The streets of Hogsmeade were packed. Hogwarts students, Beauxbatons students, and Durmstrang students were all in the village, and it was difficult to call the freedom from the castle “a breath of fresh air” with so many people. Tania remained on the periphery as much as she could, trailing her classmates who felt the need to jump on each other’s shoulders and the like. Her anxiety hadn’t been terrible for the past few days, and she didn’t wish to impede what little progress she had made before it was inevitable.
From the Three Broomsticks to Zonko’s, the usual haunts for the Hogwarts students were even more popular than they usually were, it seemed, because everyone wanted to show the foreign visitors around. Tania hoped that one of her sisters was introducing Daniel to Honeydukes, at the very least, though she didn’t want to be the one crammed up against jar upon jar of sweets. She would take her time and wait until the rest of the student population had gotten their fill of Chocolate Frogs and fudge before going to buy her own.
Occasionally, one of the other students in her House would pass her or chat for a moment and ask her if she wanted to go some shop or another with them. Tania declined each time, distracted by a young woman just a few paces away. The slightest glimpse of the side of her face confirmed that it was Magdalena Ollivander.
As soon as she began to lose sight of Magdalena around the corner of a building, Tatiana broke into a run to catch up to her and then slowed down to match the older girl’s stride. The last time that she had seen her had been at the hospital after Nikolai had been stabbed, an event that—Tania did not doubt—neither of them were eager to remember. Between Magdalena’s crying and her own panic attack, it had been a taxing day.
“Hi…” Tania’s breathing was sharper than usual from the cool autumn air and her brief run to Magdalena’s side. She swallowed. “Um,” she said, “how are you?”

Magdalena was job hunting.
She hadn't told Nikolai she was going to go out looking for one today, he'd had Quidditch practice, and she didn't want to get his hopes up. She wanted to wait to tell him when she actually found one. The problem was. Her current job, that she'd be leaving for whatever she found didn't look that great on applications. When she'd taken the job as a dancer she hadn't been thinking that far ahead. She just wanted a job, no matter what it was. But now that she wanted a respectable job... Well, it wasn't going that well. There was one place she knew she could get one without even trying but she refused to go to her brother. No. No way in hell.
Today she was in Hogsmeade, seeing what possible openings were, when she heard someone talk right next to her. She froze, recognizing the voice immediately. Nikolai's sister. Tatiana. Immediately her heart raced, and she wanted to run. Didn't want to face his sisters after what had happened. Unfortunately, running wasn't an option. "Tatiana... Hi." she managed to get out as she stopped walking and looked at the younger girl. "I... I'm good. How are you?" stay calm, if she could just stay calm... Maybe she wouldn't stay long.

“Tatiana… Hi.” Magdalena had stopped walking, and Tania stopped, too. “I... I'm good. How are you?”
“I'm alright.” Tatiana felt that her answer had come out too stilted, and she tried to make the conversation come more naturally to her. She didn’t know what to say to Magdalena, but she wanted her to know that she was grateful for what she had done. Without her, there was a chance that Nikolai would be dead. “I'm… really sorry about what happened with my brother,” she apologized. “Thank you for staying with him until we could get there.” She couldn't imagine leaving anyone alone at St. Mungo's, but Magdalena could have fled when she had the chance. What reason did she have to stay?
“It hurt enough just to see him in hospital…” As she spoke, Tania wanted to block the memory but couldn’t. “He’s… doing better now,” she added hopefully. Nikolai was so busy with the Arrows that she didn’t know if he had kept Magdalena updated on his condition.

Was this just a coincidence, that they'd run into each other? It had to be! Of course her and Tatiana had been in the same house, been... Well not really friends but she hadn't disliked the younger girl. But she was several years younger then Magi, so they'd never really interacted much. So, for not having known each other well, what were the chances of running into each other? Especially right after Nikolai was stabbed....
"That's good." Magi managed to respond as Tatiana answered her question, a small polite smile on Magi's lips. But it vanished when Tatiana brought up the subject she'd been dreading. Nikolai. She didn't think he'd told his sisters about them yet. That they were.... Well, together. But he might have, or their parents might have told them. She wasn't sure. She swallowed and nodded as the events of that night came back to her. Seeing Nikolai get stabbed. Screaming for help. Being covered in his blood. Wondering if he was going to die. She never wanted to feel that helpless again. "I know. He has to take it easy, but he's able to go to practice again-" She shut up immediately. If Tatiana didn't know they were dating... Well, Magi shouldn't know that.

Magdalena was polite enough. There really wasn't anything too strange about their conversation, the timing of it aside. It was awkward for that reason, but Tania just wanted to express what she hadn't been able to say the last time she had seen Magi.
The only slightly peculiar thing of note was that Magi already seemed to know how Nikolai was doing. She also knew that he was able to resume Quidditch practice, a fact of which Tania hadn't even been aware. “He's been writing you, then? The last I heard, it was day-to-day…” she explained, her voice having risen with her question even more because of her confusion.
Tania knew that to whom her older brother wanted to write letters wasn't any of her business, but it was unusual that Magdalena Ollivander would know more about Nikolai's Quidditch schedule than his own family.

Dammit. Magdalena had screwed up. She shouldn't have said that. She didn't know how much Nikolai wanted his family to know about them. Hell, she didn't even know if he'd told them anything at all! Magdalena's eyes widened a bit, and her mind ran at a hundred miles an hour as she tried desperately to come up with a response. Any response. Something that would explain why she knew about Nikolai's condition. She felt like a cornered deer, probably looked like one too as she struggled to come up with a good excuse. Alas, nothing came to mind.
"We're... Friends." She managed to come up with. It wasn't that absurd. They had been in the same year, after all. "I, uh.... I saw him earlier. On his way to practice. He told me then." Not a lie. She had seen him earlier. And she had seen him when he was heading to practice. She just didn't explain that she'd seen him at his house. Which she'd moved into. And that they were more then just friends. She prayed that Tatiana wouldn't hear the hesitation and nervousness in her voice. That she'd believe Magi's response without hesitation and not question it. Knowing her luck though..... Well, Magi was hoping she wasn't digging herself into a hole here.
