The Monsters walk among us Despite the Triwizard Tournament going on and Beauxbatons and Durmstrang visiting, the students at Hogwarts were still expected to take classes. It was somewhat disappointing actually. The guests could pretty much do what they wanted and wander around. That was the kind of freedom Grey longed for at school. Alas, here he was heading to the library to find a book for his Transfiguration class. There was something oddly calming about the library for him, maybe it was the quiet, or because it was really easy for him to sleep in there. Whichever it was, today he had a goal, so there was no time to be slacking off and finding a secluded corner to take a nap. Unless he had time to kill after finding the book, then he’d catch up on a few minutes of sleep. Pushing open the door to the library, he was met with a relatively quiet room. Over the past few weeks the library was almost always busy, a low drone of noise typically accompanying it. That had made work almost impossible to do in there, so Grey had tried to only make the trek inside if he really needed to get something, like today. The peace and quiet was rather inviting though, so he contemplated staying a little longer than he had in the past. Pulling a scrap of paper out of his pocket, he silently read the name of the book he had to get. Transfiguration didn’t usually require more books than what students had to get at the beginning of the year, but this one was apparently the sole exception to that unwritten rule. Not exactly knowing where the section was for Transfiguration books, Grey wandered around for a few minutes before asking another student in the library. Upon inquiring, the student pointed him in the general direction, but stated that they didn’t really know either. That was just perfect. Thanking them for their help, he went to where he had been directed but was still at a loss. This still didn’t seem right. The main problem he had with the library was that there were tons of books. Like thousands of them. And there were also multiple versions of virtually every single one because they were all ancient. Frustrated, Grey scrunched up his face as he stared blankly at the wall of books in front of him. This was going absolutely nowhere. Looking down at the paper with the book title on it, Grey went back and forth between the shelf and his scrap, still not finding it. Shaking his head, he sat down on the floor across from what he assumed was the correct shelf and continued his search from there. Given enough time, he’d find it eventually. There was just no use doing it while standing. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Goodness, Anastasia was exhausted. Everyone had been buzzing in and out of the library 24/7 lately, and she wasn't exactly sure why. Well, maybe she was. The Triwizard Tournament was occurring at Hogwarts so there were double the students then there normally would be. It was nice having her old school there; especially seeing some of her old teachers and Headmaster. However, it was slightly awkward, since she was working at a different wizarding school. Hogwarts was less strict, and that's what she enjoyed. The freedom, and the area to be who you wanted without being shunned by everyone.
It was nice to finally have a break, and since the doors had opened a few hours ago, only a handful of students had entered the library. Anastasia had spent her time sitting up at the front desk, writing down names of late books, missing books, and books that needed to be put back in their place. As soon as she had finished writing a few more things down, she took out her wand and cast a charm for the books that needed to be put away to float next to her as she walked up and down the aisles. Ana flicked her want here and there, and a book would fly out of the pile and into a spot on a shelf with ease.
And as soon as she turned down another aisle, there was a boy sitting on the floor in the shelf in front of him. Anastasia rose an eyebrow. She allowed the other books to continue floating in the air as she walked over to him. She smiled softly. "Hello, do you need help finding something?" Her French accent wasn't as thick as it used to be, but to any passerby they would notice it.

The Monsters walk among us Staring aimlessly at a shelf full of books was boring. So boring in fact, that Grey was ready to give up and go find the corner he was thinking about earlier so that he could sleep. He wasn’t one to give up easily, but this task was nigh impossible and he wasn’t going to waste his entire day trying to find one measly book. He had to have looked back and forth between the paper with the book’s title on it and the shelf a hundred times since he had been sitting there, and it had gotten him nowhere. There was an inkling of a thought that he could be looking at the wrong section, Grey had definitely done that before. From what he could tell though, this was the right area and he simply couldn’t find the one he was looking for. There were a few different reasons for this: it was still there and he hadn’t seen it yet, it was somewhere else, it never existed in the first place and he had the wrong title, or another student had it. All of those were good enough reasons to give up the search, and just as he was about to stand up, another person turned down the aisle. Grey wasn’t going to bother to look up at the person because he was still intently searching for the book, but they asked him if he needed help finding something. Breaking his attention away from the bookshelf, he looked up to see what he assumed was one of the Beauxbatons students, based on her slight French accent. A few months ago he would have been surprised to see a foreign student and now they were so commonplace at Hogwarts that he had grown accustomed to seeing them around. “Well, I’m not too sure.” He let out a small laugh. “There’s a Transfiguration book that I need for class, but I can’t seem to find it all.” Grey indicated that the title of the book was what he had written down on the paper, holding it up for the girl to look at. There was something oddly captivating about her, but Grey couldn’t put his finger on it. All he knew was that he felt somewhat compelled to talk to her. Unfortunately, he wasn’t sure how much she could help him, being a student from a different school and all. If Grey couldn’t find a book in his own library, what could she do? The only positive was that if she did help him look, two pairs of eyes were better than one. He wouldn’t mind the help either. Standing up, Grey handed her the scrap of paper that contained the book’s title so that she could get a closer look at it. “How do you like Hogwarts so far?” He inquired. “I’m sure it must be pretty different from Beauxbatons. At least that’s what I’ve heard.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

As the boy spoke, Anastasia smiled at him. Being one of the youngest staff at Hogwarts, she felt like she could relate to the students more. She herself had only gotten out of school a few years ago, so she was still familiar with all of the schoolwork as well as the stress that came with it. He had mentioned a transfiguration book and held up a piece of paper. Ana laughed along with him and tried to read the words on the paper but they were printed small so she couldn't see it very well.
Then he stood up, and her eyes widened slightly. Goodness, was he tall! She smiled at him and glanced down at the paper, now closer to her. "Ah! Well, you're in the right area, that's for sure." As Anastasia began glancing the books above her for this title, he asked her about Hogwarts. Glancing out of the corner of her eye to him, Anastasia nodded her head. "I enjoy it, quite a bit actually. Beauxbatons is more strict, they aren't so lenient as you all are here. It's nice to have some more freedom."

The Monsters walk among us Any thought that the girl didn’t know where the book was and she was just being nice and helping was gone once she took the paper from Grey. She must be really into Transfiguration or something, especially to know where an obscure title like that could be. He continued to look for the book as well, keeping one eye on the girl. It was strange that she would offer help that fast, since he hadn’t really been looking for too long. Maybe French students were just kinder people. He had surely never been offered help before in the library, and hours upon hours were spent trying to find one book. Usually the searching took longer than the research and work that followed. There was something wrong with that process. That didn’t matter now though, since Grey was getting help and he had to do his best to make it look like he was actually searching, instead of watching what the girl was doing. “I’m glad I found the correct section. Probably would have found it eventually.” He pulled a book out from its spot, only to realize it wasn’t what he was looking for. Frowning, he placed it back. Grey listened as she explained that Beauxbatons was strict. He had assumed so, the way a lot of them reacted to how the Hogwarts students took classes, did clubs, and essentially lived. On the flipside, Beauxbatons was technically considered a better school. There was no doubt that a lot of the students sent for the tournament were above and beyond the majority of the better seventh years at Hogwarts. Then adding Durmstrang into the mix meant that Hogwarts was left in the dust sometimes. Grey was happy that he had been able to go to such a relaxed school though, it allowed him to be as lazy as he wanted. “That’s good, I’m happy you like it. It’ll feel like home by the end of the year I’m sure.” It always had for Grey, more than his actual home did at least. He hoped that would be changing soon. “How’s your search for the book going? I feel like I keep looking at the same books over and over again.” He had managed to make it a little further down the aisle, but looking at the ones there still wasn’t getting him anywhere. It was starting to look like even two people couldn’t get it done. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Anastasia could feel his eyes on her. She usually could, although it had become so natural for her. Ana became used to men looking at her, she was absolutely stunning, but it was mostly her veela blood that did that. She smiled softly, still looking for the transfiguration book. "Maybe, eventually. But I know a lot of people look for hours, and I don't want you to have to do that. Especially if you need it for something important." Anastasia glanced at him. She figured he'd need it for a transfiguration assignment, so she wanted to make sure he'd pass at least.
"I hope so! I'm sure I'll never want to leave." Anastasia was glad to have a job that she truly enjoyed. Granted, she knew many people wouldn't enjoy working in a library at Hogwarts, but it was something Anastasia really liked. Her eyes scanned the books above her again. Anastasia read the piece of paper. Hm. She didn't remember anyone taking this book out, so it had to be here somewhere. "Well, I haven't spotted it yet...but no one else has it, so we'll find it soon, I promise."

The Monsters walk among us She wasn’t wrong about looking for hours. Grey had been there, done that, on more than one occasion too. He typically tried to mooch a book off a classmate if they were done with it, since that made the entire process a lot easier. And if he couldn’t do that, well, he had become rather good at making up things as he went. Usually that was enough to get him a decent grade that passed. He wouldn’t be aiming for Auror training if he didn’t have the skills to make do with his surroundings. Some called that laziness. Grey called it being resourceful. It counted for something though, and had gotten him this far, so it couldn’t be that bad. He wouldn’t readily admit that to anyone though, since quality work usually comes out of putting just as much, if not more effort into it, and Grey tried to do the bare minimum at best. “Yeah it’s just for a paper due tomorrow.” And he said it. That would make Hogwarts students look lazy to the other schools. Grey wasn’t sure how the girl knew that the book wasn’t taken out, because it was starting to look like it was. After placing a few more books back in their places frustratingly, Grey stepped back and leaned up against the shelf behind him. This was going nowhere. He felt bad too, because this girl had offered her time to help him find this book. “It’s honestly not a big deal if I don’t get it. I’m sure someone else in my house has it lying around and won’t need it tonight.” Even for Gryffindor’s reputation, there were still some smart cookies in there. Grey was positive one of them had gone above and beyond and bought the book prior to the term starting. He had had other priorities to deal with when picking up books this year. “So what do you think about the whole Triwizard Tournament thing? I like the fact that Beauxbatons and Durmstrang get to come here, and we can see how other students learn across the world.” He still wasn’t sure if he wanted to be picked or not from the cup. While it would be great, at the same time he had too many other problems he needed to deal with. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

The boy mentioned it was for a paper and Anastasia laughed softly. It wasn't normal for people to know that Beauxbatons students handed work in late or were lazy when it came to school. However, Stasia knew that all too well. "I know how that is...I used to wait until last minute as well. But it's okay, as well. Everyone does it." She smiled at...what was his name? Had he even mentioned it? "I'm sorry, what was your name again?"
As soon as Anastasia glanced up, there it was. Right in front of her face. She smiled brightly and reached up and grabbed it. Ugh, it was so dusty. Clearly no student had taken it out in awhile. Even the edge was dusty, probably why they couldn't find it so fast. Turning her face away, she brushed all of the dust off so the book looked slightly visible. "No worries! I found it!" Anastasia held the book out to him as he asked about the Tournament. "I think it's a great way for the schools to learn about each other and their culture. The act of the tournament is more of a fun game, but having all three schools together is what is important."

The Monsters walk among us A lot of what the girl said was slightly confusing Grey. From the start, she had made it sound like she was no longer in school, but that had to be impossible because she was from Beauxbatons. She had even admitted to that. Then again, her latest statement, about how she used to wait until the last minute to get work done, technically made sense. All the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students were the better of each schools’ seventh years, and they probably weren’t continuing their studies this year. Then there was the obvious factor that English wasn’t her first language, despite being extremely proficient in it. Maybe his confusion just stemmed from a communication error. Plus she still looked like a student. As Grey muddled all of this over in his head, she asked him what his name was. Had he really forgotten that? He had been captivated be her arrival, so it was entirely possible that it had completely slipped his mind to introduce himself. “Grey Slater. I think I might have forgotten to introduce myself,” he said, awkwardly laughing. Introductions were always number one on his list when meeting someone new. As he stopped laughing, Grey watched the girl reach up and grab a book off the shelf. This was the one! Finally! He reached out and took it when she handed it over to him. “Thanks. There was no way I would have found it without your help,” he said smiling at her. After finishing this, he listened to her talk about the tournament. Pretty stereotypical response to it. That was how he pretty much viewed the whole thing. Other students, from all three schools, were only there to win the whole thing. That wasn’t the correct way to approach a cultural event like the Triwizard Tournament. Being picked as a champion and winning it for your respective school was important, there was no doubt about that, but it also wasn’t the main point, and it seemed like a lot of people weren’t able to grasp that. “I agree. I put my name in, but there’s so many other students vying for Hogwarts, that I’d be lucky if I got the spot. What about you?”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Anastasia smiled at him softly. She happened to have that effect on people, especially men. They tended to forget things around her, especially important things, but she knew how to make them feel more comfortable and not so embarrassed by her. Ana herself felt slightly awkward at times, considering it all. "Well, it's nice to meet you Grey. I'm Anastasia Delaroux, however, school rules and all, to you I'd be Madam Delaroux." Anastasia felt so weird calling herself that, especially since this boy was what, not even more than five years younger than she?
When Grey smiled and was happy about her finding the book, Anastasia laughed softly. Hey, she herself loved reading, and although it wasn't a book for him to read, just for him to finish a paper, she was still glad she could make him smile about it. Not many people could say that. Anastasia just hoped he had the time to actually finish it and get a passing grade. "Of course! That's what I'm here for."
Anastasia's eyebrows rose at Grey's next question. Did he think she was currently there from Beauxbatons? Goodness, he couldn't. She definitely didn't look that young! Ana blushed softly and shook her head at him. "Oh, Grey, I apologize, I must've confused you. I'm the librarian here..." Anastasia gave him a soft smile. "I'm not much older than yourself, but I have finished school." It was slightly amusing for her, to say the least. "But I'm sure you have a great chance of being chosen."

The Monsters walk among us His confusion grew as she introduced herself. School rules and he had to call her Madam? Is that how they were actually supposed to talk to the Beauxbatons students? If so, he was starting to feel extremely bad for talking to the French students so informally. He had no idea that was what they had to be called by. He had heard other cultures used different kinds of honor titles and whatnot, but didn’t think the French were like that. Still, if she said so, then he’d have to follow through with it right? He was still going over all this when he took the book from her. Thankfully he had that now. There had been more than a few times today where he had been in a moment of panic while looking, but Anastasia had helped him out. She had more than helped him out, she had found it when he had failed. It wasn’t often that Grey took other’s help, he felt that it was usually his duty to offer the help when it was necessary. Flipping through the pages of the book just to make sure he had the right one, Anastasia spoke up following his question about her entering. Apologizing to him about the confusion, she explained that she was the librarian. Grey could feel his face start to slightly burn up. It wasn’t often that he made mistakes like that. He was sure his mouth was also slightly hanging open. Never would he ever have guessed that she was a librarian, but the confirmation that she was only a few years older than him made more sense. “Ah thanks about the tournament…are you really the librarian? I mean I guess that would make sense though since you knew where the book was…wow…I’m sorry if I was disrespectful in any way…” Grey wasn’t really sure where to go from there. It didn’t look like he had offended her in any way, but it was always good to apologize nonetheless. “I guess maybe I’m just used to being around younger looking graduates that I didn’t think you were one too…that doesn’t mean I don’t think you’re not qualified for the job. Obviously did a better job at finding the book than I did.” He had never been this flustered before. It was strange. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Anastasia watched as Grey flipped through the book, and then his face became a bright pink. Oh goodness he was adorable. She couldn't help but feel a bit pitiful for him, as well as just wanting to let out a laugh. But that wasn't who Anastasia was, she didn't laugh at others. She was a shy, sweet girl that everyone adored. Stasia held up her hands and smiled, "Yes, I'm really the librarian, but you don't have to worry, you weren't disrespectful."
Ana smiled at him. She knew she looked young, and the half-veela in her also helped her appearance. But that wasn't something she would share with a student..."Grey, really, it's alright. No need to fret. It will most likely happen to me quite a bit this year, so I may as well get prepared, right?" Her smile was gentle. Grey was one of the first students Anastasia had interacted with, and while he was very mature and respectful, she wouldn't imagine the rest of the students to act as similarly as he has.

The Monsters walk among us Embarrassment didn’t come often to Grey. If it did, he was pretty good at hiding it, stuffing it behind a mask of some sort. But he was still in disbelief that this girl, or woman, was actually the new school librarian. He had never run into the old one that much, so maybe it was the change in pacing and demeanor that made her different than the previous one. Or maybe he just hadn’t spent as much time in the library as he thought he had over the years. Either way, Grey could feel his face still reddening, just at a much slower pace than it had initially. All he had to do was tell himself that it was a simple mistake to make. Had this year not been the Triwizard tournament, he never would have thought that she was a student. The increase in French accents buzzing around the school had dulled everything, whereas a teacher or worker with one would stand out almost immediately among the English, Irish, and Scottish accents of the Hogwarts students. Reasoning with himself, Grey finally let out a sigh and accepted his mistake. Yes, it was a silly one to make, but it wasn’t a big deal. “I’m surprised I’m the first one to make that mistake.” He laughed awkwardly. “I asked all the perfect questions to confuse myself too. Who would have thought you graduated from Beauxbatons and happened to start here at the same time the Triwizard tournament did. Funny how things work out like that…” Grey trailed off. The last part was mostly to reassure himself that it was an easy mistake that he had made. This was going to end up bugging him a lot longer than most things would. He wasn’t sure why that was, but had a feeling it would. Adding to that, he’d be reminded of it every single time he came to the library now. Awkward. “The Beauxbatons students will love you though. I assume it’s not often that they get to see a graduate teaching at a different school.”MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

Anastasia watched as his cheeks reddened, and she herself became embarrassed. She didn't mean to make him feel uncomfortable, it had been an accident, which she was sure would continue throughout the year unless the students spread around the school that the new librarian was exceptionally young. Grey seemed to be thinking things through, so Ana let him, just watching with a gentle smile. She wasn't sure what to say to make him feel better about it all, but he eventually sighed and seemed more okay with what had happened.
"Honest, it's quite alright, Grey. Anyone would've done the same thing. I didn't really introduce myself either, which I probably should've. My mistake." He laughed awkwardly and Anastasia gave him a smile. She should probably do that from now on, introduce herself to students and Professors, it seemed much more presentable and respectful. Grey then mentioned the other students from Beauxbatons and Ana rose an eyebrow at him, her cheeks blushing a bright pink. They'd love her? What made him think that? Oh yes, probably her veela blood. Laughing just as awkwardly, she shook her head at him. "Oh, no...I have a feeling they'd be offended I'm not working at that school."

The Monsters walk among us It was kind of hard to place any blame on Anastasia. Or Madam Delaroux, as that was what he had to call her. She was his senior, as well as an employee of Hogwarts. It was only right that she was treated as such. Grey had never had issues doing that with the other workers and professors, but none of them had exactly been this young, at least from what he was able to tell. There had to be something in France’s water, because he had noticed how young and attractive the female Beauxbatons students were. It was also hard not to notice a lot of the girls at Hogwarts swooning over the boys from there as well. All of the French people were attractive for some reason. For some reason, that didn’t exactly seem fair to Grey. “Maybe just be careful wandering around at night, not all the professors are that kind with us youngsters roaming the halls. Wouldn’t put it past them to make the same mistake I did. And they are not always nice about it either.” He had only been nabbed a few times while out at night, and that was usually by a Gryffindor prefect that happened to be waiting in the common room or right outside. Grey blamed his younger, less inexperienced self with those mistakes. He was a little better at sneaking around the castle these days than he was back then. Grey was taken aback by her response about the Beauxbatons probably not liking her. Really? A few of them did seem rather strange, one being the weird blonde boy that was going around challenging everyone like he was the coolest cat from Beauxbatons. Grey had heard about his antics, and those of a few others. It was his job to be well versed in the going-ons of Hogwarts after all. Still, he couldn’t really fathom a reasoning for why the Beauxbatons students wouldn’t like her, or be offended as she had put it. Grey assumed it was pretty common for adults to branch out to different countries for work if they couldn’t find it in their own. “Why is that? They’re not jealous are they?
