.
He spun around quickly, "How about this, Luc? I'll carry Susan down to the kitchens while you cover us and we'll see what we can do for Susan one we get there. The house elves can probably help us too ..." he trailed off for a second, looking at Susan and wondering if he should say what he was thinking. Eventually he decided he didn't care if he offended her. It wouldn't be anything new. "It'll take too long and we'll be too exposed if we let her try and walk there. I can carry her, it's faster than levitating her too. I'll run. You run in front of us and clear a path. What do you think?" Ed felt vulnerable. He hated asking people what they thought of his plans, but he couldn't do something this big without asking them. Especially Lucy, since she would be the one protecting them. He believed she could do it though. Not that they had much of a choice.
