Summer in Berlin was humid, much to most people's surprise. But Adrian didn't mind. He was used to it. The mosquitoes were a pain though. Oh well. He'd been home for a few weeks now, and his mother was more then thrilled. Between her band rehearsals and gigs, she spent as much time with her only son as possible. IT was starting to annoy him to be honest. Thankfully, she'd been letting him have his space today, which wasn't exactly a good sign. She'd made goulash, his favorite dish, last night, which she only ever did on special occasions or when she was trying to bribe him. And this morning? She'd given him two train passes for the day. two. Why two? It was just past nine am, and he was thoroughly confused, and suspicious. If she wanted to go out for the day with him, why would she give him the passes?
That was when the doorbell rang, and he felt his heart stop beating. Because through the open window of the living room he caught a familiar scent. That wasn't possible. Adrian was moving for the door as fast as he could, but his mother beat him to it, buzzing a fiery red head into their apartment building.
"Lily! It's so good to finally meet you! Come in, come in!" He heard his mother say from the door. Her accent was a lot thicker then his own when speaking English. But since he spoke mainly English most the year for the past five years, it wasn't to surprising. "Adrian. Aaaaadrian! Look who's here!" She called out in German as she escorted his friend into the apartment. Even the way she said he name was completely different, as was common when speaking other languages. "I see that, mother." He retorted, trying to keep a sour look on his face as he looked at his mother. How could she surprise him like this? How long had she been planning on inviting Lily over? How long had Lily known? Better yet, how had she kept it from him..? When he saw Lily though, he couldn't help but grin. "Hey, Lil."

Lily knew he was going to be pissed, and that made it all the better in her eyes. Adrians mother had written to her about three weeks before, inviting Lily to visit them in Germany over the summer for a few days. Lily, of course, had to ask her parents permission and once they conversed with Adrians mum a but they were willing to let her go. Her mother had actually traveled with her up until they found the right house then she kissed her goodbye and made her way to Adrians front door. On the porch, she froze for a moment as the overwhelming scent of Adrian overcame her. She found herself sighing, her shoulders melting, her body leaning closer to the door. There was something else too... a strange burning in her chest and a slight stinging behind her eyes. She didn't know what that was, but she chose to shake it off by lifting her hand to ring the bell. Soon his mother was at the door, heavy accent and all, leading her into the house. She set her bags aside, "it's nice to meet you too!" When the woman started speaking in German, Lily couldn't help but finally look up to search for Adrian in the room. Then she heard him speak and her eyes landed on his. She hadn't missed that sour look on his face, but she gave him one of the most adorable smirks she could muster and felt that tightening in her chest as he grinned back. "Hey, Adrian," she said, surprised at how small her voice sounded. She lifted a hand onto her hip and tilted her head to the side, her voice getting that loud confidence back again, "aren't you going to help me with my bags?"@adrian @adrians mum XD

Adrian hadn't realized how much he missed Lily until she was standing there. In his living room. He'd never thought that would happen. That it was possible. But the sight made him grin even more. And then he remembered his mother had done this all behind his back. "I've heard so much about you! You are just as pretty as your pictures!" His mother stated boldly before Adrian could muster up anything else to say. Instantly Adrian flushed. "Mother!" His protest only got a wicked grin. Well, at least now it was pretty obviously how he handled Lily so well. He got just as much grief from his mother. Though as Lily boldly asked if he was going to help her with her bags, he laughed. "You carried them this far by yourself. Why do you need help now?" That got a dirty look from his mother and a smack upside the head. "I didn't raise a mannerless son!" Adrian growled, rubbing the spot where he'd been smacked. It got another dirty, look, and he was moving. Mostly out of a need to preserve what was left of his dignity. As he picked up the bags, his mother spoke again. "In your room, Adrian." He stopped and raised an eyebrow. So that explained why she'd magically attacked his room yesterday, cleaning it spotless. That meant he must be on the couch.
"Come on, Lil. It's over here."With her bags in hand, he lead her into his room. His mother headed to the kitchen, whistling loudly and happily. The apartment wasn't the biggest one around, but it worked for the family of two. Germany in general wasn't to big when it came to houses. Most of it residences lives in apartment buildings, and Adrian and his mother were no exception. Once in the room, he tossed the bags onto the bed and leaned against the window. "It's kind of creepy that you and my mom pulled this off. You know that right?"

Pictures? Adrian had shown his mother pictures of her? Lily wasn’t that surprised, really, I mean pictures of her were a good thing to be showing off. But to his mother? Maybe it was just group pictures of their friends and whatnot. But since when did Adrian ever take a picture? Lily decided to just stand there, holding back a laugh as Adrian protested against his mothers words, his cheeks flushing. Lily bit her lip to hold back the laugh, but Adrian would know it was there, hiding behind her lips.
His mothers grin in response caused Lily to lose that control and a laugh burst through her lips. His mother, getting to know her, was going to be one of the most exciting things for Lily, she knew that already. She proved so far that she was a lot like Lily, perhaps even why Adrian could handle Lily all of these years.
At his words about her carrying the bags all the way up to the apartment by herself caused Lily’s hip to pop out and her hand to land there again. Before she could respond, however, his mother said something in German and smacked him upside the head. Lily’s eyes widened and she sucked in her lips as Adrian growled and was soon moving toward her to grab the bags. Lily smiled at his mother as she gave Adrian another instruction of some kind. ”Thank you,” she said before following Adrian as he beckoned her.
They entered one of the bedrooms and Lily assumed it was Adrians. She turned to him with a raised eyebrow, ”so, I get to sleep in your bed, huh?” her smirk grew even more mischievous as she said the words, crossing to the bed in question and tossing herself on it. Laying down, she lifted her hands behind her head and sighed. ”Psh, it’s not that creepy,” she said, rolling her eyes at him before turning her head toward the ceiling. ”It’s called a surprise, Ad. Most people like them.”

Adrian shrugged as she realized she would be staying in his room. "If you don't want it, the couch is also free." he suggested, matching that mischievous tone of hers with his own. It wasn't hard to see that this was, indeed, Adrian's room, though it didn't have as much character as you'd expect. Probably due to being at school so much. He just never had a desire to really personalize the room much. And it was unusually clean for a boy his age. As if he rarely spent any time in there... Which was true. He had better things to do then hang out in his room.
Still leaning against the window, he tilted his head as she said most people liked surprises. "Most people don't have you as a friend. Your surprises can get dangerous." It was true. While one of his closest friends, it didn't mean he actually trusted the girl to be nice. But that was one of the reasons they got along so well. He actually, as crazy as it sounded, liked her ruthless and merciless teasing and surprises. "Isn't this your first time to Germany?" He changed the subject. Because, he finally seemed to realize something. Even though it was right in front of him. Lily was in Germany. They could go do whatever they wanted.

”If you don’t want it, the couch is also free,” he said. Lily glared, ”the couch isn’t free genius, because you’re sleeping there,” she stuck her tongue out at him briefly before bringing the grin back. She didn’t mind being in his room, not one bit! It was oddly clean, though, though she assumed that was for her sake. She laid back on the bed, throwing her arms over her head in order to pull of that casually comfortable look.
Then he spoke about how her surprises could be dangerous and she snickered, ”that is true!” She spoke proudly of that fact, a happy laugh escaping her lips. Then at his next question she turned toward him, propping herself up on one elbow, ”it is,” she raised an eyebrow at him, ”gonna show me the sights or are you planning on spending all my time here in the bedroom?” she was being flirty, of course, because why not? Adrian would also know it was her way off teasing him too.

"It's free if you don't want the bed." Adrian corrected himself. Though he sounded quite serious, he actually wasn't. His mother would kill him if he seriously told Lily to sleep on the couch. He oddly agreed. While the idea of Lily having full access to his room and all it's contents was a terrifying thought, he preferred having to avoid the situation of coming across her asleep in the living room. Wait. Why was the strange to him? Why did the idea make his heart quicken just a little? Hm. That was probably fear. Had to be a delayed reaction to her taking his room.
Adrian grinned as Lily agreed. It wasn't like she could deny something like that. That grin widened even more when she accused him of making her spend the whole trip in his room. He'd gotten used to her flirting a long time ago. Though considering recent developments in their friendship, that flirting had gotten quite a bit stronger. He pushed himself off the wall and crossed to the bed, leaning forward and planting a hand on each side of her so their faces were only a breath a part. "Who says I have to pick just one?" He slowly asked, his expression unusually still... before a wolfish smirk broke free and he straightened and took a few steps back so he could open the closet to get out, and put on his shoes. "Anything you want to see first?"

Lily rolled her eyes, knowing that he wouldn't actually make her sleep on the couch and if he tried he'd probably be in trouble with his mother. She got more comfortable before-
Oh. So, that's what it feels like when your heart stops beating.
Lily caught her breathe as Adrian approached her to lean over her and make that little comment. His expression was calm, still and her eyes slightly widened. Before she could even react he was smirking, pulling away and moving to put on his shoes. She cursed silently in her mind. She sat up, rolling her neck as he asked what she wanted to see first. She shrugged, "I don't even know what there is to see. You be the guide," she said, pushing off the bed and straightening out her own clothes. She was still wearing shoes from having just arrived and didn't need to make that adjustment.
She couldn't help but glare at him as she stood there, though. She wasn't sure how to wipe it off her face.

Adrian felt like he'd... crossed a line there. She was always flirting with him, and he, periodically, flirted back. It'd always been short and intense, just like that comment. But it had been made in his bedroom for crying out loud! Putting his shoes on had given him a moment to take a deep breath to calm his raging nerves. "Why not Tiergarten then. It's.... the center of Berlin." He explained as she got up and turned to look at her. "There's the zoo, that's why it's called Tiergarten. It means animal garden. But you have a couple famous tourist sites...." He stopped speaking when he realized she was glaring at him.
Why the heck was she glaring? He raised an eyebrow. "Your face is going to stick that way if you keep that up." He commented, his grin back. Moving to the door he held it open for her as he called out to his mother in the kitchen. "We're going out for a while." "Have fun!" Now by the front door he picked up the two tickets his mother had given him, and held one out to Lily. "This is your train and bus pass. Buses will ask you to show it when you get on. Trains they'll ask sometimes, but not always."

Lily nodded as he explained the place in question. Then he made the comment about her face getting stuck that way and she shook her head, helping herself replace a smile onto her face and stop glaring. "If I spend much more time with you it probably will be," she muttered, smirking as she jumped off the bed and stepped through the door he held open for her. When he called out to his mother, she leaned back on the door frame, surveying him for a moment. her held cocked to one side. Before she could get too lost in her thoughts he was holding a ticket out to her.
She reached over to take it, her fingers brushing his slightly until she pulled the ticket free of them. "Bus passes, excellent. Lead the way, my führen," she kept her eyes on his, her smirk turning into a grin as she pushed off the wall, ready to go. She was actually rather excited about this zoo and tourist sights day with her best friend. There really wasn't anyone better to show her around Germany, after all.

"You don't sound that upset by the idea. Besides, if I wasn't around, who would you get into trouble with? Adrian raised an eyebrow and grinned. "You'd miss me too much." He added, taking a step back just in case she made a move to hit him again.
As she took the ticket and uttered that word in German, he grinned even wider. We'll work on the German. You'll be fluent by the time you head home." He joked as he opened the door and lead the way down the stairs, glancing back periodically at his friend. He really was happy to see her here despite his previous protests. Germany had always been something he kept to himself, none of his friends had ever visited him in the country during the summers. In fact, he'd never really wanted to share it with anyone else. But Lily was different. He wanted to share everything with her. That wa what good friends did... Right?
Down on the street, Adrian didn't even hesitate to take Lily's hand. It felt... Natural. "Train's this way. We should be able to catch the one that leaves in a few minutes." The station was only down the street. Adrian was unusually silent as he led his friend to the station and up onto the platform.

Truthfully, she wasn't that upset by the idea of spending more time with Adrian, hence why she had come all the way to Germany. Still, the glare returned to her face as he took that step back. "Hmmm," she un-clenched her face and placed one hand on her hip, the other pointing at him. "That's actually a good point. About the trouble not the missing you," she stuck her tongue out at him and then brought her hand back with a laugh. Truth was, especially now, she couldn't imagine a life without Adrian in it, but that was mostly due to the fact that they were a pack.
Soon she was following him, laughing at his comment about working on her German. "Then we can have even more secret conversations at school that no one will understand! Well, except others who speak German," she pointed out. She kept her eyes on him as they made their way down, not wanting to lose sight in case he sped up like a meanie face. He didn't, though. He just kept looking back at her with that smile on his face and she couldn't help but smile back.
Once on the street, Adrians hand found hers and Lily didn't even glance down or catch her breath in shock or anything. It was just a normal thing, a normal day. She nodded at him as he spoke about the train, "perfect!" She let him lead her but this time her eyes weren't on him anymore, they were glancing about the streets and the platform as they arrived. Germany really was beautiful! She kept hold of his hand and tightened her grip on it because if she didn't she was afraid she may get lost because she was too busy looking around. "These building are way old," she said, pointing to one they could see from the platform. It wasn't in a 'gross these building are old' way, but in a 'oh my gosh something actually survived that long' way. There were old buildings in London too, of course, but this place felt different.

Adrian just shrugged innocently at her refusal to admit she'd miss him. "Me and trouble are the same. It's both or nothing." Deep down though, he knew she'd miss him. He laughed as she said they'd have more secret conversations. To be honest, they already had a lot of those. Him and Lily were on the same wave length. They could just look at each other and know what the other was thinking. That had to be a pack thing. "Don't worry, we'll just learn one of the dialects. Even someone that speaks German wouldn't understand." That was the thing about German. All Germans spoke regular 'High' German. But each region had it's own dialect, or spin on the language. Adrian, obviously, understood and spoke high German, or Hoch deutsch. But being from Berlin, he spoke a specific dialect known as 'Berliner'. Thankfully it wasn't that different from regular German. Some areas though it was practically a different language. Adrian personally couldn't understand four of the German dialects, and German was his native language!
Adrian wasn't surprised that he was actually leading her. It gave her a chance to take in the city, while he made sure she didn't walk into something or fall behind. He smiling as they walked though and she pointed out how old the buildings were. "Only some of them. That's one of the churches that survived World War two and the Soviets. That one though....." He used his free hand to move her pointed finger to the building next to the church. It looked more like a giant concrete box then a building. "That's from after the war, when the Soviets came in and took control of east Germany. They weren't as creative at building." The train was pulling up to a stop, the doors hissing open and people quickly exiting. Adrian lead the way onto the train and took a seat. "If you think these are old, just wait till we get to Tiergarten."

Lily growled when he said that he and trouble are the same, that it was both or nothing. She knew that was partly true in her case but she wasn't going to say that aloud. Plus, she could cause plenty of trouble without his help. It was just more fun when he was around. Speaking of fun, his mention of learning a German 'dialect' so that they could be even more sneaky caused a wicked smile to appear on her face. "Sounds perfect," she giggled. Not that they necessarily needed a 'secret language' but it would be a nice touch. Plus, she felt like she owed it to him to try and understand his language a little better. His culture too. Isn't that why she was here?
She followed his finger, directing her to the two buildings beside each other that looked very different. She nodded, eyes still out and about as the train pulled to a stop. She didn't follow him into the train until she felt the pull on her hand, the sign that they were moving on. She looked at him with a small smile as they stepped inside and took a seat. "Can't wait," she said, turning away from him again to look out the windows. Then her mind wandered back to the morning so far and meeting his mom and she realized something. "Hey," she said, turning back to him, headed tilted to the side, "your mum says your name differently than I do. Have I been saying it wrong?"

The train didn’t stop for long, just long enough to let people on and off, and then it was moving once more. Adrain leaned forward to look out the window with Lily, to try and figure out what might catch her attention. They weren’t far from Tiergarten. They’d take this train a few stops, and then they’d switch to a, what most people called them, subway. In Germany they were called a ‘U-bahn’. Once on that it’d only be three stops to their destination. His train of thought was totally derailed though when Lily turned to him and spot abruptly. He hadn’t been excepting that.
”What?” It took him a moment to realize what she’d said. ”Oh. That.” He frowned, running his free hand through his hair. ”Yeah, she does. You’re not saying it wrong…. Technically.” He admitted sheepishly. ”It’s just a different language. A’s are pronounced softer in German. They make an ‘ah’ sound. So Adrian sounds like…” He said his name slowly. It sounded more like Ah-dre-ahn. ”But you say it right for English.” Adrian personally didn’t care. He was used to his name being pronounced two different ways. That was just how languages worked. It was the same name, just a different languages’ form of it.
