Gryffindor was where she was safe. Everyone Jamie loved was a Gryffindor, with the exception of Aaron. Still, that made it pretty obvious where she should go after…after…She couldn’t even bear to think the words, but they wiggled their way into her head anyways. After she had bitten someone. She needed to go to the Gryffindor tower, because there, she was safe. There, she was loved. There, she had Adrian, who knew what it was like to bite someone on accident. There, she had Lily, who knew what it was like to be bitten. She had Harper, who…who she should not tell. That was too many hurdles to think about at once. Her head hurt. Her throat hurt. Her heart hurt. The quicker she could get to the Gryffindor tower, the quicker the pain would go away.
Climbing up the stairs to the tower hurt. Why did everything hurt so much? Her throat, especially, was painful, and if Jamie didn't know better, she would have said that the bruise was spreading. The Gryffindors who were walking past her seemed to be running, but Jamie was acutely aware of the fact that she was moving in slow motion. She just couldn’t summon the energy. When she finally made it to the top, she tapped the nearest person on the shoulder, and asked for him if he could tell Lily that Jamie was there. If Lily came, Jamie figured, Adrian would come, too. Maybe. Lily was easier to talk to, anyways, and then maybe the pain would stop. Jamie leaned against the closest wall, acutely aware of the portraits staring at her as she waited, desperately, for someone who would take away the pain.

Adrian was exhausted.
Lily was definitely getting the hang of being a Werewolf. She'd transformed several times now, and he'd built up quite a bit of endurance to keep up with her. Last night they had been deep in the forest trying to catch the elusive owners of the scents so similar to their own. No luck, but he felt like they were getting closer. So, this morning he'd decided it was time to do some research. Yes. research. Adrian, who hated cracking open a book, had gone to the library and checked out a book on Werewolves. And he hadn't told Lily. He'd tell her if he found anything.
He'd just about reached the common room wen he stopped, eyes widening a bit. Jamie was standing there, waiting outside the Gryffindor common room. Why? One of her friends? He knew she and Lily got along, so maybe she was waiting for Lily. And he'd seen her with Harper Weasley a few times.. Could it be her? Cautiously he continued walking, trying to act like he didn't notice her, but then, when he reached the point where he could see her face... He stopped again. No, he froze, and he felt a bone chilling numbness wash over him. That look in her eyes.... He'd never seen it before. And he instantly hated it. It made his stomach knot in ways he never thought possible. And then he saw the bruise.
That cold numbness turned to rage. Raw, unbridled and wild. That wasn't a normal bruise. He knew what those looked like. That was the kind of bruise Lily gave him. "Jamie, what happened..?" He barely managed to speak, his voice soft, and straining to remain under control. He wasn't even that close to Jamie, so why was he so angry? Why did he feel this wave of protectiveness? Deep down he knew the answer, though admitting it wasn't easy.
Someone had hit his sister.

She had lied to herself. She had thought that seeing her brother would make the pain go away, or at least easier to bear. It wasn’t so. Something inside of her split open when she saw Adrian’s face, all of the emotions she had been so careful to push away when she spoke to the headmaster. The pain fed on the sadness and self-loathing like it was a banquet, and every hurt multiplied. Jamie had never heard his voice sound that way before. It was…quiet. It was quiet like the night and she couldn’t tell him everything that happened, because anyone could walk in or out of the common room at any given time, and this was not entirely her story to tell. She had made a monster in her own image, like the gods had, and the monster she had made had as much of the right to tell the story as she had. Jamie wasn’t even sure if her voice would work right, or if, like Adrian, it would come out quiet and strained and full of so much emotion she could drown in it.
Why hadn’t the pain stopped? She turned to face him, and her eyes met his. She was hollow, and the pain hadn’t stopped like she thought it would. Jamie stepped forward, unsure of what was drawing her to be close to her brother. Maybe if she got close enough the pain would go away, or maybe she would just split open wider at seams she didn’t even know existed. They were both equal possibilities at this point. She needed to answer him, Jamie remembered. “I made a mistake, Adrian.” She whispered. The voice that came out of her was one she didn’t recognize, more defeated then she thought a human being ever could sound. “I’m hurt.” A tear slid out of the corer of her eye. Admitting that she was in pain had given the tears permission to come, and she didn’t have the energy to swallow them back. She was spent.

Adrian didn't like these confusing, conflicting feelings. Of wanting to go to Jamie and trying to make her feel better. Of wanting to find out who had hurt her and go hurt them in turn. What instinct should he follow? He didn't know, so he stood here, frozen. Confused. Angry. Anxious. And then she was speaking, and he felt his stomach sink a little at the sound of her voice. It wasn't her normal voice. It was hurt. Broken. Each word, though quiet, felt like daggers, sinking deep. And it made him even angrier, because something, or someone, had done this to her.
And then she was crying.
He couldn't stop himself, his feet moving purely on instinct to close that remaining distance between them. Not a single word came out though, the boy offering no words of comfort to his older sister. Words would fail him. He knew what he needed to do, despite desperately wanting to just leave. TO keep that distance between him and her. He couldn't though. And he'd regret it later. Adrian moved to put his arms around Jamie, to pull her into a hug.

Lily had lost count of how many full moons she had gone through as a wolf now. It was three or four... somewhere around there. Either way, she really didn't care, she was enjoying every second of it. She decided not to ever talk to Adrian about the fact that she always seemed to end up kissing him around the full moon... it was like she couldn't control herself or stop her instincts at that point. He hadn't asked, and she wouldn't explain. Simple. This morning, however, she had slept in and not bothered to get up when she sensed that Adrian was leaving. She just rolled over and fell back to sleep. Last night had been one of the most exhausting so far because they had searched harder than ever for the source of that strange smell... Finally, she woke up, got dressed, and was ready to go on a hunt for Adrian. She hurried through the common room and climbed through the portrait hole. She stopped at what she saw in front of her. Jamie and Adrian were hugging. That's right, hugging. Adrian was actually touching his sister, showing some kind of affection. Lily's jaw dropped and she took a step forward, not knowing what to do at first. She almost made a joke but then she got that feeling... something was seriously wrong. She moved forward again, making eye contact with Adrian as she gently placed a hand on Jamie's shoulder, "guys, what's wrong?"@jamie @adrian

This was what she had been dreaming about when she learned she had siblings. This had been the life she imagined for herself. It was better, even, than her imagination, because she knew that it was real. No one had forced Adrian into making the decision, and while Jamie appreciated that Lily was pushing her brother to be a better person, it was nice to know that he was plenty good all on his own. He did not make the pain go away, but his arms around her tethered her to the earth. She could not float away into heaven or descend into hell, because Adrian was keeping her safe from both of them. Her insides were not roaring any more, not howling or screaming or making any other sort of loud noise. He did not make the pain go away, but Adrian made it quieter, and Jamie needed the quiet.
She flinched at the hand on her shoulder, dropping her arms from where they had twisted themselves around Adrian’s torso. “Bad night.” She whispered, tears continuing to drip down her cheeks. Maybe she was crazy, but Jamie swore she could hear the way Adrian had lessened the noise when she spoke. She still sounded a far cry from herself, but not as broken. “I…” She considered repeating what she had told her brother. She had made a mistake, but it was more than that. “I could not control the…the animal…and it did a bad thing.” Adrian and Lily could probably infer what had happened from the paltry bit of information she had given them. The bruise that adorned her throat was a war wound. She was lucky that stunning spells didn’t leave a mark, otherwise she’d have much more to answer to. It was bad enough as it was.

Of course Lily had to show up right then. Adrian smelled her coming, but didn't move. Didn't let go of his sister. Because for once, he wasn't thinking about his dignity and precious reputation. He didn't care what Lily thought when she saw him hugging Jamie. It's what Jamie needed. And he needed it, as much as he wanted to deny it.
Adrian didn't say anything as Lily approached, just looked at her with a serious, somber expression as he tightened his arms around Jamie just a little protectively. If it'd been anyone else trying to approach he probably would have snarled, and tried to chase them off. Lily was different though. The sight of her calmed the anger raging inside him. She'd be rational. She'd find out what happened. And then Adrian would hurt whoever had hurt Jamie. It was a good, solid plan. Despite not fully understanding why he felt so protective of Jamie.
Jamie tried to pull back, to talk to Lily, and Adrian, after some serious hesitation, loosened his grip, so she could at least get a coherent response out, but not enough to let her go. He wasn't doing that. That anger wasn't gone. That protective drive was stronger then ever. And when she finally got out an answer? He froze, finally looking at Jamie instead of Lily, who he'd been quite intensely staring at. "But you take the potion." He finally managed to say. She did. She was vigilant about it. Not like Lily and Adrian that did everything they could to avoid it. Jamie didn't need to say what the wolf did though. He knew. Because he had a wolf of his own, and he knew their nature. "Who?" He asked quietly. Who had she bitten? Who had she turned? Because that person had to be the culprit behind her bruise...

Lily was sure she was hearing things. Even as wolves Lily and Adrian were incredibly careful, burying themselves deeply in the forest before any changed happened. How did Jamie get close to another student? She always took the potion, just like Adrian had said... then he was asking who and Lily put two and two together. Jamie had bit someone, and possibly killed them. She looked terrible and clearly felt awful about whatever had happened out there. Lily kept her hand on Jamie shoulder but swung around in order to stand beside Adrian. She didn't speak yet, she would let Adrian handle this right now. Heck, she couldn't deny tht she felt a small pleasure in seeing Adrian handle this situation. It was good to see that he had even hugged her, and now the concern and intensity in his voice was showing that he cared about her, even if it was brought on by a horrible thing. She was just proud of him for being here, for talking to Jamie and not turning her away.

The strange thing about Jamie’s family was that it seemed to get bigger every day. Standing there, wrapped in her brother’s arms, Jamie reached an important realization: Lily was her sister, in every way that counted. Lily was standing with her outside the common room providing a steady hand, and blissful quiet. She was probably more of a sister than Odette; somehow, Jamie couldn’t see the second-eldest Greyback being still or quiet in a situation like this. Her brother ad her sister were with her. If she didn’t feel so hollow, Jamie might have smiled. But she was hollow, and smiling seemed even further away than the moon that had damned her. The only thing she could manage was a desperate sigh, one that she hoped sounded like the proclamation of love that sat in her stomach.
“I take the potion.” She confirmed, her breaths more like wheezes after her time spent crying. She took the potion, and it didn’t work, and it wasn’t fair that this had happened, but it had. Plucking the words out of the air was taking more strength than Jamie knew she had, and it was good that Lily’s hand was still there, because Jamie needed more anchors than before to keep from drifting away. She wasn’t sure how she was going to keep spitting them out when they tasted so vile (so sweet) in her mouth, but Jamie was determined to give the truth to two people. Maybe when the words weren’t inside of her they wouldn’t hurt so bad. She could make the pain stop.
She swallowed when Adrian asked who she had bitten. She had expected the question, prepared for it, but it was still like a blow to the chest. Breath in, breath out. She could say the name. Before she knew what was happening, the words crawled out of Jamie’s throat, desperate to wrap themselves around her brother’s neck, her sister’s neck, and squeeze the life out of both of them. “His name is Matt Johanson. He’s a Gryffindor.” At least he wasn’t a Ravenclaw, Jamie found herself thinking. At least one of the Hogwarts houses was free from the taint that was the Greyback line. The only problem was that there was only taint in one of the houses, because her siblings had done nothing wrong. It was only her. Only Hufflepuff was corrupted. Only she was poison.

Jamie took the potion. She even confirmed it. So how? How? How was it possible then? What happened? The potion made you tame. Human. It kept your mind intact, and coherent. It kept you in control. Adrian had, obviously bit Lily when he was under the affects of the potion but that had been the plan. They'd wanted that to happen. He'd been completely in control of himself when he'd bit her. But Jamie? While he didn't know his sister well, he knew one thing. She didn't see this condition the same way as Lily and Adrian. They thrives in it. Embraced it. Let it consume them. Jamie though? She was careful. Always in control, and constantly vigilant. She wouldn't have intentionally bit someone. Which meant, something had happened with the potion on the full moon. "Jamie, what happened..?" He repeated slowly.
Matt Johanson.
Adrian saw red for a moment. Of course Lily and Adrian knew him. They were both friends with Matt. They were in the same year. Heck, Adrian shared a room with him! "Where is he?" Adrian finally, fully, released Jamie from his grasp. He hadn't seen Matt today, now that he thought about it. There was only one place he could be though. The same place Lily had been after he'd bitten her. The hospital wing. It took all his self control not to run down there right now. His hands even shook from his effort to restrain himself. He wasn't seeing Matt as his friend right now. He was seeing him as the guy that hit his sister. And that was unforgivable.

So, something was wrong with her potion? That was pretty messed up. Lily felt bad enough that people had to go through the change even when it was their choice. Like it was for her. Having it happen to you when you weren’t mentally prepared… well, that sucked. When she gave the name, Lily couldn’t hold back her gasp. She knew Matt, of course. She was pretty good friends with him, actually. She was silent as Adrian said Where Is he, and she immediately reached a hand out to flatten against the center of Adrians chest the second he pulled away from Jamie. ”Stop right there,” she commanded, clasping his robes there, ”no one is going looking for Matt, no one,” as much as Lily would have loved to beat the guy up herself for even touching Jamie, she had to be the level headed one when Adrian wasn’t. They kind of switched off like that.
”Jamie, you should sit down,” she said, turning her head back toward the blonde but keeping her hand against Adrian, ”why don’t we all take a deep breath and find somewhere private to talk about this. You should have some chocolate, too,” but she didn’t trust leaving Adrian and she didn’t want to leave Jamie alone. Well, she’d just have to summon some, wouldn't she? ”Come on,” she said, slowly releasing Adrian in order to turn to stand beside Jamie and put an arm around her gingerly. She slowly steered her away from the Common Room, planning to check if the Room of Requirement was free at the moment...

All Jamie could think was that Adrian couldn’t hurt anyone. He couldn’t be like her. As much as the bruise adorning her throat hurt, she didn’t need revenge for it. She had deserved it. Jamie felt better when she saw that Lily was holding Adrian back, keeping him from doing something he would regret. Jamie nodded mutely when the Gryffindor girl declared that no one was looking for Matt. Jamie wasn’t sure she’d be able to look at Matt ever again, let alone look for him. She was nervous just thinking about it, and raised a hand to touch her throat, feeling the mark that Matt’s shoulder had left behind.
Sit down? She could sit down. Jamie shuffled towards Lily when the other girl put her arm around the Hufflepuff, seeking out the warmth of someone else’s body to chase away the chill. She would follow Lily, and then she would sit down, and then she would eat chocolate, and then she would feel better. Simple. Four steps. Jamie would tell them about the sugar in her potion when they were alone together. She had to start mentally prepare herself for the big reveal. “Where are we going, Lily?” She whispered, swallowing hard. Jamie wasn’t sure how far her legs would carry her. She would follow Lily and Adrian into hell if they asked her to, but she was so tired. She reached out her hand, hoping to find Adrian’s. She wasn’t sure if she trusted him to follow them if one of them wasn’t physically holding him back from running away to find Matt.

Lily had a good hold on the front of his robes, demanding that he stop right there and that no one would be looking for Matt. Obviously that statement was more like "Adrian, you aren't going to look for him". He fixed Lily with an angry look, seriously considering breaking that grip she had on his robes and prove her wrong. He could. He was positive he could. After a moment though, he just let out a huff. Not exactly resigning, but agreeing to not go after Matt... right now. He made no promises for later today or tomorrow.
When Lily finally released him, having decided the three needed to go somewhere, there was a flicker of consideration to leave then. She'd made the mistake of letting go, after all. And he might have silently agreed for the moment not to do anything but he did stupid things when he was angry. Would she really blame him if he took off? Those plans went out the window though when Jamie found his hand, taking it in her own. Obviously she trusted Adrian as little as Lily did. The contact almost made him jerk back, because while he'd hugged his sister, contact with her was... strange. Instead, he just sighed, and followed...

Lily knew that her and Adrian were having a silent battle of wills there and that he was almost ready to start a fight with her in order to go after Matt, but she was not going to lose this battle. She was grateful that he let out a huff to show that she had won, for now, and that he was going to go with them. She glanced over as Jamie took Adrians hand and saw that slight moment of panic in his eyes. She didn't do anything about it, though, and simply answered Jamies question. "Somewhere with a comfortable couch, tea and chocolate," she said, turning the corner and moving forward until they were finally outside the room.
She told it what she wanted and stepped inside, not surprised that no one was in there at the moment. She moved toward the couch with Jamie and then released her before going to start the teapot that was happily in the corner waiting for them. She wasn't really the motherly type, not usually, but sometimes... sometimes that instinct came out. Usually she tried to ignore it. But desperate times...

Comfortable couch? She could definitely go for that. She wasn’t sure if she’d be able to stomach any tea or chocolate, though Jamie was sure Lily was going to try her damndest until the Hufflepuff took a bite or two. The journey to the room felt arduous as she dragged herself and her brother along until Lily stopped in front of a blank wall. In just a few seconds a door had appeared, and Jamie didn’t have enough time to think about how strange that was before she stepped through. There was the couch, as promised. Content in the fact that Adrian probably wouldn’t assault Matt now that they weren’t in close proximity to the Gryffindor tower, Jamie released her brother’s hand. She sank down onto the couch and wondered if she even deserved to be as comfortable as she was. She had done a bad thing, but she was just too tired to stand back up.
“I don’t understand what I did to deserve this.” Jamie said, staring straight forward as she did. What had been her flaw, the thing that some tragedy needed to come in and fix? How had she wronged the world? Jamie had thought she had paid her penance for being Fenrir’s daughter, but maybe this was the true price she had to pay to gain forgiveness. She had to admit that she was his monster.
