Louisa was staying in London for the next couple of months. She wanted to stay close to her brother for the duration of the Tri-Wizard tournament, especially if he was chosen as the Durmstrang champion. His odds... she was't sure. Good enough for the High master to bring him along, obviously. So, she was in her flat that night, reviewing the sheet music for the up coming concert, when she received a message from Hogwarts. Her brother was going to St. Mungos. Not for himself though. Nikolai Krum, her brothers best friend, had been injured and admitted to the hospital. Louisa was Daniel's next of kin, or at least the closest. Their parents were back in Germanu, which was why she was contacted in their place. Not only that, the Krum family was... well basically family to her. She'd grown up with them. She might be older then the kids, quite a bit older, but she'd always been there for them.
So, Louisa arrived much later to the hospital then the Krum children and her brother. She checked in, and strode down the hall with her usual slow, graceful walk. No hurry in her step. She was almost to the room number she'd been given when she saw Irina, the second oldest Krum and the oldest girl, storm out of the room, tears starting to fall. Immediately Louisa's pace picked up. Not rushing still, but at least quick enough to keep up with Irina and see where she was going. An empty room was her goal, and the younger girl slammed the door shut.
Louisa stood outside a moment, just listening through the door for any indication on what was going on. All she heard was crying. Heavy, distraught, broken crying. Slowly, Louisa knocked on the door twice, before she opened the door and slipped inside. As expected, Irina was on the ground, completely sobbing. Louisa's serene expression didn't change in the slightest, but was that any surprise? Louisa had always been the terrifying calm one. Even when she was a child. No matter what happened, it was near impossible to get her to react in any other way. So, shutting the door behind her, she sat down next to Irina on the ground, offering no words as she simply... waited. Until Irina was ready to talk, or keep crying, or whatever it was she needed to do.

Irina heard the knock; it sounded like it was coming from a million miles away, echoing hollowly in her ears. She was aware that someone came in and sat next to her; she could see their form sitting next to her. They didn’t say anything though, which she appreciated. She had to let it all out; bottling it up wasn’t healthy for her or for Dan, and she had been working so hard with him to learn about his empathy. It had been surprisingly easy to have positive emotions around him, but that was because of how happy he made her. She had taken a step back though, when Niko had found out about them. She knew how bad the emotions between her and her big brother must have felt, and she was ashamed she had let it escalate so badly.
Irina began to pull herself together, trying to take deep shuddering breaths as her tears began to subside. Wiping her eyes furiously, she looked up and saw to her surprise, Louisa Hoh was the one sitting next to her. “Hi Lou,” she said, a little breathlessly. Dan had mentioned that Louisa was performing in London for a few months, so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise, but she was pretty sure Lou had no knowledge of what had been transpiring between Dan and Irina the past month. That would be something for Dan to tell her, not Irina. “I feel a little silly for breaking down like this. But I feel like I’ve been holding it all in for a few days that it all just came flying out with one little trigger,” she tried to explain, hiccuping from all the crying she had just done.

Louisa sat their patiently, waiting. She was never in any hurry, so she had no problem waiting. It was possible that Irina might not speak at all, which Louisa was also fine with. She just knew that people when they were upset? They might seek solitude, but that wasn't actually what they wanted or needed. She didn't know what had happened in Nikolai's room. Just that Irina was upset, and she needed someone there. For a fleeting moment, Louisa was glad it wasn't her brother, Daniel, trying to comfort her. He'd never been good at it, especially when the empathy started to grow stronger. He got sucked into people's emotions, which made it difficult to help people sort through their feelings and settle down. That, and Louisa didn't like him being around overly emotional people to begin with, just because it hurt him, and she didn't want to see her brother get hurt.
Several minutes passed, the only sound being Irina's sobs, before she finally seemed to compose herself enough to realize that it was Louisa sitting next to her. "Hey, Irina." was her usual soft, tranquil response. She let Irina speak, getting the words out without interrupting, a small smile touching the corners of her lips. "It's better to let it out. Holding it in will only make it worse." Reaching into her purse, she pulled out a tissue, holding it out for Irina to take. "Stop holding it in, Irina. Let it out. You'll feel better, I promise."

Irina's tears started trickling down her cheeks again as Louisa handed her a tissue. She had always been greatly appreciative of the young womans' passive nature; she never blew up, or screamed at someone, she was just there. She listened, she was patient, and she was there. "Thank you Lou," she said after a few minutes, crumpling the used tissue in her hand. "I'm not usually like this, but Niko and I argued a few days ago and then this happens, and he snapped at me so...I just lost it," she explained. She took a deep breath; her breathing was sounding a little better now. Louisa's presence seemed to do that for her.
Wiping her eyes more delicately this time, she leaned back against the bed frame and sighed. "I just had to get out of there, it would have been too much for D-everyone in the room," she said, faltering slightly as she almost said Dan's name aloud. She assumed Louisa knew about his empathy, but Irina didn't think that she knew that Rina knew. She didn't know if Dan would want that bit of information shared, but somehow she didn't think he'd mind if Louisa knew.

Louisa slowly nodded as Irina expresed her thanks, silent as the younger girl go her emotions out, and then finally managed to speak, explaining what had happened. Ah. Nikolai. He'd always been a sensitive soul. Well, not always. When he was little he'd been carefree, and fun. And then.... one year that changed. As if overnight. Her parents had never told her why, neither had Nikolai's, but she'd always suspected something happened.
She was contemplating how to respond, and what to say about Nikolai snapping, when Irina continued, and Louisa froze. Did she just.... Her eyes widened ever so slightly, with the smallest flash of surprise crossing her expression, before it returned to her usual composure. Irina hadn't said it, but she almost had.... Which could only mean one thing. "Daniel told you...?"

Irina stared at Louisa for a moment, unsure of how to respond. Obviously Louisa knew; she was such a calming presence she was probably one of if not the first people to know about Dan’s empathy. Slowly, she nodded. “Yes,” she whispered softly. “He told me on his birthday after...something slipped and it sort of gave itself away,” she said with a half shrug. She thought back to that day when she had swam off and the vision had hit her. He had come over to her immediately and had inadvertently felt the terrified emotions she had been giving off. Of course, after that they had kissed for the first time, but Rina chose to leave that part out of the story.
Irina rubbed her forehead; she hated when she got a headache after crying, but it had been bound to happen. “Er, do you want to get a coffee down the street with me? I’m not ready to go back there and...well Dan and Niko need to talk,” she asked the older girl, starting to stand up. Saying Dan and Niko needed to talk was quite the understatement; the way the three of them had left things just a few days ago was more than a little unpleasant. But again, it concerned the nature of Dan and Irina’s relationship...thing, which she did not feel ready to disclose to his only sister. “There’s a great little cafe open 24/7 and makes really good mocha - coffee with chocolate in it - and scones,” she added, giving her a small smile.

Daniel's ability had made the past few years quite difficult for him. He'd always been more sensitive to people's emotions as a child, and maybe that was why Louisa was so.... well passive and unmoving when it came to her emotions. Everyone around them had always been this way and that with their own emotions, making life difficult for Dan when he was young. She'd tried to be there to keep him steady. And when his ability had finally developed, it was during his most emotional years. He'd needed someone keeping a level head, especially because he felt other people's emotions as his own. She'd tried to always be someone that Dan could turn to when he needed a breather.
Louisa nodded as Irina explained that how he'd told her. She wasn't upset about it, in fact seh was happy that Dan trusted Irina enough to tell her about it. She softly smiled. "He has a hard time controlling it, so he sometimes gives himself away. Usually he can pass it off as something else though. I'm glad he told you. He needs people around him that he can talk to about it." Louisa knew she wasn't the best person for Dan to confide in on how difficult it was sometimes. Because, he was one of the few people that knew she wasn't always as 'serene' as she acted. Louisa's temper was like a storm, blowing it fast and furious. But she so rarely got angry... She was bad at controlling it. She could help him calm down, but she couldn't help him learn how to control some of the intense emotions he sometimes faced. She had the exact same problem.
Louisa nodded again at the offer for coffee, slowly rolled to her feet and held a hand down for Irina to take. A small, amused smile touched her lips as Irina explaind was Mocha was. "Shouldn't I be explaining to you what Mocha is? I'm the one with a non magical parent, after all." Not only that, Louisa was a concert pianish. In the muggle world. She spent most her time among non magical folks. She was well versed in the world. "Come, chocolate is always good when you're upset. Besides, it's been far to long since we had any time to talk. How is the flute coming along?"

Louisa did not seem at all upset that Irina knew about Dan’s ability, which was good. Though she hadn’t really expected Lou to be upset; that was her way of things. She smiled when the older girl commented that she was glad Dan could talk about it with her. That wasn’t the only reason why he could talk to her of course, but that needed to come from him over Irina. “I’m glad he was able to tell me too; now he has someone at school to talk to,” she told Louisa.
She laughed at the young womans’ quip about mochas. “You have a good point Louisa,” she agreed with a smile. They left the hospital, with Irina casting one final glance back at the ward Dan and Nikolai before turning back to Louisa as she asked about her flute. Rina smiled widely; it had after all been Louisa who helped discover that particular talent back when she was ten years old. “It’s coming along wonderfully; Andy Lestrange is the Orchestra Club captain at Hogwarts this year and our first practice was a week ago. I’m still the only flutist though, which is fine, less competition for me,” she said with a laugh. “What about you? Does your reappearance here in London mean the English will be getting Louisa Hoh concerts?” she asked her as they entered the coffee shop. She’d love to go to one of Louisa’s concerts; while Irina knew she was rather musically talented, she was a hack compared to Louisa.

Louisa nodded in agreement. Daniel needed people that understood his ability and could help him through everything. "Please. Make sure he doesn't get hurt too much for me?" She asked softly. Of course Louisa was protective of her brother. She wanted to shield him from all the pain, but she knew she couldn't. Between the tournament, and the three schools being brought together.. Well, there was a lot of emotions going around that could overwhelm him. "If it gets bad for him the best thing that's helped him in the past is being able to focus on one person, or getting away from the strongest emotion." Usually, that meant if she was around, Daniel tried to focus on Louisa's emotions. If she wasn't, he usually got away from the problem. She hoped that Irina could be someone he could focus on, to make it tolerable.
Irina was a talented flutist, and Louisa knew it could be hard keeping up an instrument while being in school. She herself hadn't been able to play as much as she wanted during her schooling years. But she'd been lucky, and after graduation a piano teacher had seen her potential and taken her on to help her 'catch up'. Now... Well, she'd come far enough to be a world renowned concert pianist. That wasn't the easiest feat, especially for someone her age. So, this shared love for music had been a bond for Louisa and Irina, despite the age difference. "Have I ever told you have envious I am that Hogwarts has an Orchestra?" She thoughtfully commented. "If you ever perform, you should let me know. I'd love to come listen. It's been too long since I heard you play." Since Louisa started playing professionally probably. Likewise, she didn't think Irina had heard her play the piano since that time. They'd just reached the cafe at this point, and Louisa held the door open for them with a smile. "Ah, yes. We're still in the rehearsal stage, but I will be performing with the Philharmonia Orchestra. You're welcome to come, if you'd like." It was always amazing how the way Louisa spoke. So calm, serene, and just no rush about it. Even when talking about something as exciting as performing with one of the top orchestras in the world. Yes, she was happy and excited, but from her voice she made it sound like it was just another day. But when did Louisa not sound like that?

Irina gave the older girl a soft smile. "I will," she promised, and she meant every syllable of that. Sharing this kind of secret with Dan, one that only Nikolai had known aside from his immediate family was a huge thing for him and Irina was well aware of it. She remembered him always being apathetic, even a bit standoffish; now the attitude made a lot more sense. It was just his way of not allowing the emotions to get to him. She frowned slightly at Louisa's next comment, not because it worried her but because it made her curious. "So he can do that? Focus his...ability on just one persons emotions and sort of feed off them?" she asked her as they sat down at the table. A waitress who looked tired from the graveyard shift came and took their orders, walking off quickly leaving them to talk again.
"I will! I'm not sure when there'd be any kind of concert, not until spring most likely. Everyone's so busy with the Tournament. But I think there's a rumor going around to invite any musically inclined Beauxbatons or Durmstrang students to come play with us as a special tribute after the Third Task. That would be so amazing," Irina explained, happy to be talking about the common passion she and Louisa shared. "We have two pianists this year as well! I know Andromeda is really excited for that," she added, knowing Lou could appreciate that sentiment. Irina took a sip of the mocha that was place in front of her, and her eyes widened at Louisas' next statement. "Oh Louisa, that sounds amazing! I'd love to come if we can get permission to leave the school," she told her excitedly. Immediately, she realized that she had said 'we' as in her and Daniel, instead of just I. Already she was thinking of them as a couple, even though he hadn't asked her to be his girlfriend or make things official yet. She reminded herself to watch her thoughts and not to let them betray her.

Louisa smiled as Irina promised her that she would. Louisa believed her. She knew how much the Krum children meant to her brother. They were like siblings to him. They wouldn't hurt him. Not intentionally. And now that Irina was aware of his ability, the unintentional harm would be even less likely. "Thank you." At her next question on if he could do that, Louisa shrugged softly. "He's still learning, and his ability hasn't fully matured. When he was younger, he couldn't control it at all. He felt everything. But he's gotten better. I think some day he will be able to control it completely." Dan's empathy had only appeared a few years ago, it was still relatively new in that regard. Who knew what it might become with time and practice.
Of course the Orchestra would do something for the final task. That was the grand finale to the entire tournament, they'd want to put on a good show. "When you know for sure, you should let me know and I'll be sure to come." Of course, she'd have to arrange it ahead of time with the Orchestra she'd be playing with to ensure their own concert wasn't scheduled for the same night. The young woman smiled as Irina mentioned there being two pianists in the Orchestra. "Soloists, or accompanists?" Of course, they could be both. Obviously, Louisa was primarily a soloist. She definitely heard the 'we' comment and smiled. The waitress had returned with their drinks by now and Louisa took a moment to raise her mug and take a small sip. Only after did she speak. "Well, if you can get permission I can get as many tickets as needed."

Irina nodded along with what Louisa was saying; it felt like the young woman had not been able to talk about Dan’s ability much with anyone else and perhaps she was relieved that she could finally speak out loud about it. “I’ve seen what too much emotion can do to him already,” she found herself saying before she could stop herself. “I had to go to the Hospital Wing for...a sleeping potion and he was there too.” Irina had not told anyone but Nikolai and Dan about her visions, aside from Saoirse of course who shared her ability. “He just….it was like he couldn’t control himself physically, but I couldn’t go to him because my emotions were high and I felt...helpless,” she said, taking a sip of her drink. “Eventually though, I was able to go near him and we were able to talk. I gave him a journal to write things down in, you know to help if things ever get too unmanageable. I think it’s working, he says it is at least,” she explained. She deliberately left out the part of how they fell asleep together in the same bed, and how it was Nikolai who Dan had seen earlier on in the day. Those were unimportant right now.
Irina finished her drink after a few moments of silence; they were not uncomfortable silences though. Louisa always had a way about her that made silence feel calm and peaceful, not awkward. “The pianos are soloists for the most part, but perhaps they would be able to do a duet of sorts later on. It’ll depend on their playing skills I’d imagine,” Irina explained, taking a last bite of the croissant and swallowing before standing up. “I know this year probably both of us will be staying at Hogwarts for Christmas; the Yule Ball will be there and...I found a dress before returning to school, and Papa bought it for me. It’s so beautiful Lou; it’s bluish silver with diamonds encrusted in this diagonal pattern. It has a little bit of a train too but nothing crazy. I just am so excited to twirl around in it.” Irina giggled at herself; she was of course envisioning Dan doing the twirling for her, but she did not expect anything just yet. “I’ve heard though that if we get parental permission and an Auror escorts us to our destination then back we’d be allowed to go home for a few days. I’d really love to hear you play again,” she explained, eager to hear the elder Hoh play the piano in a concert hall.

The Hospital Wing? Her brother? There was momentary, and genuine surprise. Obviously she hadn't heard that he'd gone to the Hospital wing. "Was he alright?" While she was usually calm and serene, her brother's safety was one thing that brought out those raw, underused emotions. Those protective older sister instincts that typically remained submissive and dormant up until she thought her brother might be in trouble. "What happened?" Her voice actually raised just a touch, not enough for most people to really care or notice, but to anyone that knew Louisa? That was a huge change. As Irina went on to say that she'd given him a journal and it appeared to be working that mild worry on her expression, which for her was actually extreme worry, relaxed. "I see, that's good."
Louisa smiled warmly, and laughter appeared in her eyes as Irina went on about the Yule Ball and the beautiful dress she had. Ah, of course, the Yule Ball. Most students would be staying at Hogwarts for Christmas because of it. "You will need to take pictures and send them to me then." She thoughtfully answered. "Are you going with my brother, or did someone ask you before him?" She assumed her brother would ask her, considering their conversation in Hogsmeade. Louisa finished her drink and gently set the cup back down on the plate. "Well, like I said. Let me know how many tickets you'd like, and I can make arrangements." Louisa hadn't had any friends or family in the audience in such a long time. None could travel with her, of course, so it'd been years since she'd needed to request tickets for one of her concerts. If Irina and Daniel could come... Well, it'd be a nice change. That and she'd love to show off her little brother to the other musicians.

There was no real change in Louisa's demeanor, but as a big sister herself Irina was pretty sure her hospital comment had worried the older girl. "He was fine, just had a lot of emotions all cramped up in one place and it got the better of him," she explained quickly. She didn't say anything when Louisa mentioned that Dan could use focusing on one persons emotions to help instead of everyones. She had been surprised at his remote ability to stay calm that evening; he'd caught her when she had almost fainted at the news of Nikolai's stabbing, and hadn't seemed too bad with all of the Krums siblings in one room. Had he been focusing in on one persons' emotions then? Were they hers? She was curious.
A light pink blush tinged Irina's cheeks when Louisa asked if Dan had asked her to the Yule Ball. She didn't think Dan had ever mentioned her to Louisa before, at least not in that way. He had been adament on keeping it to themselves for awhile; she hadn't even told her own sisters yet what was going on. "Oh, no he hasn't. I mean, nobody has asked me yet," she stammered, realizing she had been quiet for longer than appropriate. "I will absolutely let you know; Christmas music has always been a favorite of mine, so it'd be lovely to hear you play then," she added with a smile. They left the coffee shop and walked down the lane, back to the hospital. But now Irina was feeling a lot better, if not more curious about where her relationship was going with Dan. But, she supposed, only time would tell.
