Ah, the room of requirements. So that's where Lily had wanted to go. He shouldn't have been surprised. If you ever really wanted something, and privacy, it was the place to go. He and his friends had used it countless times before, especially when they didn't want to be overheard. Because if someone was already in there and that person didn't want you in there? You didn't get it. Period.
Jamie didn't let go of him until they'd entered the room. Again, Adrian felt an intense desire to turn and leave now. They weren't paying attention after all. Lily was going to make tea, so if he tried to make a run for it? She'd react just slow enough that he might make it. But then he remembered Jamie was there, and sighed. Nothing was distracting her, so she'd catch on far to quickly for his plan to work. But... considering her emotional state....
Okay, planning an escape when his sister was in this state was terrible. Sure, he'd practically made a living of avoiding his two sisters at school, but he'd been seeking him (and Lily) out. Maybe because she thought they'd gone through the same thing? If that was the case.... Crud.
As Jamie spoke, muttering about what she'd done to deserve this, he looked at Lily, his gaze hard to read, but she'd understand that silent message. The pair had to tread very, very carefully. After all. No one actually knew that his biting Lily had been planned. He turned and plopped down on the other couch and opened his mouth to say... something. Anything. But nothing came out. With a sigh, he looked away. He wasn't very good at this comforting thing...

Lily glanced over at Adrian the same time he looked at her, while Jamie said she didn't know what she'd done to deserve this. Lily got the message and Adrian would know that she understood. They had to be incredibly careful now. She didn't want to lie to Jamie, but they couldn't tell her the truth either. Not yet. Not when she was like this. Lily crossed back to Jamie, a cup of tea in her hand now. She placed it on the table right in front of Jamie, not sure if she would take it or not. As she sat beside Jamie, she put an arm on the couch behind the blonde and looked at her, her own expression soft and caring yet again, "you didn't do anything. No one asks for trials, Jamie, they just come. To everyone in different ways," she explained.
Her father didn't ask for what happened to him, no way. Neither did her mother, or Ron, or Hermione or any of them. Lily... Lily had asked for it, but she knew what she was getting in to. Well, she thought she did. But Jamie wasn't the only one in pain. Everyone had their pain, everyone had their problems. Some of them had it harder than others, like Jamie now, but it was always there. Underneath everyones eyes, there was something.

At this point, it would be preferable if the couch just swallowed her. Its soft fabric covering could turn into white polished teeth and chew her up, and then probably spit her back up, dissatisfied with the way she tasted. Maybe that would satisfy the universe’s demand for her blood, for her soul. Just like everything else, the sofa would reject her, because it wasn’t what it had wanted. Jamie wished that her thoughts would stop straying into such horrible metaphors, but they were easier than reality. Figurative language put exactly three feet of space in between her body and her mind, and that was what was keeping her from going insane – thirty six inches of illusions.
“Well it would be nice if my trials would just be over with.” The Hufflepuff muttered mutinously. At least other trials led to some sort of reward. All that getting through this would lead to would be a life that was pseudo-normal. It wouldn’t fix her lycanthropy and it wouldn’t fix Matt’s. They’d be back to square zero. “How are you okay with this?” Jamie said, moving her head so her eyes could search Adrian’s for some sort of answer. He had done the same thing, and he was far from the quivering mess of maybe person that Jamie was at that moment. Lily had been the one who was turned, and this conversation didn’t elicit any traumatic memories or anything, and she had to wonder if time could really sand down the rough corners of her heart so that if one day, god forbid, another student was bitten she would be able to help rather than just sit there like a sniveling fool. The thought made her heart hurt with the impossibility, and once again she wondered if it was too much to ask for the couch to swallow her whole.

"How are you okay with this?'
Jamie's gaze and words were like daggers. Adrian didn't dare move even an inch with her gaze now on him, and her words seeking some answer that would help. That would make it better. She didn't see the fear trying to invade his heart. that she'd find out what had really happened and hate both of them for it. No, she couldn't find out. He and Lily would have to... lie to her. Pretend that they'd done the exact same thing so they could help her get through this. And some day, maybe, they'd tell her the truth...
"I'm not." He slowly responded. It sounded incredibly convincing, but maybe that was because he was trying to imagine if Lily had been bitten by someone else, or if him biting her hadn't been planned. Heaven knew that Lily was one of the most important people to him and he'd do anything for her. Just considering that someone might hurt her gave him enough emotion to lie convincingly. "I never wanted Lily to get hurt. It's already done though, and there's nothing I can do to change it. So we focus on the positives. If you only think of it like a curse, it'll be one." His gaze moved to Lily then.

Well, it would be nice if everyones trials were over with, but that wouldn't happen. Lily hadn't felt like she'd lived that hard of a life. In fact, other than the crazy attacks on the school, she couldn't think of anything that made her life horrible. She loved her life, and she loved who she spent it with. These two included. She didn't speak again yet, though, because Jamie had addressed Adrian. Her eyes widened as she also turned to Adrian, waiting for his response. I'm not. He said it convincingly enough that Lily felt a slight pain in her chest, but then she realized that he was just doing this for Jamies sake. He didn't regret what they'd done, of course not... he didn't regret her. He couldn't. Her gaze softened and she kept her eyes on Adrian, something showing from her face that she didn't recognize. Some strange feeling churning inside her that she didn't take the time to evaluate.
I never wanted Lily to get hurt, he said. Lily knew he meant it. She suddenly felt guilty for having allowed herself to cry out in pain during that first transformation. To whimper when it became too much. She bit her lip, keeping her eyes on him until at the end of his sentence his eyes found their way to hers. She waited in silence for a moment before nodding, "he's right. We've had to find the positives," she said, still looking at him as she did.

Why could nobody understand that there were no positives? Adrian and Lily were only okay because they were friends or – whatever they were. Jamie hadn’t even known Matt, didn’t really want to know him, if she was honest, and she would never be able to become with him what Lily and Adrian were for each other. She had Harper to think about, even if that was probably going to end up going nowhere. She didn’t have what they had. All she had was herself, and even that was overwhelming in its emptiness. Still, Jamie had to try. She had to try, so that when she left, Lily and Adrian wouldn’t think she was giving up on them, or refusing to look at the positives. She was an optimist by nature, even if this situation seemed to demand pessimism, and she was not going to let them let go of that notion. Too many relationships had already been changed irrevocably by the events of the last twenty four hours, and Jamie was not going to ruin two more.
Jamie looked from her brother to her sister and back again. “I will sleep well tonight.” She deadpanned, pulling out the only positive that she could think of. She was so exhausted by the whole ordeal – and by being awake all night – that not sleeping seemed impossible. When morning came again, she could untangle herself a little more, and then when night came, she could sleep. She would be safe from the moon, the inconstant moon, for another twenty eight days, and then she could worry again. Maybe that was a positive: she had twenty eight days during which to prepare for the inevitable heartbreak that would come with the next full moon.

Adrian didn’t recognize that look on Lily’s face. Didn’t understand what emotion it was that was causing her to look at him like that. It wasn’t pity, or remorse, or worry. She knew what he was doing. So what was with that… that look? What did it mean? And why was it making his stomach knot up? He quickly broke eye contact with her, focusing on his half sister. That seemed safer…
He slowly grinned. ”A good night’s sleep is better than nothing.” he agreed. Sleep would help. People tended to act poorly when they were exhausted.

When Adrian broke eye contact with her she turned back to Jamie as well, relieved that the contact was broken, which was strange. She turned back to Jamie, reaching over to place a hand on Jamies knee. She nodded, "we'll walk you back to your common room," she offered, trying not to keep her mind focused on the task at hand and not at all the emotions this upsetting event was stirring up. Jamie needed her right now, and that was the most important thing. She squeezed Jamies leg before moving to stand, casting her eyes back to the door, looking past Adrian. @jamie @adrian (erh, we can end there unless Jamie wants to do one more

A good night’s sleep could just as easily be a good day’s sleep, couldn’t it? The couch, for all its treacherous ways, would be good for sleeping on. Jamie rubbed at her eyes, creating starbursts on the backs of her eyelids, and then yawned. She was trying to fight the exhaustion, but it had been ignored for far too long, and now it was clinging onto her like a burr. “I’m going to sleep now.” She announced to Lily and Adrian, falling sideways, almost doll-like, to stretch out on the couch. The ceiling was low and painted white, just like her room at home. It was nice. Familiar. It didn’t take longer than a few seconds for the world to slip out of focus, and then a few more seconds for it to fade to black. She was ready for sleep, and for the first time since the moon had risen the night before, Jamie didn’t have to fight.
