Anna rolled her eyes when Finn said she should try again, with a different tactic. Of course, she should have expected him to want her to do the same thing over and over, but it still got tiring. Still, this was what she expected- more or less- when she asked him to help her, so it was a good thing. The targets came down and this time Anna focused on destroying them immediately. To her surprise, even with more targets, she completed the task faster than the last time.
After a few more practices with targets, Anna decided she was done. She turned to Finn with a sweet smile after having destroyed yet another target. "So do you have anything else for me, or is our focus shields and targets today?" She was teasing, somewhat. If he had something else for her to do she wanted to try it, but if not she was definitely tired of the targets.

Finn raised a brow at her. “Anna Weasley, are you rolling your eyes at me? You do realize you’re the Triwizard Champion expected to kick Frenchie and wolfboys arses tomorrow yes?” he asked, half joking but still serious at the same time. He wanted to make sure Anna was taking her role as champion seriously, and he hoped her reactions were just out of nerves.
He surveyed her for a moment, then gave her a smile. “We can take a break,” he said, crossing over to his bag. He pulled out two butterbeers and tossed one to Anna. “To staying alive,” he toasted his bottle in her direction before taking a long sip of the drink. He was silent for a bit, drinking his butterbeer. “What I’m training you in now Anna may seem redundant or silly. But I’m not forcing you to face things you can’t even begin to imagine you’ll possibly be able to face, which will be far more terrifying than a bunch of targets,” he finally said, looking straight at her. “You’ll find in Auror training there’s a lot of practicing to make things perfect, but when you face something that actually scares you, you’ll be grateful you had time to perfect things,” he finished, taking another sip of his butterbeer.

Anna couldn't help the smile that was fighting to take over her face when Finn asked if she was rolling her eyes at him. "Maybe," she responded slyly. She shrugged her shoulders, "Rolling my eyes at you does not mean I don't know that Finn," she countered. She took her role as champion seriously, but that didn't mean everything she did had to be serious. That just wasn't her.
She smiled when he said they could take a break. "That sounds like a great idea," she exclaimed. Then he toasted to her staying alive and Anna drank, her thoughts flying. She knew the tournament was serious stuff, but she didn't like thinking about how dangerous it would probably be and she didn't understand why everyone else seemed so focused on that.
Then Finn started talking more. She didn't think the practice was silly, despite her playful attitude. She was grateful that Finn was taking the time to practice with her and help her. "I know, Finn. And I do appreciate you helping me practice. I just ... I don't want to freak myself out. The first task is about to happen so I have to act like it's not a big deal or risk the nerves taking over. I'm not taking this practice lightly, no matter what I say or how I act." She didn't know if that would explain it well enough for him, but she tried.

Finn nodded as Anna explained herself a little. “You know I’m just messing with you right? I know you’re taking this seriously, the goblet wouldn’t have chosen you if it didn’t think you could not handle it,” he told her. He was quite proud of his friend for being selected, but also couldn’t imagine what was going through her brain right now as she prepared herself for whatever lay ahead. He reached out and touched her shoulder gently. “Hey, you’re going to do great out there. Just don’t overthink it and always remember to keep breathing. Sounds silly, but sometimes people forget that breathing is necessary to stay alive in stressful situations,” he told her with a chuckle. He patted her shoulder twice, then moved his hand back to his bottle of Butterbeer. He took a long sip, then swallowed. “Same goes for Auror training you know; if you overthink things, by the time you come up with a logical solution you’d already have failed,” he added, smiling slightly. Thankfully, Finn had never been much of an overthinker, so passing through the aptitude tests had been easier than NEWTs for him.
He drained his bottle and stood up. “Well, I need to get to Hogsmeade; we have a briefing with Claire Slater, so you know, very important things. Or just what we’ll be doing tomorrow for the First Task security wise,” he said with a laugh. He paused, then reached over and pulled Anna into a hug. “Good luck Anna, I’m rooting for you,” he told her.

Anna shrugged, "Yeah, I figured you were. Still, better safe than sorry!" She took a deep breath as she took a drink of butterbeer and Finn started explaining how proud he was of her and how she needed to just keep her head in whatever the task was. "Thanks for the advice, Finn," she told him with a smile. She appreciated his help. Anna just needed to remember to relax a little bit, before and during the task. She stood up when he did with a smile. "Good luck with your briefing," she said with a smile, hugging Finn back before he left. "Thanks. I can take all the help I can get," Anna said with a smile, teasing him a little and then watching as he left. She turned back to the room, wondering what else she needed to do to practice. ---end--- @finn
