She hadn't meant to overhear it. What was usually Lucy's excuse when it came to gossip had been true this time; she had just stumbled upon it. Gossip about two of her roommates—with neither of whom she was on particularly good terms—was just too difficult to ignore. And so she hadn't, happily discovering that the Flint twins were illegitimate children. It wasn't her fault, after all, that the door to the school counselor's office had been left ajar.
Really, getting something so major before classes had even begun was a rarity, which made it all the more exciting for Lucy. The other girls would eat it up, she was sure, so she had chosen to save it until all were present. The opportunity hadn't arisen, unfortunately, at dinner that night, and Lucy was beginning to lose hope that it might soon become irrelevant.
Perhaps it wasn't the brightest decision that she had ever made, but, that night, Lucy chose to take matters into her own hands. The dormitory that she shared with the other Slytherin girls in her year had never been a peaceful place, nor would it ever be. The Flint twins would always be outnumbered; she, Ondina, and Viovinnia had ensured that.
Seeing Dusti across the room after the both of them had changed into their pajamas, she couldn't help the smirk on her face. “So, Dusti…” Lucy smiled, swinging her feet off of her bed. “What's it like to be a b****rd?”

Dusti knew there was going to be problems this year. There'd always been.... tension in their dorm, ever since first year. It was just a volatile combination of girls. Thankfully nothing that bad had happened. Mostly bad arguments and a few objects being thrown around. Other Slytherin girl's had usually broken up any fights before they went much farther. But Dusti knew, just knew that this year would be much, much worse. Dusti was suddenly out numbered. She hadn't been before. It'd been Lucy and Ondina, against Dusti and Rusti. Well, Rusti wasn't much help, but she was on Dusti's side. So things had been pretty even. Now that Vi was in the picture? Well... like previously stated. There were gong to be problems.
Big problems.
She didn't expect them to start so soon though. It was Sunday night, hours after Dusti had found that... That she and Rusti were illegitimate. That their mother had been just as unfaithful as she was an alcoholic. Go figure, her mother was even more messed up then Dusti had thought. Dusti wasn't taking the news well. Nor the fact that her real father was Ernie MacMillan. The counselor's ex husband. Father of a set of boys a year below her. It was a lot to take in, and Dusti really didn't like these kinds of surprises. So, she wasn't in the best mood. She'd actually been extremely on edge, and very short tempered. She'd snapped at everyone that had crossed her path since the news, even Albus. She hadn't told him what was up, but he knew something was wrong. She'd tell him when she was ready. He'd be the first person she told. But it seemed someone found out.
Someone that made her skin crawl with resent.
Dusti had just pulled on a simple black tank top on and was about to sit down on her bed when she heard her name from that annoying voice. She immediately scowled. That scowl worsened when she continued to speak and Dusti turned to face the red hair. "What did you say?" She hissed back. She knew what Lucy meant. But how did she find out?

@lucy @dusti Rusti was sitting on her bed, writing in her notebook, trying to get her thoughts out on paper. She could process them better that way. And she had a lot to process. Marcus Flint wasn't her father. Ernie Macmillan was. Part of her felt terrified that if Marcus found out he would take it out on her and her sister. But another part... and larger part, felt triumphant. Marcus Flint was not her father. He had no hold on her. She felt strangely euphoric. As if a huge weight had been lifted off of her shoulders. Marcus Flint is not my father. she had written in her notebook. She wrote down synonyms for the word father, he only fit one "provider". She was about to write about this new emotion when she heard someone start talking to Dusti. Rosaria looked up from her spot on her bed and her face paled as she heard what Lucy was saying. How did she know? They hadn't told anyone, not even River yet. Dusti responded with venom in her voice and Rusti knew that with all of the tension that had been building up since that morning, Dusti was going to explode. She didn't want that to happen, she didn't want her sister in trouble, nor did she want this conversation to continue. She wanted to do something. But she didn't know what to do. Redirect. She moved over to Dusti's bed and put her hand on her sister's, hoping she could calm her, though the chance was slim. Perhaps if she could redirect Lucy's attention... "Lucy," she said, pausing a moment before continuing. "Would you check that the fireplace has wood? We may need to ask for more." There was no way that was going to distract her.... But she tried.

The Flint twins were close in the way that everyone expected her and Anna to be, which was probably part of the reason why Lucy really couldn't stand them. Rusti was passive and really wasn't a problem on her own, but she had clearly ruffled Dusti's feathers, which was just as she had intended.
Before Lucy could clarify her comment and get under Dusti's skin even more than she already had, Rusti chimed in to ask if she could check that their fireplace had wood.
“Do I look like an elf?” she asked Rusti, adding, “Ondina can do it once she's in. Or Viovinnia, wherever she went.” She gave a shrug and scooted a bit farther away from the edge of the bed to show that she wasn't about to get up. Why couldn't Rusti do it herself, if she was so concerned?
“As I was saying,” Lucy continued happily, “what's it like to be illegitimate?” She grinned and feigned innocence. “I wouldn't know.”

There was Rusti, trying to play mediator. To be the better twin and keep Dusti calm, and grounded. For a moment, it almost worked. She looked at her twin, gaze softening just a bit. But then Lucy just had to go and snap at Rusti. The anger was instantly back with a vengence, and she slipped her hand away from Rusti's, taking a step out to the edge of her own bed, as if daring Lucy to come over to their side of the room. "No one would ever mistake you for an elf, Lucy. Troll though? The resemblance is uncanny." She hissed.
And then she just had to sound so happy. That she'd somehow found out about something that only Dusti and Rusti had found out that day. How the bloody hell? Dusti took another step out, into the middle of the room. "You don't know what you're bloody talking about. I don't know what you heard, but keep that lying, manipulative mouth shut, or I'll make you." Dusti wasn't messing around or beating around the bush today. She didn't have the patience to. Lucy and the others had been testing her patience for years. Well guess what? She was done playing along.

@lucy @dusti Rosaria shrank back, just a little when Dusti got up,her voice rising higher. For a moment Rusti's plan had almost worked, she could see it in her sister's eyes. But then Lucy had to open her mouth again. And what she said? Well attacking Rusti was a sure fire way to set Dusti off, not to mention both of the sister's emotions were running a little raw today. When Dusti's emotions were close to the surface... they exploded. Rusti didn't want this to escalate any quicker than it already had and so she scooted off of her bed and walked up to Dusti, taking her hand again. "Leave it alone, Lucy." she said softly trying to get Dusti back to the other side of the room.

The three of them—or really just Lucy and Dusti—were hurling insults back and forth at one another. She would let Dusti have the satisfaction of being able to get away with the “troll” insult. It was the least she could do, she thought.
Dusti was actually taking the bait, and it was almost as though Rusti wasn't even in the room with them. She wasn't a challenge; Lucy had never once seen her come to her own defense. If she had really cared to do it, Lucy was sure that it wouldn't have been very difficult to make Rusti burst into tears right then and there.
She didn't need to drag the other girl into the battle that was clearly beginning between her and Dusti. “You don't know what you're bloody talking about,” Dusti tried to convince her, and Lucy laughed. “I don't know what you heard, but keep that lying, manipulative mouth shut, or I'll make you.”
“Oooh,” Lucy mocked. “You'll make me, will you?” she asked, pretending that she needed clarification. She had heard Rusti say something to her about leaving the matter alone, but it was too late for that.
Sliding down onto the floor from her bed, Lucy gave an exaggerated yawn and stood. “Go on, then. Or are you just as scared as your sister?”

Dusti wished she could listen to her voice of reason, her better half. Rusti. She wished she could just ignore Lucy. But she couldn't. Her emotions were already explosive in general, but right now? Right now she just wanted to hurt someone. She wanted to let out all this anger and frustration. She wanted to make something, or someone, pay for all the wrongs and lies in her life. And unfortunately Lucy was a very tempting target. Just hearing that annoyingly shrill voice of hers made her skin crawl. At this point, there was probably only one person that could get Dusti to calm down and unfortunately he couldn't get into the girl's dormitory.
The blonde snarled as Lucy laughed and mocked her threat. She didn't think that Dusti wouldn't hesitate to make her? That Dusti would just back down and stop putting up a fight? Well, news flash, Dusti's whole life was a fight and she was a survivor. She did what she had to, no matter what. Finally Lucy was standing... and yawning, which only made Dusti even more angry. There was the briefest of moments that Dusti didn't want to hit Lucy, because Dusti hated hitting people. It made her feel like she was sinking to her parents' level. That she was just as bad as them. But the second thought lasted less then a second, because she didn't actually care. Because Lucy had made the mistake of mentioning Rusti again. Dusti gritted her teeth together and her hand balled into a fist. Without considering any of the consequences her hand snapped out, aiming to hit Lucy right in the eye.

@jill @lucy @dusti Rosaria shut her eyes in defeat when Lucy brought her into the argument. There was no way Dusti was going to back down now. She never did, and Rusti loved her sister for that. She opened her mouth to say something, but didn't know what. She had a hard time getting enough courage to stand up for herself. Even with her slowly changing mindset, she wasn't about to put herself in harms way. That wasn't something she had the courage to do, and she was ashamed of it. When Dusti's hand lashed out Rusti heard herself gasp, her hands flying to her mouth. This was escalating too quickly. She wasn't worried for Dusti, her sister could take care of herself. She was worried about the consequences. And there would be consequences. Sounds good to me

As she watched Dusti grow more and more angry with her, Lucy relished in knowing that she had singlehandedly caused that anger. Then, Dusti's fist made contact with her eye before she had gotten the opportunity to stop her.
“S**t!”
Putting her hand up to find where she had just been punched in the face, Lucy decided to ignore the pain. She had been jarred by Dusti's reaction, but she wasn't going to take being punched, either. No, she needed to hit back at Dusti however she could. Her eye would probably be black and blue before long, and she wasn't looking forward to explaining that one to the other girls. As long as Dusti had an injury to match, though, all would be fine.
Without a second thought, Lucy acted, immediately reaching towards Dusti's shoulders to push her down. It was more likely that she would wind up shoving her right into the next bed over, given the close quarters of their dormitory, but that was good enough. As long as the end result hurt, frankly, Lucy didn't care.

@dusti , @rosaria , @lucy <3 What was it with this time of year? It was the Holidays! The students were supposed to be happy and genuine and nice to one another. Unfortunately, Astoria felt as if lately her Slytherin students were consistently acting out, and she was not sure why it was so. They knew she didn't enjoy such petty arguments, and for her to be taken away from her work to go to the Common Room to deal with three bunk mates, it put her in quite the sour mood.
Astoria thanked one of her other Slytherins, who had mentioned the yelling and banging. She quickly made her way through the doors and into the girls' dormitory, right into the room where the Flint sisters and Lucy Weasley resided. With a flick of her wand, the door swung open and Astoria marched in. "Enough." Her usually chirpy, gentle tone was stern and angry. This was the end of this. She was done dealing with such childish nature. Her eyes scanned all three of them, saw Lucy's eye, and then saw that Dusti had been pushed to the ground. Rosaria, as Astoria had noticed, was sitting, hands to her mouth. "Rosaria, what happened?"

Lucy knew that she could have handled the Flint twins on her own. One little injury wasn't enough to stop her, and, if Dusti thought that she was about to raise a white flag so soon, she was mistaken. Clearly, someone—and thankfully it hadn't been Rusti—had tipped off Professor Malfoy. “Enough,” she ordered, and Lucy froze.
Their Head of House looked to Rusti, who had witnessed the whole thing. She would take her sister's side, even though Dusti had thrown the first punch. Knowing that without a doubt, Lucy knew that she needed to defend herself while she had the chance.
Cutting in before Rusti could speak, Lucy began innocently, rubbing at her eye. “Dusti punched me in the eye, Professor. I was only acting in self-defense.” She gave Dusti a quick look that hinted at a smirk. She would have a fun time explaining what had led her to snap.

Dusti hadn't been thinking. She was practically seeing red, and in that moment all she'd cared about causing the most amount of damage as possible. Of course Lucy didn't just take the hit in silence though, she had to retaliate and shove Dusti into the bed next to them. There was a small, sharp pain from where Dusti's back hit the bed post, but Dusti ignored it. Scowling she pulled herself to her feet, ready to lash out again when she heard the familiar and commanding voice of Professor Malfoy.
Dusti didn't move, didn't dare to once a teacher showed up. She just glared daggers at Lucy. Rusti, being the only observer, was obviously called on to explain what was happening but Lucy was quick to jump in and play the victim. "Self defense! Like hell! You psychotic-" Dusti forced herself to shut up before she finished that sentence. Her teeth gritted tightly together and looking as if she might throw another punch at any second she forced herself to take a few steps away from Lucy, but never looked away. If anything Dusti looked like a lion waiting to pounce. Just waiting for an opportunity to strike again.
