Rai was standing near the entrance to the Great hall beside Finn. The Headmaster got up to make his speech and she smirked at the mention of the aurors, her eyes flickering to Grey at the Gryffindor table. She hadn't told him she was being stationed here which made the whole thing even more fun. She and Finn were two of the aurors that were stationed at Hogwarts this year and she couldn't be any more thrilled. They were told in advance about the tournament and were prepared for whatever was coming next on the baddie front as well. Rai wasn't sure if this was the best year to have the tournament after everything that has happened, but she understood the need to keep tradition even in the face of adversity. Heck, it was a good idea to encourage international cooperation, especially now.
After the introductions and the sorting, the feast had begun and people started mingling with the other school kids and each other, welcoming the first years. Rai turned to Finn, "stop slouching," she joked, sticking her tongue out at him from the side of her mouth. grey xavier slater

Finn was excited to be back at Hogwarts, but it felt a little bittersweet. He wished that he had been able to enter the Triwizard Tournament and seek eternal glory. He had a momentary daydream where he was holding the Triwizard Cup above his head, victor of the tournament, people were chanting his name, Dominique's face sticking out in particular, glowing with pride. He looked around for the blonde Ravenclaw, and spotted her at the far end of the Ravenclaw table; he'd say hello later, he didn't want to interrupt her conversations with her friends. He had seen her relatively recently over the summer, and they had corresponded many times via owl since then. He didn't exactly like the idea of sharing her, but understood it was necessary.
Finn was jerked out of his thoughts by Rai pretend scolding him not to slouch. "Am not slouching," he whispered, sticking his tongue out back at her. "Why don't you stop trying to catch Grey's eye and go talk to him," he said slyly. Unknown to Rai, he had met up with Grey a few days ago at the Fountain of Fair Fortune. While he hadn't been able to get much out of the boy, his main reason for going was to see how he felt about his best friend; the last think he ever wanted was for Rai to get her heart broken. Then Finn would have to punch a few peoples' noses in.

Home Is Such A Lonely Place without you The speech by the headmaster had definitely been a thrilling entrance for a final year at school, and Grey could only imagine what was in store for everyone at Hogwarts, both students and the other schools alike. The Triwizard Tournament…possibly the greatest challenge to prove oneself to an international audience was here, and he could enter it. Sure, it was a shot in the dark, but Grey was already imagining being chosen to represent Hogwarts. It would be the best moment of his life. And taking it a step further, he would have a one in third chance to win it. Not exactly bad odds by any means. Pondering this thought still as the feast began and the rest of the students started to mingle, Grey stood up and started to wander around the Gryffindor table. He wasn’t exactly hungry anymore, the thought of entering the tournament was enough to get his adrenaline going. His first course of action was to find Kyle and come up with a game plan should one of them get picked; or better yet, a way to guarantee that they could picked. Grey wasn’t one to play dirty, but he was sure other students would attempt it as well, so brainstorming a plan prior to the selection wouldn’t hurt at all. Walking between two of the house tables, Grey finally came to the end of them, near the entrance to the hall. A few of the Aurors that the headmaster had mentioned were standing around observing all the students. He couldn’t help but think that someday that would be him. Looking at the small group, his eyes met with two familiar faces: Finn and Rai. Finn had mentioned the week before that trainees might be stationed at Hogwarts this year, but Grey had never thought that this was what he was talking about. What were the odds that both of them would be here, too? Grey smiled as he headed towards the two of them, overjoyed that they were going to be here for the entire year. He hoped it would be like they never left in the first place. “Who’d you two have to blackmail with Howlers and puking pastilles to get this gig? Or did you really miss Hogwarts and little old me that much that you got on your hands and knees and begged?” MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

"Nice," Rai responded, pointing a finger gun at him, to his sticking tongue out back at her. Then he called her out on looking at Grey and she rolled her eyes, folding her arms, ”I’m on duty, Finn. Some of us don’t go around flirting while working,” she said, nodding her head toward the Ravenclaw table. She didn’t realize she had just said ‘flirting’ in reference to Grey, since the comment was meant for Dominique.
Then she looked away from Finn just in time to see that Grey was absentmindedly moving toward them. She grinned, waiting patiently for him to make the first comment. And there it was, sassy and Greyesque as ever. "Oh, Finn did the begging. I did the blackmailing,” she explained, her voice entirely casual as if what she was saying was fact. She raised an eyebrow at him, ”or maybe we were just sent here to make sure the Durmstrang kids don’t kick your butt? I mean look at them,” she gave a low whistle then turned toward Finn, "isn't that right, Finn?"

Finns' scoff quickly turned into laughter as Grey made his way over to them. "Speak of the devil, Grey, good to see you," he said, clapping his friend on the shoulder. "And Rai definitely did a little begging. We couldn't miss the opportunity to watch the Triwizard Tournament being competed, even if we can't enter," he told him a little wistfully. Of course something this exciting would happen the year after he graduated from Hogwarts so he wouldn't be able to compete. Not that he would have really wanted to be the Hogwarts champion; though the perks of all of that glory would be pretty nice. No, it'd be good to see whoever was selected for the Hogwarts champion do their best against whatever daring and insane tasks they'd be set against. He remembered hearing the last time they had held the competition a Durmstrang student had won; hopefully this year Hogwarts would once again reign supreme.
As he noticed more people looking around the hall at the new Aurors, Finn made to be out of Dominique's line of vision. "I want to surprise her; so don't let Dom see me here," he whispered. He had been pretty open about his feelings for Dom to a very small number of people, Rai included of course, but knew that anything that would happen would have to be taken slowly after Ethan's death last year. "Anyway, I'd be more worried about some of those Beauxbatons girls; some of them might have literal looks that can kill," he joked, noticing a few looking disdainfully around the hall. "So...you entering Grey?" he asked.

I C A N T R E M E M B E R A W O R D Y O U W E R E S A Y I N G ARE WE DEMENTED OR AM I DISTURBED? * * * * * * * Grey couldn’t stop himself from laughing as Rai and Finn bantered back and forth over his question. Just like old times. “Some things really don’t change do they?” He said to himself. Crossing his arms, Grey stepped back and stood next to his friends, observing the Great Hall as students started to interact with each other. He couldn’t help but feel like he fit in, standing there with two Aurors. They were technically in training still, but his friends were far enough along that there was no way they could get kicked out of the program now. In a year’s time, Grey would be in their position, albeit not guarding students for a Triwizard Tournament, and hopefully not protecting them in general. “I get it, I get it. Both of you begged. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss this thing either. It’s unreal.” Grey paused before continuing. “Sorry that the two of you missed it by a year. Either one of you would make a pretty good champion, that’s for sure.”As Grey looked over the crowd, he could hear Finn whispering something to Rai. Grey ignored it, figuring it was some sort of official Auror business. If it was for him to know, then it would have been said out loud. Ah yes, the Beauxbatons girls. There was something extremely enticing about them for some reason. Grey had noticed that similar affect with a few girls at Hogwarts too, but had no idea what to attribute it to. “You’re not wrong. The lot of them don’t look too friendly.” He trailed off as he continued to scan the crowd. Grey was mostly looking to see if Claire was there, and if she was, how to avoid her. So far it looked like she hadn’t been assigned to Hogwarts. That was good. He didn’t need her breathing down his neck during his last year there. He turned to face his friends, answering Finn’s question. “I’m not really sure right now. It’s kind of overwhelming, having it thrown on us like that all of a sudden.” Grey had noted how markedly different the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students were compared to his fellow Hogwarts students. They had probably known for months that it was being held. That would have helped out a little. “I might, but at the same time I have the paper and classes to worry about. If I do it, I’ll need a pretty good reason.” He was still apprehensive that his family would think him entering the tournament was a way of trying to prove himself to them, something he had been working away from. If he entered, it was going to be for the school and for himself, not for them. WORDS 454 TAGGED grey xavier slater & @railynn & @finn SONG Lips of Deceit by Avenged Sevenfold

Rai narrowed her eyes as Finn claimed that she didn't a little begging, but her expression changed to one of acceptance when he said that they couldn't miss the opportunity to watch the tournament. Grey mentioned how some things never change and she smirked, nodding, "don't expect the adult world to be that different, Grey. It's just bigger," she said with a little chuckle. Rai nodded as Grey commented on how the tournament was 'unreal'. She ruggedness, "eh, I'm sure we would have completely crushed it but, alas, that's Hogwarts' loss," she winked ad Finn and then turned her eyes back to Grey. Rai laughed out loud as Finn asked her to block Dom's view of him. She shifted slightly so that she could block the line of sight effectively, but Dom looked pretty focused on what she was doing at the Ravenclaw table. At Finns comment about the Beaux girls, Rai gave a faux shudder and shifted closer to Finn to press her shoulder again his. "Agreed," she nodded as Grey agreed too. Then Finn asked Grey what she was thinking, whether he was entering or not and Rai was clearly not satisfied with his answer. She frowned, but waited for him to continue and talk about how he had to worry about the paper, and how he needed a pretty good reason. "I think you'd be great," she said, giving an encouraging smile, "if anything do it for us," she joked, elbowing Finn lightly in the ribs for some back up. grey xavier slater@finn

Finn nodded encouragingly as Rai urged Grey to enter the Tournament. “Do it for us old-timers Grey,” he said jokingly, elbowing Rai right back. He flashed back to his and Grey’s conversation at the Fountain of Fair Fortune that summer when Grey asked him if he was dating Rai and smiled. He supposed, to an outsider, it could seem like they were dating. Bring that up to either of them though and they’d both laugh in that person’s face. Finn had met Rai on the first day on board the Hogwarts Express; she had joined the rowdy compartment of himself, Fred and James as they hurtled off towards school. While they’d all been Sorted into Gryffindor, and Rai had been friendly with the other two, she and Finn had always had a special bond that was stronger than any romance could hope to be. He was an only child, and she didn’t get along with her elder brother that much; they had been perfectly wonderful surrogates for each other.
“Plus, even if you do enter your name, there are so many students who will be entering. Your chances would be slim,” he said casually, knowing that his quip would probably egg Grey on. Grey was a true Gryffindor like him; you made a comment that perhaps he couldn’t do it, he wouldn’t be worthy, and Grey would show you that you were wrong. “Rai should we try to enter our names and see what the Goblet does?” he suggested, grinning devilishly. His “uncle” George had told him and Fred about the time he and his twin along with Finn’s father had tried to put their names in the Goblet of Fire; they had taken an aging potion so they would be considered of age to enter. Dumbledores’ age line however got the better of them and they were chucked back out of the circle, while they sprouted great white beards. He wondered what it would be like for someone who was of age but not a student to try and enter the Tournament; probably a similar reaction, but minus the beards.

Home Is Such A Lonely Place without you That was the first time he had heard anyone tell him that the adult world wasn’t any different. He had pretty much expected that there wouldn’t be too much change between things, especially right away. There was probably a honeymoon-esque period following graduation for most young adults before they realized the harshness that actually existed all around them. Grey assumed Finn and Rai probably had a little more time before that hit them head on. It was too bad too, since they were the type of people that deserved a fun-loving world devoid of nasty witches and wizards and awful situations. Grey laughed at both of their reactions to him possibly entering the tournament. It was hard to put enough thought into right now, but it seemed like hey both thought he’d do a pretty decent job if he ended up being selected. That was a big if, of course, because Grey guessed that almost all of the seventh years that were old enough would give it a shot. That would definitely make his chance extremely slim, possible, but not as easy as one would hope. Plus he still needed a reason to enter. There was the glory of course, for Gryffindor, for himself, or for Hogwarts. “I don’t know if I could do it for you two…maybe if you both attempt to enter I’ll think about it.” Grey joked along following Finn’s quip about possibly tossing his and Rai’s name in. What would even happen if they did that? Obviously there was a way to stop younger students, but what about those that had already graduated? It would be hilarious to watch them attempt it, that was for sure. “In all seriousness, I need to think about it more. But I think I could be convinced to do it for Gryffindor. We deserve a little glory here and there don’t we?” The house was quiet now, so someone had to be there to make some noise and get them all riled up again. Grey might not be the best choice, but he’d be a pretty decent candidate, given the chance. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Old-timers. Rai laughed at that comment, flashing Finn a little grin. She was blessed to have Finn in her life, she knew that. She often wondered why she bothered with Uriah at all. It wasn't like she really needed him. She shook that thought off, though. He needed her, that was what was important. When Finn suggested that they enter their own names too Rai laughed loudly, which didn't draw attention because most of the people in the Hall were used to that loud laugh. She scrunched her nose and shook her head, "as much fun as that would be, Finn, we're supposed to be good examples," as much as Rai had been a jokester in school she really wasn't as crazy as Finn and his other Gryffindor friends were. She'd often tried to be a good example for the other kids... unless you were Grey, then you got the worst of her prank impulses. Rai scrunched her nose as she turned to Grey, "don't encourage him," she said with a laugh. At Grey's next words about doing it for Gryffindor because the house deserved a little more Glory, Rai's lips curved into a half smirk, "well, if it's glory we're looking for then maybe you're not the best choice," she joked, patting his shoulder lightly. She chuckled after a moment and gripped his shoulder instead, "but in all reality, I agree that thinking on it is the best way to start."grey xavier slater@finn

Finn cocked his head to the side, pretending to look confused. “What is this...good example thing you speak of; Grey, do you have any idea what she’s talking about?” he asked with mock bewilderment. He held the position for a moment, then laughed. “We’d probably get thrown out of training and be banned from Hogwarts if we try submitting our names. Though perhaps Headmaster Longbottom would find it fairly amusing,” he said, still grinning. If Fred or James had still been there, they probably would have joined Finn in trying to submit their names; but Fred was busy with the joke shop and James was, well, busy with Rory. Casey would have probably been the level headed one and convinced them not to. That reminded Finn, he wanted to send an owl to Casey to see how his Mediwizard training was going. Making a mental note for later, Finn surveyed the crowds of students talking and eating amongst themselves.
As soon as he saw the chicken legs sitting unattended to on the Hufflepuff table, Finn’s stomach started to grumble. “One moment,” he said, and quickly made his way over to the table and picked up several chicken legs. He paused, then put them into a napkin before hurrying back over to Rai and Grey. “Cheers,” he saluted, before tearing into the chicken. “Mmm so good,” he said, mouth full of savory chicken. He swallowed just before Rai’s burn and chuckled. “Someone left the burner on,” he joked, laughing at himself. He wondered if Grey had thought more about the lunch the two of them had had over the summer holidays; was Rai really just a girl he looked up to, or was there something more?

Home Is Such A Lonely Place without you Grey silently laughed at the fact that Finn and Rai were arguing over whether or not they were good examples. Personally, he would never trust them with a small child, because they were bound to get a little out of hand. The kid might like it, but the parents not so much. Still, he thought he’d humor them a little as well. “That’s a tough one...” Grey said tauntingly. He looked back and forth between his two friends a few times. “If anyone here is a good example, it’d definitely have to be you, Finn. You’ve helped me out with so much in life, I feel like I need to live up to your expectations.” It was so hard not to laugh at this, since he knew Rai would probably blow up or try to put him in a headlock. He couldn’t wait to see both of their reactions to that. Maybe Rai was right though, he had yet to come up with a compelling reason to enter into the tournament. Glory for the house and school was great and all, but that kind of attitude wouldn’t get him that far during the actual challenges. Thinking over it for the next few days would probably help him out in that department. As he was contemplating this, Finn left their little huddle and headed towards one of the house tables to grab some food. Grey thought about the conversation he had had with his friend near the end of summer, and some very interesting things Finn had mentioned during it. Knowing he didn’t have a ton of time before Finn got back with food, he turned to Rai and started to talk as quietly as possible. “So who’s this girl he’s into? I know it’s a Weasley, because he told me it was a redhead. But there’s too many of them with that color to know for sure.” He was hoping Rai would let up, because it had been bugging him the past week not knowing which Weasley it was that Finn was eyeing. As soon as Grey spotted Finn coming back, he made it look like they were just having a casual conversation about the tournament again. “…so who knows how the tournament will go.” Grey finished his half sentence, hoping Finn hadn’t heard what else he had said. “Wow, those actually look edible for once. Looks like the house elves are stepping up their game this year.” He hadn’t really eaten yet, the excitement of learning about the tournament was more than enough to stave it off for a decent amount of time. But man, did those chicken legs look good… MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Rais nose wrinkled and she continued to faux glare at Finn as he went on to pretend that he didn't know what she was talking about. Finally he laughed and she laughed right along with him, nodding as he said they'd probably be kicked out of the program. Then Grey chimed in, and Rai's jaw slowly started to drop as he talked about how great of an example Finn was. She was sure he was just doing this to get a rise out of her and he would get one. She glared, taking a step forward and doing exactly what Grey predicted, attempting to get him in a headlock. If she succeeded, she'd just hold him there and continue on as if nothing had changed. If she didn't succeed, well, she'd make her comment and pummel him in a moment, "I dunno, Finn. The Headmaster might even beat us to it," she joked. As soon as Finn excused himself to snag some good, Grey turned to her in hushed tones and she leaned in to hear. She smiled, nodding her head toward the Ravenclaw table, "in the blue," she said quickly. She felt like that was obscure enough for her to not get in trouble for saying the name out loud. Then Grey faked a conversation about the tournament and Rai nodded, making a mock interested face, but she was still smiling. Almost always. Rai glared at Finn and smirked, reaching out to grab his wrist, "what, none for me?" she pouted, but a laugh soon came after. She turned to Grey, "is Finns chicken here making you jealous? You look like you're drooling," she mused. @finn grey xavier slater

Finn chuckled and gave Rai a chicken leg. “Obviously some of these were for you,” he said, mouth full of chicken. He swallowed and took a swig from a goblet of pumpkin juice. “Now see, this is why I’m the role model and you are not,” he said with a grin, gesturing to Rai’s attempts to put Grey into a headlock. He watched, amused as they scuffled, not in any rush at all to break them apart. They’d realize what he saw one day. Maybe.
“You’ll know which Weasley when the time is right,” Finn told Grey, tapping the side of his nose and winking. Things with Dominique were moving slowly but steadily, and it was only September 1st; there was no rush. He looked around as the students began scraping the benches back as they got up; it must be time for them to head up to their dormitories to get a good nights sleep for classes tomorrow. Finn turned to start to head back to the Gryffindor common room when he remembered he was no longer a student; the Aurors not on night duty were being housed elsewhere in the castle. Heart sinking a little, he turned to Rai and Grey, a sad smile on his face. “Well Grey, looks like you have to head up to the dorm. Rai we should find that senior Auror and find out what the deal is for tonight,” he said. Giving them both a mock bow, he walked away from the two of them, so they could say their goodbyes privately.

Home Is Such A Lonely Place without you The one bonus of knowing Rai and Finn well was that he could tell when they were going to go after him. When Rai stepped towards him, most likely to put him in a headlock like usual, Grey simply stepped out of the way, letting her know that today was not the day he was going down. Especially in the Great Hall, in front of everyone. After Finn walked away and Grey asked Rai about the Weasley girl their friend was seeing, he waited hesitantly. For some reason, he half expected Rai to not give him an answer, since there were some things that she and Finn tended to keep secret from Grey. That was fine of course, since he didn’t need to know every detail of their lives. When Rai said the Weasley girl in the blue, Grey’s eyes quickly flicked over to the Ravenclaw table. He was sure he caught a glimpse of red-hair over there, so it wouldn’t be that hard to figure out who it was. Plus he knew too many of the clan that it would be easier to just ask which one of them was in Ravenclaw. There couldn’t be too many of them. As Finn returned, he mentioned something about knowing which Weasley it was when the time was right. Did he hear them? Or was Grey still staring in that direction when Finn was walking back towards them. It had to be pretty obvious if both him and Rai were looking at a different house’s table and whispering to each other. “Who says I don’t already know which Weasley it is? Can’t be too hard.”He turned to Rai as she asked him if he was drooling over the chicken wings. He wasn’t exactly drooling, more like getting really hungry again. Grey was going to head back towards the Gryffindor table to get one last bite of food, but the plates were already cleared. A little sad, Grey turned back to Finn to see if he could snag one of the last few chicken wings, but it looked like Finn and Rai had eaten all of them. Disappointed, he was about to complain about them not leaving him one but Finn started walking away as the rest of the students stood up to head to their dorms. “I guess I should head up…don’t want to get on the Prefect’s bad side this early. I’m sure I’ll have a few run-ins with them this year,” he let out an awkward laugh. Of course he’d have issues with the Prefects, it always happened. And yet he had still managed this far with only a few detentions and mostly slaps on the wrist. Who in their right mind wouldn’t push their luck over and over again? Finn said his good bye and left during this, so Grey waved goodbye to him. The crowd was starting to thin out in the Great Hall, and he could see the Gryffindors getting further and further away. “Looks like I need to bounce too. I’m sure we’ll run into each other at some point during the year,” Grey said to Rai. “Let me know if you get a free day, or someone to patrol with, if that’s allowed.
