Braelynn didn't look away from him as he struggled to respond. When he finally got his answer out, that he didn't want to leave she felt something... strange. Typically every good feeling she'd had lately was accompanied by a sharp sting. A constant reminder that she didn't deserve it. This time though? When she felt her heart flutter.. nothing followed. There wasn't that pain. She waited, willing it to come, but it didn't. She let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding and it felt like...a release. As if a small weight had been lifted that she hadn't realized she'd been carrying. When someone knocked at the door, she turned away quickly.
Zander opened the door for only a moment before pulling something into the room. Her first guess was that it might be food, but it was to soon. Zander would have grabbed something when he'd been outside only a short time before. Only once the door was closed, and she was sure no one else had walked in, did she look back at Zander... and froze. It was his guitar. Seeing it brought back memories. Of when she and Zander had been at the school, secretly meeting. Him playing or teaching her how to play herself. Of the time they went ice skating and they finally said 'I love you'. Quickly, very quickly, Braelynn looked away before Zander saw her practically staring. Before he saw the emotions trying desperately to come out.

The rest of that day had gone on in mostly silence between them, even Zander didn’t say very much. He was happy about the progress that they both had made today but he was emotionally drained and honestly didn’t want to push anything with her. So he mostly just stayed silent and didn’t even pick up his guitar again.
That night he slept in the bed beside her again and the next morning he brought breakfast back with him. Maybe today would be the day, huh?
”Mornin,” he said, setting the tray down on the nightstand, ”I’ll be back,” he said before turning away from the food and her to cross the room to grab his guitar. He lifted it up and didn’t look back at her as he slipped out the door once more. If he was going to play that song soon he had to practice…
He was only gone for about a half hour, hoping that she had at least eaten some of the food while he was gone playing. He had actually practiced not too far from the room but had made sure that she wouldn’t be able to hear him with some fancy muffliatos and whatnot. He knew her room was silenced, but he wasn’t sure about the rest of the house so he added some more.
When he came back, he set the guitar against the wall again and turned to take a glance at the tray of food, hoping something was missing…

Braelynn didn't speak the rest of the day. Not to surprising. She'd spent a good portion of it staring out the window. Periodically her eyes would narrow, or widen, or flick back and forth as she watched something on the streets below. And then every time Zander would make a noise, those dark eyes would dart to him, then away after a few moments. The alertness to the girl was almost uncanny. By the time the sun set though, she'd exhausted herself and.... well crashed. She fell asleep long before Zander. She woke up twice due to nightmares, but her thrashing was mostly subdued by Zander's warm and tight embrace.
Bay was still asleep when he got up and left the room to get breakfast, though when he came back the sound of the tray on the table was enough to rouse her. Slowly her eyes opened, trying to blink the sleep from them as she eyed the tray, then him. He was so casual about it, just turning and leaving with the guitar. Probably to play. Instantly she felt a pang of longing. She missed listening to him play his guitar. Bay didn't say it though, sat up and yawned. There was a soft rumbling, and she stopped yawning, confused. It took a moment to realize that that sound had been her stomach. It'd been quite a while since she'd heard that sound. Since she actually remembered that she was hungry. She stared at the tray on the nightstand with narrowed eyes.
Zander was back before she knew it. She lay on her side, her back to the door. For a moment, it'd almost look like she'd gone back to sleep. Except for two things had changed in the room. Two critical, but easily overlooked things. Unless you were Zander, and on the look out for changes. The first was that one of the pieces of toast was missing from the tray, no where in sight. And the second, was the book he always kept on the nightstand was also missing. It wasn't no where to be found though. It was propped open on a pillow in front of her, the girl silently reading.

A piece of toast was missing.
Zander didn't linger on the tray for too long, not wanting her to notice that he had noticed the toast missing. He looked for her next, finding her on the bed... reading!? He marched over there and jumped up on the bed beside her, laying the same way she was. "Heeey, you're reading it without me! What if I never find out when happens next?" he said, treating this like it was any other day even though on the inside his brain was exploding with happiness. She had eaten a piece of toast and was reading without him! Of her own accord! He wanted to run out of there and contact Andy and Susan right now, but he didn't want to leave right after he just walked in. Plus, he needed to not make a big deal out of this. Don't make a big deal out of this.
He leaned over in an attempt to see what page she was on and frowned, "you've been reading without me before this," he said, turning to her and giving her a faux glare. His thoughts flickered to his guitar for a moment... the moment was coming. He could feel it. This was the first step. Toast was the first step.

Braelynn tried to act like she wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. Like reading wasn't something new to Zander. But that's how she'd been with her entire recovery. She just pretended it wasn't anything special. Because she hated the hope it gave people. But she was also incapable of not progressing. As he hopped onto the bed, teasing her about reading without hi, and that he might not know the end, her gaze flickered to him. Her expression remained just as still as normal, not even the faintest sign of a smile. "I won't spoil the ending for you." Did she just.... make a joke?
And then he noticed that she was farther then where he'd left off. Quite a bit farther. To far for a mere thirty minutes. That was when a small shadow of a smile finally broke free. It was so microscopic that it was almost unnoticeable. She closed the book then, her gaze still focused quite intensely on his own. "You read too slow." was the only explanation she offered. And.... It was another joke. Then, just like that, she rolled over so her back as to him, and closed her eyes.

At her first joke, Zander raised an eyebrow at her with his smile vanishing to match her lips. He could tell it was a joke, though. He knew. Then, after he called her out on reading without him for a while, he saw the corner of her mouth barely, barely move and he lifted a hand as if he was going to touch that spot, but he didn't. She closed the book and declared that he read to slow right before rolling away form him. "Fine, maybe you should read to me then," he said, choosing to ignore the fact that she turned away. He leaned over her shoulder in order to plant a kiss on her cheek. "You're hair looks really pretty," he muttered, before kissing said hair on the side of her head and lifting a hand to carefully and cautiously touch her waist. He sighed, lowering his forehead to rest on her temple, his other free hand supporting him on the pillow beside her head.
He was silent for a moment, wishing she hadn't turned away but not wanting to ask her to turn back. He lowered his lips to her one more time to gently kiss the spot just beneath her ear, sure he was crossing a line but not really wanting to care. Then he rolled away, sitting up on the opposite side of the bed, his feet back on the ground. "You saw my guitar. Obviously. Do you... want to hear a song? Unless you want to rest now. That's fine too," he asked gingerly.

Braelynn noticed Zander's hand move when she almost smiled. For a moment, she wished desperately that he hadn't stopped. But also glad he did. Because it meant confronting her feelings for him. Admitting that those feelings were still there, stronger then ever. She couldn't remember saving him, like everyone said she had, but she she had flashes. Of the duel with Desirae. But some times? Sometimes she'd see Zander, out of the corner of her eye, before the duel began. She wasn't sure if that was memory or dream. ".... I like listening to you read too." she softly commented. She was just to curious to know the rest of the story to wait for him, basically. She shouldn't have turned away, she knew that, and she wanted to turn back to face him almost immediately. At least, until he curled up right behind her, a hand on her waist as he kissed her cheek, hair, and then rested his forehead against her temple. Bay let out a soft sigh, her eyes still closed. It was.... nice. Zander had been cuddling and holding her since the first day he'd arrived, while Bay hadn't started to return the affection until a few nights ago. Usually though his being there hurt just as much as it comforted. Today seemed to be a day where the pain was miraculously. It just wouldn't come. And so she didn't hesitate to lean back into him just a bit.
It was only for a moment though, after one more kiss Zander rolled away and to the edge of the bed. Her eyes opened wide at his question. Did she want to hear a song? Slowly, she sat up, "Yes." She spoke without any hesitation.

She liked listening to him read? That was something he didn't expect her to say, even though he hoped it was true. He didn't know what to say then, so he didn't say anything, he just held her a little tighter. When he turned away and mentioned the song, he felt his heart starting to beat in his throat as he waited for an answer. It was a short wait, and he felt her moving before she spoke. Yes, she said. He smiled not turning to face her yet, but pushing off the bed and crossing the room toward his guitar. He gently opened the case, lifting the guitar out and feeling as though his fingers started to heat up at the touch, filling with electricity. He felt suddenly calm, his face melting into a soft smile as he turned back to face her. "Okay," he breathed. Slowly he walked toward her, lifting the strap over his head and trying his hardest not to break eye contact. He found the bed once more and sat on the edge of it. "I wrote this one. For you. I mean, that'll be obvious but... I did," he kept his eyes on her for a moment longer before turning away, his eyes landing on the guitar. As the notes started to come, he felt his nerves dissipate and his heart slow. He started softly, caressing the guitar with his fingers several measures before his voice even came, "Look into my eyes, I can see the damage. I can feel the cold dark place you're in. You don't have to hide cause I'll be right beside you through every tear run down your skin,
Maybe when your sky comes crashing down. I can be your angel on the ground. If you get tired and can't go on I will carry you along. when the rocks below your feet wear out your shoes. When you're barefoot and bruised..."He stopped singing briefly at this point, andchanced looking away from the guitar, back to her before he started singing the next verse and chorus again, "I know you've been hurt, I know that you've been broken. Had to walk alone no hand to hold. But those lonely days are gone cause I am right beside you, down every long and darkened road.
Maybe when your sky comes crashing down, I can be your angel on the ground. If you get tired and can't go on I will carry you along. When the rocks below your feet wear out your shoes. When you're barefoot and bruised..."He lifted his fingers off the strings and his strumming hand floating above the guitar as the last notes resonated in the air around them. Then, he slowly lowered his fingers to stop the sound, his eyes fixed on hers. @braelynn (his version is different than this one and his voice doesn't sound like that but you get it XD)

Braelynn didn't know what she was.... expecting. What him playing and singing for her would do. She just knew, deep within her soul that she longed to hear it. To see that part of Zander once more. she shifted to sit on the edge of the bed, as Zander moved to retrieve the guitar, only to return and sit next to her. Of course she recognized the instrument. The last time she'd seen it was the last time she'd been at Hogwarts. Before everything went... wrong. Her eyes widened as he explained he'd written the song for her, though chose to speak. Because he started to play before she could come up with any sort of response.
It was a truly beautiful song.
During which, Braelynn seemed to be transfixed, unable to draw her attention away from the boy that meant more then heaven and earth to her. Her expression never changed to match the emotional storm Zander had so easily stirred up. The guilt for betraying him. The regret for not telling him sooner. The overwhelming love and the uncontrollable desire to tell him that she still loved him. That she loved him more then before even. Only after he finished singing, those last few notes silencing, that she... smiled.
It wasn't a big smile. But much more noticeable then the one she'd almost managed earlier. It was both sad and happy, as if unable to decide what exactly what she was feeling right now. "You didn't have too- I don't-Why...." She was struggling, trying to come up with something to say, something to describe what she was feeling. But there really was only one thing that could truly describe it. "Zander...." She started, unable to take her gaze from his own. "I love you." Despite her choices. Despite the Purifiers. Despite everything, she was in love with Zander Lloyd.

That smile.
He could have seen it from a mile away, felt the warmth that emanated toward him. He felt his heart ache at the sight and he wanted to get that guitar out of his way and take her in his arms right then, but he waited for her to speak first. This whole ordeal had given him an incredible lesson in patience, so he just waited. She started to speak, of how he didn't have to, and trying to say other things too, he could tell, but she was struggling to get words out. He didn't care, though. They were words and those were already prefacing what he hoped would come next. And then, it did.
She said his name first, a sound that caused his heart to ache even deeper and his own lips to curve into a gentle smile. And then... he took in a deep breath, slowly lifting the guitar over his head and setting in quietly on the ground beside him. His eyes never left hers as he did this, and he stayed silent as he did this. Finally, he leaned forward, just slightly. "I love you too, Braelynn," he slowly lifted a hand to touch her cheek, just lightly. "You know that. And that's all I want. I just want to love you and for you to love me," he lowered his hand from her face, "do you think that's possible?"

Braelynn had always known Zander was special. Ever since the day they met on staircase. Looking back on it she'd fallen for him that day. It had been love at first sight, it'd just taken her a little while to realize it. Everything he'd done since had just made her love him even more. She may not remember what had happened during those four days, but she was sure she knew why she'd done what they'd told her. She'd done it for him.
She caught his hand in her own as it was moved away from her face, and held it in both her hands. She never looked away from him as she spoke, asking if it was possible for him to love her and her to love him. She still didn't feel... worthy. He was so good, and pure. He deserved so much more then her. And yet, her heart soared with happiness that he wanted to chose her. Slowly she nodded. "That's all I want too. I can't promise much, but I'll be here. With you."
