Jamie needed to find Elias. She was surprised that he hadn't found her already, because Jamie swore that she was glowing with happiness. Max was awake. She was so happy, but also so, so sad. Max was awake, but the circumstances that had caused her to need to wake up in the first place...those weren't good at all. Still, Elias needed to know what was going on, and Jamie had been ordered to leave the room to sleep. No one was going to know that she went to the grounds instead of the Hufflepuff common rooms, and it wasn't like anyone was going to rat on her for going to tell her brother that their sister was awake. That would just be cruel. Of course, Jamie probably should have followed instructions, because beneath the glow of happiness and the riptide of sadness, there was also a slow, steady thrum of tired. It had now been thirty-someodd hours since she had last slept. Jamie had stopped counting after Max had woken up, because before that point, Jamie had been using every sleepless hour as a measuring stick for how long it was taking Max to wake up. Now that she didn't need to worry about that, the numbers seemed pointless. She could keep going like this forever, Jamie thought, fueled by everything that she was feeling now that Maxima Greyback was well and truly alive.

Dan had an amazing night playing board games with his girlfriend. Girlfriend. He blinked, shaking his head as he sat on his bunk in the Durmstrang ship, his and Irinas fear/dream/emotion journal in hand. It was his night to have it, but he had a feeling he wouldn't need it. His emotions were calm, pleasant, and most of the others wher-woah.
He felt it like a bolt of lighting. Usually the emotions of someone approaching were steadily soft until growing louder. That's how he knew to get away if it was bad but this... this was so sudden. It was one of the most intense, complicated emotions he had felt since coming to Hogwarts. It was almost as intense as the entire Great Hall when the names were chosen, but he could tell it was just one person. The confusing thing was, their emotions were aggressively contrasting, with a heap of little emotions swimming in between it all.
He went above deck quickly, seeing the girl coming toward the ship. The one with the happy and sad lightning emotions. He knew it came from her, he just knew.
He clenched the edge of the ship, trying to decide what to do. Dan wasn't a curious person by nature, so he really had no reason to want to talk to this girl but... he had a feeling she may be needing someone to talk to. Heck, anyone with emotions like that walking the grounds straight toward the boat had something on their mind. He didn't move though, not until she was close enough that he could just call down to her. "Hey, you okay?" he asked, not sure what else to say yet

Jamie was shocked to hear a voice calling at her from the ship. She didn’t recognize the voice, and when she narrowed her eyes to see the face, she didn’t recognize that, either. It was a little weird that a total stranger was asking after her, and confusion momentarily joined Jamie’s emotional cocktail before being whisked away in the current of the stronger, more urgent, feelings. Even worse, Jamie didn’t know how to answer his question. The short answer was yes, she was okay, she was more than okay, today was the best day of her life…but the long answer was no, she was not okay, she was more than not okay, yesterday was the worst day of her life. Telling a total stranger that her little sister had tried to commit suicide wasn’t exactly the way that Jamie wanted to begin a conversation, though, so she took a deep breath while considering how to answer. “It’s kind of a long story.” She called back, making her way towards the gangplank of the ship. “Is it alright if I come aboard? I’m looking for my brother.” Jamie paused. Maybe this stranger – who was presumably a Durmstang student – knew where Elias was. “Elias Greyback?” His name had been catapulted into fame the night before, so Jamie suspected that no one would have any qualms in telling her where he was. Elias’s name gave her an odd pang of anger, but Jamie ignored it. It would go away, just like everything other than happiness and sadness was going away. It was worth a shot to ask this boy where Elias was, and if he didn’t know anything, maybe Jamie had found someone who wouldn’t mind letting her unwind a little bit.

A long story... well, that made sense considering what was happening inside her. It was so strong he almost wanted to bend over and vomit into the lake on the other side of the boat. But Irina had helped him learn that he should use this to help people... even if she didn't know she had taught him that. He nodded as she asked if she could come aboard to see her... brother? Elias had a sister? Oh, Dan should have put that together. He knew Adrian was related to Elias, and Irina had mentioned her good friend Jamie Greyback. Maybe this was her... or another sister. Dan nodded, "yeah, come on up. I'll go see if he's down there," he turned on his heel and went back downstairs, looking for Greyback. He didn't find him, but most of the ship was empty at this point anyway. Dan paused for a moment at the bottom of the stairs. She had little spurts of anger and confusion upon speaking with him, but he sensed they weren't present any more. At least not prioritized inside her.
He went back above deck and frowned at her, "hey, sorry. He's not here right now. I'm not sure where he ran off to... I'm Daniel. I could accompany you in looking for him?"

Jamie was invited aboard the Durmstang ship, and she looked around the deck expectantly, as if expecting Elias to jump from the shadows and shout ‘here I am!’ The Durmstang boy had left to look for Elias, and Jamie felt slightly awkward standing on the deck of the ship alone, when she obviously didn’t belong there. As soon as her host returned, Jamie offered him a tired smile. “Alright. Thanks for looking.” She told him, expecting to turn around and go search on her own. At the boy’s offer, though, Jamie paused. There was no telling how long she could remain upright, and if she did accidentally fall asleep on her feet, the Hufflepuff supposed that it would be good to have someone else there, in case she fell and hit her heard or something.
“That would be nice.” She answered, forcing a smile onto her face. “My name’s Jamie, by the way. Jamie Greyback.” Maybe she ought to change her name now, since there was no use in trying to be the one who redeemed the family name. Elias had that covered. She could change it to her mother’s name, though that seemed silly, considering she wasn’t in contact with her mother anymore. She could change it to Aaron’s last name, which was a slightly more appealing idea, but it would no doubt confuse people into thinking that they were married or something equally disgusting. “It’s good to meet you.” She added belatedly, manners almost forgotten in her exhaustion.

She thanked him for looking and then paused when he spoke. She answered, saying that would be nice, but Dan wasn't really sure what to make of that smile. Her emotions seemed mixed about it, even worried for some reason. Or precautious? Either way, she introduced himself and he stepped forward, but didn't offer a hand, of course. He never did. "Daniel Hoh," he said. In the seconds between her speech he felt a little disgust come from her, but he hoped that wasn't because of him. The train of thought was a powerful thing.
"Good to meet you too. Let's be off, then?" he suggested, gesturing ahead and moving to leave the ship. He headed down first, partly because he wanted to give her a moment and partly because he was afraid she may pass out on the way down... the girl looked like a ghost right now, probably due to exhaustion.

Daniel Hoh. Jamie was going to remember that name; he seemed nice, which was good, and she had a niggling feeling that she had heard that name before, though she couldn’t place where. Someone had talked about him…Ugh. She was too tried to try to puzzle out how they might know each other, and it was better just to remember the name so she could figure it out when she was in a better mental state.
“Yes, let’s go.” She agreed with a short nod. Jamie fell into step behind Daniel, trying to find something to say to him. “So, do you know Elias at all?” Her brother seemed pretty insistent that no one at Durmstang wanted to talk to him because of his lycanthropy, but here this boy was, willingly talking to someone who was not only name Greyback, but was also a werewolf who had bitten another student the year previous. Jamie felt a familiar pang of guilt at the thought, wondering where Matt had gone off to; he hadn’t come back to school in the fall, and all of her letters went unanswered. “Or Maria?” Jamie added darkly. It didn’t take an emotional genius to see that she didn’t like the Durmstang girl one bit.

She asked if he knew Elias and he nodded, "yeah, I do. Just as a classmate, really. I wouldn't say we're friends exactly, but I don't dislike him," he explained. He felt a sharp sting of guilt coming from her for a moment, and he wondered what she was thinking. She seemed to have a lot on her mind. Then she mentioned Maria and he raised an eyebrow in curiosity, mostly at that attitude that poured from her that even a non empath would be able to sense. "Yeah, I know Maria," he started, "do you... I guess you've met her?" of course she had, unless she just chose random people to hate... but she didn't seem the type. Plus, he knew how most people felt about Maria, it was easy to hate her, even if he didn't.

Jamie’s suspicions about Elias over exaggerating the degree of how he was a social outcast were confirmed when Daniel said he didn’t dislike Elias. She nodded at that, then realized she was behind Dan, and murmured her assent. She wanted to tell Dan not to bother with Elias anyways, but didn’t want to come off as rude. He could find on his own time that Elias was an asshole whenever someone didn’t do exactly what he wanted, like talk about their favorite color when her sister was dying. Jamie’s anger reached a crescendo, and she tried to bring it back down again despite the fact that the next subject was even less pleasant.
“Met her. Argued with her. Hated her.” Jamie said, voice carefully flat despite the anger that she felt inside. Maria had been the one to make this whole mess, as far as she was concerned. Jamie didn’t even know why she was going to get Elias, considering he had been so rude to her. She let out a soft huff – she ought to just return to the castle and be done with it. “Other than those two, I don’t know any of the foreign students, so congrats on being the first one I haven’t argued with yet.”

Dan's neck slowly tilted to the right as the girls anger started to rise. Whatever she was thinking about, Dan wans't sure he wanted any part of it if it was making her this upset. But, he did want to make her feel better. Finally, her anger spiked and Dan quickly snapped his neck back into a straight position. He tried to blink it off, but she continued to feel angry at the topic of Maria.
Awe, argued and hated. Made sense. Jamie let out a huff and Dan turned around to face her. "Awe. Well, the walk is still young," he joked with a small smile. He hoped it wouldn't come to that, of course. "I know quite a few people at your school. The Krums, mostly," he added. Maybe talking about something else would take her mind off things for a few minutes, maybe get her to open up more if she needed to. "And your brother Adrian is my cousin," he added.

Jamie shook her head when Dan said that the walk was still young. She’d rather have at least one foreign student she didn’t need to argue with every time she saw them, and so far, he was the only one who fit the bill. She would do her best not to pick a fight, but Jamie found that she had less and less patience for people lately, probably due to the emotional and physical stress she was putting herself under.
Daniel said that he knew the Krums, and Jamie nodded. “Tania and Ripley are on my team.” Jamie told him, not at all bothered by the fact that she had called the Hufflepuff team her team. She was the Captain, so that made the team hers, right? “And I know Irina, too.” They were in the same year, but Jamie couldn’t pin exactly how they had gotten around to talking to each other. When Dan said Adrian’s name, though, Jamie halted in her tracks. How was she supposed to respond to that? According to Elias, Maria had a more legitimate claim on his love and the status of family than Jamie did since they had grown up together. Was Adrian the same way? Was she going to lose another brother?

Dan nodded as she mentioned that Tania and Ripley were on her team. "Oh, so you play Quidditch then? So do I," he said with a small smile. At her mention of Irina Dan simply nodded, his smile still in place. But then the girl stopped walking when he said Adrians name and some strange emotions coursed through her. What was that... panic? He wasn't sure how he could have instilled that, but he went on to speak anyway. "We're not that close, though, so I'm sure he hasn't mentioned me," he explained casually. It was the truth, too. Adrian didn't really care for Dan and Dan could understand why. Adrian had such strong emotions and with Dan's ability... well, it was easy for the two of them to get into a lot of fights, especially when they were kids. "What position do you play on your team?" he asked.

Jamie nodded when Dan asked if she played Quidditch. That was a safe subject. “I’m hoping to go professional after school ends, though I’m not sure if any teams would be willing to take me.” The Hufflepuff paused. Best to address the elephant in the room. “My dad turned me into a lycanthrope, so not that many teams are chomping at the bit to get me to join up, you know?” Pair a bad name with a worse affliction and you got some not-so-great chances for joining a professional league, no matter what discrimination laws said.
Jamie was relieved to hear that Dan and Adrian weren’t close, though she felt bad for thinking it. “Too bad. He’s…really great.” She was sure that Dan knew that already, but she never really got the chance to have a proud older sister moment. The conversation quickly turned back to Quidditch, though, for which Jamie was glad. She wasn’t sure how much ooey-gooey family stuff she could handle. “I play Chaser, but I’m also Captain this year.” She replied. Hopefully that gave some context to the comment earlier about ‘her’ team.

Dan grinned as she said that she was hoping to play professionally. "As am I," he added. "I'm sure plenty of teams would be willing to take you either way, Jamie," he said. Was being a werewolf really that big of a deal around here? Back home the prejudice was practically non existent. He frowned, though, and nodded, "I can see how it'd be hard since they'd have to schedule your games around the lunar cycle. That's the only thing I would consider as a coach, nothing else," he assured her. He was a freak of nature himself, so he liked to think he kinda got the point.
Then she said that Elias was really great and he gave a little nod, a bit surprised at the pride that came from her. He didn't really understand that whole half sibling situation with Elias's family. It must have been hard for all of them. "Captain, wow, that's fantastic!" He said happily. "I play Keeper, usually, but I often cover for the beaters sometimes when needed. Chaser is literally the only position I don't play," he chuckled.

“When you’re a werewolf, it’s hard to think about all the people who like you and support you, or, in this case, the teams that will take you.” Jamie said blandly. “Because the people who hate you and the teams that that don’t take you are a lot louder and a lot more annoying and a lot more hurtful.” Even if the acts of discrimination were minute, all of them hurt, because all of them reminded Jamie that she was never going to be normal. She was probably guilty of being her own worst critic, but there were definitely times where Jamie had experienced some not-so-pleasant things as a result of her affliction. “People think that that’s not a big deal, but then after a while, it becomes one.” Sometimes Jamie got tired of scheduling the Hufflepuff practices around the lunar cycle, and she was the reason they had to do such a thing!
Jamie smiled when Dan said that her being Captain was fantastic. She thought so, too. “Oh?” Jamie asked when Dan said that he played every position but Chaser. “Seeker, too?” She asked, since Dan hadn’t mentioned it on his list.
