This was it, his final class of the day, and probably the one he was most looking forward to. He would be showing the class how to brew Amortentia, the most powerful and dangerous love potion in existence. It never failed that there was always one couple-to-be that was surprised when they recognized each other's scents in the potion. Liam didn't consider himself a matchmaker, but it was fun to watch them figure it out. He already had a large cauldron of the potion sitting on his desk, the telltale spiraling steam wafting through the air as it simmered lazily. His students would be exposed to its unique smell the moment they walked in the door, and then the fun would begin. For Liam himself, the potion smelled like food. A spicy, herby scent drifted through his nostrils, accompanied by the salty aroma of melted butter and fresh bread. He could practically taste a fresh piece of garlic bread in his mouth. And it always excited him to see what the students would smell. Food was always a common scent, along with flowers. Occasionally, someone would pipe up with something interesting like gasoline or old books, and those interested him the most. He loved seeing the uniqueness in his students and watching their eyes light up as they were bombarded by their favorite smells. And, if any of them manage to brew the potion correctly, they would be further satisfied, he hoped, that they were able to reproduce the smells. [[OOC: Each student will get three posts: one entering; on practicing the potion; and one leaving. Liam will interject after each round of posting to assist and chat. Please mess up at least one time in your post because no one is perfect. Whether your potion is successful in the end is up to you (the end result should be a mother-of-pearl color with spiraling steam and your character's favorite smell), but please don't have every single person perfect it, as it is a highly advanced potion. The Harry Potter wiki did not have a link to the steps, so feel free to make them up. Do not pretend to use Half-Blood Prince notes. Students have three days to post. Please post in tagged order. The Potions room smells like citrus. Oranges, grapefruit lemons.
Dusti stopped in the doorway when the smell hit her, confusion on her expression. Why did the dungeon smell like her favorite fruits? She'd always been a sucker for citrus, but that wasn't a smell she'd expect down here. At all. It didn't make any sense. After a moment she spotted the cauldron on the table and realized what it might be. Because there was no way in hell the professor had intentionally brewed a potion that smelled like citrus, it could only be one thing. The Aphrodite of all potions. The one that was so powerful even the smell changed to attract you. Of course it smelled liked citrus to her. That was her favorite smell. But... There was also something else. IT took only a moment to realize what it was. Albus. As strange as it sounded, it smelled like her boyfriend. It was so cheesy that she immediately rolled her eyes, finally stepping into the class room and taking a seat at one of the tables, towards the back. She intentionally set her back in one of the chairs next to her, saving it for Albus. She'd gotten down here first it seemed, but that was no surprise. He'd had class last, and she'd had a free period, so she'd been in the common room, chilling until class started.

Jamie was excited for Potions this year. She had been excited for Potions every other year, too, but now that they were at the N.E.W.T. level for the course, Jamie was looking forward to learning about the most complex potions that Professor Hartridge had to offer. She had a knack for the subject, more so than most of her classmates, and while Jamie was secure in the knowledge that she wouldn't fail the class miserably, she was hoping for some kind of challenge. When she walked into the room, Jamie was sure that she was going to get the challenge that she hoped for. When she stepped into the Potions room, the scent of melted chocolate bombarded her nose. There was a soft scent underneath it, more of a sensation than a scent of any sort; melted snow. When she took another deep breath, Jamie smiled. Harper's perfume. They were brewing Amortentia, then. Jamie walked all the way to the back of the Potions room, plopping herself down at the table farthest away from the professor, and the other students. She did her best work when she wasn't distracted by others, and being far away from them just seemed to be a smart precaution to take.

If Irina hadn’t found the history of magic so fascinating, then Potions would have been her absolute favorite subject. Potions came as naturally to her as Flying did, and if she wasn’t so fascinated by the life of a Cursebreaker she probably would have done something with Potions as a career. She walked in and smiled at Professor Hartridge. She took a few steps towards the potion and sniffed the air, her smile widening. Amortentia. The smells of morning dew on leaves, hot chocolate, the smoke from a campfire and….oh, Irina recognized that smell. A light blush crept on her cheeks; she cleared her throat and looked around the room. She saw there as an empty table next to Jamie and she went to there, slightly relieved to be away from the smell of the potion; it would be rather distracting while trying to recreate it, and she could always move closer to take a quick whiff to ensure she was doing things right. She offered Jamie a small smile; her friend was a fellow Potions ingenue and she recognized that they’d need their space to create this difficult concoction. Irina opened her book to the page where Amortentia’s recipe was located and began preparing to make the potion on the professors’ signal.

Andy liked potions. It was usually more about working by yourself rather than having to work with others... for the most part. Not that she really minded team work, but today she just wasn't in the mood. And the smells that wafted toward her when she stepped into the classroom just made her mood... confusing. First the scent of a campfire, the way it sticks to your clothes. Then honey-chamomile, lavender, all of which she expected. Then came the strongest smell of them all, the most aggressive. It smelled green, earthy, warm and welcoming. It smelled like Phil. She stopped in her tracks, actually glancing around the room for him for a split second. Then it dawned on her. She knew what this was. What potion this was.
She took in a deep breath, trying to ignore the stinging in her eyes, as she took the farthest seat from the other students and sat upright, looking straight ahead.

Potions class. Cecelia hated it, to be frank. She hated all the bubbling and she hated the smell and she hated that it was in the dungeons, so far away from open air and the sky. When she entered the classroom, Cecelia was surprised to find that, for the first time, she didn't wrinkle her nose at the way the room smelled. In fact, she rather enjoyed the scent. It reminded her of chocolate, and pumpkin juice, and Bay's cat...The smile that had been creeping up on Cecelia's face slid off at the thought of Braelynn. Who was still dead. Melancholy restored, Cecelia slunk over to the nearest table, which wasn't yet occupied. She could probably use the assistance of another student when it came to making the actual potion, but she didn't feel like having to explain to people that even a love potion that made you smell amazing things could depress her and remind her of her dead sister. People already thought she was pathetic enough already.

Potions class was interesting for Lysander. The worst part about it was listening to Professor Hartridge's voice, but other than that, he liked the class well enough. He certainly wasn't the most adept potioneer, but that was besides the point - he got good enough marks, and would probably pass his N.E.W.T. in the subject. Lysander didn't know why he bothered taking any class other than Care of Magical Creatures, since he had decided a long time ago that he wanted to be a magizoologist, but he knew his mother would encourage him to pursue knowledge beyond just his chosen subject, and Sander knew he'd probably bore easily if he only had one class. Besides, Care of Magical Creatures seemed even more fun when compared to the less interesting classes like Potions.
When Sander entered the dungeon, he was surprised to find that it smelled more like the outdoors than it normally did. Not only that, it smelled like it had when he and Alice had been nearby to the unicorn herd in America - dirty, but dirty in a pleasant way, with the distinct, musky aroma of the unicorns playing over the scent of mud. When Sander took another breath, there was a faint, spicy cinnamon smell on the air, too, and he smiled. Whatever potion this was, Lysander was certain that he was going to succeed, if only because he was in such a pleasant mood from the pleasant smells that failure seemed impossible.
