The Monsters walk among us The new school year was fast approaching as the summer was coming to an end, and it was finally time to make the hectic trek back to Diagon Alley for school supplies. That dreaded time of year where it seemed like every person in the magical world decided it was a good idea to go to the shopping district, whether or not it was to actually do shopping or just to people watch. It was an unusually warm August day, the dry sun beating down on the masses of families running helter-skelter every which way in the hopes of getting the best goods before they were all gone. Grey had been accompanied by his parents and his younger sister, Addi, but at some point got separated from them in the large thrall of bodies moving through the tiny street. They had made a contingency plan ahead of time to meet up at Flourish & Blott’s should this happen, since both Slater children needed to get their books and the lines were always ridiculously long, and the odds of one family member getting in line and waiting through the majority of it only increased as time went on. It had happened in the past, and ended up working to their advantage. Grey only hoped that he wouldn’t pull the unlucky straw this year and get to the store first. It was so boring just standing there and waiting for his family to find him. After loitering around a few shops for about twenty minutes, Grey finally decided that it was time to head to the bookstore. He set down the strange object he had been observing, his interest in it lost after seeing the price tag attached to it, and headed back out onto the main street. He was as far away from Flourish & Blott’s as physically possible, having ran to this point after realizing his family had disappeared so that he didn’t have to do his due diligence in line. The sun was still blazing overhead, despite it not being past noon yet, the sweltering heat slapping him in the face as he stepped into the street. Grey was fully aware that his family might have been up to his game, and would let him get to the store first on purpose. He only became increasingly irate as he approached the store, noting that the line was out the door and down another block. And that was just to get into the store to buy books. “Just my luck.” He muttered to himself as peaked into the front window, looking for a Slater family member inside. Nothing. Standing up straight, he let out a deep sigh and headed down the line outside, hoping he wasn’t the first there. A few minutes of walking later, and he was at the back of the line. Not only that, but he was the end of the line. Neither his parents, nor Addi, had gotten there yet. How was that even possible? Shoving his hands deep into his pants pockets, Grey prepared himself for the horrid hours that lay before him in the line. The positive was that he would only go forward from here; the negative was that it was only going to get hotter out, and soon he would have someone behind him in line, most likely breathing down his neck the entire time. He had to have done something dreadful in his past life to deserve this treatment. Closing his eyes, he prepared for the long wait, shuffling forward slowly every time the person in front of him moved. What seemed like an hour later, he finally felt the chilly air of the bookstore kiss his face. Sweet, sweet relief. Now he just had to find the books both he and Addi needed, and that would be an adventure in and of itself. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Summer was finally almost over and Addi was reminiscing. It had been a fast summer, and she just wanted it all back before the stress and worry of school came head on. She was slightly worried about this upcoming year; she didn't want any more bad things happening at Hogwarts as it was. Last year was horrible, and Addi, being the happy, bubbly girl she is, needed it to just stay the way it had been the past few years. No death, no kidnappings, nothing of the sort. Thankfully, none of her friends were hurt, and neither was her older brother. Addilyn wasn't sure what she would do if anything ever happened to Grey; it's something she thinks about every day and every night, especially lying in bed. She loved her older brother dearly, she just hoped he knew that.
Grey, Addi and their parents spent the day in Diagon Alley, buying new robes and school supplies for the upcoming year. They had been there since early that morning and she was starting to get hungry. However, they had all ended up splitting up so she wasn't able to eat until they all found one another again. Addi had everything but her books, which was going to be her last stop. She had taken a stroll through a few different stores, buying a few small things here and there and a few gifts for some of her friends back at school...like Kyle. But, that was her secret and no one had to know how big of a crush she had on him. That would be extremely embarrassing, and it most likely would make Grey extremely angry.
After walking for a few more minutes Addi made her way into Flourish & Blotts. Like every year the line was way too long and it felt like she had been standing there for hours. However she eventually made her way into the front door of the store. Her eyes glanced back and forth, looking for Grey or her parents but she hadn't spotted them yet. Addi had started glancing around for the books she needed. Only grabbing one so far, she turned and instantly saw Grey. Addi started making her way through the crowd, apologizing and smiling to every person she pushed through. She finally made it towards Grey and she smiled at her brother. "Hey you! See you made it inside as well. How long have you been here?"

The Monsters walk among us Flourish & Blott’s was beyond packed. Diagon Alley’s crammed streets seemed like nothing to him now. Everyone in the small store was shuffling as far as they could without bumping into another person, which happened regardless. So far, Grey had been able to get a few of the books he needed. They were slowly starting to stack up in his arms as he waddled towards what would hopefully be the location of his next book. He had yet to see any of his family members, assuming that even if they were in the store, he would never be able to find them. Crossing through the checkout line in the middle of the store for what had to be the one hundredth time, Grey felt the hot, arid air from outside pour into the small building. This weather was absolutely draining and he just wanted to have this school shopping said and done with. What looked like a good start to the day, ended up with him doing more work than normal, and he didn’t have the energy to that. He kind of felt bad for his family, because they probably wouldn’t hear the end of his complaining once they met up with him again. Stopping for a few seconds to readjust his hold on his books, Grey noticed a familiar bob of blonde hair moving in his direction through the hordes of shoppers. At that moment, he really dreaded figuring out that she might have been in the store before him. That would mean he spent all that time waiting and sweating in line for absolutely no reason. He silently cursed the magical world’s lack of technological communication. If they were muggles, this never would have happened. So much for being an advanced society. As his younger sister got closer, he could tell by the expression on her face that she had just been let into the store. Grey figured that the long lines, crowds, and hot weather probably wouldn’t even have an effect on Addi and her happy-go-lucky outlook on life anyways. The two of them couldn’t be any more different from each other. Throw in the addition of Claire, and, well, it was like all three siblings were from different families. Addi inquired how long he had been there as she walked towards him. “Too long.” He said bluntly. It was probably pretty apparent that he wasn’t happy with the situation, but he had help now, hopefully making the whole ordeal easier. “I have to get my Charms and Transfiguration books still. No idea where they are, though.” He stated, peering all over the cramped space to see if he could catch a glimpse of what he was looking for. Grey noticed that Addi only had one book so far. He didn’t recognize the cover on it, but then again it could have been a new edition of a textbook. For the first few years at Hogwarts, he was able to get away with using Claire’s old books since they were pretty much the same every year. In a way, he hoped that Addi didn’t need too many books, that way they could get in line and get out of the shop as soon as possible. His hands full of his own books, Grey stuck his elbow out to indicate the book Addi had in her arms. “Which class is that for? I don’t recognize the cover.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Addi, her usual happy self made a face at her older brother at his response. She wish he'd be happy every once in a while. Granted, she was always happy herself, but still! It wasn't every day that you had to be angry or upset about something and she felt like that was who Grey was. It was upsetting for her, but at the same time Addilyn knew there wasn't anything she could do to help him but love him and be there for him. That was all she really knew, and she was comfortable with doing just that. "It was pretty long, but we'll be out of here before you know it, trust me. Just have to keep yourself occupied is all!"
She nodded her head at her brother. So he needed two more books, while she needed about three. "Well, I've already got your book from last year for Care of Magical Creatures and Potions. I also need my Charms, Transfiguration and DADA book. So we're almost there!" Addi grinned at her brother; she hoped someday her joyful face and happy persona would kick him out of this rut he was in. It was only a matter of time before he realized how great of a little sister he had. He mentioned the book in her hand and she smiled. "It's my Apparition book!"

The Monsters walk among us Grey could tell that his sister was giving him the look. The happy one where it was pretty obvious that she knew he was upset about something and wanted him to cheer up. He had gotten better about it over the past few years, but every now and then he slipped back into his old, irritable habits. Today was one of those days. Large crowds, hot weather, having to actually do something productive for the first time in months. All of that thrown together was a recipe for disaster in Grey’s laid back lifestyle. Add to the mix that he still wasn’t sleeping properly, and, well, one can only guess how he ended up the way he was today. Closing his eyes for a few seconds, he blocked out the noise of the shop, taking a deep breath in the process. He’d try his best since he could tell Addi was worried about him. Plus there was no need to get worked about it anymore, since he had gotten half of his books, and found his sister. That was practically two birds with one stone. Grey loved efficiency, and it happened to work in his favor today without too much effort involved. “Don’t worry.” Grey said, acknowledging his sister, despite her not saying anything about his attitude. He leaned in closer to hear Addi talk, the crowd around them was loud enough to muffle her voice before Grey could understand what she was saying. He caught the end of her saying that she also need Charms and Transfiguration, as well as DADA. Perfect. Both of them could get their respective books while in the same area, and then they just had to hunt down the DADA one after that. “Good thing we both need the same stuff. That’ll make this a lot easier.” He looked down at the book in her hand once again as she mentioned that it was the Apparition book. Grey had completely forgotten about that class. He had taken it the previous year as well, and was surprisingly successful at it. The downside of it was that it made him absolutely nauseous every time he did it, so for the time being he used muggle public transport or walked to wherever he needed to go. “That’ll be a fun class,” he said, indicating the Apparition book. “Both Claire and I flew through it. No doubt you will too.” Taking another deep breath, Grey looked around the store once again to see where the two siblings could easily start their adventure in obtaining their remaining books. He couldn’t remember where the sections were for Charms and Transfiguration, but he knew the DADA books were typically near the checkout counter. “Where do you want to start? I’ll leave it up to you.”grey xavier slater & @jill2 464 Breaking Their Hold by Avenged Sevenfold no prob on the length. I can work with anything haha MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Grey had told her not to worry and Addi rose an eyebrow at him. So sometimes he could tell what she was thinking, but it wasn't all the time, that's for sure. She usually tried to keep her opinion to herself but sometimes it just happens! And not only that but her opinions can offend some and that is not something Addilyn ever really wants to do. She just wants others to see her side and feelings and hopefully they'd change. Unfortunately, Grey is a hard one to budge. But Addi will always love him no matter what, he's just a pain on occasion, like the normal older brother should be. Addilyn shrugged her shoulders and gave her brother a big grin, "Alrighty, then!" He then mentioned that it will be easier that they need books that are for the same class, most likely just different editions. Addi nodded her head. "Yeah, thankfully. This story is nutty every time we come to Diagon Alley!" It was one of Addi's less favorite stores. She usually enjoyed the ones with clothing and animals, but even so, she did enjoy reading just not this long, terrible wait.
Addilyn listened as Grey spoke of the Apparition class. She smiled, thinking about her older sister and brother attempting to apparate. It was slightly humorous, but she wasn't going to laugh too hard. She couldn't imagine the difficult things she was about to face herself. "I hope so, I've heard it's a bit stressful." This blonde girl was not looking to get sick or cut in half.
"We can start with the two books we both need. It'll probably make it easier in the long run and we may be able to get out before mum and dad get here." Addi grinned at her tall brother. Her teeth shown brightly and she started to walk through the crowd of people.

The Monsters walk among us Both Claire and Addilyn were clearly more intelligent than Grey was; that much had been made clear as the three siblings were growing up. Grey had mostly chalked it up the fact that he really hadn’t cared all too much for school until his fourth year, and the idea of putting effort into anything was a drag. Of course, he made up for this in his intense interest and knowledge of Quidditch, Charms, and even his skills as a reporter. The keen eye and quick witted mind he had was all thanks to those, and the fact that it had laid dormant until fourth year was quite an accomplishment. That’s exactly how he knew that Addi would be able to excel at virtually anything she did, especially apparition. Was it stressful the first few goes? Yes, very much so. The instructors always scared the students stiff with the horror stories of people getting body parts spread all over the place but it rarely ever happened. Sure, some Ravenclaw kid may have misplaced his left ear when Grey was taking the class, but it was easily reversible once they found it in the coffee pot the next morning at breakfast. “As long as you have a clear mind while you’re apparating, it’ll be a cinch.”Grey nodded his head in approval as Addi proposed that they try and get the books that they both needed first. It was easily the most efficient way of getting this ugly business done, plus with two of them, they’d be able to easily push through the crowd that growing larger. He would have no problem making his way through them, but Addi was quite a bit shorter than Grey was, and it was obvious that she could easily get pushed around in a large group. As he followed her, he had to turn sideways to squeak through a small opening in a line. In doing so, Grey lost his grip on the books he had collected so far and they went tumbling to the ground. “Merlin’s beard…” Grey muttered as he bent over to grab his books. Picking up a few of the books that had landed in front of his feet upon the collision, Grey counted them to make sure he had ahold of all of them. He was one book short. Grey counted them again. Still one book short. Briefly looking at the covers, he realized that the missing text was his new Potions book, the one class he had really struggled in. “Addi hold up,” he yelled over the crowd, noticing that his sister was a good distance away from him at this point. “I dropped my Potions book somewhere.”

Addi grinned sheepishly at her brother. She definitely had an open mind, no matter how nervous it might make her to take this course. She knew it was going to be fun, but it was also going to have it's difficulties. However, it did give her a better mind set knowing that both her brother and sister passed easily and without harm. It wasn't too difficult of a task, the more she thought about it. "Yeah, clear mind. Got it." Addi smiled.
Making her way through the crowd of people, Addi was slipping and sliding. Being smaller, it was more difficult to push, but she had the advantage of ducking and having great agility. With high hopes that Grey was following her and could see her, she tried her hardest to get to the books they needed as fast as possible. Thankfully, Addilyn heard Grey calling for her to hold up because a group of people had stopped right in front of her and weren't moving. With a large sigh, Addi turned around and went back to Grey. He had said one of his books were gone and she scrunched up her face. Bending down between legs and feet of people, her eyes darted back and forth, looking around for a book on the floor. "I don't see it Grey..." She had just finished talking when someone walking kneed her in the face. Addi fell backwards, holding her nose. She felt slightly dizzy for a moment then sat up, "Ugh..." Blood was running down her fingers.

The Monsters walk among us Still scanning the floor where his books had fallen, Grey noticed that Addi had joined him in his search. Unless it had gotten kicked by someone when it hit the floor, it couldn’t have gone too far away. The problem was that there were too many damn people in the tiny store, a fact that he hadn’t gotten over all day. The constant shuffle of feet and bodies all around him made it that much worse. Grey wasn’t claustrophobic by any means, but staring at the floor in an attempt to spot a book that may be there whilst hundreds of robes, cloaks, and shoes was definitely a sure way to get claustrophobia fast. Straightening up he tried looking for his sister again. He was positive that she had headed in his direction after he called for her, but it was nigh impossible to see her amidst the crowd. He decided to give a few more minutes of searching before he switched to finding the little blonde girl instead. It would probably be an equally daunting task. And then the two of them would continue their original task of getting the rest of their books. Grey could always just grab another Potions book off the shelf. Thinking about it realistically, that was much easier than what they were currently doing. Turning around, Grey caught sight of Addi once again, pushing through the crowds that stood between them. “Don’t worry about looking for it Addi. I can just grab another one after we get the rest of…” He trailed off as he got closer to his sister, noticing that she was sitting on the ground and holding her face, the red sheen of blood all over her hand and face. Looking around, he couldn’t tell how the accident had happened, but it seemed like no one else had noticed yet. He quickly pulled his wand out of his pocket as he approached Addi, trying to remember the simple first aid spells that he had learned. They were bound to be useful at some point in time, and Grey had always assumed that he would have to use them on himself post-epic duel as an Auror. Kneeling down in front of Addi, Grey motioned for her to move her hands away from her nose. He was unsure if it was broken or not, but he would need to see it first. “I’ll get you fixed up in no time. Just need to you to pull your hand away from your nose.” As he waited for Addi to take her hand away, he started focusing on siphoning the blood away with a Tergeo charm. It was a practical house-hold cleaning spell, but Grey had always found a good use for it with removing blood quickly. The last thing he wanted was to scare the other patrons in the store. When Grey noticed Addi on the floor bleeding, he seemed slightly concerned. It made Addi smile through the blood pouring out of his nose. Sometimes she wished their relationship could always be like this; funny, happy, and close. But for some reason, Grey wasn't one to show his affections or feelings and he definitely didn't seem to want to be close to Addi like she wanted. Maybe some day in the future, but for right now, Addi just had to deal with how he was and keep trying her hardest to get the older brother she really wanted in life.
Grey told her to take her hands away from her nose as he pulled out his wand. Slightly worried that he would cause her more harm, she thought for a moment and knew she trusted him. However, Addilyn still shut her eyes tightly before she pulled her bloody hands away from her nose, awaiting whatever spell Grey was about to cast towards her face.

The Monsters walk among us This was definitely a direr situation that Grey had initially thought. Despite cleaning up a good amount of blood right when he got to Addi, there was still more coming from her nose, and it didn’t look like it had the intentions to stop any time soon. As he waited for his sister to pull her hand away, he diligently continued whisking away the blood, making sure it didn’t get on anyone else or all over the floor. The way it was looking at the time though, it seemed like that was going to be an impossible task. Eventually, Addi closed her eyes and started to get her hand off her face. More blood spilled out, and Grey grimaced. He had never seen a broken nose up close, but this was starting to look like one. He was kind of glad Addi didn’t see his reaction to it. For one thing, the worse off it was, the easier it was to diagnose. The only problem was that no matter what the spell was that he would decide to use, fixing a nose would hurt. A lot. Still, it was better than bleeding out on the floor of a crammed bookshop. Closing his eyes too, Grey tried to visualize the medical spells that he had learned. There were quite a few that could fix Addi’s nose in a jiffy, but he needed one that was more discrete, so as not to disturb any onlookers. Plus it needed to be simple enough that he couldn’t screw it up. He could only imagine the pain she was already in, and he wasn’t too keen on making it worse. Finally coming to a conclusion, Grey pointed his wand at Addi’s nose. “Ok. I’m not sure how much this is going to hurt. If your nose is broken, probably a lot. If not, well, I don’t really know. As long as you keep your head still, it’ll be fixed in no time.” Taking a deep breath, Grey repeated the spell, Episkey, over and over in his head to make sure he had it clear enough that he wouldn’t make a mistake. “On three it’ll be fixed, ok? One, two, Episkey.” A faint light lit up his wand. Hopefully it wasn’t too painful. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Addi's heart began beating faster and faster as Grey spoke. She scrunched up her face, and held her hands in fist, preparing for the pain that was about to ensue. Thankfully, Grey was being extremely nice and sweet about it all, and she could tell by the spells he was using that he was cleaning up the blood at the same time.
She counted to three with him, and when he finally did it, when he finally fixed her nose, the pain was horrible. It felt like someone was re-breaking the bone. Her whole head had a shooting pain and she was dizzy for a few moments. "Shit!" Addilyn shook her head, and held her nose again. All of the blood was gone but damn, it still hurt like hell. Her blue eyes glanced up at her older brother, and a few tears welled up in her eyes. Addi leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you so much, Grey."

The Monsters walk among us As the spell still enveloped Addi’s nose, Grey was unsure if it was actually taking effect. He had never used it before, but it appeared like some kind of spell had been cast. Whether it was the right one or not, well, that would be found out soon enough. Waiting silently, he could see his sister’s demeanor change as a small but audible pop and crack noise came from her nose. She yelled out as this happened, grabbing her nose once again. Grey fell backwards at this, thinking he had just caused her nose to literally blow up on her face. Spells were a fickle thing, and healing ones could go horribly wrong if not executed properly. Luckily for both of them, it seemed to have gone perfectly. Waving his wand around a few more times, Grey cleaned up the remaining blood that he could see and stood up, offering his hand to Addi to help her stand. From the amount of blood she had lost, surely she was going to be a little faint and the last thing Grey wanted her doing was passing out the minute she got to her feet. Despite her small stature, even he would have trouble holding onto dead weight. “It’s the least I could do.” He said calmly, placing his wand back in his pocket. It was nice to be able to use magic after not doing so in such a long time. “Plus, I’m your older brother. That’s what I’m here for, right?” Grey cracked a small smile as Addi hugged him. He definitely wasn’t expecting that reaction out of her. Then again, he did just fix her broken nose, and he had done it fast too. Most people probably would have panicked in a situation where a younger sibling was injured, especially with that amount of blood. Grey acted tough when he had to, but there was no way he would be conscious right now if he and Addi switched places. Losing any amount of blood for him was pretty much an instant knock out. “No rush getting up. We have plenty of time.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

As Grey helped Addi up to her full height and kept a hold of her, she got the full force of what had happened to her. With the amount of blood she lost, her head was currently spinning, as were the hundreds of people that were in the room. Addilyn shut her eyes, and kept a tight hold onto her brother. She took deep breaths, waiting for the pain and dizziness in her brain to go away. Unfortunately, the pain may not go away, but once the blood starts flowing again her dizziness should come to a halt.
At Grey's next words Addi had the biggest smile on her face, not only that, but when she pulled away from giving him a hug he even had a smile. Wow! That was...different, to say the least. Addilyn let go of Grey and put her hand on a nearby bookshelf, acting as if nothing had happened and she was just browsing the selection there. "Yes, that is what you're here for. But I'm glad you helped, Grey, I really am." Oh, does Addi wish they were always this close. It was hard for her to tell people that she had an older brother, but they were just on friendly terms who bickered. It was sad to her, but she knew Grey was his own person and wasn't all that into being her best friend.

The Monsters walk among us Grey braced himself for the inevitable as Addi stood up. He already knew that there was a chance she could pass out, and prepared for it as she straightened her legs out. As she did, grey could tell that the loss of blood had affected her, Addi’s hand gripping onto his harder as she tried to stay standing. Doing his best to keep her from falling back to the ground, he supported his sister as she waited to get over her dizzy spell. Grey could only imagine how scary that had to be, especially after losing such a large amount of blood. Still stabilizing her as she overcame her dizziness, Grey remembered that he had dropped his Potions book somewhere on the ground. He honestly didn’t care about that anymore, since it wasn’t that important. He’d just grab a new one off the shelf once Addi was ready to move around again. If he had done that in the first place, well, then she wouldn’t have broken her nose. He couldn’t help but think that it was partially his fault for letting go of the books in the first place and asking Addi for help. It was times like this that Grey preferred to do things on his own, because he was afraid that his carelessness would end up hurting others. Kyle and Rai were typically the only exception to this, since they had long since proven that they were in it for the long haul. Addi on the other hand wasn’t, and Grey didn’t want her getting hurt like she had today. After a short while, Addi pulled away from him and walked towards a bookshelf nearby. That was a good sign. Grey was positive that his spell had worked, especially since she hadn’t mentioned her nose hurting still, and as far as he could tell, all the blood had been cleaned up without anyone really noticing. Picking up the few books he had left on the floor, as well as Addi’s, he walked to where she was standing, setting them on top of the bookshelf. “Hopefully that doesn’t hurt for too long.” He stated, pointing at his nose to indicate what he was talking about. Grey wasn’t exactly sure what to do now. For starters, he wanted to make sure Addi was feeling ok, but at the same time it was probably better for them to find their remaining books and get to somewhere where she could sit down and rest. “Want me to get the rest of the books while you rest here? I don’t really want to leave you on your own if you’re not feeling good though…”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0
