Maria was exactly in the best mood today.
No surprise. Her emotions tended to be extreme and intense, just like the fire she could create with just a thought. Thankfully she'd yet to start a fire at Hogwarts.. Yet being the keyword. One of the other Durmstrang students had made a jab at Elias, and she'd been right there to over hear it. If it hadn't been for Elias' quick reaction she might have set the kid on fire, but the whole encounter had happened in the Great hall. And Maria had made a promise to herself, and Elias that she'd try not to use her special gift.... It wasn't normal, she knew that. Part Veela, even half Veela like herself rarely inherited the ability to create fire like their full Veela relatives. It was so incredibly rare, it was practically unheard of. And yet here was Maria, the one that had somehow inherited it. Most of the Durmstrang students knew about the power. She'd set to many fires for them not to know. But Hogwarts and Beauxbaton? Well, if she could avoid them finding out about it, that'd be great.
So now, she and Elias were out by the pond. She was kneeling right at the edge, both hands plunged into the water, in case they tried to ignite. "You should have let me at least hit him." she muttered, look up at her cousin as she pulled her hands out of the water. She wasn't calm, but at least she wasn't fuming. Wiping her hands on her red robes, she rolled back to her feet and crossed over to where her cousin was sitting and plopped down next to him on the grass. That was when she spotted movement, out of the corner of her eye. Immediately she turned her head to glare at the person approaching. A blonde Hogwarts student.

Jamie still couldn't get over meeting her half-brother randomly in Diagon Alley. Elias had been an accident – well, hadn’t they all? – and the meeting hadn’t exactly ended on the best note. At least Elias had said they could talk to each other at school, and now school was here, and she…could talk to him. Jamie didn’t want to go alone, though, because the girl that was always hanging around with Elias was a little intimidating, and Jamie was…not. She hated to say it, but Max was a lot more intimidating than she was, and her little sister was more than willing to do something because Jamie wanted to do it. That was the beautiful part of having a little sister who was a Slytherin.
The Hufflepuff smiled as she walked across the grounds towards the newest addition to her family. “Hey Elias!” She greeted enthusiastically as she bopped towards him. “Who’s your friend?” Jamie asked, gesturing towards the intimidating girl next to him, hoping that Max was still behind her to back her up. She gestured behind her, towards her sister. “This is Maxima, my half-sister.” She was better off not saying 'our' half-sister for now, until after the scary friend was out of the picture.

Maxima wouldn't have readily admitted it, but she liked being able to spend time with Jamie again. Especially since her friendship with Georgiana appeared to be on the rocks, she was glad to have Jamie around. If she couldn't have both of her favorite blonde Hufflepuffs, at least she could have the one who was related to her.
Following just behind Jamie as they made their way outside, Max was surprised to hear her half-sister address one of the two Durmstrang students who were sitting in the grass by the pond. For whatever reason, the Durmstrang students never seemed to be far from water, she thought; they had come to Hogwarts on a ship moored in the Black Lake, too. She wasn't sure how Jamie knew the boy from Durmstrang, but, knowing Jamie, she probably had friends from both of the foreign schools already. Jamie could make friends in an instant.
The boy, called Elias, didn't look terrible. The girl in his company, however? She looked intimidating, more so than even the worst of the Slytherin girls with whom Max had to contend on a daily basis. All of the Durmstrang students had a frightening look to them, but something about this particular girl didn't sit well with her. She looked absolutely malicious, and Max wasn't sure if they should get too close.
Taking a step to Jamie's side, Max avoided acknowledging the Durmstrang students when she was introduced, watching how the girl looked at Jamie like she was some kind of vermin. She reached for her wand and held it against the side of her leg, just in case.

Goodness, Maria was at it again. A student from Durmstrang had done the usual with Elias and began to make fun of him. Elias being who he was completely ignored it, however with Maria there, nothing was going to be ignored. He had to stop her from setting the boy on fire for goodness sake! It was the norm for them by now, but it still gave Eli a bit of a scare whenever she had episodes like that.
And now, as they were sitting near the Blake Lake, he watched her drown her hands in the water. He sat back on his hands and crossed his legs as he smiled at Maria's back. She was definitely something else, but he loved her all the same. It was nice to have someone who actually liked him, and who protected him for once, other than his mother. When she came over and plopped down next to him, Elias laughed. "Well, Maria, you may as well get used to it now, because I most likely won't ever let you hit anyone."
And then she whipped her head around and glared. Oh no, he thought. Slowly turning his head, he wasn't so shocked to see Jamie. And whoever was with her, he would take a single guess that she was another one of his sister's. Her facial features proved just that; they all looked weirdly alike for only being half-siblings. But what was worse, was that he hadn't told Maria about them yet. He had been planning to today, and now with the two of them walking towards him, he felt like his heart was going to jump right out of his chest.
"Hi, Jamie...this is my cousin, Maria." He gestured to Maria and smiled at her, giving her a look in his eyes that told her to stay calm. Goodness gracious she needed to stay calm. Elias then turned to Maxima. "It's nice to meet you Maxima." He smiled slightly, holding his hand out for a shake.

Maria grinned mischievously at her cousin as he laughed and said he wouldn't let her hit anyone. "It's a good thing I don't listen to everything you say then. And it helps that you're too gentle to always stop me." Okay, that was true, that being gentle wasn't a bad thing. In fact, that was what usually stopped her. He made it hard to stay angry.
It wasn't just one Hogwarts student, but in fact two. Maria's eyes stayed narrowed. Who were they, and why were they heading this way? There was a determination in their steps, and it was obvious that they were in fact heading directly for Elias and Maria. Maria, who was already on the defensive side, bristled. The girl just wasn't trusting when it came to these situations. Six years at Durmstrang and taught her not to trust people around her and Elias until they'd proven themselves. Could you blame her though? To her surprise though, Elias knew the girl. The blonde at least. Her expression relaxed, registering her surprise as she tore her gaze away from the girl and to her cousin, who was giving her that look. The one that told her to behave. Maria just raised an eyebrow. It was almost as if she was silently responding that she'd behave as long as they did. She didn't say anything as her cousin introduced her, just looked back at the girls, and eyeing them up and down. Neither of them looked that impressive to her, to be honest. Except for one detail....
Maria slowly smirked, her gaze now focused intently on the younger of the Hogwarts girls. "Elias. The little one doesn't trust us." She noted cheerfully, switching to Bulgarian so her cousin would be the only one that understood her. "You should put that away before you get hurt, princess." She switched back to English, still smirking as she nodded to the wand against the girl's leg.

If Maxima had had hackles to raise, raised they would have been. She first nodded in acknowledgement of Elias, before she reluctantly switched the hand in which she was holding her wand to accept his handshake. Aside from his height, he didn't seem to be much of a threat, but the same couldn't be said of the girl, Maria, whom Elias had introduced as his cousin. Somehow, Max got the notion that the two weren't exactly the Weasleys.
Maria, for one, didn't look so thrilled by her, raising an eyebrow. The feeling was mutual, thought Max, who kept herself from rolling her eyes at the older girl's smirk. She said something to Elias in another language that Max couldn't place, and she had to wonder if it was about her and Jamie. Whatever Maria had said, Maxima knew that it was she who was being addressed when the Durmstrang girl switched back to speaking in English. “You should put that away before you get hurt, princess,” she instructed her, condescension dripping from her voice.
Max certainly wasn't a princess, nor was she about to behave like one after being spoken to as though she were a first-year. She moved her wand back to her dominant hand, raising it slightly as a warning signal and stepping in front of Jamie. “Don't you dare.”

It turned out that Jamie had reason to be suspicious of the girl who was hanging around Elias - his cousin Maria, by his introduction. Max was getting the same vibes off of her, and while Jamie didn't agree with her younger sister's decision to draw her wand immediately, she definitely disagreed with Maria's decision to threaten to hurt her little sister. No one threatened Maxima Greyback when Jamie was around - nobody. Max tried to step in front of Jamie, but the Hufflepuff was having none of it. She glanced at Elias, but then turned her gaze back to Maria. If her brother couldn't understand why she was doing this, then maybe they'd be better off not being in each other's lives. "You want to take that back, Maria?" Jamie said, stepping around Max so she was closer to the Durmstang girl. "I don't know whether or not Elias has told you this, but I protect the people I love, and I'm not afraid to bite." She had done it for Harper and she was more than willing to do it for Max. Being a werewolf wasn't something that Jamie was proud of by any stretch of the imagination, but she would go to any limit to hurt someone who was threatening her little sister.

Elias couldn't believe what was already happening in the two seconds it took the girls to walk down to them to now. His eyes were going back and forth between the three women that were surrounding him. Their words and actions replaying in his mind, he rubbed his eyes. Elias took a deep breath and turned to Maria. "Maria. Stop. Now. These two girls have become important to me... Why I will tell you later. However for now, apologize. You three need to get along." He spoke to her in Bulgarian, hoping she'd understand how serious he was. This was not how this was all supposed to go and if she couldn't respect his wishes, then they'd have a big problem.
"Jamie, Maxima, I'd like to apologize on behalf of my cousin," he gave her another look, "She's very protective."

Maria's eyebrow raised at the reaction she got out of the girls. Not out of shock though. Just mild surprise and slight amusement. Aw, the little one was so tough. It reminded Maria of a rabbit. A rabid rabbit. Trying to be tough, but oh so tiny. Not only that, they both thought Maria was threatening them. Adorable. She wasn't. If she'd been threatening, she wouldn't still be laying there so carefree on the grass. Maria would have been more then happy to let it drop with the young one's reaction... Until the blonde stepped in. Asking.... Well, to Maria it sounded more like demanding, that she talk back her words and then proceeded to actually threaten Maria.
The girl's eyes flashed, and she sat up slowly until she was sitting up straight. She made no move for her wand though. She knew she didn't need it. Before the girl could do anything further, she heard her cousin speak and looked at him out of the corner of her eye. He sounded just as demanding, though at least he, she respected. "They're the ones coming over with wands already drawn." She hissed back. Call her paranoid, but she didn't like people she didn't know approaching with their wands already out. As if they were looking for a fight. None the less, she would listen to him. Like always. She didn't look at them, her gaze still on her cousin as she forced the next words out. "Forgive me for my rudeness." Only after her forced apology did her gaze flicker back to them. He might have told her to apologize, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to make another jab at them. "I didn't realize that it was considered polite at Hogwarts to approach a complete stranger, who's done nothing to offend you initially, with your wand drawn." That scowl turned into a small, but smug smirk. "Thank you for making that clearer. I'll be sure to act according to your schools customs next time."

Jamie looked at Elias, and then back at Maria. She really didn’t want it to be this way, but it had to be. She wanted to know her half-brother, but if giving up the opportunity to know him meant keeping Max safe, Jamie was going to choose Max. Every time, she was going to choose Max. Jamie smiled at Maria when she made her obviously passive-aggressive comment. “I didn’t realize it was considered polite at Durmstang to stand around glaring at people.” She returned her gaze to her half-brother once again, but then forced herself to look away. For all intents and purposes, Maria was his family far more than she was. She wasn’t going to make him take a side in this. “And I also didn’t realize it was considered polite anywhere to threaten to hurt someone just because they happen to have their wand in their hand.” Jamie blinked once, and then shrugged. “Thank you for making that clear. I’ll be sure to respond in kind whenever I see you with your wand out.”
Her piece said to Maria, Jamie felt slightly less bad about looking at her half-brother. “Elias, I understand being overprotective, but that doesn’t mean it’s right for a seventeen year old to threaten a fifteen year old just because the latter happens to have her wand out.” Jamie sighed a little. He was going to hate her for saying this, but she didn’t really care. “And if you think you’ve seen overprotective, you have never seen anyone who tries to hurt my baby sister.” Elias had to understand that the Greybacks weren’t just family for show; they supported each other like a real family did. They wiped each other’s tears and shared each other’s smiles and, most of all, fought each other’s fights. There was no way you could tangle with one Greyback and not get the entire pack.
