Edmund gave a small laugh too, "Glad I'm not the only one," he admitted. He hadn't really thought about it before, but it was nice to know someone else that didn't really get along with an older sibling. He didn't have to explain why or anything, Grey just seemed to understand, which was cool. Growing up, Edmund always felt like the odd one out since he was the only one that really didn't get along with the others. At least here at Hogwarts he didn't have to feel that way. He found himself nodding as Grey explained about the newspaper. It all made sense. Edmund had never really been interested in the paper, or really writing in general, but he could believe that it was a consistent type of work. Maybe he should start reading it, now that he knew a lot of time and effort went into it. Not that he didn't think that before, he'd just never really thought about it before. "I can believe that," he said lamely. He wished he could think of a different question or comment, but he really didn't know enough about the paper to have anything to say about it. When Grey turned a little and started directing his words to Addi, Edmund watched with interest. He always liked to watch how people interacted with one another and these two were no different. He was glad that they were growing closer. Being Addi's friend for such a long time, he knew how much her family meant to her and he knew how badly she wanted to be close to them. He listened as Grey seemed to vent about being pushed with his grades and could relate. He was always being told that he needed to be better in school. Well, it was hard to do better than his older siblings. Peter was always viewed as perfect in everything he did and Susan was very smart, thus her being in Ravenclaw. Edmund decided a long time ago to not listen to people who tried to push him to do better. He was doing what he could. Then Grey apologized and Edmund shrugged, "Don't worry about it. I can understand a lot of that." He didn't want to say he knew exactly what Grey went through, because he didn't, but he also wasn't judging him for what he said. @jill2 grey xavier slater

Addilyn really did hope that Edmund and Grey would become closer after this meeting. It wasn't every day that Addi had to share her brother and her best friend with someone else. However she hoped it would be much easier because they were both hanging out together. And like the two of them had said themselves, they both knew what it was like to sort of be an outsider in their own families. Fortunately for Addilyn, she was trying to fix that for the both of them.
Addi rose an eyebrow at her brother. "Don't apologize, Grey. It's alright. You're allowed to feel, and I won't get angry at you for expressing those feelings." Addi wanted him to know that he could tell her anything, he could do anything and she'd still love him. He was her brother, nothing was going to change her opinion about him. "Yes, but you see Grey, they are still decent. Which proves something about you. You're a hard worker, regardless of who bothered you constantly about them."

The Monsters walk among us The problem with expressing his feelings was that he had never had the right outlet for it. Now that he was talking to Addi again, certain things slipped out when they shouldn’t have, particularly about their parents and Claire. Grey wasn’t used to saying anything about his thoughts or feelings, while it seemed like Addilyn was wide open about all of that. The two of them couldn’t be any more different, but maybe that was what they both needed. Obviously Grey’s issues with Claire weren’t going to solve themselves overnight, or maybe ever, but just talking about what he thought was relieving sometimes. Put in the wrong situation, like right now, was not when he wanted to reveal those feelings. Edmund didn’t need to hear about the Slater family’s problems first hand like he just had. Grey knew there was a chance Addi had already told him all of the issues the siblings had with each other, but having it discussed openly like Grey had was completely different from Addi explaining it in privacy. Regardless, Grey was frustrated with himself more than anything else for letting it all out that easily. That was why he had been holding back when he talked to Addi about things. Even though she had told him to trust her in complete confidence, all of those thoughts and emotions had bottled up in him for years. They weren’t going to dribble out here and there, like how Addi was. When it did finally happen, it was going to be a tsunami. He tried not to laugh as Addi said he was a hard worker, despite his shortcomings with the rest of the family. Was he a hard worker, or hardly working? Grey definitely put in the extra 100% when it came to the newspaper, his ambitions hanging on to it and watching it grow beyond measure, but the same couldn’t always be said about classwork. More often than not he was finishing things last minute, sleeping during class, or skipping out altogether. That definitely wasn’t going to reflect well on him in the long run. Still, he managed grades that were good enough to get him somewhere after graduation. “Maybe I am. I don’t really know. You’re probably the first one to tell me that Addi.” It was true. Their parents were always saying he could do better. Grey had grown up hearing them tell Claire that, and she had no problem with it. Clapping his hands together, Grey tried to snap himself out of his personal demons. It was too depressing to talk about that on such a nice day. There better, happier things to talk about, none of which included his stupid beliefs about his family. “So am I going to have to chaperone you two on the first Hogsmeade trip? Or can I trust leaving poor Edmund alone with you Addi?”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Edmund watched as Grey and Addi interacted with one another and couldn't keep himself from smiling. It was obvious to him that they cared for one another. He knew that Addi always cared about Grey and wanted the best for him and figured that this must be a dream come true for his best friend. In fact, watching the two of them together, he was sure of it. The conversation seemed to get personal and Edmund decided he should hang back for a minute. Then Grey directed the conversation back to his relationship with Addi. Edmund grinned and shrugged, "If you asked me, I'd say you could trust us, but I guess Adds gets to answer that question."@jill2 grey xavier slater

Addilyn smiled at her older brother. She knew he needed compliments every now and again. Addi didn't know what it was like to be in Grey's shoes, but from what he has told her, it wasn't such a great spot to be. And Addi wanted to make sure he knew how much he meant to her, and how important he was. "Well, I hope that's a good thing, Grey."
Her jaw dropped open at her brother's next question. "What? Why wouldn't we be trusted?" Addilyn knew she had...well, a bit of a shopping problem. But Grey had always survived Addilyn dragging him around...so why wouldn't Edmund? Unless he meant something else, Addi didn't know. "He'll be fine! We'll be fine." Addi smirked at her brother, teeth shining and everything.

The Monsters walk among us Grey watched the two both come up with different responses. Edmund seemed to have figured out what he was playing at, or at least made an educated guess and passed it off to Addi. That’s what Grey was hoping he would do. He turned to his sister to see what she would do. Trying to contain a laugh as he watched her mouth open in disbelief that he would even question their trust, Grey could tell that she was thinking through everything intently. He was sure the two of them had already spent countless hours hanging out, even before they were dating, so there was no reason that he couldn’t trust Edmund with Addi. If anything, things would probably work out much better since they had started out as friends. Look at him, thinking he understood how these things worked. He honestly had no idea. But grilling Addi like this was fun. He didn’t think she would react the way she did, so that made it even better. A grin was starting to form on his face as he watched her panic for a few more seconds. Finally it looked like she also realized what he was talking about. “No need to panic.” His grin widened as he laughed at his sister. Watching her reactions was funny. Grey just didn’t want her dragging poor Edmund around all day if they went somewhere, he was sure it would happen. Edmund seemed like the quiet type, willing to go with the flow. Grey had witnessed Addi’s behavior in public too many times to count, and he usually tried to slip away before she could get ahold of him. Edmund was just another lost soul being offered up to Addilyn Slater. Although, he might actually like it, unlike Grey. “Unless you have something to hide from me. We’ve been pretty good about the whole sharing thing lately haven’t we?” Now he was just being mean to her. It was kind of fun though, trying to embarrass his sister. That’s what siblings were for, right? MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Edmund actually liked this. It was fun for him to see Grey and Addi communicating with one another. Highly entertaining. He couldn't stop himself from chuckling to Addi's reaction when Grey asked if they needed a chaperone. She seemed completely confused and it was so cute. He thought her statement that he would be fine was funny, and he realized that he didn't mind letting Addi speak for him. Honestly, he would be fine. He knew she liked shopping, so that probably wouldn't be a lot of fun for him, since he hated it so bad, but spending time with Addi was worth it. He was certain. He smirked when Grey started teasing Addi back. Honestly, the best thing to do in this situation was just let the two of them hash it out and enjoy watching it. Neither of them were talking to Edmund so he decided to step back and watch. He knew that Grey and Addi were just starting to trust one another, to have a good relationship and he was enjoying watching it grow. No need to do anything else at the moment. @jill2 grey xavier slater

Thankfully, the boys were getting along. However now, it just seemed like they were up to something. Addilyn looked from Grey to Edmund and saw Edmund's big grin, all goofy and happy. She scrunched her face up at him. What was he so smiley about? Her? Or Grey making fun of her? Addilyn 'hmmphed' and crossed her arms over her chest. These boys were crazy.
Seeing Grey smile the way he did made her happy, but his words didn't! Her mouth opened once more and she scoffed at her older brother. "What would I have to hide, Grey? I'm a princess. I don't know anything wrong!" Well, except make out with Edmund...and cuddle with him...and...well, Grey didn't need to know everything now did he? "You need not worry, Grey." Addi winked.

The Monsters walk among us What would Addi have to hide? There were numerous different things Grey could think of, things that he definitely didn’t need to know about. Things that were better left unsaid, especially between siblings. Still, her reaction was priceless, and he knew that his jabs at her would get some kind of reaction out of her, and it seemed to have worked as planned. Now he could continue the ribbing. It even looked like Edmund was ready to take a backseat on this one and watch. All of this was long overdue. Grey had never had the pleasure of Claire making fun of him when she was still in school, and he knew she would never do that to Addi, so it felt kind of strange to start now. At the same time, it seemed only natural to embarrass his sister as much as possible in front of Edmund. The one problem with all of that though was that Grey didn’t really know too much about Addi, especially over the last few years. And Edmund, being her friend that entire time, had surely become her number one confidant. Who would have thought Grey Slater would have trouble making fun of his little sister? It was by far his most challenging and daunting task to date. “I’m sure if I started listing things off, the two of you would probably go red in the face or hex my mouth shut.” Grey shrugged wryly. “Even you, princess. You seem to forget that I have an army of reporters that could dig up anything I want on both of you in a matter of seconds.” The blackmail tactic always made people squirm. They also always seemed to forget that the normally quiet and boring Gryffindor ran the entire school paper flawlessly, and with great popularity. But Addi knew that, and she also knew he was serious about that. Kidding of course, but serious about being able to pull it off if necessary. “I’m supposed to worry aren’t I? And whatever you do, don’t owl Claire about Edmund. She’d come to Hogwarts on an off day or something and interrogate the poor kid into submission.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Edmund lifted an eyebrow in interested surprise when Grey said that he could list things that would embarrass the two of them. The truth was, Edmund wasn't embarrassed about anything he'd done with Addi. They cuddled, held hands, kissed, but really that was about all. It wasn't like they did anything wrong, or anything to be ashamed of. (though he would definitely be ashamed if Grey decided to publish something about the two of them before he had a chance to talk to his sisters about his relationship. That would not go over well at all) He didn't want Grey to see his discomfort at that idea though, so he held it in. Something about not wanting to seem bothered. If Grey was directing any of this at him, Edmund would've told him to go ahead and sick his reporters on him, that they had nothing to hide. It was probably a good thing that he was talking to Addi instead. Then he mentioned something about Claire and Edmund was interested and intrigued. "Interrogate me into submission?" he asked somewhat skeptically. He could understand someone being interrogated into submission, but not himself,. Edmund was pretty good at holding his own. If Claire was as harsh as her siblings were making her out to be, Edmund would probably disregard anything she said to him that he didn't like; that is, if he decided he wanted to talk to her in the first place. Not really the best decision if the goal was to impress an older sibling, but it seemed like he already had Grey on his side, so Edmund didn't care about impressing Claire. Apparently it was a hopeless cause anyway, so why should he try? @jill2 grey xavier slater

Addilyn's face was already turning a light shade of pink. She hoped Grey didn't think she'd do anything...like that! Her eyes widened, but she wasn't going to let him get away with this. "Fine then, Grey. Try me. There's nothing we've done that is bad! Or that I've done for that matter." Addilyn smirked gently at her older brother. "And whether or not anyone could dig anything up isn't important, I don't care what people think, you know this."
Then Grey brought up Claire, and Addi tilted her head, looking at him. Hm...here she was thinking the worst part was going to be Grey, when in reality, Claire would most likely have a hissy fit if she knew Addilyn had a boyfriend. Sweet, little, baby Addilyn, and a boyfriend? Claire was going to be hard to get by. It caused Edmund to finally speak up, and Addi gave him a sheepish grin. "Claire's...hard to explain. She's very overprotective."

The Monsters walk among us Comparing both Addi and Edmund’s reactions to his jab about finding dirt on them was funny. Edmund did exactly as was expected, and didn’t really react at all. Grey could tell he was proud of his relationship with Addi, and that Grey pestering him into oblivion wasn’t going to work. Addilyn on the other hand continued to dig herself deeper. He knew it wouldn’t bother her if he reported anything on them, but it was still hilarious to watch her react to him saying that. Obviously she wanted her privacy. “I’m only kidding,” Grey said laughing. “Although, the paper is taking a turn towards tabloid material, so be careful! Never know what one of my reporters might find, because I unfortunately have to see everything they write about.” That was an actual warning. His club members could write what they wanted, but Grey had ultimate control over what was published in the final edition of the paper. He wasn’t too keen on seeing a story about Addi and Edmund. “Maybe just don’t get caught snogging behind a staircase or something like that. You know, PDA stuff.”Now it was time to talk about Claire again. He swore he couldn’t get through a conversation anymore without talking about his older sister. That’s how much she bothered him. Grey held back though so he could listen to how Addi explained their sister. She had two things right; Claire was overprotective and hard to explain. Grey couldn’t have said it better himself. “She’s overprotective for you,” Grey said, directing it to Addi. “Me on the other hand, well we’ve already been over that today, with the grades and all. Claire and I don’t get along that well.” That was an understatement. They didn’t see eye to eye on anything. For the longest time, Grey had also thought Addi was the same way, brainwashed by Claire and their parents into thinking he was useless. He had seen that wasn’t true though, and now this is where they were at. “Seriously though, be careful mentioning Edmund to Claire or mum and dad. Unless he’s really good at school, then he’s fine.” Grey turned to face Edmund now. “Please tell me you’re insanely smart. They’ll love you to pieces if you are. And if you aren’t, feign it somehow. Although, Claire might try to slip veritaserum into your drink to find out the truth regardless…” Big, bad, Auror Claire was scary to think of. She had access to all sorts of things now. Things that both Edmund and Grey had to be very, very scared of if they weren’t careful. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Edmund couldn't help but smile when Addi started to defend them. It was sort of funny and he liked how easily Grey had fallen into the habit of being the older, teasing brother. It was funny to see how she reacted to that. Obviously she wasn't used to it. When Grey admitted he was teasing, but still told them to be careful, he couldn't hold it in any longer and let out a chuckle. "No promises," he mumbled, looking over to Addi and hoping to see her blush. He only jumped in for her benefit, after all. He had the feeling that Grey was pretty laid back. He listened intently when Grey started talking about Claire. He was more detailed than Addi, but still vague and Edmund couldn't decide what he thought about the oldest Slater. She seemed judgmental. At least, to like one sibling and not another was judgmental. Not that Edmund wasn't guilty of the same thing. He shrugged when Grey turned to face him. "Well I'm not in Ravenclaw," he started off, "But I do really well here in school." He turned to Addi, "Do I do good enough for your family?" She knew his grades so she should be able to tell. Still, Edmund was nervous when Grey talked about Claire using veritaserum on him. "Why would she use veritaserum on me? I haven't done anything." Except date her sister. This all sounded complicated. grey xavier slater@jill2

Addi stuck her tongue out at her brother. "You better be kidding! And either way, I have dirt on you too. I could just go to your reporters." She grinned widely. Not that she would do that of course...unless it was in retaliation. That would be the only time she'd do something like that to Grey, she was sure. As soon as Grey said something about snogging, Edmund replied straight away. Addi's mouth dropped open and she turned a bright red. "You two are nuts."
Addilyn scrunched her face up at her brother. "Well, I'm overprotective for you, so there." She smiled gently. Then Grey went on to explain Claire and her auror things, and she gave Edmund a sad smile. She hadn't actually thought about Claire, or introducing Edmund to their parents. She had assumed they'd be okay with him, just like Grey was. There hadn't been any reason for them to dislike Edmund. "Well...your grades are...okay. Not, terrible. But they'll be upset you don't know what you want to do when you graduate."

The Monsters walk among us “You can go to my reporters all you want princess, it’s not going to make a difference. And I’m sure whatever you think you have on me, isn’t all that much.” He was interested to hear what it was though, if it was anything of actual substance. Grey could guarantee Addi had made that up on the spot, but still, it had him wondering a little bit. Following that was Edmund’s wonderful response that there were no promises that they wouldn’t be caught…doing whatever. Grey’s grin widened. “Looks like Edmund here doesn’t care if you two get some photos snapped making out in the hallways,” he said, pointing at Edmund. “You’ll have to get used to insanity Addilyn, it lies dormant in me at all times, waiting to pop out when it’s needed. I heard it’s contagious too.” He had definitely had his share of crazy experiences while at school. Normally Grey would say it was because of the people he hung out with, but it seemed like it was actually him most of the time. Sometimes the headstrong personality that reared its ugly head when he was fired up was not the best one to follow his instincts with. Grey thought about the many different things Claire could do with veritaserum. He was positive that they were scary things, and the difficulty of making the potion probably meant that her deciding to use it meant she was serious about it. “Well, you think you haven’t done anything wrong, but that stuff will get anything out of you in a heartbeat. That’s not to say she’d do it, just that it’s possible.” The last thing he wanted to do was scare away poor Edmund. He seemed like a worthy ally, especially one that could watch his sister at all times. The things going on between her and Theodosia were worrying him, especially after only just hearing about it. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you if I did. Those are just a few of the things you’d have to keep in mind around the rest of the family. They don’t mean any harm. Actually, since it’s about Addi, they’ll be thrilled. Couldn’t make that one up if I wanted to.” Addi was the baby of the family, albeit only by a little over a year. He had always wondered how that made him that much different from his sister.
