Margaux had only been at Hogwarts a few days, and she was already bored. The castle was dark and ugly compared to the beautiful palace of Beauxbatons, the staircases moved and befuddled her. Margaux did not like feeling befuddled; she liked knowing exactly who and what she was getting herself into. On that particular day, she had eaten breakfast in the hall with some of her fellow Beauxbatons students (the breakfast had been far too heavy for her taste, and no pain du chocolats in sight! How did these students live?), and decided to explore the castle. She had declined bringing anyone with her; she was getting irritated with the crowds and wanted to be alone in her explorations.
Yet again, a staircase Margaux was on shuddered and moved, making her let out a stream of curses in French under her breath. How could one ever get use to this sort of torture? With a huff, she stepped onto the landing and down a hallway. She tried the door at the end of the corridor, and to her amusement it was locked. Whipping out her wand she whispered 'Alohomora" and the lock clicked open. Pushing the door open, she saw a long hallway, not a classroom like she expected. It was covered in cobwebs and layers of dust. Sparking her curiosity, she began to walk into the hall when she heard footsteps coming up quick behind her. She stilled, not making a noise or movement, but turned around slowly to see who the intruder was.

It looks like Maria wasn't the only bored one around here. Maria spotted the Beauxbaton girl that first night. They'd sat at the same table, though not near each other. Over the next few days, Maria spotted her a few more times. It wasn't until today though that Maria had an opportunity to go to talk to the other girl. Why she felt the need to... Well, call her curious. Insatiably curious.
Maria had been just entering the Castle when she spotted the French girl heading up the stairs with an on determination in her steps. That or she was mad. Either way, it caught Maria's attention. Rather then go join her cousin in the Great hall for breakfast, she chose to follow. It wasn't hard, the string of French curses was a dead give away, and soon Maria spotted the girl pulling out her wand and unlocking a door. Both eyebrows raised. Well, that was interesting. One, why was the door locked, and two, why was the French girl going in? Slipping through the newly unlocked door, Maria offered a charming smile as the other girl heard her, and turned to face her. "You know, doors are usually locked for a reason."

Margaux lowered her wand cautiously and took note of the necomers robes; blood red, so not a Hogwarts student. She wouldn't be in here to tell her off like a brown-nosed prefect she'd seen yelling at a few first years for running in the great hall. "Why, zey are zere to be unlocked, of course!" she said, returning the smile with a tinkle of a laugh. "Eef zey really did not want ze students to entair into ze 'all, zey would 'ave put up a sign," she added, her French lilt accenting her English. She doubted the other girl would care either way; English was not the first language of many Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students, but they spoke it out of what some would call 'common courtesty'.
"Well, shall we explore whatever eet eez zat zey wanted to 'ide from ze students?" Margaux asked her, raising an eyebrow as she lit her wand tip. Without waiting for a response, Margaux began to walk down the hallway, coughing lightly as the dust stirred up and settled into her nostrils. "Bah, nobody 'as clearly been down zis way for years," she noted, wrinkling her nose in disgust.

Maria slowly grinned as the french girl responded, saying that they were meant to be unlocked. "I like your way of thinking." Was her own response. Maria herself wasn't a notorious rule breaker (if you didn't include all fighting related rules...), but that didn't mean she wasn't opposed to it if she thought it'd be fun. "Or used a lock that couldn't so easily be broken." she continued, still grinning. There were spells and such that could prevent the unlocking charm. That hadn't been used in this case. It was practically an invitation to enter. Who was she to say no?
"If you don't mind the company." Maria accepted the invitation to accompany quickly, and fell in step beside the girl without any hesitation. "So, am I going to get your name? Or do you want me to come up with one?" Maria asked, teasing just a little. "I'm Maria. Maria Da Silva Povoa." A mouthful. And technically it wasn't even her real name. Da Silva Povoa had been the 'fake' name her parents had gone by in Brazil, when she was born. But Maria refused to change it to her father and grandparent's surname. Her tanned skin. Dark hair and eyes. She could easily pass for Brazilian, if she chose. But Eurpeans were usually able to guess what she was. Romani. Gypsy. Something most Europeans didn't like too much. "I know a faster way." She said as the girl raised her lit wand. There were torches down the hall.... Maria could easily light them. Should she? She was trying not to use her power at Hogwarts.... But why would this french girl tell? People would need a spell, and usually a wand to do what Maria could do with just a thought.
Her hands felt hot. Just thinking about using her power was enough for heat to start to gather. She took that as her queue, and that heat ignited into flames in her hands. She almost casually tossed the flames from her hands to the torches. Hitting a stationary target was pretty easy. Soon the entire corridor was lit by raging fires in each torch. Maria looked at the other girl and shrugged.

Margaux smiled; there was something about this girl that made her think she could be on her level. She didn’t dare be hopeful though, as not many people could handle her. It wasn’t really her fault that people either saw her as a demon witch or a deity to be worshipped; while she appreciated the latter, the attention did bore her sometimes. She had a hunch though that this girl wouldn’t think either. “Zat eez a wonderful name; rolls right off the tongue,” she said with a laugh. She knew the name sounded very…un-European, but Margaux didn’t really care what her heritage was. What was the point? Perhaps that was her one redeeming quality; she didn’t judge someone on their heritage or skin color, but on their level of annoyance. “I am Margaux Delphine Schuyler, but Margaux eez perfectly fine,” she added, giving her a wink and a flip of the hair.
She raised a brow as Maria suggested a quicker way to light the torches, and with a small incline of her head she gestured for the girl to show her. Her eyes widened as flames conjured from Maria’s fingertips lit the torches; her wand seemed to be stowed safely elsewhere, so the girl was doing this on her own. “Quelle surprise, mais c’est magnifique!” she breathed, showing her appreciation. Margaux usually did not let much emotion show, but this wasn’t just any old magic trick. “Can you show me ‘ow you do it again?” she asked interestedly.

Maria's grin softened just a little at the compliment. She was quite proud of the name, despite it being a mouthful. As the other girl finally gave her own name, that smile grew once more. "Margaux. Fitting." Maria noticed the wink and hair flip. It wasn't hard to tell that Margaux was a confident girl, and fully aware that she was extremely attractive. Two traits that Maria personally liked. IT made people interesting and unpredictable.... And in the end easier to break. For some reason Maria knew Margaux wouldn't break so easily.
The outburst of french and actual display of emotion was enough to make Maria grin wickedly after she finished setting the torches a blaze. Maria didn't speak French, not well at least. But she understood it. She understood a lot of languages. She'd been forced to learn four before she was ten years old. "Oh please, that's just a parlor trick. Practically nothing." Maria responded confidently. None the less she held out her hand, palm upward. A second later flames burst from her exposed flame, dancing about her fingers like a lethal but enchanting dance. Maria's lips hadn't moved, nor was she even looking at her hand when it caught on fire. Her gaze had stayed quite intensely focused on Margaux. There was no wand in her other hand. And the fact that she hadn't spoken meant it could only be a non verbal cast. And yet, she hadn't even looked. Non verbal magic typically at least took eye contact. It was obvious.
Maria wasn't using a spell.
"Unfortunately, I won't be able to show you how it's done." You couldn't exactly teach people to create fire with just their thoughts. Only a few magical creatures and beings were able to do that. And the only one that could cross with humans were Veela.

Margaux watched interestedly as Maria performed with fire. The flames burst forward from her fingertips; watching her work was like watching a dance of oranges, yellows and reds. Margaux could feel the heat coming from the flames but she reveled in it. “C’est la vie. I can always just ask you eef I need a little...warmth in my day,” she said, shrugging nonchalantly when Maria informed her she couldn’t teach her how to procure fire from the tips of her fingers. She had heard of this power only once before, and it was in a book. This was rarer than rare; even she could not deny her admiration for it. “Well I suppose I ‘ave met ze right person today, non?” she added, flashing another smile. She couldn’t help herself; when she was around attractive people her veela charm just came out, and Maria definitely had quite a quality about her.
Gesturing forward, Margaux took a few steps towards the other end of the hallway. “What do you think we will find?” she asked, hoping it was something powerful. Her cousin Desirae had spoken about Hogwarts and how many of the Headmasters had tried to hide away everything that dealt with Dark Magic or anything remotely interesting, but they never destroyed it entirely. They came to a door that was sealed shut. “Alohomora,” Margaux tried, but the door did not budge. This did not deter the French girl; she pulled out a knife from her pocket. “My cousin sent zis to me; eet can open any lock,” she said with confidence. She slid the knife in the doorway and pulled it down. The door opened with a click and Margaux gave a triumphant hah. “Shall we?” she asked wickedly, pulling the door open wide.

Oh, Maria couldn't let this French girl get away with an opening like that. She just.... she had to say something. Donning a charming smile she twirled a lock of her curly hair between her fingers. "I know plenty of ways to keep someone warm." She spoke slowly, deliberately, letting Margaux hear the intent behind it. Maria didn't care about gender much. If they moved, and they were attractive, they were targets. She hadn't been able to get to know any of the Beauxbaton or Hogwarts students yet, but... Well, she'd like to get to know Margaux. She could also tell that, like herself, Margaux had to have Veela blood. There was an unnatural charm to her. While it didn't affect Maria, she it was hard to miss. That and Maria did the exact same thing. "Are you trying to charm me?" She asked teasingly, though quite serious at the same time. She didn't look upset though, quite the opposite. Maria looked amused.
Falling into step beside Margaux, her gaze wandered, taking in the high ceilings and dark passages of this deserted corridor. It looked like it hadn't been used in years. "Better question. Why was it locked?" she answered Margaux's question with her own. This corridor was in a prime location. Why wasn't it in use? There were empty classrooms everywhere, but an entire passageway? Why? The next door they came across wouldn't budge. Maria raised an eyebrow at the French girl drew a knife, and unlocked the door. "Enchanted?" She asked before she was offered the explanation. Of course it was enchanted. Only a powerful enchantment could open a lock that was spell proof.
@margaux (No idea what you're wanting to be in the room. XD)

Margaux threw her head back at Marias’ teasing and laughed. “I know better zan to try and charm a fellow part-veela,” she said sweetly, acknowledging both hers and Marias special lineage. “'Owever, when someone quite attractive is in my presence, sometimes, I cannot ‘elp it,” she added, smiling wickedly. She was being bold, she knew, but Maria seemed like the type of girl who could be on her level, unlike so many of her conquests at Beauxbatons. Emile was perhaps the only one who could give this girl a run for her money, but she doubted he would come close if she began to see more of her.
Margaux turned and gave Maria a small smirk before opening the now unlocked door. She coughed slightly as dust billowed up from the floor of the small room. Wrinkling her nose, she lit her wand and held it high. “What could zey have used zis place for?” she mused aloud, taking dainty steps as she searched for anything that might be either highly dangerous or illegal. She kicked something with her foot and squinted to see what it was. “Eugh!” she cried, backing away several steps. She had kicked the remains of a fanged tooth, one that was far too large for a normal animal to have in its mouth. “Zey must have hidden a beast of some sort ‘ere, but what was it?” she said quietly, looking over at Maria. She hadn’t known what to expect, but she was a bit glad the skeletal remains of the rest of that thing were not in there as well.

Maria slowly grinned wickedly. "Part?" She repeated, an eyebrow raising. "I'm half." In her mind, there was a difference. Part made it sound.... far less then she was. That could be why she'd inherited the fire. The Veela blood was much stronger in her veins then others. That, and she'd just gotten lucky. "Just attractive? Or attractive to you?" She asked, tilting her head. "Because if it's me... Feel free to 'cannot ‘elp it' more." She added softly, her voice barely above a whisper. Highly successive, and strongly encouraging Margaux to continue. As she repeated Margaux's words though, she faked the french accent with surprising ease. Languages came easy to her. So faking accents? Child's play.
As they proceeded into the room, Maria wrinkled her nose as the overpowering scent of dust hit her. How long had it been since someone was in here? All that was in the dark chamber though... was a giant fang. Animal, probably. "Disgusting." Maria muttered. "Whatever it was, it's not here anymore." Something with a tooth that large? It had to be massive. Some sort of giant magical creature, because there was no way an animal could get to be that large without magical aid.
Then, a noise from behind. Back the way they came. "We should leave..." Before they were caught. As much as she didn't care about breaking rules, she'd prefer to wait just a few more weeks before getting into too much trouble. And she'd like to get to know Margaux just a little better too..
@maria (Just gunna end it now XD hahaha, we need to get these two farther thread wise.)
